HIGHWAY started slowly but picked up well in the evening in metro multiplexes. The film manage to record decent collections in places like Mumbai, Delhi, Gurgaon and Bangalore. The first day collections are around 3.25-3.50 crore nett.
The first day collections are okay as the release was only in around 700 screens and restricted to mainly multiplexes. In fact the horror film DARR @ THE MALL had a wider release of over 1100 screens. The film did not do well outside metros but that is expected and release was also restricted outside the major cities.
The film is sure to see growth on Saturday and it remains to be seen how much. It should go to over 4 crore nett but if it can get near the 5 crore nett, then the film can really go somewhere.
----------------------
DARR @ THE MALL collected around 1 crore nett on its first day which is a low collection considering that film was released on around 1100-1200 screens. The occupancies were low all over with select screens opening a bit better due to horror factor. The opening day collections are still better than films like MR JOE B CARVALO and ONE BY TWO.
The film is unlikely to go anywhere as the horror genre is dependent on the initial and it is rare for the genre to pick up well after the first day. The collections were slightly better in mass areas than the big cities.
Other releases like DEE SATURDAY NIGHT which was released on around 100 screens and GULABI GANG which was released on a few PVR theatres with a show or two collected very poorly.
