TOTAL DHAMAAL had a ten week run and ended its collections on 150 crore nett which made it the third highest NETT grosser of the year after URI and KESARI. In terms of GROSS it is second as its GROSS numbers are better than KESARI.

The film had a prolonged run in Mumbai city, Pune and the main cities of Gujarat which took the Mumbai circuit total to 55.28 crore nett which is similar to higher all India grossers like KRRISH 3 and 2.0 which did 56 crore nett and 57 nett respectively. The Delhi/UP business was just 27.93 crore nett as Delhi city and Noida recorded average figures though rest of the circuit did well.

East Punjab was average at 11.51 crore nett but Rajasthan, CP Berar, CI, Nizam/Andhra and Bihar all did HIT business.

TOTAL DHAMAAL is still running as it continues to collect in Mumbai circuit. The film has had a long run in Mumbai, Pune, Ahmedabad and Surat. The film will hit the 150 crore nett mark this week and although KESARI will cross the NETT collections of TOTAL DHAMAAL, the GROSS numbers will stay below as TOTAL DHAMAAL has a huge chunk of its business coming from Gujarat where the the combined taxes are much higher. The GROSS figures of TOTAL DHAMAAL so far are 179 crore while KESARI is 174.50 crore.

GULLY BOY and TOTAL DHAMAAL are coming to the end of their runs and the comparison of these two films pretty much tells the fake perception that GULLY BOY has been immensely appreciated and even created a superstar. TOTAL DHAMAAL is also not a hugely appreciated film but the regular Hindi bread and butter film but whichever way you look it as it has been liked more than the so called classic GULLY BOY. Only in India these sort of films like GULLY BOY which have no life after theatrical run (that too mainly in five metros) are called classics.

The reason why these adjectives come up is not because of the film but who makes the film and these makers and the writers generally belong to the same circle so it becomes a classic and then its latched onto and out comes a superstar PR exercise. No matter how bad the director is or how poor the film is for most of audience the picture shown is different. Both GULLY BOY and TOTAL DHAMAAL were released on a similar number of screens with TOTAL DHAMAAL having a little more but GULLY BOY got more screens at higher ticket priced multiplexes. The second week business alone of TOTAL DHAMAAL is almost the total business of GULLY BOY after the first seven days so if GULLY BOY is classic then TOTAL DHAMAAL has to be one of the best films ever made going by how the films have trended over time. The fourth week of TOTAL DHAMAAL being almost three times better than Gully Boy pretty much tells the fact which film has been liked but the opposite fiction will be out there as well.

Both films are HITS but take out the extended weekend and Valentines Day from GULLY BOY and give it to TOTAL DHAMAAL and the gap would be even bigger between the two films. Even in Mumbai circuit where GULLY BOY fared best it has been beaten by TOTAL DHAMAAL in three weeks alone. The funniest thing is that the collections of GULLY BOY have gone down fast after week one but its still called one of the best films ever made in India when in fact its not even the best film of a 2 and a half month old 2019. That title belongs to URI - THE SURGICAL STRIKE.

The collections should keep on coming for the film to finish a little over 150 crore nett. The weekend growth was less compared to previous weekends but that could be because of IPL.

TOTAL DHAMAAL did well on Wednesday as it collected 7 crore nett to take the six day total to 86.50 crore nett. The film has held on Wednesday which has been the day that many films have shown a bigger than normal drop in the recent past. An example of this was GULLY BOY which was very steady on Monday and Tuesday but then had a big fall on Wednesday.

TOTAL DHAMAAL is holding up well across the country. Gujarat/Saurashtra and UP are the best areas but Delhi NCR and East Punjab which were on the lower side over the weekend have sustained well over the weekdays. The first week is looking at 92.50 crore nett first week if the collections drop another 15% like they have on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The second Friday will tell where the film is going and whether it has any chance for a 150 crore nett finish.

TOTAL DHAMAAL had good collections on Tuesday with figures in the 8.25-8.50 crore nett range. The film has now collected a little under 80 crore nett in the five days since release. The film has scored all over with the best performance coming in Gujarat/Saurashtra and Central India while East Punjab and Delhi city could be a little better.

The drop is in the 15% range on Tuesday and a similar hold on Wednesday would mean the film closing the first week with around 93 crore nett. Basically the film will almost the cover the lifetime business of the last Ajay Devgn starrer RAID in around 8 days.

The film is doing as much business in Gujarat/Saurashtra as SIMMBA and that film had the holiday advantage over the New Year period.

TOTAL DHAMAAL had a very good hold on Monday with collections hitting double digits on Monday as it collected 9.75-10 crore nett. The drop from day one is under 40% and many places dropped even less than that. It takes the four day total of the film to 71 crore nett. It is the second film this year to hit double digits on Monday after URI. Even in history only around 25 films have hit the double digit mark on Monday.

The film is a HIT and can go higher depending on the hold in week two. It had super strong hold in UP and Gujarat with some centers in these two states showing falls of just 30%. The metros also have held though from lower levels. The slightly disappointing business is Delhi city and East Punjab but there comedies historically have always been less unless the base is there.

The week could go to 95 crore nett range which would be a big total and the second week is LUKKA CHUPPI which is not huge competition especially in the places where TOTAL DHAMAAL is strong.

TOTAL DHAMAAL had a very good weekend of 61 crore nett which is the highest weekend of 2019 till date. The film has done well over though it did start a little low at some places on Friday but they picked up over the weekend as the families and kids came out. The film is best in Gujarat/Saurashtra and Central India while it is under performing in Delhi city and East Punjab but these are still decent.

The film may have been affected by the cricket match on Sunday but it would not have been too much as 25% growth on Sunday is a very good result. TOTAL DHAMAAL is also the highest non holiday weekend for an Ajay Devgn starrer with the best before this being BOL BACHCHAN (2012) with 39.50 crore nett. There have been SINGHAM RETURNS and GOLMAAL AGAIN  with weekends of 76 crore nett and 87 crore nett respectively but those were holiday releases.

The way this film is going it looks like it will emerge the first clean HIT of this franchise though that will depend on Monday. The film also got a huge value on satellite and digital which meant it was pretty much safe before release.

It was a good thing that this film released a week after GULLY BOY as the media step motherly treatment can easily be seen. Last week the attempt was to get even the dogs and cats into the theatres and this week it is the opposite and make sure people stay away. But the audience has a mind of its own though it does have a little affect in the big metros.

It was being said in industry rounds that the big national daily Hindustan Times actually implied that an actor like Ayushmann Khurana was better than Ajay Devgn just to put the film down. This daily has a huge reach maybe more than the film itself and readers of it in the national language may even ask who is Ayushmann Khurana while others who by chance may have seen some of his work will ask whether he can actually act.

Here you are not just being comparing but implying he is better than someone who has almost 100 films as main lead. Forget the box office, performances, Hits and all that, just to do 100 films as main lead is a huge achievement as not many in history have done this. All this without any facts or figures is mentioned just to put a film down.

The collections of TOTAL DHAMAAL went up to 20 crore nett on Saturday as it showed growth of 25% which is very good. The film was strong in some circuits on day one and they have recorded very limited growth or in a similar range as single screens don't tend to grow on day two when the open well.

The film is up where the opening was not so strong with Mumbai, Delhi NCR, East Punjab and Mysore showing the most growth. Also it as after a long time that a film is doing so well in Gujarat/Saurashtra. If we compare with recent big films then they are better than SIMMBA which was good in Gujarat and will do lifetime of GULLY BOY in the weekend alone. It could become the biggest grosser since SANJU in Gujarat/Saurashtra.

The way this film is going it looks like it will emerge the first clean HIT of this franchise though it will be Monday that will confirm.

The film is heading for the highest weekend of the year so far although there have not been many films this year but a total somewhere in the region of 60 crore nett is a big number for this film.

The last DHAMAAL film in 2011 had grossed 45 crore nett which will be more than covered in 3 days.

TOTAL DHAMAAL had good collections on day one with 16-16.25 crore nett which is the second biggest opening day of year after GULLY BOY. But that was a Valentines Day release and if we discount that factor then TOTAL DHAMAAL becomes the top opener of 2019.

The film has scored big in mass markets all over with places like Rajasthan, CI, CP Berar, Nizam/Andhra, Bihar and Gujarat all recording similar numbers as SIMMBA and that film had the brand value of Rohit Shetty who has so many mass hits behind him and on top one super hit song whereas the music for TOTAL DHAMAAL was a dud.

The opening day is also the best Ajay Devgn non holiday opening day beating BOL BACHCHAN by a considerable margin. The cast really on had Ajay Devgn as the others hold little value at the ticket window today. The cast and the genre meant the film had little for the metros so Mumbai, Delhi and Bangalore had limited collections. Mumbai was reasonable but Delhi city was disappointing and Punjab also remained low.

TOTAL DHAMAAL has a solid footing and now needs to build a little on it with mass circuits remaining steady an the big metros going up on Saturday. If this happens then it have a very strong Sunday.
