Sonakshi, Luv and Kussh Sinha’s art venture set for inaugural show

Sonakshi, Luv and Kussh’s art venture set for inaugural show

The Sinha siblings will display their artworks, alongside several other budding artists
HINDUSTAN TIMES (April 5, 2022)

Actors Sonakshi Sinha, Luv Sinha and director Kussh Sinha’s art venture, which brought emerging artists to the fore, is holding its first offline exhibition. The exclusive, by-invite-only show, titled Locus of Control, driven by BMW Infinity Cars, Worli (Mumbai), is scheduled for April 9-10.

In July 2021, the Sinha siblings launched their venture titled House of Creativity. The online platform allows art aficionados to procure contemporary artworks from homegrown Indian talents. Their first offline foray is curated by Abhinit Khanna, assisted by Anushka Bhatnagar, and features select works, including paintings, photography, film, textile and new media, by contemporary House of Creativity artists such as Ali Akbar Mehta, Arvind Sundar, Digbijayee Khatua, Govinda Sah Azad, Kedar DK, Koshy Brahmatmaj, Sarika Mehta, Shalaka Patil, Tushar Waghela, Urvi Sethna, as well as Sonakshi, Luv and Kussh.

The goal behind the siblings’ venture was to help budding artists reach a wider audience, which was not always possible on their own, especially amid the pandemic. With the tide finally changing for the better, they want people to identify their hand-picked artists with their works, and that’s the reason behind the offline show.

Sonakshi, a self-taught artist, is thrilled about the venture’s inaugural exhibition and also about showcasing her new series of acrylic on canvas. “My works are about colours and a lot of my identity, but not in an obvious, in-your-face manner. They are my interpretation of self-portraits,” she says.

Luv, who will be displaying two of his photography works, adds, “Our primary goal is to display works of artists on-board at House of Creativity. It’s a huge responsibility to give them a platform... As for my photographs, they are all about energy, colours and positivity.”

Continuing the discussion, Kussh states, “Art is a way of giving your creativity a physical form. Even if I take a digital photograph, how I set the frame or what subjects draw me in, that’s personal. For me, art signifies a memory that causes me to ponder.”

The exhibition will also have a panel talk, besides transmedia artist Ali Akbar Mehta executing a new media artwork intervention inside a brand new BMW 7 series on display. Surely worth taking a dekko!

Sonakshi Sinha to auction 10 paintings; proceeds will be used to provide ration to the needy

While interacting with Mirror (May 8), Sonakshi Sinha had revealed that she has been supplying Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) kits to frontline workers in the fight against Coronavirus and appealed to her fans to contribute towards the healthcare system. The actress, who likes to paint when not shooting, announced on Saturday that she will be auctioning some of her artwork and the proceeds will be used to provide money and ration to the needy. “My art is my sane space, my solace. It helps me channelise my thoughts and brings me happiness. I want to use it to bring relief to those for whom the lockdown has been a nightmare,” the actress says.

Sonakshi, who has been sketching and painting while at home, is fascinated by the process. “You start from nothing and end up creating something beautiful. It’s like meditation. I want to use my time productively,” she smiles, adding that most of her work includes pen sketches.

“Three canvas paintings, four sketches and three prints are being auctioned. I want my art to reach out to as many as possible, so that we can collectively make a difference in the lives of those who need it the most,” Sonakshi informs, saying that she is exploring new forms every day, polishing her skills and creating art she is proud of.

I often paint when I’m really tired-Sonakshi Sinha

Actress Sonakshi Sinha on her passion for art and how it could possibly spin off an innovative fashion line some day

Sonakshi Sinha, who was last seen in Abhay Chopra’s one-night thriller, Ittefaq, with Sidharth Malhotra, has always been vocal about her interest in art, admitting that her textbooks in school were full of doodles. She has now taken that passion one step up. “I’ve always been good at sketching, it’s something I’ve been doing since I was a child, but it was only a year-and-a-half ago that I started experimenting with paints and colours. I started with abstract art and moved to faces of women and animals,” says the 30-year-old actress.

She had auctioned one of her paintings last year to raise money for breast cancer patients and will exhibit her work soon even if she is possessive about them. “When I’m painting, I don’t think, the energy just flows through me. It’s like meditation, just the canvas and me,” Sonakshi muses.

She has gifted five of her paintings to family and close friends and admits that everyone wants one, now that her secret is out. “So, I’ve got to keep churning them out,” she laughs, adding that she gets the urge to paint at the strangest of times. “Sometimes it is as soon as I wake up or sometimes in the middle of the night. I often paint when I am really tired and need to forget the day. It refreshes me.”

Given that she was a fashion designer before she became an actor, any plans of putting her art on clothes and starting a unique fashion line? “I think about it all the time, maybe someday I will,” she signs off.
