Shweta Rohira finally opens up about the reasons behind her split with Pulkit Samrat
Shaheen Parkar (MID-DAY; July 13, 2016)
A lot has been said about Pulkit Samrat and Shweta Rohira's separation within a few months of their marriage — from the actor's alleged proximity to his 'Sanam Re' and 'Junooniyat' co-star Yami Gautam to his family being unhappy with Shweta. In a no-holds-barred chat with hitlist, Shweta reveals all.
A lot of dirty linen has been washed in public...
I want all of this to stop. I don't want to be known as Pulkit Samrat's estranged wife, but Shweta Rohira. I was happy that our split did not snatch the limelight from his last film, 'Junooniyat', which released last month. But, he dragged me into this controversy by saying he didn't have time to file a divorce suit. Instead of wasting time talking about being busy, he could have hired a lawyer.
When did you realise that things were amiss?
When he dropped a bomb on my birthday (September 23) last year. It was too sudden. He said he wanted to go his way. I told him to come out in the open and acknowledge that we are separating, but he chose not to.
What went wrong in the marriage?
I asked him this question several times, but never got an answer. He was always evasive and would say, 'I will talk about it later'.
What do you have to say about his alleged proximity to his co-star Yami Gautam?
She used to stay in the same building as my mother in Andheri. Pulkit and I used to spend a lot of time at my mom's place. She used to come over and play with my dog. But for me, she does not exist now. At the same time, I want to thank her for showing me Pulkit's true colours.
Did Yami Gautam break your marriage?
Yes, Yami broke my marriage. I have finally come out of my illusion; so many people cannot lie. Everything was fine between us until one person came in between.
It has been rumoured that you were already married to Pulkit and that the November 2014 wedding in Goa was just a media event where you renewed your vows.
We got married five years ago. Since we were spending a lot of time together, he felt we should get married. It was a proper wedding in Mumbai, but a private affair. There were certain differences with his family, so he wanted me to feel secure. I got to know him when I went to interview him for a website I was writing for. We stayed in touch and spent a lot of time together. It was a fairytale romance.
What issues did his family have with you?
Ours was a love marriage, so they had their usual apprehensions. So did my family. But, then, for the Goa wedding, his entire family was present. If he felt there were differences, why did he agree to get married again?
So, what went wrong?
After our wedding, we went on a family holiday to Coorg. When he was shooting for 'Sanam Re' and 'Junooniyat', I spent a lot of time with his folks in Delhi since he was shooting in the North. His grandmother was keen that I wear chooras (bridal bangles) for a year. I even observed the karva chauth fast in October, although he had told me a month ago that he did not want me in his life anymore. Later, I realised I was leading a pretentious life.
What has Salman Khan advised you about the split?
He is my brother. I would want to keep it at that.
How did you get to know Salman?
I was in class 7 then. One fine day, I landed outside Galaxy Apartments along with a bunch of kids. I told him (Salman) that I wanted to tie a rakhi on his wrist. We just hit it off from there. We are karmically connected. It was later that he realised he knew my father (Sunil Rohira); they used to chill together at Sea Rock Hotel in Bandra. Bhai did my kanyadaan. I do not understand why he is being dragged into this.
Is it true that you underwent a makeover post the split and are keen on acting?
Not at all. I am only interested in writing and painting. I love taking pictures and posting them on Facebook. When I lost my father, I realised that I would not have been able to revisit several memories if I didn't have pictures.
Would you consider a reconciliation?
Why would I want to reconcile with a person who has stooped so low, a person who cannot sit across the table and tell me the reasons?
Yami Gautam always had her eyes on Pulkit Samrat-Shweta Rohira

Shweta, who is separated from her husband, says Pulkit Samrat can never be involved with Ms Gautam
Chaya Unnikrishnan (DNA; January 8, 2016)
In November 2014, actor Pulkit Samrat got married to
his long-time girlfriend Shweta Rohira amid grand celebrations. Shweta’s
rakhi brother Salman Khan was also present at the wedding. However,
last November, the duo separated. While there have been reports of
Pulkit getting close to Yami Gautam, his co-star of two films Junooniyat
and Sanam Re, Shweta firmly believes that the two are not having an
affair.
Is there any chance of a reconciliation between you and Pulkit Samrat?
Pulkit and I haven’t talked to each other about it, so I don’t want to discuss it.
What went wrong between the two of you?
We always loved each other, but eight months after the marriage he said he wanted to separate. The reason he gave me was his family. I didn’t see it coming. I had given him a manual of how to be a perfect son-in-law to my parents and he had given me one about being the perfect daughter-in-law. But I guess there was something wrong with his manual.
There were reports of him being involved with Yami Gautam...
(Cuts in) That is ridiculous. I know my husband and Yami is the last person he would want to be involved with. In fact, he didn’t even want to do films with her — he has acted with better actresses. Eight years ago, he had done a music video with her and at that time he wasn’t even talking to her. Yami always had her eyes on him, but Pulkit never had the hots for her. Even now when he was offered Junooniyat and Sanam Re he did not want to do them. It was I who told him it’s okay to do Junooniyat with her. In Sanam Re, initially, another girl (a friend of mine) was considered, but at the last minute it fell through and Yami came on board. But I had loved the story and had full faith in Divya (Kumar, director), so I insisted that Pulkit do the film. I know that there is nothing going on between them.
Didn’t Pulkit move out of the house to stay with Yami?
No. I moved out of the house to stay with my parents. And Pulkit is the last person to move into anyone’s house as he is pretty well off. Also, why would he, when he has his own house here and in Delhi?
Pulkit has said that he will spend Valentine’s Day with Yami as well as the producer and director of his film...
Exactly. The film is releasing on February 12 and even if were together he would have spent it with them. However, a section of media has picked up only a part of his statement (of spending Valentine’s Day with Yami) and is making a big deal about it.
Have you seen the trailer of Sanam Re?
Yes, and I loved it. Divya has shot it beautifully and Pulkit is looking hot as usual. When Pulkit was offered the film we were talking about getting married. I had heard a song from the film which moved me to tears. That’s when I told him he should do the film as my wedding gift. I have stopped eating sugar for over an year as part of my mannat. Maine mannat maangi hai that Pulkit’s film should do a business of Rs 100 crore. When that happens I will start eating sugar.
Salman Khan is your rakhi brother. Has he talked to you about a reconciliation?
The marriage was between Pulkit and me, why should anyone be in the picture? Bhai has the same emotions that a brother has. My parents and grandparents are there and the topic is discussed, but I personally want to first talk to Pulkit before discussing it with anyone.
You don’t seem to be bitter or cynical..
No. I believe everything is temporary and I am taking one day at a time.

Chaya Unnikrishnan (DNA; January 8, 2016)
Since she has known Pulkit for 10 years, did she see anything like this happening? “No. If it was, it was well-kept away from us. I respect that. He has taken a decision. I am sure he is not such a boy to take a decision at the spur-of-the-moment. However, I would have loved if we had the opportunity to know more about it. He must have gone through something, but he did not let us know. He is my soul son and he can’t just get up and say, ‘Hi, I am walking out with my bags.’ The issue was not discussed. He should have spoken to his wife. I am sure he is also in pain. It’s not possible to just break a love relationship of 10 years where he took time to convince his people and had a fairy tale marriage.”
Pulkit, Kaajal says, never had a fight with Shweta in front of her. “He is an introvert, and the silent type. I am sure given time, he will think about it and speak to his wife,” says the concerned mother. When asked about the reports of him and Yami Gautam getting close, she shrugs it off saying, “He is not that type of a character. I know him very well and he must have had hundreds of opportunities before this. This (Yami) is not the first. There is something you come to know from the behaviour and the body language, and from Pulkit there was never any such indication. A woman, a mother comes to know. My heart doesn’t believe it and I prefer following my heart.”
Are there any chances of a reconciliation? “I take one day at a time and that’s what I have taught my daughter also. Why ruin today’s beautiful memories. I have had the best son-in-law. And the love Shweta and he had, hope God gives them the chance of reunion.”
Right now, Kaajal is excited about his upcoming film Sanam Re. “I am happy that Pulkit has reached where he has — it’s his dream come true. He used to keep saying ‘mom just one romantic film’ and Sanam Re is that. It’s our moment and I won’t let anything ruin it. I just wish him luck,” signs off Kaajal.
BT EXCLUSIVE: Pulkit Samrat-Shweta Rohira separated

Meena Iyer (BOMBAY TIMES; November 22, 2015)
Pulkit Samrat and Shweta
Rohira dated for a long time before they got hitched. She was his steady
date when he was the lead actor of Ekta Kapoor's television soap,
Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, to be precise. She even walked the red
carpet with him when the television saga was dominating Indian
households.
NEXT: Shweta and Pulkit reportedly eloped and secretly wed on May 3, 2010.
FURTHER NEXT: The young couple married with band, baaja, baraat and Salman Khan's presence and support on November 3, 2014, with the blessings of both their families.
Ten months after their big fat Punjabi wedding, rumours of a rift between them surfaced. However, everyone concerned was in denial mode. Earlier this month, there were media reports that suggested the couple was living separately. When asked if it was true that he was living in Delhi with his parents, while his bride was staying with her mother in Mumbai, Pulkit had texted back saying, “Please do wish us on our first anniversary on 3rd November.. :) (sic)“ Well, we did wish the couple a happy anniversary. However, it so hap pens that the couple itself was not celebrating that day. As has been the case in the last few months, the actor was in the capital while his wife was in Mumbai. Though they were spotted a couple of times downing coffee or was that tea, at local coffee shops in Mumbai, they went back to their individual lives and family homes. Reason enough to see the red flag, haan? Yup! In fact, even on his recent trips to Mumbai to complete his film shoots, the actor has been living alone.
A chance meeting with the young Shweta had us asking her point-blank if there was any truth to the grapevine that her marriage had crumbled. She admitted, “My husband and I have been living separately for a while now. He told me that he was separating from me because of his family. To us, families are very important. They are our lifelines. And, since I always believed in giving him whatever he wants, I have reconciled to the fact that he has left me for his family.“ Intrigued by this information, we posed some more questions:
That's strange, weren't you married in front of your families a year ago?
Yes, we were. However, a year later equations seem to have changed.
His family doesn't like you?
That is something they must answer. I'm telling you what my husband has told me.
The rumours doing the rounds suggested that Pulkit was 'good friends' with his co-star of two films, Yami Gautam?
Yami and Pulkit should answer this. I have decided to move on.
You posted a picture online of you performing a Karva Chauth ritual; but your husband was away in Delhi on that day.
Yes, I did the rituals, but he was away in Delhi at that time.
We texted Pulkit for his side of the story and even called him a couple of times. However, he chose to remain unavailable for comment.
