Dil Dhadakne Do girl, Ridhima Sud comes on board Reema Kagti's Mr Chaalu, also featuring Fawad Khan; will be seen in John Abraham's wedding drama too
Sanyukta Iyer (MUMBAI MIRROR; August 20, 2015)
Ridhima Sud remembers getting off a long and tiring flight, after an exhausting 20-hour schedule on a set, to make it in time for Zoya Akhtar's script-reading session of Dil Dhadakne Do. The actress was seen as Noori Sood in the film.
Recalling her first interaction with her director, she says, "Zoya told me that she was my movie mama and she still is! She has always made herself accessible to me. I have a family in Bombay and it's Zoya's," she says, adding that she mumbled a thank you, battering her eyelashes in confusion when Javed Akhtar walked up to her at the DDD premiere, praising her mazedar performance. "He has worked with actresses across five generations and for him to say something nice about my work meant a lot to me," she says.
The actress, who refuses to reveal her age, says that Bollywood's leading ladies can only ever be as old as they look. "I just auditioned for a role of the 16-year-old girl. So I'm as old as they think I am," she guffaws. The actress will next be seen as journalist Meera Sharma in Kajariya, a docu-feature by Madhurima Anand, which addresses several social issues, prominently, female foeticide. "I play a reporter who finds herself chasing a story she is not ready to handle. The movie will tour film festivals in Europe soon," she points out.
Ridhima has also shot portions for Satra Ko Shaadi Hai, a John Abraham production, which also features the actor in the lead. "It's not a love story, but a full-fledged wedding melodrama," she says, adding that she plays Cookie Hirani, a bindaas Bombay kudi, who's been dragged to a particular wedding in Bhopal and mayhem follows. "I am paired opposite Harshvardhan Rane and I never knew he was such a big heartthrob down South. TV star Barun Sobti too is a part of the cast, and I never knew the amount of fan-following he had either. I thought these boys were nobodies," she insists, adding that her only A-list co-star so far has been Ranveer Singh, in DDD.
Ridhima confirms that she has just finished reading the script for Reema Kagti's Mr Chaalu, also featuring Fawad Khan. "Yes! I am very excited about the film and have finished a reading for it," Ridhima told Mirror. The actress had moved to Italy at 17 and went to New York to study liberal arts and films, only to return, hoping to make it big in Bollywood. "You can never predict anything that's going to happen with a film until you're on the set, giving your shot," she smiles.
Introducing Ridhima Sud: Zoya Akhtar's Noorie In Dil Dhadakne Do

She plays out her own Titanic styled love story with
her on-screen beau. It’s a small part in Dil Dhadakne Do (DDD). But
debutante Ridhima Sud, with her bangs and soulful eyes, has got noticed.
The Delhi girl who has a double-major in Political Science and Economics from New York University, can’t believe she is part of this big Bollywood movie with a cast of stalwarts. “I come from a family of flustered Panjus who can’t believe a girl from their clan had an acting plan. My father is a businessman. My mother’s family including my mother, are into academics. Interest in acting is the last thing they expected from me,” says Ridhima who took off to NY for a degree and then got herself a job in Wall Street, “Just so that my family is convinced that I’m capable of living up to their expectations. Then I resigned from the Wall Street job to pursue my dream.”
Landing up in Mumbai to pursue a career in films was not easy. Ridhima has three unreleased films to prove how tough the going can be for a newcomer not connected to the film industry. “I felt so out of place. The films that I did before Dil Dhadkane Do were not Bollywood stuff. One of them, Madhureeta Anand’s Kajariya, may release soon. Or so I hear,” sighs the pretty newcomer.
Ridhima got the role of Noorie after only one audition. “I didn’t have to struggle to get this role. But I couldn’t believe I’d be sharing screen space with all these huge names. It was like being thrown into the deep-end, pun intended,” she smiles.
Luckily for Ridhima everyone on board was cordial and warm. “The film’s co-writer Reema Kagti helped me find my way around. There I was with these heavyweights — all known and famous names. Luckily for me, everybody was very helpful, very nice. Their attitude helped me to relax and enjoy my part.”
She admits to improvising on her part. “I knew what I had to do. But I would do something more to scenes and then run off to a corner hoping nobody would be offended. I was extremely lucky to have a director like Zoya Akhtar, who was open to ideas.”
The reviews have made a mention of Ridhima’s debut. “To be noticed in a film that has so many big names is a blessing. I feel I am privileged. I could have easily been drowned, pun again intended. If I could float freely, it was because there were so many artistes to help and guide me. I’m grateful.”

FARHAN TURNED DJ ON THE SHOOT
Farhan Akhtar played not one or two, but three roles during the making of his sister Zoya Akhtar's Dil Dhadakne Do. Besides being the producer (along with Ritesh Sidhwani) and acting in the film, he also played DJ for the team. The quirky family entertainer was shot aboard a cruiseliner across the Mediterranean Sea. Naturally, the actors bonded big time during the extensive outdoor, and after packing up, they'd get together for dinner and to unwind on Deck 7. That was when Farhan would moonlight as a disc-jockey, keeping the entire cast and crew engaged with the music he played. The filmmaker-actor had carried a pair of portable speakers which had fantastic output and had also taken along a wide collection of tracks - from classics to Bollywood to rock - on his personal music player.
While it started organically, Farhan soon became the in-house DJ, taking song requests from everyone.
Eventually, Deck 7 became the default party place on the cruise.

FOREIGN GIRL WOOED RANVEER IN INDIAN STYLE
It's well known that Ranveer Singh has a huge fan following across the globe. During the shoot in Turkey , the actor experienced fan frenzy. A foreigner who would come on set every day. This particular gori said she had watched all his movies and called herself his biggest fan. One day, she dressed up as an Indian bride and begged with the security to allow her to meet her dream man because she wished to propose to him.
When word reached the actor, he immediately went to meet her. He spent some time talking to her, clicked a few pictures and exchanged email addresses and promised to write to her whenever possible.
ZOYA LAUNCHES RIDHIMA SUD IN DDD
While the multi-starrer family entertainer has an eclectic cast and promises powerpacked performances, it also marks the big screen debut of Ridhima Sud. This newbie, who is the face of several brands, plays an important role in DDD.
ZOYA'S ALARM MALFUNCTIONED
Shooting for DDD was a different kind of experience for the team. Since they were constantly travelling, it often happened that they slept in one place and woke up in another. During one of those days, Zoya had an alarm glitch.
She had set an alarm for 6 am as she had to be on set at 7 am to ensure every thing is in order before the actors arrive.
However, she somehow forgot to account for the change in time zone due to which her alarm didn't ring as she had expected. Zoya was woken up by calls from her ADs, informing her that the actors had reached set. Waking up with a start, she could not put together then why her alarm didn't ring. She got ready in no time and on reaching the set, apologised profusely for the delay. The team had a hearty laugh when they later realised the glitch.

PRIYANKA LEARNT PADDLE TENNIS
The cruise afforded different people different opportunities. Priyanka Chopra, for instance, learnt tennis while shooting for the film. The actress has a scene in which she had to play paddle tennis with Rahul Bose. It is a crucial scene in the narrative. To ensure she looked convincing, PC picked up the racquet and ensured her costar taught her the game. The two got in the real competitive mode and continued playing matches even after they had finished shooting the sequence.
ANIL NEVER MISSED HIS GYM SESSIONS
The DDD team had an absolute blast. Post pack-up, they all got together and partied till the wee hours. However, Anil Kapoor was rarely seen at these parties. While everyone's hot spot was Deck 7 where they partied, Anil's favourite was Deck 11, which also housed the gym and fitness centre. The actor religiously followed his exercise routine. Anil being Anil, also recommended it to Ranveer, Farhan, Anushka and Priyanka. Inspired by his enthusiasm, they would often join him.
SHEFALI MISSED HER CHILDREN ON THE CRUISE
Shefali Shah, who is playing the mother of Priyanka and Ranveer in the film, is also a mother of two kids in real life. While she was shooting aboard the cruise, there was no mobile connectivity, as a result of which, she could not speak to her children for two weeks at a stretch. So when she had a difficult time managing as she missed her kids terribly, her reel children PC and Ranveer would cheer her up.
ANUSHKA SPENT A LOT OF TIME WITH PLUTO DURING THE SHOOT
Anushka Sharma is a diehard pet lover. She has a pet dog named Dude, whom she adores. Since it was a long schedule on the cruise, she missed her pet immensely. But when she found Pluto, the Mehra family's pet, she started spending a lot of time with him. Now that she is back home, Anushka misses Pluto.
Dil Dhadakne Do, presented by Junglee Pictures and Excel Entertainment, releases tomorrow.

Ridhima Sud who debuts with Dil Dhadakne Do bags 3 film deal with John Abraham's banner

Nayandeep Rakshit (DNA; January 21, 2015)
Each year in Bollywood comes along a flurry of newbies
trying to make their presence felt in the industry. 2015 is no
different but there’s certainly one newcomer who’s caught our attention
even before her film releases. The girl we’re taking about is Ridhima
Sud.
She’s the face that Zoya’s launching in DD but the actress has already signed a three film deal with Shoojit Sircar and John Abraham’s co-production. “She is working with A-listers in her first film but her performance will fetch her immense recognition and will get her noticed. She’s already been picked by John’s production house,” assured a source from the sets. And out of the three films,Sud has also finished shooting one, where she plays the lead.
Certainly happy about her progress, an excited Ridhima says, “Yes! I did. I’ve already finished shooting for the first one of the three films. It should be out this year after DDD. Shooting for that film was very different from shooting Zoya’s but it was fun nevertheless.” Ask her if she’s planned her third film already and she smiles back with a reply — “I am reading scripts for the future.”
While Ridhima is en route to stardom, here’s what you need to know about the debutante.
We’ve seen her before!
Now the name might not ring a bell but the face surely does! Being the face of several brands like Kaya and Ponds, Ridhima has already made her presence felt in the ad world. Add to that, a few ad campaigns she shot for Vodafone, Coca Cola, Titan and e-bay to name a few! Remember the pretty faced biker girl in the Ponds Dreamflower ad? You’ve hit the bull’s eye!
Not her maiden attempt!
Ridhima might take her baby steps in B-Town with Zoya’s Dil Dhadakne Do but she’s not a newbie when it comes to films. Prior to DDD, Ridhima has been a part of the production team of the Hollywood film Eat, Pray, Love and has also worked in the Oscar-nominated Ballad Of Rustom. Not just that, she’s also been a part of the Dubai segment of The Owner that holds Guinness Book of World Record for being a film directed by 25 film makers!
Spiderman’s classmate!
Incidentally, Sud took acting lessons from Leonardo Di Caprio’s acting coach Larry Moss and guess who her classmate was — Tobey Maguire!

Ridhima Sud, the new kid on the block, talks about her Bollywood debut in Zoya Akhtar's next, her brush with the Oscars and Spider-Man Tobey Maguire.
Vickey Lalwani (MUMBAI MIRROR; October 28, 2014)
Years as a model, international projects, acting classes from Tobey Maguire and Leonardo DiCaprio's coach Larry Moss, and now a Bollywood debut helmed by Zoya Akhtar--Ridhima Sud looks set for a good start in tinseltown.
The Delhi-born actress, who has been cast in Dil Dhadakne Do (DDD) along with Farhan Akhtar, Priyanka Chopra, Anushka Sharma and Ranveer Singh, started her career in front of the camera years ago with a commercial for a popular brand of skincare clinics. The journey then took a global turn.
"I started modelling while still at New York University. I had done a few advertisements when the casting director for the Ballad Of Rustom called me. I met the film's director, Ajita Suchitra Veera, and signed the project the same day. It was in 'contention' for the Oscars this year in the Best Picture category," says Ridhima.
The actress, who was christened Ritz by a French friend who could not pronounce her name, went on to act in Kajarya, a much talked-about film on crime against women in India.
Then Zoya came calling. "I've been stalking her since I was five. Just kidding!" laughs Ridhima. "She personally took my audition for DDD. I think I said yes even before they offered me the film."
She adds, "Zoya is my favourite director. She knows exactly what she wants and allowed a newbie like me to take creative liberties."
Ridhima is reluctant to talk about her character in the film but she reveals, "I can't say who I am starring opposite but most of my scenes are with Ranveer."
She is equally upbeat about her other co-stars during the "incredible" shoot. "Priyanka and Anil (Kapoor) were particularly encouraging," she says, adding that the Indian cast and crew "were much warmer" than foreign teams.
While in New York, Ridhima was a student of Larry Moss, acting coach to Tobey Maguire and Leonardo DiCaprio. "I was impressed by the fact that a successful actor like Tobey would be in class with newbies in the pursuit of perfecting his acting skills," she says.
Now she has friends in Bollywood. "I'd ideally like to live in multiple cities. I see myself as a child of the world so why make one city my home," she quips.
