BEAUTY AND THE BEAST is doing well in the second week with collections set to drop under 50%. The film is likely to finish the second week with business of 5.50 crore nett which will take the film to 16 crore nett. The collection is not high but the trend is good and a 20 crore nett finish will be a decent result for the film. Action films like XXX: RETURN OF XANDER CAGE and LOGAN have done business of 35 crore nett and 32 crore nett respectively. So this type of a film which does not have much of a market in India getting 20 crore is not bad. The business of BEAUTY AND THE BEAST till date is as follows.

TRAPPED crashed in the second week with collections of just 25 lakhs nett till Tuesday which means the week may hit 30 lakhs nett taking its total to 2.50 crore nett. The film is looking to finish at lifetime business of 2.75 crore nett which will be a share of 1.25 crore and that will be the bulk of the revenue as music, overseas, satellite and digital will hardly bring in anything.

MACHINE and AA GAYA HERO crashed even worse with hardly any collections in the second week and there will be huge losses for MACHINE. It may get 2-3 crore television revenue but still the film is looking at a loss of 20 crore plus.

BEAUTY AND THE BEAST managed to gross around 10 crore nett in its first week and the English version will hold well in the second week. MACHINE is very poor and remains in just some single screens in week two. TRAPPED had steady but very low mid week collections but as occupancy was so low the film just remains in one show at select multiplexes outside Mumbai city where it has a little show. The film has been totally rejected. The Govinda starrer AA GAYA HERO is another disaster and its sad to see a big star of the 90's getting even lower collections than a no hoper like TRAPPED. BEAUTY AND THE BEAST continued to easily beat the Hindi films although collections are low. The film is mainly for kids and families in metros so could put some collections over on Saturday and Sunday again. The film is a huge blockbuster in its domestic market with the four day business more or less beating the lifetime business of all films in 2017 but India does not have much of a market for these type of films. The Hindi films held up pretty well compared to their Friday business but that is because there was no Friday business. MACHINE business in single screens on Monday is same as Friday while TRAPPED was same as Friday on Monday at multiplexes. The Hollywood release BEAUTY AND THE BEAST continued to dominate the new Hindi releases AA GAYA HERO, MACHINE and TRAPPED as it showed the good growth on Saturday as well as having the best collections by a distance. The film showed growth of around 60% on its second day taking its collections to nearly 3.75 crore nett in two days. AA GAYA HERO and MACHINE were flat while TRAPPED showed some growth but it is irrelevant at such low occupancy and numbers. All three films are disasters and will fail to recover in P & A (Print & Advertisement) costs from the theaters. The apprx business of the main new releases this week is as follows.

The Hollywood release BEAUTY AND THE BEAST showed good growth over the weekend but collections were low but despite that it had a weeeknd which was easily more than the three Hindi films combined. MACHINE and AA GAYA HERO fared very poorly as they were outdated films while TRAPPED was never going to get any footfalls even at high end multiplexes. When films which are like A grade European films (Rangoon and Rock On 2) are disasters then what chance a film does a C grade European film have. It was a disaster weekend for Hindi films. The Hollywood release BEAUTY AND THE BEAST easily beat the Hindi releases AA GAYA HERO, MACHINE and TRAPPED. The collections of BEAUTY AND THE BEAST were actually more than the three Hindi releases combined as the former got around 1.50 crore nett while the three Hindi films combined were at just 1 crore nett apprx. This is not to say that BEAUTY AND THE BEAST is good as occupancy is low and these type of films don't really have a market in India. The best growth is also likely for this film.
