Prem's princess of hearts and lil' sister became besties while promoting Sooraj Barjatya's fantasy family drama last Diwali. And the bonding continues. Sonam Kapoor and Swara Bhaskar let their hair down on Saturday night at Aparna Purohit's suburban residence. Swara's brother, Ishaan, had flown down from Delhi a day earlier to plan a surprise 28th birthday bash for his sis. The party got going at 9 pm and went on all night. “It was an intimate affair with 20 guests and lots of naach gana. Sonam walked in at around 10 pm and stayed on for three hours, mingling with her Prem Ratan Dhan Payo co-star Deepak Dobriyal, actor Pankaj Tripathi, screenwriter Himanshu Sharma and filmmaker Avinash Das among others.“

Composer Rohit Sharma with friend Mayank Saxena, played the djembe and crooned folk songs. The Punjabi tracks and the dhol got everyone dancing. The two sahelis shook a leg to the PRDP title track, Sallu's “Aaj Unse Milna Hai“ as also Anil Kapoor's evergreen “My Name is Lakhan“.

Swara had cut one birthday cake earlier in the evening with the media while promoting her upcoming drama Nil Battey Sannata. Ishaan got her another chocolate cake. The buffet included vegetarian Biryani, fried chicken, cornballs and paneer kebabs. “Sonam stuck to wafers and was among the first friends to wish Swara on her b'day,“ informs a guest.

From being appreciated for her supporting act in Tanu Weds Manu and Raanjhanaa to now sharing the frame with superstar Salman Khan in Prem Ratan Dhan Payo, Swara Bhaskar’s journey in Bollywood has been eventful. The English Literature graduate from Delhi packed her bags and moved to Mumbai five years ago and now, she has found her calling, on the film set. Currently shooting for Tanu Weds Manu Returns, the actress looks forward to celebrating her birthday, today on the sets with the cast and crew. Talking about it she says, “We are on the last leg of the shoots so it will be a working birthday for me. But on the bright side, I am going to be on a set where I feel at home. I am very familiar with the people here and they are my friends so it’s all good. Also, once you get into the profession, you kind of make peace with the fact that you will have to work on most days when the world will be out partying,” she smiles.

Though it will be a working birthday, her mother’s presence is enough to light up her day. “I have bullied my mother to visit me so she will be arriving in the morning and leaving by end of the day,” she says.

So what do you usually celebrate birthdays, we ask? “Well, if I am in Delhi, it is more of a family affair where the focus is on food. If I am in Mumbai, then there is a lot of live music and friends. Birthdays are all about good food and good music,” she explains. Any special birthday gifts? “I can’t even begin to tell you how hooked I am to these online shopping portals. I have crossed all my limits last month and blew up a lot of money. All those things I ordered for, are still arriving so I have lots of birthday gifts.”

She doesn’t believe in resolutions but she is drawing up a list of things she wants to strike off her bucket list. “I wish to travel. I want to finish reading five books. I want to watch a couple of classic films. I also want to learn to cook. Basically, I intend to become a wholesome person. Oh, and I also want to do an item number,” she reveals. Just as she ends her list she adds, “From this year onwards, I am going to start lying about my age. I will always add a couple of candles less to my cakes so nobody knows how old I actually am.”
