I can’t keep my children away from my fame-Shahid Kapoor

Rishabh Suri (HINDUSTAN TIMES; June 18, 2023)
From growing up in the shadow of his father, actor Pankaj Kapur’s stardom, to parenting his daughter Misha (6) and son Zain (4) amid public gaze, life has come full circle, of sorts, for actor Shahid Kapoor. How does he shield his kids from the attention and scrutiny that accompany his stardom? “I can’t keep them away from my fame,” he explains, adding, “But, they need to have enough of a life and their own individual realities.”
The actor shares that he firmly believes in nurturing a sense of pride within his family. He encourages his children to acknowledge their father’s achievements while also recognising that there is more to their lives than just their “famous parents”.
“We’re all proud of each other in the family,” he shares, highlighting the importance of mutual respect and support. The actor and his wife, Mira, make conscious efforts to normalize their children’s upbringing. Rather than solely focusing on their celebrity status, they encourage Misha and Zain to explore various aspects of life. “Otherwise, children grow up thinking that’s all that matters,” he says.
When it comes to introducing his kids to the actor side of his life, Kapoor has left it to Mira to decide what their kids should watch. “I don’t want them to start perceiving me as something else,” he says, adding that he believes as they grow older, they will naturally develop a deeper understanding of his work.
Despite his reservations, Kapoor recently shared a special moment with his children when they watched his iconic film, Jab We Met (2007) for the first time: “I don’t even know if they recognised me; I looked so different in it.” Ask when he plans on showing them something like a Bloody Daddy and he quips: “Never!”

Shahid Kapoor’s mom Neelima Azim talks about her first grandchild, who was born last week
Upala KBR (DNA; August 29, 2016)
It’s a time of celebration for the Kapoors. A baby
girl was born to Shahid Kapoor and his wife Mira. Along with Shahid’s
father Pankaj Kapur and his wife Supriya Pathak, Shahid’s mother Neelima
Azim and her son Ishaan (Shahid’s brother) too rushed to the hospital
to be with the couple and be part the joyous news.
The young grandmother, Neelima, is thrilled about the birth of her first born’s first born. She tells us, “I have two sons (Shahid and Ishaan) with a difference of 13 years between them. I always wanted a daughter. I can’t begin to express my emotions. When I heard that Mira had delivered a little girl... it was joy multiplied. To see your first-born holding his own little first-born and just seeing him take care of our little angel made me speechless! I can’t express that beautiful feeling... Ishaan is now a chachu! The youngest in our family is now taking care of the little baby... Mira, Shahid, Ishaan and the baby — fill me with indescribable happiness. Though I would have been as happy if Mira and Shahid had a son, as I am used to being surrounded by boys. We say when a daughter is born — ghar mein bacchi aane se huzoor ki salami hui hai... Ab har tare ki barkat milegi (we have been blessed by God. Now peace, happiness and prosperity will reign).”
Neelima says when she went to the hospital to see the baby she felt their family’s golden circle was complete. “Whatever challenges that life throws at you seem little when we see the golden light...
Both my sons are doing well now personally and professionally. Ishaan will make his Bollywood debut soon. Mujhe aur kya chahiye? Bas apni dono bachchoon ki khushi. What else can I ask for? It’s the ultimate for a mother to see their kids happy and doing well. When I walked into the hospital and looked at the baby... To say that I got emotional is a small feeling. It’s a very different feeling — ek ajeeb pride aur khushi hoti hai... As adults, we go through ups and downs, but when you hold a little baby in your arms everything fades away and only a huge feeling of gratitude remains.”
Neelima reveals that she arrived at the hospital a few minutes after the baby was born. “As soon as we heard the news, we bought mithai and rushed there. But there was heavy traffic and rains so we got held up. I became very impatient as I wanted to reach fast so I kept hurrying our driver who was shocked at my behaviour. Usually, I fall asleep in the car and am much more controlled! (laughs) I wanted to give Mira and Shahid some space as a family, so I was just waiting for the call to go there. What is distance? I would have flown to another country to see my grandchild.”
About being a young grandmother, Neelima says,“It’s wonderful. In my family we do everything early. I became an actor and dancer when I was very young and had Shahid when I was just 20. So, I was a young mother as well. It’s great being a young grandmother because then you can play with the child, travel, be actively involved and grow with them and relate better to them.”
She can’t decide who Shahid’s baby looks like, “It’s difficult to say who a one-day-old baby resembles. Uska rang chadega har din, so you really can’t say whom she looks like now. All I will say is that the baby is very beautiful. Bahut pyari hai bachchi. Maa baap bhi itne pyare hain, they are made for each other and the baby is too. My son has got his unit — now he is one boy with two girls, I was one girl with two boys (smiles).”
The name of the little baby has been finalised by Mira and Shahid but Neelima says she can’t disclose her name. “There is a name for the baby but it’s the parents’ prerogative to announce it. The most interesting thing I can add here is that I thought of the same name as Shahid and Mira. Once Mira and the baby are back at home I plan to visit them as often as I can. I miss her already.”

Shahid and Mira welcome their first child who was born on Friday evening
Lata Mishra & Avinash Lohana (MUMBAI MIRROR; August 27, 2016)
Shahid Kapoor and wife Mira Rajput welcomed their first child together, a daughter, born at Hinduja Heathcare Surgical in Khar on Friday at 8 pm. It was a normal delivery and Dr Kiran S Coelho delivered the healthy 2.8 kg Kapoor girl. Mira was rushed to the hospital after she complained of labour pains at around noon earlier in the day.
According to a hospital source, she insisted on a normal delivery and was supported by Shahid who was teary-eyed with excitement when he held his bundle of joy for the first time.
Shahid's parents, Supriya and Pankaj Kapur, also rushed to the hospital around noon while Mira's family joined them later in the day, just in time for the impending arrival.
The new mum and her baby girl will be in the hospital for the next three days.
Mira was a third year English honours student at Delhi's Lady Sri Ram College and had interned with the United Nations. She met Shahid around November-December, 2014 and they tied the knot on July 7, 2015, in Delhi at the Chattarpur bungalow of Malvinder Singh in a Anand Karaj ceremony common with Sikhs.
The reception was hosted the same evening at one of the Capital's fivestar hotels, followed by a bash in Mumbai for his B-town colleagues on July 12.
Shahid has Vishal Bhardwaj's Casabalanca-like love story, Rangoon, gearing up for release in October. The actor was with his wife all through her third trimester. He was in talks for films but didn't want to kickstart any project before the baby came along, wanting to spend some time with his two favourite girls.
"She has arrived and words fall short to express our happiness. Thank you for all your wishes," proud papa Shahid tweeted around 9:50 pm.
