His one-man show, Kucch Bhi Ho Sakta Hai, is what convinced Anupam Kher that he could help those going through a crisis to believe in themselves and in a brighter future. “I started doing the play when I was struggling to overcome facial paralysis and bankruptcy. Instead of letting my problems get the better of me, I went on stage and laughed them off. Every performance has been liberating and uplifting. It’s changed not only my life but my perception of life,” asserts the actor, explaining his decision to turn into a life coach.
Kucch Bhi Ho Sakta Hai, the School of Life, will flag off at a Himalayan retreat in Landour near Mussorie. Over three days, from March 8 to 10, Anupam will conduct specially designed classes aimed at helping one discover that ‘the best thing about you is You’, which incidentally is also the title of his book.
Anupam has given motivational speeches at universities and business schools and recalls addressing a group of 60 investment bankers in Malaysia. “I asked them when was the last time they said 'I love you’ to their partner. The answers were prompt. But when I wondered when they had said the magical words to their parents there was pindrop silence. So then I made them call up their parents right then and 50 per cent broke down and promised to keep making these calls,” he reminisces.
He will give some pep talk now to a group no bigger than 15 members over five sessions. He says, “When Ranbir (Kapoor) attended a master class at my school he told me that as an actor he found laughing most difficult. In 30 seconds I taught him how to laugh. I hope I can teach others to do the same,” he says.
