Natasha Dalal and I are not that couple who really parties or something like that-Varun Dhawan

Varun Dhawan says nothing much changed in life since his wedding in Jan
Rishabh Suri (HINDUSTAN TIMES; August 24, 2021)
For Varun Dhawan, who tied the knot with long-time girlfriend, Natasha Dalal, on January 24, nothing really has changed after marriage. A low-key event with few guests, the actor reveals, in his first interaction about his big day, it was a conscious decision to keep it that way.
“We had to be responsible during this period and follow rules. I’m someone who didn’t want to do something big, you’ve to respect whatever things have been put in place. I had elderly people from my family coming, and I wanted everyone to be safe, that’s why it was low key,” Dhawan tells us.
The 34-year-old adds the scale of the wedding festivities has also got to do with the kind of people they are. “That’s the kind of person I am, as far as my personal life is concerned. I’d rather keep it low key, and also because Natasha isn’t from films. The full show-sha is too much, and this wasn’t the time for that. We’ll need to come back on our feet as a country. We need schools and other things to start opening,” asserts the Badlapur (2015) and Judwaa 2 (2017) actor.
As for the wedding preparations, Dhawan reveals his mother, Karuna Dhawan, along with Natasha and her parents, did it all. “I can’t take credit for anything. I just told them I’ll keep a count of people coming there. I was really worried as I lost my maasi to Coronavirus last year, then I had Covid myself,” he shares.
And work didn’t stop for the actor, who was shooting right until before his wedding. He recently wrapped up Bhediya and restarted work on JugJugg Jeeyo. Ask about life after marriage and if the actor is finding it tough to juggle work and personal life, Dhawan says, “It’s exactly the same. I don’t have issues right now because I’ve too much time like most people do.”
Currently, the couple is staying alone, as he says, with their puppy, Joey. “It’s fun to have friends over. We’re not that couple who really parties or something like that. We just have gatherings of few close friends, it’s difficult right now,” the actor adds.

Varun Dhawan marries childhood sweetheart Natasha Dalal in an intimate gathering of 50; guests tested for Coronavirus before allowed entry at Alibaug venue
MID-DAY (January 25, 2021)
After a two-decade courtship, when it was time to say ‘I do’, the couple faced an unusual obstacle. No disapproving parents, or a sneering villain in this Hindi film-esque romance, but a larger force of nature: the pandemic.
Then again, our hero, having headlined a string of Hindi movies in the past eight years, knows only too well that the story doesn’t reach its resolution until the couple battle all odds and reach the happily-ever-after.
So, a COVID-19 shaadi it was for Varun Dhawan and Natasha Dalal, who tied the knot in an intimate ceremony at Alibaug's Mansion House Resort last evening. Romance and rationality sat side-by-side at this celebration — where family friends and the couple’s childhood friends were in attendance, the hosts also adhered to safety precautions and restricted the guest list to 50.
The groom’s mentor Karan Johar arrived early afternoon, ahead of the wedding, while director Shashank Khaitan and couturier Manish Malhotra had headed to Alibaug on Saturday for the pre-wedding celebrations. The nuptials started at 5.45 pm, lasting for an hour. A source reveals, “Every guest and staff member at the venue was tested for COVID-19 on Saturday before the festivities began."
"The two families were clear that guests be kept minimal, keeping the current situation in mind. A no-phone policy was adopted at the venue so that minute-by-minute details of the wedding were not leaked."
"The couple are planning to honeymoon in Turkey in April after Varun completes the shoot of Bhediya that rolls by the month-end." After the nuptials, the hosts distributed sweets among the paparazzi waiting outside. It is heard that the Dhawans will host a reception in Mumbai in February for their industry friends.

Varun Dhawan and his family were seen heading to his wedding venue in Alibaug yesterday morning. The actor decided to drive to the resort, while the rest of the family, including bride-to-be Natasha Dalal, took the jetty to reach Alibaug. Before the family took off from Mumbai, while the staff members were loading their wedding ensembles in the vehicles, they were clicked by the paps.
Varun and Natasha’s wedding celebrations begin tonight with a sangeet ceremony, and the wedding will take place tomorrow evening. We had told you earlier that Salman Khan, Katrina Kaif, Jacqueline Fernandez along with Karan Johar and Manish Malhotra are likely to attend the wedding. Now, we hear Varun’s childhood friends Shraddha Kapoor and Arjun Kapoor, too, are likely to be present for their friend’s big day.
Apparently, the limited guest list also includes filmmaker Sajid Nadiadwala and Shah Rukh Khan. Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor may join in if the former wraps up her shoot as per schedule.
The family picked the exclusive venue in Alibaug to ensure that they get the privacy they desire. A source told us, “Varun has always been warm and friendly with his fans and members of the press. However, papa David Dhawan has asked for their family’s privacy, so their own staff and the people working at the venue have been asked to avoid using cell phones. Given the pandemic, the guest list is restricted.” The Dhawans and Dalals also plan to host a reception in Mumbai for those who couldn’t be a part of the celebrations in Alibaug.

The big Bollywood shaadi will take place at a plush property in Alibaug on January 24
Prathamesh Bandekar and Renuka Vyavahare (BOMBAY TIMES; January 22, 2021)
After many years of courtship, actor Varun Dhawan will tie the knot with girlfriend Natasha Dalal on January 24 at an exclusive property in Alibaug. The couple was apparently planning to get married in 2020 on foreign shores, but due to the Coronavirus pandemic, the wedding was postponed.
Our sources reveal, the couple will apparently tie the knot at the lavish Mansion House, which is a luxurious 25-room resort that is a 10-minute drive from the Alibaug Jetty. The actor and his family will be travelling by road to the venue on January 22 for the celebrations. The festivities will begin with a sangeet ceremony on January 23, while the wedding will be held on the evening of January 24.
Our sources further reveal that Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma’s wedding planners are in-charge of this big Bollywood wedding, too. Also, from the Bollywood fraternity, Salman Khan, Katrina Kaif, Jacqueline Fernandez, Karan Johar and Manish Malhotra are likely to attend the wedding. Varun’s first co-star and close friend Alia Bhatt is planning to be there for his big day along with boyfriend Ranbir Kapoor. However, Alia is currently shooting a song sequence for Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Gangubai Kathiawadi and she will travel to Alibaug if she manages to complete the shoot within the scheduled time.
Post the wedding, Varun and Natasha plan to host a party in Mumbai for their friends and relatives, who couldn’t be a part of the celebrations in Alibaug.
I have heard that Varun Dhawan's wedding is happening this weekend-Pahlaj Nihalani

David Dhawan's frequent collaborator Pahlaj Nihalani confirms Varun Dhawan's shaadi lined up for January 24; Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Karan Johar invited to intimate beach reception
Upala KBR (MID-DAY; January 19, 2021)
After postponing his May 2020 destination wedding due to the pandemic, Varun Dhawan is ready to walk into the sunset with his 'dulhania'. It can now be confirmed that the actor and his long-time partner Natasha Dalal will become man and wife on January 24 in an intimate ceremony at a beach resort in Alibaug. Contrary to reports that the wedding will be a three-day affair, complete with mehndi, sangeet and reception, mid-day has learnt that the Dhawans have planned a one-day celebration with the shaadi during the day and a low-key reception in the evening.
Producer Pahlaj Nihalani, who backed several David Dhawan movies in the '90s, confirms the development, saying, "I have heard that Varun's wedding is happening this weekend. But I have not received an invite yet. David and I talk once in a while, but he hasn't mentioned the wedding to me. I wish the couple all the best."
A guest invited to the nuptials reveals that the family has drawn out a guest list of 50, as per safety restrictions. Needless to say, Varun's mentor Karan Johar, and idol Salman Khan will be present at the do. It is heard that the guests will board private yachts from Gateway of India to head to Mandwa jetty. From there, private cars will escort them to the beach resort booked out for the ceremony.
"The wedding will see only the families and the couple's school friends in attendance. Last week, the families sent e-invites for the reception. Shah Rukh Khan may not be able to make it as he is shooting for Pathan in a bio-bubble. Other guests include Varun's directors Remo D'Souza and Shashank Khaitan, Shilpa Shetty and Raj Kundra, and Vashu Bhagnani. Since David is diabetic and suffered a heart attack in 2013, sons Varun and Rohit don't want to risk his health by having a grand reception," says the source. While Varun's wedding outfit will be designed by couturier friend Kunal Rawal, Dalal will wear her own creation.

Varun Dhawan’s bride-to-be Natasha Dalal to design her own bridal outfit

BOMBAY TIMES (January 16, 2021)
While there has been much speculation about Varun Dhawan and Natasha Dalal’s wedding date, as per our sources, the first big Bollywood wedding of 2021 will take place over five days — January 22 and 26 — at a property in Alibaug. The Dhawans and the Dalals are likely to reach the location a day or so in advance to ensure that all the preparations are in order.
Meanwhile, a close source tells us that Natasha, who is a fashion designer by profession, has designed her own wedding outfit. She is known for the stunning bridal outfits that she designs for others brides-to-be, so it’s no surprise that she has decided to self-style her wedding ensemble. We reached out to Varun, but the actor did not respond till the time of going to press.
The shaadi will be a very close-knit affair with just about 20-25 people in attendance, keeping in mind the Coronavirus protocols. In a recent interview, Varun had confessed that he did plan down to settle soon, however, the wedding date was kept under wraps. With childhood sweethearts Varun and Natasha walking down the aisle, it remains to be seen if they inspire other Bollywood couples to follow suit.

In a recent interview to Filmfare, talking about his marriage plans with girlfriend Natasha Dalal, Varun Dhawan revealed that, “If things settle down (Coronavirus and its impact), then maybe this year. I mean… I am planning for it definitely soon. But let there be more certainty.” Ever since he spoke about his wedding plans, there have been constant speculations about Varun and Natasha’s big day. A few days ago, it was reported that the couple would be tying the knot at the end of this month.
Talking to Bombay Times, Varun’s uncle and actor, Anil Dhawan, says, “Wow, I am surprised. They are marrying this month, and we didn’t know? Are they going to invite us last moment? Itna secret rakh rahe hai kya (laughs!)?”
He further adds, “These stories have been floating around since a long time. Last year, there was buzz that they would be getting married in May. Whatever it is, as a family, we want him to get married soon. I feel this is one ritual you have got to do in time. There is no point prolonging it.”
When prodded further about the wedding date, he says, “We have been telling Varun to skip plans of hosting grand celebrations, and instead, opt for a simple, intimate ceremony aur bas ladki ko jaldi ghar le aao (smiles!).”
Varun Dhawan-Natasha Dalal, Ali Fazal-Richa Chadha's summer weddings postponed after Coronavirus outbreak?

Mohar Basu (MID-DAY; March 18, 2020)
The year began with the promise of two big, fat Indian weddings in Tinsel town — rumours were rife that Varun Dhawan and longtime girlfriend Natasha Dalal were set to exchange vows this summer while Richa Chadha and Ali Fazal's four-year romance would get its happily-ever-after with an April wedding. However, with the Coronavirus outbreak in the country, it may be a while before either couple walks down the aisle.
A source reveals that in light of the recent developments, the Dhawans have shifted their wedding dates to the second half of the year. "The initial plan was to have an intimate wedding on a private island in Thailand, but it was scrapped last month in favour of a destination wedding in Jodhpur. Eventually, they called that off too and were considering having a low-key ceremony in Mumbai. But looking at the current scenario, they have decided to tentatively push the shaadi to November and have reverted to their original choice of destination — Thailand."
Chadha and Fazal too may postpone their round of band, baaja, baaraat. "Many of their guests were to fly in from the US and Europe for the do. Also, the couple was hoping to have their nuptials in Delhi, which is currently on a partial lockdown. So, they think it's best to delay the wedding to later this year," says a source close to the couple.

BOMBAY TIMES (May 26, 2019)
Though Varun Dhawan, in an interview, had said that his schedule doesn’t give him the time to plan a wedding this year, the buzz about the actor tying the knot with girlfriend Natasha Dalal at the end of this year is getting stronger. While there were rumours about Goa being the destination for the wedding, a source tells us that Jodhpur, Rajasthan, is where the shaadi may take place. Last December, Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas, too, had taken their vows in the Blue City.
The source says, “Varun and Natasha’s wedding will be a three-day affair with close friends and family in attendance. They want a November-December wedding, and the date will be finalised on the basis of the availability of the venue. Post the Jodhpur wedding, they will host a reception in Mumbai.”
Varun Dhawan-Natasha Dalal's wedding might happen next year, says David Dhawan

MUMBAI MIRROR (April 27, 2019)
On Friday, David Dhawan put reports of a November wedding for son Varun Dhawan and his steady date, Natasha Dalal, to rest. While talking to mensxp.com, the veteran filmmaker stated that the wedding “will happen next year maybe. I am very happy with their relationship. What more does a father need?”
While on the subject of his younger son, David also revealed that the family celebrated Varun’s 32nd birthday on April 24 by cutting a cake, even though the actor was in Thailand on a boys’ trip for the big day. “We were on the phone and Facebook with him. We cut a cake here and my granddaughter Nyra (elder son Rohit Dhawan’s daughter with wife Jahnvi), who is not even one, joined us. We managed to celebrate his birthday,” David added.
My private life is very exciting-Varun Dhawan

The real reason why Varun Dhawan won’t talk about the love of his life
Sarita A Tanwar (DNA; July 29, 2015)
Varun Dhawan might not speak about it, but those in
the know, swear that he has a girlfriend called Natasha Dalal. They have
been together for years. She comes from a non-film family, and their
relationship has survived despite linkups with Alia Bhatt and Nargis
Fakhri. Ask Varun if he chooses not to talk about her because he’s
afraid of losing his female fans and he shrugs, “No, that is not so. I
think that time has gone when actors did that.”
It has never been proved if actors’ relationship status affects their careers, but Aamir Khan and Govinda hid the fact that they were married. In the 90s, actors believed that the ladies would warm to actors only if they were single. He agrees, “There was a time when actors believed that it would harm their careers if they came out in the open about their private life.”
So why isn’t he coming out in the open about his girlfriend. He smiles, “Why am I not speaking out about my private life? Because there is too much to speak about. It will overtake my professional life. I am telling you, my private life is very exciting. I know if I reveal something about my private life, then people will be not be interested in my work. I am not a boring person. You know how some people say ‘Oh, I am very boring, there is nothing to talk about my life, It is an open book and all that stuff?’ I am not like that.”
A lot of actors are now living in before they get married. Does he see himself doing that? He shakes his head, “I don’t believe in live-in relationships. So, no I don’t think I can do that.” I venture a guess if it’s because he is a family boy, who lives with his parents and doesn’t want to change that? He replies. “Not because I am a family boy... I mean when the time comes, I might. Who knows? Har cheez ki, aur har insaan ki aukat hoti hai. Right now my aukat is not to be in a live-in relationship, to support someone.”
What does he means by aukat? “Aukat means... dimaag ka aukat hona chahiye. You should have a full aukat in the sense that you should be mature enough to have a relationship. I am not mature, I am a child right now. I am 27, I need to grow up a little bit and then I can.”
Shahid Kapoor has just got married in his mid-30s. But he was single for a while now. But Varun doesn’t want to get hitched for a while. When I ask at what age does he see himself getting married? He grins, “I wanted to get married at 22. When I was out of college, I was ready to get married. Then I realised it’s not a good idea. I was just fascinated with the idea of getting married. But I am not getting married. People can relax about that. Not right now, at least for a while.”
Varun can get married once Salman gets married-David Dhawan

Priya Gupta (BOMBAY TIMES; March 28, 2014)
Varun Dhawan may think that his father David Dhawan doesn’t know his feelings for him, but in reality he does, as Varun’s mother shares it all with her husband. David finds his son naughty, grounded and talented, but under no circumstance will he let his son get married soon, as he believes that Varun needs to be married to his profession right now. On being asked about Varun’s marriage plans, David immediately said, ‘Salman Khan ab tak shaadi kiya kya? So how can Varun? He can get married once Salman gets married.’ We bring you excerpts of our conversation with the respected director David about his actor son Varun.
How is Varun as a son?
Varun has always been naughty, but is an amazing child. He was never demanding and was happy to play with his toys and his GI Joe till he became big, where he would take his GI Joe to his bathroom while taking a bath. He loves sports and was a good runner. He has his simple friends from school days who are all grounded and he would even today prefer going with his friends to a Shiv Sagar to have a dosa versus going to a fancy place. If he is in the car and I call him and ask him where he is, he will not know. If you ask him what time it is, he will not know. I have never hit him. While I provided for both my sons financially, I never realised when they grew up, as I was very busy in the 90s, perpetually living out of a suitcase. It’s only when my older son Rohit went to the US and Varun to Nottingham that my wife said, ‘David what are you doing?’ And I realised what I had missed as a father. I would talk daily to Rohit and Varun. We thought that Varun would return to work for a bank, but he shocked us on his return when he said he wanted to become an actor. Even though he is doing well now, he is not the materialistic kind and even today, I manage his finances and income tax-related things. He is my friend and he will wrestle on my bed with me as long as just four years back. He would come on my set and help and be happy to be the spot boy. His mother has always kept him grounded. She would take Varun in a rickshaw to play cricket and would manage everything. He is very grounded and respects his elders very well.
Does he show you his emotion?
He shows it very less, but I come to know through his mother. He nearly died when I fell sick while shooting Main Tera Hero. He was crying and was upset with me and was running around, but did not let me know that. But he doesn’t know that I knew. I know that he is concerned about my health. But for me to return the next day itself from the hospital was important, as in my kind of cinema, by my not being there you could miss a laugh. My wife and sons treat me like a child and don’t allow me to even cross the road. I want to tell them that I have been street-smart and can manage. At heart, I am still a middle-class boy, who loves noise and has come up step-by-step.
What has Varun taken after you?
The best thing I like about him is his passion about work. He has the killer instinct. I was also like that. I too was very competitive, where if you push me against the wall, I will strike back. He is even more competitive than me. I would eat breakfast not knowing whether I would get lunch and lived hand-to-mouth. Iska baap toh David Dhawan hai, mera baap toh koi nahi tha.
How do you find him as an actor?
He met Karan Johar on his own and wanted to assist him as he was starting My Name Is Khan with Shah Rukh and Kajol. Varun wanted to see both these stars act, post which Karan cast him in Student Of The Year. Once, Karan called me to see one of his songs and that was the time I saw him dancing. Seeing him dance, my heart swelled, as he was dancing so well. He has the rhythm, which either you have it or don’t have it. Karan has given him a great launch. I remember the first trial for which Karan called us. Yash Chopraji was sitting at the back and Yashji said, ‘Tera beta kamaal hai’ during the interval. I saw the climax and told Rohit, ‘He is an actor. There is nothing to worry about him’ and I hugged Varun.
You have worked with two of the biggest actors, Govinda and Salman. How does Varun compare as a hero versus them in a David Dhawan film?
It’s very difficult for me to comment on this, but he will join them. I have tried to do the best with him and now it’s up to him what he does. He is a newcomer. He has a long way to go to be where they are. I have made him do the best that a newcomer can do. I get calls asking whether he is available and I feel very
proud of him. I also feel happy for my wife Lali, as she goes out feeling proud that she is his mother.
Varun and stars like him have impacted established stars. Likewise, newcomer directors have impacted older directors like you. So in a sense you both are in opposite boats. How long do you see yourself directing?
My last film Chashme Baddoor was a hit. I will be there till my shoes are on.
Do you see Varun getting married?
No, I don’t see him getting married. I will take the daylights out of him if he was to. He is married to only his profession at the moment. Salman Khan abhi tak shaadi kiya kya?
How do you find Ekta Kapoor as a producer?
She is a very aggressive producer. She has a pulse of the market and understands the audience and scripts. She is very today. She knows how to market her film and goes all for it.
Does the fact that Varun is in the film add to your stress?
I enjoyed working with him but there is box office pressure. My track record is hit with all my films. So I must prove myself with Varun, otherwise people will say, ‘Ghar mein kya kiya apne?’ It has been over 25 years of being a director. I feel it is payback time now and I am enjoying this phase more than any other phase in my life. Maybe it’s because my sons are with me. Rohit has been with me from the birth of this film. I wanted him to direct this film, but he felt this was completely my kind of film. But he selected locations for me and was with me throughout and looked after me selflessly. He is my Shravan Kumar.
