I will talk about my marriage when the time is right-Anushka Ranjan

The actress on rumours of her wedding with Aditya Seal on November 21

According to buzz, Anushka Ranjan is all set to tie the knot with Aditya Seal on November 21. Though she has been pretty open about her relationship with the Student Of The Year 2 actor, she has decided to stay tight-lipped about their wedding plans. She says, “I am superstitious about talking about my marriage at the time. I will talk about it when the time is right. Besides, there is nothing concrete as of now.”

The two have been regularly sharing glimpses of their love life on their social media pages. She says, “When it comes to relationships, I just find it very disrespectful not to acknowledge friends and partners. These are the relationships we choose. So, why would you want to hide something that you consciously decided to be a part of ? If you are not sure, well then that’s a different story. But then, you never know what might happen in a relationship. A 50-year-old wedding can come to an end, and an engagement of five years can go kaput… anything can happen. However, that doesn’t mean you don’t give it due respect. Aditya and I are like best buddies.”

Anushka says, “We talk about silly stuff and crack jokes all day. Most people say that we look like best friends, and that is the most important thing for me in a relationship… where you can just sit for hours, play board games, fight and also move on, without the thought of walking out occurring. It’s a normal, regular relationship between two regular people.”

How does she define normal though? “For me, normal is what my school life and my friends were. And that is what I had first noticed about him. He is a simple and down-to-earth person, which is so rare in this glamour world. When you are in a space like that, you start appreciating normalcy so much more. His mother and sister are lovely. He comes from a beautiful, loving family. That’s what I think worked for us,” she reveals.

Aditya’s father succumbed to COVID-19 in September 2020. During the tough phase, Anushka was by his side like a rock. She says, “It will be challenging for anybody because it’s something you don’t really prepare yourself for — the passing away of a parent. When it happened, it was difficult, but he was really strong through it all, and so was his mom. That made it easier for us to manage the situation.”

On the work front, the actress finished shooting for a web series. She made her Bollywood debut with Wedding Pullav (2015). Unfortunately, it failed to set the cash registers ringing. Ask her if she has assessed what went wrong, and she replies, “There have been times when a perfect film with a perfect script and a perfect cast fails to perform. And then there are short films unheard of that give birth to overnight stars! I believe that it wasn’t the right timing for me and I don’t want to get too bogged down with it. The good thing I took away from that experience was that people who watched it, especially senior people in the industry, called me to say that I did a good job. That appreciation kept me going. Yes, it’s a struggle story, but I think it’s been fun and enriching as well.”

She further adds, “My career path may have been riddled with obstacles, but there’s so much I am thankful for — my family, my friends, my support system. When you are grateful for so much, it will be selfish to cry and complain about one thing that probably hasn’t worked out perfectly. Yes, the film didn’t make me a star, but I had the chance to see the world, meet new people, focus on my acting and work on myself.”

I am not upset with Imran Khan-Rishi Kapoor

Rishi-Imran
Rishi Kapoor shoots down buzz that he’s irked by Khan turning down a role he recommended him for
Upala KBR (DNA; October 1, 2015)

Actors rarely recommend other actors for roles. Rarer so, when said actor already has a son, who’s also an actor. Buzz is that Rishi Kapoor was upset with Imran Khan for turning down Wedding Pullav who he recommended for the role. Imran refused the role because he felt if it was a good role, why didn’t he suggest Ranbir do it.

Selfish motives
Rishi admits, “I did reccomend Imran’s name for Wedding Pullav. At that time, my good friend Rahul Rawail was supposed to be directing the film (Binod Pradhan is helming it now) and he had asked me to do a role in the film. It wasn’t a big role, but I agreed to do it. I asked about the film’s male lead, they told me they were still casting and I suggested Imran for it as he’s like my own son. Even Ranbir and Imran are good friends. I have worked with Nasir Hussain in his films and Mansoor and Nuzhat... they are all like my family. Also, I wanted to work with Imran so I suggested his name.”

Tough luck
But he denies being upset with Khan, “Imran didn’t even hear the script, he said he was sorry and he couldn’t do it. Maybe Imran was contractually bound (for Katti Batti) or because his film was bigger than ours. But it’s an actor’s prerogative to accept or refuse a film, so why should I be upset?”

Imran Clueless
Imran, who is currently in Germany on a road trip, says, “I think they contacted my manager Reshma Shetty, but the dates they wanted were overlapping with Katti Batti; so, the conversation never got off the ground or even reached me. This is the first I’m hearing about Rishi Kapoor’s involvement, or his displeasure. Considering it was over a year ago, I think he would have said something, particularly since he dropped by our set at RK Studio.”
