Last week, Priyanka Chopra skipped Stardust Awards 2014 ceremony in which she was supposed to perform and collect the Best Actress-Drama trophy for Mary Kom. But, if sources are to be believed, she was unhappy with the award category and hence, chose to give the event a miss. Interestingly, she attended another awards show - BIG Star Entertainment Awards 2014 - a few days later where she bagged two honours for the biopic.

A source says, “In the first event, Priyanka did not approve of the categories she was nominated for. She was hoping the organisers would choose winners wisely but was disappointed with the results.” While a series of sentimental tweets by Priyanka kept people guessing about her state of mind, the actress made an appearance at another awards function. A source says, “She was happy with the organisers’ decision to give her two awards in categories she had hoped to win and so, decided to personally collect them.”

PeeCee was also invited for PK screening by her Dil Dhadakne Do costar Anushka Sharma but she had already committed her presence to the award organisers, the source adds.

Priyanka’s spokesperson remained unavailable for comment.

Priyanka Chopra was slated to perform at an awards function on Sunday but sources suggest that she excused herself from the show at the eleventh hour. Apparently, she had attended the rehearsals and her unanticipated refusal to turn up on the D-day left the organisers in a tizzy. More bemusing was the fact that PeeCee, who is said to have skipped the show for “some other work”, posted a picture of herself spending time with her mother, Madhu Chopra, that very evening.

A source says the actress never showed any hint of displeasure or discomfort during the rehearsals, and so, her decision came as a shock. “The creative team was putting in special efforts to make her performance a success. However, at the last moment she informed the organisers that she had to attend to some other work,” the source adds.

Another source says the show script and performance sequence of other actors had to be re-arranged when she decided not to come, adding: “It would have been nice to see her perform on stage as she also won an award for her film.” The actress’ post on a microblogging site read, “Spending the evening getting some mommy love tonight. Feel like I need it.”

Her next post suggested that she was unhappy: “Politics I’ve learned, is an art form. Yet it saddens the heart when it finds its way into Art, irrevocably changing its soul! #Lesson4Tonight (sic).”

Priyanka was not available for comment.

They have shared icy vibes in the past but were said to have patched up during a recent film screening. But if rumour mills are to be believed, Sonam Kapoor and Deepika Padukone still prefer to keep distance from each other.

A source present at Stardust Awards 2014 on Sunday tells us, “Sonam walked in and asked the organisers to change her seat as she was not keen to meet Deepika, who was to be seated in the same area. She was then accommodated in another actors’ group and immediately left after collecting her award.”

Sonam’s spokesperson denies the buzz and says, “Sonam left long before Deepika even came in — that was an hour before her award was announced. Moreover, she had to rush for a family dinner. Sonam was backstage and on her way out when Deepika walked in. They are absolutely cordial.” Sonam responds to the buzz by saying, “That is really funny.”

History of the cold war
Earlier this year, Sonam during her appearance on Koffee With Karan took a dig at the Ram Leela actress. On being asked about one thing which Deepika Padukone has and she doesn’t, Sonam promptly replied, “An overenthusiastic PR team.”

The two raised a lot of eyebrows when they walked in together for an award function over the weekend. They seemed to be relaxed and enjoying each other’s company on the red carpet. Is this appearance their way of coming out in the open? The Alone co-stars share a sizzling chemistry, as is evident in the film’s teaser trailer. Over the next few weeks leading to the film’s release, that closeness between the co-stars is expected to continue. The question on everybody’s mind: Is this a mere publicity stunt or will they go the distance? For the time being, it’s anybody’s guess really.
