Filming for last leg of Sallu franchise to resume in Feb with action-packed sequences choreographed by Korean stunt team

The month of January will provide a short relief for Salman Khan, who has had a choc-a-block date diary this year. After completing Farhad Samji’s Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan last month, Khan will return to play the part of RAW agent Avinash Singh Rathod in the final leg of Tiger 3 in February.

The upcoming leg will be the final shooting schedule for Maneesh Sharma’s espionage thriller after the cast and crew, including Katrina Kaif, completed filming major portions in New Delhi earlier this year. The team, we’re told, intends to complete the VFX-heavy sections, and action sequences, in this leg.

A source tells mid-day, “Prior to the New Delhi schedule, Salman had shot some dramatic confrontation scenes with the rest of the cast at Yash Raj Studios. The last schedule of Tiger 3 is a week-long one, and will be a continuation of the scenes that were shot last year. Now, jail interiors will be recreated in the studio.”

In keeping with the high-octane action visuals that have become synonymous with the franchise, the makers have left no stone unturned to deliver impactful performances in this edition as well. A Korean stunt team, we hear, has choreographed the sequences that will be filmed.

“In this jail-break scene, a set [designed by Mayur Sharma] will be recreated using VFX. Professional body-builder Varinder Singh Ghuman will join Salman again after their last schedule in July. Emraan Hashmi plays the role of an agent who is pitted against Tiger.”

While Kumud Mishra, Anant Vidhaat, and actor-director Revathy — as Khan’s mentor and RAW chief Shenoy — are also part of Tiger 3, only Ghuman and Salman will be part of this schedule that will involve scenes showcasing their face-off.

Meanwhile, a forthcoming leg will see Shah Rukh Khan and Salman shoot their collaborative scenes, as YRF producer Aditya Chopra brings his two RAW agents, from different movies, together.

“The worlds of RAW agents Tiger and Pathaan will collide in Tiger 3. A massive action scene will be shot after this schedule. Maneesh has already designed SRK’s introduction scene for it.”

Last year, Salman, as Tiger, had shot for an action-packed extended cameo in Pathaan, which releases soon.

Antagonist Emraan Hashmi kickstarts shoot of Tiger 3 opposite Salman Khan

Upala KBR (MID-DAY; August 1, 2021)

A schedule of Tiger 3 was set in motion on July 23 with Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif. Emraan Hashmi, who plays the antagonist, reported to set on July 26. The unit is expected to wrap up the shoot at the Yash Raj Studios in Andheri by mid-August before they move to the international leg of the filming.

A trade source informs, “Emraan Hashmi and Salman Khan are sharing screen space for the first time. Professional bodybuilder Varinder Singh Ghuman joined Emraan and Salman on July 29 to can the lengthy and intense confrontational scenes.”

The units will travel to Europe countries and the Gulf region to shoot high-octane action sequences and songs.

The production house has kept Hashmi’s looks for the third instalment under wraps. “Apparently, Emraan has more than one look in the movie. Fitness and bodybuilding expert Miihier Singh has been specifically training him for the role.”

Unlike his usual suave and grunge look, Hashmi will be sporting a stylish salt-and-pepper beard for Tiger 3. “Emraan [will play] a sophisticated villain. His larger-than-life character will take on Salman’s on-screen persona after they indulge in a game of cat-and-mouse. People will remember the villain long after the film has been released,” reveals a source close to the production, adding that their first scene together was shot on a set designed to look like the interiors of a Middle Eastern house.

Professional wrestler Varinder Singh Ghuman bags Puneet Issar's He-Man

Puneet Issar's bilingual marks the B'wood debut of Varinder Singh Ghuman, a pehelwan, who after being crowned Mr India is now vying for the Mr Olympia title

Mirror was the first to report that Aankhen girl Ritu Shivpuri was making her big-screen comeback with the Puneet Issar directed He-Man, a Hindi-Punjabi bilingual set in Punjab (July 2). Now, the actor-director has finalised Varinder Singh Ghuman as his leading man. A professional wrestler and bodybuilder from Punjab, Varinder is the first Indian to get a Pro Card by International Federation of Bodybuilding and Fitness (IFBB). He won the Mr India pageant in 2009 and is now vying for the Mr Olympia title.

"We have all grown up hero worshipping Dara Singh. I believe Dharmendra, Sunil Dutt and Vinod Khanna were the last of the true action heroes. I wanted to fill this space which has remained largely vacant since. I knew Varinder was my leading man the moment I met him," says Puneet, who began shooting with his 6'4" hero in a suburban Mumbai studio in November.

He reveals that it's an emotional father-son story. The father puts up a brave front for his child after losing his wife. "Every man is a He-Man for his child," asserts Puneet, who spent eight months training Varinder for the role and believes that with his imposing body offset by his soft face and gentle demeanour, he suits the role of the father to the T.

He adds that despite his bodybuilding background, Varinder was made to undergo training with action director, Moses Kaushal. "We also had speech classes and reading sessions with him," says the director who has already shot some high-octane action sequences with his He-Man and will film some more in December.

After that, they move to Punjab and Shimla for the last leg and are hoping to wrap up the film by February. Puneet has co-written the film with his son Siddhant and also plays a Superintendent of Police (SP). "You will also see my Bigg Boss mates, Praneet Bhat and Pritam Singh, in pivotal roles," he says.

Before signing off, he is quick to add that despite its title, his film has nothing to do with the popular comic book superhero or the 1987 Hollwood film, Masters of the Universe, popularly referred to as He-Man. Nor does it have any connection with Anil Kapoor's much-loved character, Mr India. "Our He-Man is a loving dad and in a league of his own," he smiles.

Salman Khan is known to be generous when it comes to helping newcomers in the industry. He has spotted a lot of talent in the past and buzz has it that thanks to him, India’s first vegetarian wrestler, Varinder Singh Ghuman, who will be seen in Kamal Sadanah’s directorial debut, Roar — Tigers of the Sunderbans, will also star in a film based on Gama Pehlwan.

Sources say that Salman first spotted Varinder during the shoot of Sadanah’s film; the actor apparently discussed casting him in Sohail Khan’s Sher Khan. But their conversation was not taken forward since Sohail’s film got delayed.

That said, Salman recently met the wrestler at the first look launch of Kamal Sadanah’s film, and that’s where Salman apparently spoke to Varinder and roped him in to play a wrestler in Gama Pehalwan.

Says Varinder, “I was rehearsing for an action sequence with actor Allan Amin for Kamal Sadanah’s film at Mehboob Studios when Salman dropped in on the sets since he was shooting for one of his films at the same studio. He then met me and offered me a role in Sher Khan, but the film got pushed ahead. When we met again recently, he offered me a pivotal role in this film based on Gama Pehlwan’s life. I will be playing a wrestler in the film.”

The wrestler says that he was surprised to see that the actor knew a lot about him. “We discussed my diet and a few body- building techniques. The film on Gama Pehlwan will go on the floors first and I am hoping that I will also be a part of Sohail bhai’s Sher Khan,” he says.
