The latest is that the final round of talks with Andrrews have fallen through and Ajay has finally decided to let go of the project.
Confirming this, Andrrews told Mirror last evening, "I don't know why Ajay sir was so stuck on Dhir. Kumar Mangat (Ajay's confidante) fixed up my meeting with him and I flew down to Mumbai where I had a cordial meeting with Ajay."
When asked why is he so hell-bent on directing the Hindi remake, he explained. "Look, I want this remake to be my Hindi directorial debut. I am confident about its box office prospects. This is the reason I refused to relent. Moreover, Ajay sir hadn't signed on the dotted line when it came to buying the rights, he was merely in advance talks."
Andrrews added, "Now, I am directing the Tamil remake with Jyothika in the lead. Her husband Surya has bought the rights of all the future remakes. We might also collaborate with a studio on the Hindi remake. Besides Ajay, many filmmakers have shown interest in the project and we are hoping to put the Hindi remake on floors soon. And we shall soon make an official announcement."

After two failed comeback attempts, Kajol got a third chance when hubby Ajay Devgn bought the rights of the 2014 Malayalam hit How Old Are You (Mirror, October 18). The actress who has been on a break since the birth of the couple's son, Yug, in 2010, was to topline the cast of its Hindi remake.
Now, the hitch is that Ajay wants a Bollywood director to helm the project, while the director of the original, Rosshan Andrrews has a clause in the contract with the film's producer Listin Stephen, which gives him the 'first right' to direct its remakes. Andrrews even met Ajay and they discussed this issue before he flew off to Canada last week.
Mirror has it that Ajay wants Ashwni Dhir, who directed Son Of Sardaar for him in 2012, to wield the megaphone. While Devgn remained unavailable for comment, a source close to Andrrews said, "The Hindi version is now in a limbo."
The Southern film revolves around 36-yearold Nirupama (Manju Warrier) who works in the Revenue Department. One day, she gets an opportunity to interact with the President of India but the disastrous outing makes her the target of Facebook trolls. Her husband and daughter then relocate to Ireland, without her. What follows is a journey of self-discovery.
Kajol, who has been planning her comeback for almost a year now, was quite taken by the Malayalam film.
Earlier, she was set to return to the big screen with a film, to be co-produced by husband Ajay Devgn and directed by Let's Talk director Ram Madhvani. Ajay had gone on record to confirm that Kajol will work in the film, an Indian adaptation of the Dutch TV series Penoza.
Prior to that, the actress had considered Rensil D'Silva's 27-episode fiction show (Mirror, December 28, 2013), which revolved around a single mother living in a joint family in Delhi. But the actress demanded too high a premium which the channel wasn't willing to cough up.
