The Christmas week saw the best collections at the box office India since the reopening of cinemas as a film from Hollywood, WONDER WOMAN 1984, and a film from the Telugu film industry, SOLO BRATHUKE SO BETTER, found an audience.

WONDER WOMAN 1984 collected 10.50 crore nett over an extended eight day week plus previews. There was a drop in collections over the weekdays but that has been par for the course since cinemas returned and the second weekend should see better collections. WONDER WOMAN 1984 should go over 15 core nett in the long run which is a decent final number. If it can reach 18 crore nett then it would mean just 20% less than the first WONDER WOMAN film which released in English only but in a normal scenario for the box office.

The Telugu film SOLO BRATHUKE SO BETTER also did well in the first week as it collected 13.25 crore nett across India in the first week. The film also saw collections come down on weekdays but overall the film has scored. Around 12.50 crore nett of the 13.25 crore nett has come from Nizam/Andhra where it has to cover costs of around 9 crore apprx. The share of the film in Nizam/Andhra should be around 8.50 crore in week one especially as the terms could be better than normal.

WONDER WOMAN 1984 had support from the youth in metros while SOLO BRATHUKE SO BETTER got support from mass audience in Nizam/Andhra. This shows its mainly the youth which is coming out to cinemas at the moment be it urban or mass youth and sustaining collections will be difficult until family audiences return.

Wonder Woman 1984 collects 8 cr in 4 days

Weeks after Tenet faces the box office, India will see theatrical release of Wonder Woman 1984 on December 24.

WONDER WOMAN 1984 collected well over its extended first weekend as it collected 8 crore nett. There is a good print available online of the film due to a HBO Max release in USA so its a pretty good turnout for the film taking all things under consideration.

WONDER WOMAN 1984 has fared very poorly across the world with the Coronavirus pandemic and a digital release hurting theatrical numbers and this is irrespective of the reports which are different in different places. But India is one of the places where business is not as as bad as the other circuits.

WONDER WOMAN (2017) grossed $825 million worldwide and the way WONDER WOMAN 1984 (2020) is going, it looks like it can do in the $150 million range. This is an 80% drop from the previous installment but India will not see this sort of drop as WONDER WOMAN (2017) did 23 crore nett and WONDER WOMAN 1984 has chances to get 20 crore nett depending on how it performs over the next ten days or so.

The collections of WONDER WOMAN 1984 are as follows.
Previews - 75,00,000
Thursday - 1,50,00,000
Friday - 2,25,00,000
Saturday - 1,75,00,000
Sunday - 1,75,00,000
TOTAL - 8,00,00,000

WONDER WOMAN 1984 continued to do decent business as it collected 2.25 crore nett plus on Friday (holiday) to takes its total to 4.50 crore nett. It was not the pre-pandemic holiday growth of 80 or even 100% but collections were up 50-55% and that's a good result for these times.

The collections are the highest seen on any day since the reopening of cinemas easily beating the numbers of TENET (Day 3) and WONDER WOMAN 1984 (day 2). It will mean a decent weekend for the film which could go towards the 8 crore nett mark and this will also mean it should comfortably surpass the lifetime figures of TENET which will finish up with around 11 crore nett.

The box office has seen an improvement since the release of TENET but its minimal maybe around 5-10% and the Hindi markets are still pretty much the same with cinemas shut and no content for them.
