The film was lower than BADRINATH KI DULHANIA in terms of GROSS as HINDI MEDIUM has tax exemptions in many states. The film could now go to 60 crore nett. HINDI MEDIUM and SACHIN: A BILLION DREAMS continued to dominate the box office as far as Hindi films are concerned. HINDI MEDIUM grossed 1.50 crore nett on its third Friday which is the same as first day of Baywatch while SACHIN: A BILLION DREAMS was around 1.25 crore nett.

HINDI MEDIUM is a HIT and is holding up very well at the box office with collections of around 42.50 crore nett after fifteen days. The way the film is going its going to be a photo finish in terms of lifetime business between it and the bigger film HALF GIRLFRIEND which was released on the same day as 55 crore nett is a possibilty for HINDI MEDIUM.

SACHIN: A BILLION DREAMS has dropped around 80% in the second week but for a film which is more or else a documentary to do around 45 crore nett lifetime business in Hindi and over 50 crore nett in all languages is an achievement. The film has grossed around 36.50 crore nett in 8 days in Hindi.

SACHIN: A BILLION DREAMS grossed 35 crore nett in Hindi in week one and a good weekend with collections holding up pretty well over the weekdays. The film has fared best in Mumbai and South. The film had a regional version in these areas with Marathi, Tamil and and Telegu but still the best collections have come in Mumbai, Mysore and Nizam/Andhra. The film is easily the highest grossing documentary ever as it beat the long standing record of CINEMA CINEMA (1979). That film had a distributor share of 33 lakhs across in India which would equate to around 70-75 lakhs nett. The 35 crore nett of SACHIN: A BILLION DREAMS is probably higher than that film in terms of inflation adjusted figures also. The film has fetched a big price for a documentary and recovery will depend on revenue from non theatrical sources like satellite and digital.

HINDI MEDIUM had a very strong second week grossing 17.75 crore nett in week two and taking its lifetime total to 41 crore nett in two weeks. The drop in the second week is 24% which is best trending of the year in terms of second drop mainly as no other small film has done well this year. The film should comfortably cross 50 crore nett now. HALF GIRLFRIEND released alongside HINDI MEDIUM faded in week two with collections of 7 crore nett and two week total of 53 crore nett.

PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: SALAZAR'S REVENGE had a fair week of 21 crore nett and needs to get around 30 crore nett for Average business. Though 30 crore nett will only be same as the last PIRATES film in 2011 PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: ON STRANGER TIDES which had done well in India in 2011 as at that time 30 crore nett was good total for Hollywood releases.

SACHIN: A BILLION DREAMS held pretty well on Monday doing around 50% of day one with business of 3.50-3.75 crore nett approx in Hindi. This film could have dropped badly on Monday due to the film not being in the normal feature film format. The four day total is over 26.50 crore nett and the week will be going to 36 crore nett which is very good.

These are very good numbers for the film and the the production cost of the film is not much being a documentary. But the film has fetched a good price in the market (huge for a documentary probably due to the Sachin Tendulkar factor) from a major multiplex chain which has allowed the producers a handsome table profit. The recovery for the buyers will depend on the revenue of income sources like satellite, overseas etc. These will have to give to over 20 crore for the film to cover. The film looks to be heating for a 35 crore nett week which is very good for a documentary though it may not be able to add much much after the first week as there is a very limited audience for this genre and much of it will be consumed in the first week itself. Its a big weekend for such a film and has basically done its business over the weekend. There is a very limited audience for documentaries in India and this film has probably consumed most of this audience in its first weekend. This may be due to Sachin Tendulkar who is a big icon but eventually there is only a certain amount of people who will watch a film in this narrative. So it will be huge surprise if this film keeps on going like this. The weekend is the sixth highest of the year and just 6.50 crore nett less than a big feature film like KAABIL. SACHIN: A BILLION DREAMS had a good first day of 7 crore nett apprx in Hindi. These collections are excellent for what the film is which is basically a docu drama. No other documentary film has ever opened like this in the history of Hindi cinema.

There was CINEMA CINEMA in 1979 which opened well but that was driven by faces of huge stars like Dharmendra, Hema Malini, Amitabh Bachchan and Zeenat Aman on the posters so the audience came in expecting the regular Hindi film when it was not.

Here it is the Sachin Tendulkar factor which has made the audience come in and this first day number is more than enough for the film as far as economics is concerned and it is just about whether the film actually has some mettle and can sustain which could prove tough at these high levels. The film also released in Marathi, Tamil, Telugu and English which should take the all India business towards 8 crore nett or maybe even a little higher.

PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: SALAZAR'S REVENGE also did pretty well as it grossed around 4.25 crore nett on day one in all languages. The last film PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: ON STRANGER TIDES had grossed 3.25 crore nett on its first day so its a decent 30% improvement on that film. The opening is the third best for Hollywood in India after FAST & FURIOUS 8 and XXX: RETURN OF XANDER CAGE. While on Hollywood, BAYWATCH looks set to be a huge flop in the States and this film will be released in India next week and a lot of PR is being done to build hype in India due to the presence of Priyanka Chopra but the results are likely to be no different.

There were other Hindi releases like SARGOSHIYAN and THODI THODI SI MANMAANIYAN but both could not find an audience.
