Roohi collects 15.50 cr in Week 1

ROOHI collected a fair 15.50 crore nett over its extended eight day first week with fair holds over the weekdays. The film opened on Mahashivratri and it was the first time since cinemas opened that you had an on the audience. Before ROOHI, the collections on the day had been so limited and most of the business came in advance. The collections did not just move on the day.

The collections are fair considering the situation because if these collections had come in February 2020, then this performance would be poor. At that time you would be expecting the Monday number to go close to the Friday number but at present you cant have those sort of expectations especially as films released since October 2020 have seen big Monday falls.

The weekday numbers are better than they look as many places saw restrictions and night curfews come into play from Monday. The film released on Thursday and at that time restrictions were in Maharashtra and Doab region in Punjab. But by the end of the week, most of Punjab was on night curfew and more cities in Maharashtra and it also spread into Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh.

The first week collections of ROOHI are as follows.
Thursday - 2,75,00,000
Friday - 2,00,00,000
Saturday - 3.10,00,000
Sunday - 3,50,00,000
Monday 1,25,00,000
Tuesday - 1,10,00,000
Wednesday - 1,00,00,000
Thursday - 85,00,000
TOTAL - 15,50,00,000

ROOHI collected 1.10-1.15 crore nett on day six giving it a total of 13.75 crore nett apprx. The drop was around 10-15% from the previous day. The film is showing a normal weekday trend and should land up with a first week total of 15.50 crore nett plus.

Then it will be down to where the second Friday collections land up. There are a couple of new releases but that will not hurt much in terms of screens as there is limited content for screens in areas where Hindi films dominate. There are so many films getting extended runs due to lack of content.

The bigger affect will be the film will have to share the audience with other films and that audience is limited at the moment due to the pandemic. But generally ROOHI has done well to get here and maybe it could also sustain well in the second weekend.

The first six day collections of ROOHI are as follows.
Thursday - 2,75,00,000
Friday - 2,00,00,000
Saturday - 3,10,00,000
Sunday - 3,50,00,000
Monday 1,25,00,000
Tuesday - 1,10,00,000
TOTAL - 13,70,00,000

ROOHI had a fair hold on Monday as it collected 1.25 crore nett dropping 55% from day one and around 40% from Friday. This takes the total business of the film to around 12.50 crore nett and the first week total should be a healthy 15.50 crore nett.

The scenario from October has been big drops over the weekdays and then slight recoveries over the weekend. The business was mainly about the weekends but here the weekday turnout is looking to be better which is a good sign for the longer term.

The performance of the film is weak in places Mumbai and Pune due to extra Covid-19 restrictions. Delhi NCR is in a better position but the places that are really outperforming are Kolkata and Hyderabad. This is probably because there will be lesser Covid-19 fear in these places and business in these places is mainly multiplexes for Hindi films and most of these are open. Also both cities are allowing 100% occupancy which is better for the public mindset in terms of visiting theatres.

The first five day collections of ROOHI are as follows.
Thursday - 2,75,00,000
Friday - 2,00,00,000
Saturday - 3,10,00,000
Sunday - 3,50,00,000
Monday 1,25,00,000
TOTAL - 12,60,00,000

ROOHI has put up a respectable extended weekend total of over 11 crore nett with the film showing a good upturn on Saturday and even Sunday showing better growth than what has gone on since October be it Hindi films or Hollywood films.

The film is not a hit or huge success but you cant have these sort of expectations from a small film in the present conditions. The film has managed to get around 7.5 lakh people to the theatres over four days and you take that for a start and in time this will get better. There are various restrictions and night curfews in many cities across the country which is also hitting business and this is on top of the pandemic issue which has anyway reduced the potential audience.

The weekend theatrical market looks around 35-40% below what we would call normal at present. This is better than a few months back when collections of films like SURAJ PE MANGAL BHARI, TENET and WONDER WOMAN 1984 were 60-70% of the pace. ROOHI has done better than expected till now and hopefully that will continue.

The weekday market is in a far worse condition than weekends with very limited footfalls seen since reopening. The major releases since October have seen big falls on Monday and if ROOHI can be more towards the 50% drop range, it would be a good sign for the weekday business. Anything better than 50% would be a very good result but this would be very hard looking at results since reopening.

There were other Hindi releases like JEENE KI UMMEED TUMSE HI, MERA FAUJI CALLING and TIME TO DANCE but none of these could register any collections with MERA FAUJI CALLING being best with a 5 lakh nett weekend.

The first four day collections of ROOHI are as follows.
Thursday - 2,75,00,000
Friday - 2,00,00,000
Saturday - 3,10,00,000
Sunday - 3,50,00,000
TOTAL - 11,35,00,000

ROOHI scored well on Saturday as it jumped around 55-60% to record collections of 3-3.25 crore nett and it is the first time that a film has collected over 3 crore nett on any single day post Coronavirus pandemic. The Saturday jump reminds of time of how films used to jump on Saturday before Covid-19 and here it is the third day.

The Saturday jump has been more limited since films started released in October 2020 and this is the first time that this sort of jump has come. The film has done well till now recording business of nearly 8 crore nett and has bough a certain number of footfalls to theatres. The jump was driven by bigger multiplexes just like it used to be pre-Covid-19.

There have been two other negatives in the box office scenario till now, one being there has not been Sunday growth with films even dropping on Sunday and secondly the Monday drop has been big. The norm post Covid-19 has been 60% plus drop from Friday rather than the normal 50%. It would be a good sign if ROOHI can also change the scenario here.

The first three day collections of ROOHI are as follows.
Thursday - 2,75,00,000
Friday - 2,00,00,000
Saturday - 3,10,00,000
TOTAL - 7,85,00,000

ROOHI collected a 2 crore nett plus number on Friday coming of the Mahashivratri holiday which is a 25% drop and a healthy trend. The number may go a little above 2 crore nett when the final numbers from Mumbai and Delhi /UP come but 2 crore is there as it got a nice little evening push though not as strong the push on day one.

The two day collections of the film are 4.75 crore nett and there is Saturday and Sunday to come and in a normal scenario you would say its a comfortable 10 crore nett extended weekend. But since cinemas opened in October, the normal trends are not there as many films have seen a Sunday drop.

ROOHI is the closest we have seen to some normalcy at least in terms of an on the day audience which was very limited since October. Hopefully,  the film will see good upward trends over the weekend to get over that 10 crore nett mark. The film continues to be best in Delhi NCR though some of the higher collecting cinemas did see a drop but the jump there should also be better today.

The two day collections of ROOHI are as follows.
Thursday - 2,75,00,000
Friday - 2,00,00,000
TOTAL - 4,75,00,000
