Sunny Deol's ambitious project, Ghayal Once Again, has changed many hands
and now the actor has taken it on himself to helm the project. The
decision was taken yesterday.
The second part of the Rajkumar Santoshi directed blockbuster Ghayal (1990) will be Sunny's second directorial venture after Dillagi (1999). The actor plans to redefine the action genre in Bollywood with the much-awaited film, which will be produced under his home banner Vijeta Films.
Initially, Ashwini Chaudhary, director of Jodi Breakers, had been asked to wield the megaphone. But when he got busy with another assignment, the responsibility was passed on to Rahul Rawail, who directed Sunny in his maiden film Betaab (1983) followed by Arjun (1985) and Arjun Pandit (1999).
Rawail, who was very kicked about returning to Vijeta Films after nearly three decades, had made few changes in Chaudhary's script but eventually, he too excused himself from the project for reasons best known to him. Now, Sunny has picked up the baton himself.
According to sources, the story of Ghayal Returns traces a father-daughter relationship. While Sunny will be seen reprising the character of Ajay Mehra, Meenakshi Seshadri, who played Sunny's love interest in the first film, will be shown dead in the second. Hunt for the actress, who will play Sunny's daughter, is still on. The rest of the cast will be finalised soon.
The music recording will start around January 15, 2014, while the shooting will kick off in February. The first schedule will be shot in Manali.
When contacted, Sunny's spokesperson confirmed that he is indeed donning the director's hat with Ghayal Once Again.
