THUGS OF HINDOSTAN has taken a poor start in China with collections looking to similar or even less than PAD MAN released a couple of weeks back. PAD MAN grossed $1.5 million apprx. Although the expectations were huge from THUGS OF HINDOSTAN pre release due to the Aamir Khan factor it was pretty much known that the film was not happening when advances opened as the film only picked up $450k in advances.

Nevertheless it will be the first film where the producers have made huge money in China instead of the local Chinese distributors. The last two Aamir Khan films, DANGAL and SECRET SUPERSTAR, have been a goldmine for the Chinese with only a limited amount coming back to the producers. Its going to be the opposite with THUGS OF HINDOSTAN as distributors lose huge.

The 115 crore deal for China means its a near 375 crore final recovery on THUGS OF HINDOSTAN for producers YRF who released the film themselves barring China. This is actually the highest recovery this year for all Hindi films including SANJU and PADMAAVAT. The film had also crashed everywhere else but film was on the producers book. It means the only losers in monetary terms will be the Chinese and maybe satellite and digital holders as the film was not liked and may not find the viewership over time to recover the huge prices paid for digital and satellite.

Aamir Khan is the still the only Indian actor who is a big star in China despite the results of THUGS OF HINDOSTAN in China. But reports say that almost 60% of the audience for Indian films in China is women so the content that is more likely to work there will be female driven rather that the regular male driven cinema which gets big results in India.

THUGS OF HINDOSTAN collected just 75 lakhs nett on Monday and even a very ratio of business is coming from single screens especially UP as the multiplexes have just capitulated. The film will not do 3 times its opening day business when the good big films go and do around 3 times the weekend business. This is films that open with big numbers. In Delhi/UP, East Punjab and Mysore the film will close with less business than BADHAAI HO.

THUGS OF HINDOSTAN grossed just 5.25 crore nett over its second weekend which is a huge 95% drop from its first three days. The film is the worst Khan performer in recent times barring JAB HARRY MET SEJAL

The second weekend business is lower than films like FAN and TUBELIGHT. These films like JAB HARRY MET SEJAL, FAN and TUBELIGHT were big films mainly because a Khan was in them, not on the basis of the production budget. But in the case of  THUGS OF HINDOSTAN, it was the budget also. In terms of the audience point of view THUGS OF HINDOSTAN would have looked a much bigger film than the other ones and this is why it opened far bigger than JAB HARRY MET SEJAL, FAN or TUBELIGHT

The film will basically be out after two weeks. The film shows that there is no worst case scenario when a film is rejected as it can turn lower than the worst case scenario.

THUGS OF HINDOSTAN showed limited growth of around 40% on Saturday to take its total to 137 crore nett. The second weekend is 3 crore nett and it will probably do around 5.50 crore nett which is almost 95% down from the first three days.

This crash is despite the new releases being a poor lot and the audience showing limited interest in them. It could be that BADHAAI HO has a higher fifth week than THUGS OF HINDOSTAN second week which was unthinkable prior to the release of the latter.

The way the film is going it will fall short of 45 crore nett in Mumbai and also 30 crore nett in Delhi/UP and these are best as first week saw extended holidays in Gujarat and UP. East Punjab will not even do 12 crore nett.

THUGS OF HINDOSTAN had another major fall on its second Friday as the film fell over 50% from Thursday. The collections of the film are 1.25 crore nett apprx on its second Friday which takes the business to around 135.50 crore nett. The film will not reach the 150 crore nett mark.

There is normally big growth on the second Saturday in the range of of 50-100% with the lower end for also rans and the higher end for successful films but very few films have a trend like this film. So its very difficult to say where this film will go on Saturday.

The film has been rejected so it could be that growth comes in towards the 50% mark or it could even be lower. The second week business of the film will find it hard to reach 10 crore nett.

THUGS OF HINDOSTAN has come a cropper with business of 134 crore nett apprx plus in its extended first week. Ots basically been on free fall after the first day. The film started with 50 crore nett apprx and day eight is 2.75 crore nett apprx. The film needs around 2 crore nett on its second Friday to reach 150 crore nett but it looks impossible considering the falls over the weekdays.

There are a few films released this week with Hollywood release FANTASTIC BEASTS: THE CRIMES OF GRINDELWALD leading the market but basically its very limited competition but that is hardly going to make any difference as THUGS OF HINDOSTAN has faced total rejection and the slide in collections will continue.

The first week has seen Mumbai and Delhi/UP fair best mainly due to prolonged holiday in Gujarat and the post Diwali factor in UP. The film is poor in South India where Aamir Khan films normally outperform.

THUGS OF HINDOSTAN grossed around 131.50 crore nett its first week which is low figure and even this has mainly come due to that big first day. Its day one which makes the number as a whole look okay. The first day is around 38% of its seven day first week total. The daily drops are huge for the film. If we look at the first week then it is actually the fourth best of 2018 and the 15th best of all time but even on an so so film scenario it would have been near the top in 2018 and all time.

On Wednesday, BADHAAI HO went ahead of THUGS OF HINDOSTAN at some multiplexes in the Delhi NCR area. The wait is now for Friday which will tell the lifetime business and it will have to do around 2 crore nett to reach 150 crore nett but the way the weekdays have gone so far that looks a difficult task.

THUGS OF HINDOSTAN fell again on Tuesday as it collected 4.25 crore nett to take its six day total to 127 crore nett aprx. The extended first week is looking at around 134 crore nett and it will be the Friday number which will tell the lifetime number of the film but that Friday number is going to be a total disaster.

There is going to be a huge reduction of shows at multiplexes on Friday. The main single screens will keep the film but that is mainly because there is no replacement. The film is now out of holiday period all over the country. The film has done business of around 14 crore nett in Gujarat/Saurashtra in holiday period which is very low. Last year's GOLMAAL AGAIN had covered this much in three days.

The only place where the business can be said to be OK is UP. The biggest center there Lucknow will be around 25% less than TIGER ZINDA HAI while all India will be 37% less over the first seven days.

The lifetime business of the film could finish below the 150 crore nett mark.

THUGS OF HINDOSTAN crashed out on Monday with 5 crore nett business and this was on the cards. The film has dropped 70% from Sunday and a huge 82% from Friday and it gets worse if we take the drop from the first day which was the holiday for Diwali.

The collections so far are 122.50 crore and with this Monday figure it can see that there is not much petrol left in the tank. The week will close out at 135 crore nett and then there is not much to come even though there is no major release till the end of November.

The business came down across the board on Monday and all circuits were at normal levels with maybe Mumbai and Delhi/UP  being just a tad higher than normal.

THUGS OF HINDOSTAN collected 117.50 crore nett in its extended four day weekend with dropping collections post the huge opening. The first day was 42% of its extended weekend collections and it pretty much tells the story of the film.

The film has basically collected less than what SANJU collected in three days with no holidays and a similar amount to what TIGER ZINDA HAI collected in 3 days but again no holidays. The big holiday was on day one but some parts of the country remained in the holiday zone over all the four days.

The film has done its best business where there was a prolonged holiday but even here the collections are not what they should be. At the end of the its a very poor result and it basically means that both Eid and Diwali have gone wrong this year though RACE 3 on Eid was actually not as bad as THUGS OF HINDOSTAN.

The film is going to suffer badly on Monday but the question is to what levels it will go down to. The film has practically done its business over the four days and there is not much more to come.

Diwali has not lived up to expectations many times in the past ten years and this is one more addition to the list. The blockbusters are comfortably going over 300 crore nett even without holidays yet Diwali has only seen one film get over 200 crore nett in terms of raw nett collections and even that just squeezed past 200 crore nett.

THUGS OF HINDOSTAN saw another drop in collections on Saturday which pretty much seals its fate as the film will doing very low numbers post its extended weekend. There is a good chance the film may also drop on Sunday as there is a big downward trend in collections.

The collections on Saturday were 22.75 crore nett apprx which takes the total to 100.75 crore nett apprx which is the same as RACE 3 had collected in its first three days. The problem for THUGS OF HINDOSTAN is that around 50% of its weekend collections have come on the first day and the three days should have been much more going by that.

The collections are being held up Gujarat, UP and Bihar and while these places also dropped 15% on Saturday they are at high levels due to Diwali and they will come off at one point of time. They are adding an extra 12% to collections everyday going by the normal ratios.

It hope was this film would be one of the better Diwali performers due to the names involved and the mega budget but it has turned out the other way as is the biggest Diwali disappointment in recent times.

RACE 3 was an Eid disappointment earlier this year and if that expected Sunday drop comes with this film then it will be pretty certain that THUGS OF HINDOSTAN will not reach the lifetime numbers of RACE 3.

THUGS OF HINDOSTAN has seen a big fall on day two as collections come in lower than earlier estimates at 28 crore nett apprx. The film has seen a big drop of 45% on an all India basis but most places have come down 50%. The drop is around 30% in UP, Gujarat and Bihar but that is due to post Diwali.

This takes the two day total of the film to 78 crore nett which is a good total but the drop in collections is a bad sign. PREM RATAN DHAN PAYO, which released in 2016 on the same day as THUGS OF HINDOSTAN, grossed 39.32 crore nett on day one and was 29.90 crore nett on day two which is a drop of 24%. Here it is 45% which is far more than it should be.

The drop had to be around 15% if the film was to meet its huge expectations and somewhere between 20-30% would have been called a normal drop. The places that are holding better will eventually drop when the holiday affect is over.

It is a must for the film to see Saturday not drop further just for some respectability in the trend as it will be in free fall if Saturday goes down. The problem will be some centers will come out of the holiday zone which will hit collections and it will be about the metro multiplexes to go up on Saturday.

No matter what happens now it is certain to be an under performing film with this day two number which makes it the second big one after RACE 3. Both also had the two of three best dates of the year with Eid and Diwali. The other good date being Christmas.

THUGS OF HINDOSTAN has set the box office on fire on day one with records all over the place and the highest opening day ever of around 50 crore nett. The film has smashed all circuit records with possibly the exception of Mumbai, CP Berar and Tamil Nadu/Kerala.

CP Berar and Tamil Nadu/Kerala are not records while Mumbai final is pending. The film was hugely aided by the Diwali holiday which is the biggest day of the year for collections. It has beaten BAAHUBALI 2: THE CONCLUSION by around 9 crore nett and PREM RATAN DHAN PAYO by aroond 11 crore nett. These two were the top two prior to THUGS OF HINDOSTAN with PREM RATAN DHAN PAYO being released on the same day as Thugs of Hindostan and BAAHUBALI 2: THE CONCLUSION was a non holiday.

The film will see collections come down from these huge levels on day two though mass markets will hold better due to the Diwali follow up. Gujarat has an extended five day holiday period so that will hold but most multiplexes will see falls and it will be about where the film settles on day two.
