Media ‘kills’ off Tollywood comedian M S Narayana

Media ‘kills’ off Tollywood comedian
Local media wrongly reported that ailing actor M S Narayana has passed away, condolences poured in

Veteran Tollywood comic M S Narayana, who is currently undergoing treatment for malaria in a Hyderabad hospital, was wrongly pronounced dead by the local media.

The news first broke on the noon bulletin of two TV news channels on Thursday and soon the condolence messages started pouring in.

The first to respond was YSR Congress chief Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy who sent out a message of condolence to media outlets, minutes after the death was reported. Other Tollywood veterans including Kota Srinivasa Rao and Srinu Vaitla too joined in to express their grief.

The faux pas was revealed when members of the film fraternity contacted Narayana's family members.

Narayana's children got wind of the 'breaking news' and announced that their father was alive. "We were pained to see this false news on TV channels. Nobody checked with us before pronouncing our father dead," lamented his son Vivek and daughter Sasikiran.

Soon the media and Jagan backtracked, with the politician once again sending out a message asking journalists to ignore the previous message.

The 63-year old Narayana who has acted in over 500 films in a career spanning 35 years, was screened for malaria upon his return from Pongal celebrations in his native place, earlier this month.

He was admitted to KIMS hospital on January 19. After the 'death' rumour, the hospital too released a medical bulletin stating that the actor is alive. "He is on the ventilator and his condition is critical", said Dr. Narayana Babu, who is treating him.

Prakash Raj made to exit project over creative differences

Hiren Kotwani (BOMBAY TIMES; April 14, 2014)

Reliable sources from Hyderabad tell us that actor Prakash Raj, who was on the set of Aagadu (the film is likely to be dubbed in Hindi as well) with Andhra superstar Mahesh Babu, was reportedly asked to leave the project. Reason being his high-handed behaviour at the shoot. Sources say that while the actor reported on the set of the movie on time, he allegedly had differences with director Srinu Vaitla, over his costume and was unwilling to do more than one take.

Since Vaitla was in no mood to tolerate Prakash’s mood swings and attitude, he requested the senior actor to exit the project. It is also being suggested that other senior and respected filmmakers may file a petition against the actor in light of this incident.

While Vaitla declined to comment, Prakash Raj confirmed he’s no longer doing the movie. He said, “We had creative differences. It’s the director’s right whether he wants to cast me or not. It’s better not to work when you’re not comfortable.” When told about some reports that he wasn’t even informed about his ouster from the movie, the actor said, “That’s the director’s right. He can cast anyone else. It’s okay. It’s as siimple as that. I don’t want to make an issue. He has every right as a director and I have mine as a senior actor and I can have creative differences.” As for the reported petition being readied against him, Prakash said, “I have no clue about it.”
