Guests to be treated to Chadha’s favourite delicacies from her hometown
Monika Rawal Kukreja (HINDUSTAN TIMES; September 28, 2022)
Actors Richa Chadha and Ali Fazal will kick off their wedding festivities in Delhi tomorrow (September 29). Just before the functions begin, we have exclusively learnt that the bride-to-be has planned a rather thoughtful and lavish spread for the guests. Since Chadha, 35, hails from Delhi, the food served at the mehendi, sangeet and cocktail functions in the Capital would be a mix of her favourite delicacies from across the city.
“There would be the famous chole bhature from Rajouri Garden, Natraj ki chaat, Chatori Gali ka Ram ladoo, and more. All the food stalls will feature her favourite dishes from across Delhi, which she enjoyed while growing up,” a source tells us.
The decor for the two venues — for sangeet and cocktail — will be in nature-inspired shades, mostly green, courtesy Chadha and Fazal’s love for the environment. “There would be a lot of natural colours and the decorative elements would include jute, wood and flowers,” informs the source.
We have also learnt that Chadha would be wearing designer Rahul Mishra’s creation for her sangeet and a KrĂ©sha Bajaj outfit for the cocktail. Fazal, 35, has chosen Abu Jani-Sandeep Khosla and Shantanu & Nikhil (designer duos) ensembles for the Delhi celebrations.
An interesting fact about Chadha’s mehendi ceremony is that it will be held at her friend’s bungalow, where she spent a lot of time as a child. “There’s a lot of nostalgia value attached to the place. The mehendi will take place in the afternoon, followed by a sangeet in the evening. It’s going to be an intimate gathering, with just 60 guests in attendance. There would be performances by her non-industry friends,” the source ends.

Richa Chadha and Ali Fazal’s wedding preps are in full swing. The quirky invites, which reflect the couple’s personalities, have been sent out. Apart from their friends and family, they have also invited Gerard Butler, Judi Dench and a few production members from Ali’s international projects. He has shared screen space with Butler in the Hollywood film Kandahar and had featured with Dench in Victoria & Abdul. A confirmation of their presence at the wedding is awaited. The couple will also participate in dance performances which have been kept as a surprise for each other.
Richa and Ali have opted for an eco-friendly wedding. We have learnt that they have roped in a food curator to ensure food is served in a manner that will ensure it isn’t wasted and is also convenient for the guests to walk around as they eat without lugging around hefty food plates.
A source says, “There will be minimal use of plates, cutlery and non-biodegradable stuff. The food has been curated in such a fashion that it requires minimal to no extra cutlery. They are skipping the typical elaborate buffet, but have a very cool way of serving everything from appetizers to mains to desserts in a pick-and-eat manner. For instance, if it’s rice and gravy, it will be served in a jar for a single portion size so people can pick it up and use a spoon while they hang around. It will be convenient for them as well. The theme at both Mumbai and Delhi celebrations will be sustainable and environmentally friendly. ”
The pre-wedding celebrations will take place at a venue near Delhi from September 29 to October 1. Ali and Richa will tie the knot on October 3 in Mumbai, which will be followed by a reception on October 4.

With excitement building around actors Richa Chadha and Ali Fazal’s impending wedding, which is finally set to take place on October 6 in Mumbai, our sources exclusively inform us that everything being planned is going to be a grand affair. From their outfits to performances to venues for their functions, expect it to be all extravagant.
The couple has teamed up with Delhi-based wedding planners — Tailor Made — who are organising the functions with their teams in both Delhi and Mumbai.
From what we hear, Chadha and Fazal’s sangeet is loaded with unique acts. “Between Ali and Richa’s friends, there are going to be a total of 15 dance performances. Richa and Ali will also perform but they haven’t started rehearsing yet. It’s only after September 24th that they will start planning their acts,” our source tells us.
For their key functions, the couple will “wear a mix of Indian and international designer labels”. The source adds, “There’s no one particular designer doing their outfits but five different designers — three Indian and two international — are designing outfits for different occasions.”

A few days ago we had revealed details about the big Bollywood wedding that’s all set to happen at the end of the month. Now we have it that Richa Chadha and Ali Fazal are all set to tie the knot on October 6 followed by a reception on October 7 in Mumbai.
Prior to that, pre-wedding ceremonies will commence on September 29 and go on till October 2 at a spot near Delhi. The elaborate wedding will have four well-known fashion designers who will be putting together Richa’s outfits for the various ceremonies.
While the wedding will be a close-knit affair with just the couple’s immediate family and close friends in attendance, the reception will have their friends from the film industry joining in the celebrations.
Richa is currently shooting for Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Heeramandi in Film City, Mumbai while Ali is busy with Mirzapur 3 in Varanasi. The couple will wrap up their shoots by mid-September, after which they will fully dive into their wedding preparations.
BT Exclusive: Ali Fazal, Richa Chadha to tie the knot in Mumbai after a royal pre-wedding celebration near Delhi

Putting the speculations to rest, it can now be confirmed that Ali Fazal and Richa Chadha will get married in Mumbai in the first week of October in a two-day ceremony — an intimate wedding followed by a grand reception. Both functions will happen at a south Mumbai hotel. While the wedding will be a close-knit affair with just the couple’s immediate family and close friends in attendance, the reception will have their friends from the film industry joining in the celebrations.
The pre-wedding festivities will begin at a venue near Delhi at the end of September and continue for three days. There will be a three-day gap between the Delhi and Mumbai events so that the family can take a breather.
Interestingly, the couple has chosen a royal heritage fort property near the Delhi-Jaipur highway, a three-hour drive from the capital, for their pre-wedding events. The heritage palace will host the couple, their families and extended families from Delhi, Lucknow and the ones settled abroad. Ali’s grandmother will fly down from Canada to attend the Delhi and Mumbai ceremonies. The celebration at the heritage property will include sangeet and mehendi ceremonies as well as a cocktail party.
After three days, the action will move to Mumbai, where the couple will tie the knot in an intimate ceremony, followed by a grand reception with around 400 guests. A quirky ‘save the date’ invite has already been sent out. While Richa is currently shooting for Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Heeramandi in Film City, Mumbai, Ali is busy with Mirzapur 3 in Varanasi. They are slated to wrap up their work by mid-September, after which they will dive deep into their wedding preparations.
Ali and Richa, who have been in a relationship for many years, were to get married in April 2020, but their plan went awry due to the pandemic. They initially felt that if the situation improved, they could tie the knot by the end of 2020. However, in a tragic turn of events, Ali’s mother passed away on June 17, 2020, in Lucknow. Given the circumstances, the couple decided to move the wedding ahead until things seemed better logistically, also adhering to the health and safety factor.
In a previous chat, when their wedding was postponed, Richa had told Bombay Times, “We would not like to endanger anyone due to our celebration. It is only wise to wait. This was inevitable. There’s nothing we could do to control this, so we took a sensible decision.”
Ali had said, “Of course, it is disheartening because we were all geared up, and preparations were in full swing, but it is fine. The idea is to celebrate our special day with people close to us — our friends and family. Once things settle down and when the time is right, hopefully, we will come back, and everyone will celebrate with us.”
It looks like the new, post-pandemic world is ready to celebrate another big Bollywood shaadi.

All the dope on Richa-Ali’s upcoming nuptials as couple shortlists heritage properties for week-long celebrations, set to promote local designers with their trousseau
Mohar Basu (MID-DAY; September 6, 2022)
Originally, a 2020 summer wedding was on the cards. That was not to be due to the lockdown. Now, after two years of pandemic and three rounds of delays, it’s finally time for Richa Chadha and Ali Fazal to tie the knot. A hush-hush shaadi isn’t their style; the couple are setting the stage for a big, fat wedding in Delhi, with the pre-wedding festivities kicking off on September 27.
“Ali’s grandmother and cousins will fly in from Canada next week to join in the festivities. It will be a week-long affair, starting with mehendi, sangeet and cocktail, leading up to the wedding. The actor duo will also host a grand reception in the capital for their family and friends. They are expecting a turnout of about 200 guests,” reveals a source.
Soon after, they will fly down to Mumbai for their next round of revelry with their industry friends. The source adds, “The plan was always to have two receptions. The Mumbai do will witness close to 450 guests, including their actor and filmmaker friends.”
The bride-to-be was keen that all functions, including their D-Day, have an old-world charm to them. Keeping the theme in mind, the couple have skipped five-star hotels, instead looking at beautiful heritage properties. “Ali and Richa have personally shortlisted five heritage properties in Mumbai and Delhi — one of them in south Mumbai — after extensive recces over the past two months. They will zero in on the final venues this weekend. The wedding will have a retro theme. They will also hire an external security agency to avoid instances of trespassing by the paparazzi. Guests will be screened for Coronavirus at the entrance, thus ensuring everyone’s safety.”
While the couple will have their final trousseau fittings this week, it is heard that they will wear outfits by local designers, particularly Lucknowi artisans, thus promoting their craft.
With Chadha shooting for Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Heeramandi and Fazal busy with Mirzapur 3, the duo may have to forgo their honeymoon for now. “They will only take a two-week break for the prep and the functions. After the Mumbai reception, they will take the weekend off before reporting back to work.”
Traditional wedding, quirky sangeet planned for Richa Chadha, Ali Fazal

Actors Richa Chadha and Ali Fazal are finally ready to tie the knot after the delays caused by the pandemic-led lockdown. While several reports have suggested that the wedding is to take place towards the end of this month, we have learnt that both of them have freed up their calendars from September 25 to first week of October.
“Ali and Richa will wrap up all pending shoots by September 25. Their respective teams have been informed not to take any more commitments after that,” a source tells us.
While we await more deets on the wedding festivities, we can tell you that there are going to be five key functions. “There’s a sangeet, a wedding ceremony with traditional rituals, which would be more of an intimate family affair, and three receptions — one smaller one with the family in Mumbai, one bigger party for industry friends and one in Delhi, as Richa’s extended family is there,” reveals the source.
Unlike many celebs who have opted for destination weddings, Fazal and Chadha have not planned anything such, and would host all their main functions in Mumbai only, and one in Delhi.
For the sangeet, there will be some special performances, and the couple is still talking to people. “They will do thoda sa different and quirky things, not what you typically see at Bollywood celebrity sangeet functions. That’s who Richa and Ali are,” the source informs.
We’ve also learnt that while they have sent out ‘block the date’ invites to some of their closest friends and industry people, Fazal and Chadha are yet to finalise the exact guest list. And they are going to do that all by themselves!

Actors Richa Chadha and Ali Fazal were set to tie the knot in April 2020 but their plans had to be put on hold due to the pandemic. After recent reports that they have chosen March 2022 for their wedding, with only family and close friends in attendance and functions in Delhi and Mumbai, we reached out to Fazal for details.
“We’ve been dying to do this (get married). Earlier, there was the lockdown, then the second wave… hence, the delay. Moreover, when things opened up, both of us had to wrap up pending shoots, so there was no time,” Fazal says.
The actor, who is shooting in Saudi Arabia for the Hollywood project Kandahar, will be there till January end. Pointing out that he’s often asked about his wedding date, he adds, “As for March 2022... maybe. But right now, I’m clueless. We’re trying to make it work.”
The couple met on the sets of their film Fukrey (2013), and in December 2019, Fazal proposed to Chadha on her birthday while on vacation in the Maldives.

After their April 2020 shaadi was deferred due to pandemic, sources say Richa-Ali to tie the knot in March 2022

A romantic proposal in the Maldives later, Ali Fazal and Richa Chadha were ready to walk down the aisle in April 2020. But the pandemic played spoilsport, compelling the lovebirds to postpone the nuptials. Now, it is heard that the actor duo have decided to tie the knot in March 2022.
A source reveals, “The wedding will be a two-city affair — in Mumbai and Delhi. However, they will keep it intimate with only family and close friends in attendance. At the moment, the actors are looking at various venues in the cities and will zero in on the locations soon.”
A March wedding sounded perfect for the couple who have projects lined up starting April. “Ali is working on a few Hollywood projects. So, they worked out their dates and settled on a summer wedding,” adds the source.
Fazal and Chadha first met on the set of Fukrey in 2012, marking the beginning of a beautiful friendship that soon blossomed into love. Earlier this year, they rolled out their production house, Pushing Buttons Studios to back new talent and brave stories.

Richa Chadha on moving into a new apartment with beau Ali Fazal and why three-city wedding plan still stands
Ankita Chaurasia (MUMBAI MIRROR; November 23, 2020)
The year 2020 was supposed to be a new beginning for Richa Chadha and Ali Fazal who had planned to tie the knot in April. But even the bestlaid plans can go awry. The wedding was pushed and the lovebirds confined to their own homes in the wake of the pandemic-caused lockdown. After eight months, in early November, the couple flew to Egypt to attend a film festival and while the trip was fun, the journey back home was chaotic. “It took a lot longer because some European countries were going under a second lockdown leading to flight cancellations,” says Richa. Their flight too was cancelled last minute, leaving them with a 12-hour layover in Cairo. The pyramids beckoned and they did some sightseeing.
Immediately after they returned, Richa moved into a new apartment with her beau. The move was long overdue. “The lease on my previous apartment had expired in March but the lockdown postponed the shift,” she reasons, saying that they started house-hunting in August. “We wanted peace and this place which is close to the sea, is in a neighbourhood full of retired people. Unlike Bandra and Andheri, which are crawling with paparazzi, it is more secluded and affords some privacy. I don’t have to dress up to go to the gym, or to run errands.”
It’s a rented pad because they don’t want to buy a house in this depressed market. “We will stay here for a few years now,” the actress adds, pointing out that they are still living out of boxes. “There was a water-leakage issue when we moved in, and for two days we didn’t have water or a Wi-Fi connection. I have a script reading, Ali is off on a shoot, the plumber is working, and the gardener is here. It’s all happening at once with my brother helping us settle in.”
During their tour of Egypt, the actress had marvelled over how her beloved could go from lonely-planet type travel to the lap of luxury in seconds. Ask her how he is as a flatmate and she chuckles, “He is fun, and unlike most boys, likes to help around. He chose the curtains without fuss; luckily, our aesthetics match for the most part. It’s good to finally be able to take decisions together, right from what soap to buy to which maid to hire. Ali is a better cook, specially when it comes to continental cuisine. When we went grocery shopping, his bag was bigger than mine. I enjoy organic farming and here we have a space to grow a kitchen garden of our own, which he is helping me with.”
But not everyone approves of the move. Richa’s cats, Kamli and Jugni, haven’t yet warmed up to their new surroundings though there’s a lot more space for them to play. “Also, Ali is not used to pets and one of them is scared of him. Even he is adjusting to them,” she shares.
With one major milestone achieved, have they set a new wedding date? “How does one set a date when the number of cases is spiking every day? Till there’s a vaccine, there’s no use zeroing on a date,” she reasons, adding that though smaller weddings are happening, she comes from a large Punjabi family and wants to ensure all their guests can make it. “We had planned it as a three-city affair so everyone could attend. Ali’s grandparents are old and to make them travel would be unfair. Now, there’s even more reason to minimise travel, so there’s no reason why the plan should change,” she signs off.
Ali Fazal didn’t need to jump to my rescue. I was capable of handling it-Richa Chadha

The actress says that her fiancĂ© Ali Fazal was supportive of her during her recent legal battle with actress Payal Ghosh though he wasn’t vocal about it on social media
Renuka Vyavahare (BOMBAY TIMES; November 1, 2020)
Richa Chadha, who is always known to speak her mind and stand up firmly for what she believes in, recently took the legal route when actress Payal Ghosh made defamatory remarks against her while making sexual harassment allegations against filmmaker Anurag Kashyap. Later, Payal rendered an unconditional apology to Richa after the latter filed a defamation suit against her before the Bombay High Court. Amidst the controversy and heated conversation that unfolded on social media, one didn’t see Richa’s fiancĂ©, actor Ali Fazal, jump into the fray to voice his opinion in her defence.
When asked about it, Richa says, “Ali and I barely spoke about the case, but I kept him updated. He was marked on several of my emails. We are in a lovely relationship, and we give each other space. There’s mutual respect, and of course, love and companionship. He didn’t need to jump to my rescue. I am capable of handling it on my own and I also had a sound legal team. Through this legal fight, and otherwise, he has always been supportive and been there for me. His support is a given.”
The couple had planned to tie the knot in April, but had postponed their wedding to the end of this year due to the pandemic. They had thought that if the Coronavirus situation improved, the wedding could take place by the end of 2020. However, they have called off their wedding plans this year and are now likely to get married next year.

Ankita Chaurasia (MUMBAI MIRROR; August 4, 2020)
The best-laid plans of mice and men often go awry, Ali Fazal and Richa Chadha would agree. The couple was all set to tie the knot in April this year, but had to postpone their wedding indefinitely in the wake of the Coronavirus pandemic and the resulting lockdown. While it was being speculated that the ceremony will take place towards the end of the year, Mirror has learnt that the duo has decided to get married only in 2021 now.
Admitting that the current year has played spoilsport in more ways than one, Richa reasons that the pandemic is far from done and the vaccine is still nowhere in sight. “So, it is only pragmatic to push the wedding to the coming year in the interest of everyone who would wish to attend,” she says.
In an interview with Mirror (May 25), the bride-to-be had revealed how her boyfriend of five years and she had organised everything themselves, and the festivities were spread across three cities—Lucknow, Delhi, and Mumbai. The invites had yet to be sent out, but everything else had been finalised and had to be cancelled.
The groom agrees that the year is jinxed and everything has turned topsy-turvy. “Let’s see when we are able to accept the new normal, then, we will decide on a date, maybe early next year,” says Ali. Will they stick to the three-city party plans? “We came up with that plan only so our relatives wouldn’t have to travel. We wanted to tackle each side in their own city,” he chuckles.
He has another plan in place in keeping with social distancing norms. “We can book several large and open fields, each far away from the other, and rent out a local train so we can drop by as bride and groom at the different venues, enjoying the food at every place,” he laughs, adding, on a more serious note, “Jokes apart, I hope things get better real soon”.

With their wedding stalled, Richa and Ali making do with video calls
Ankita Chaurasia (MUMBAI MIRROR; May 25, 2020)
A week ago, Richa Chadha had shared a throwback post with actor-boyfriend Ali Fazal, writing, “Long time no see”. The duo, who have been dating for five years, haven’t seen each other for over two months despite being in the same city. “We could have asked for permission from our respective housing societies, but it would have been a risk. So, we avoided meeting,” informs Richa. If the pandemic and ensuing countrywide lockdown had not played spoilsport, Richa and Ali would have been married by now, with festivities spread across three cities—Lucknow, Delhi and Mumbai—in April. “Ali and I were organising everything ourselves. The invites were yet to be sent out, but we had finalised other things, which had to be cancelled,” she sighs, saying, for now, it’s a waiting game. “I was called an anti-national on Twitter for asking when the lockdown would end. Now, we will take a call only when normalcy returns.”
However, unlike other lovelorn couples, Richa and Ali were used to video calls before the Coronavirus lockdown, thanks to long outdoor schedules. “We are used to the distance by now. Besides, I love being alone,” points out the actress, who currently has her brother for company. “He came in just before the lockdown was imposed and it’s a good thing, as otherwise I’d have been too lazy to cook for myself,” she chuckles, boasting that after all the time spent in the kitchen, she has finally perfected the masala dosa, sambar and coconut chutney spread.
Richa admits she was quite disturbed initially when the lockdown started. Workouts and meditation helped calm her down. “Every time I watched the news, I’d get anxious about the plight of the poor and so started doing charity. I just want to help in any way I can,” she asserts.
The actress, who is currently reading How to Start a Revolution based on the Serbian democracy movement, warns of the consequences of neglecting the poor in dire times. “If the upper and middle class think they will skirt around the crisis, they are in for a shock. Not paying those who have helped them all their lives and letting go of them in their time of need, is going to come back to bite them,” she prophesises.
Towards the end of last year, Richa made a trip to Kazakhstan to learn belly-dancing from world renowned dancer April Rose, who lauded her moves in a practice video she posted recently. Ask her if she’s learning the dance form for a film and she shoots back, “None of my films have the scope for dance. I’d kill it in a dance film, but no one offers me one. I would even do an item song where I wouldn’t be the item.”
Ali Fazal turns writer with slice of life story

Actor working on his first script, a period film; is looking forward to marrying Richa Chadha post lockdown
Hiren Kotwani (MUMBAI MIRROR; May 16, 2020)
The nationwide lockdown, announced on March 24 in the wake of the Coronavirus pandemic, has thrown life out of gear. While adhering strictly to social distancing norms and staying indoors to help prevent the spread, several B-Townies are exploring different facets of their personalities and uncovering new talents, like cooking and creating music videos.Ali Fazal, who has been home since early March, has taken to the written word by starting work on his first script. A source close to the actor tells us that Ali, who returned from the UK after a four-month shoot of his international project, Death On The Nile, also featuring Wonder Woman Gal Gadot and Armie Hammer, has been dabbling in writing for months now. “Fiction writing is an entirely new ballgame for Ali. He has been reading books on screenwriting to ensure that he follows the rules of writing,” informs the source, adding that the story is close to his heart, which is why he is so excited about it. He has already worked out the plot points and has started fleshing out the scenes.
When contacted, Ali confirmed the same, saying writing is an entirely new experience for him. He explains, “The first few days of lockdown were difficult because, like everyone else, I was trying to make sense of the new normal. That’s when I realised the value of art and cinema and started working on an idea. It’s a period film, with a bittersweet quality to it, a slice-of-life story which cherishes life. At a time like this, it’s necessary to look at life from a fresh perspective and I hope I am able to do that with this film. It’s a work in progress, let’s see how it turns out.”
Ask him why he is going back to the past for his debut venture and he reasons, “Perhaps, I don’t find too many exciting things to talk about these days. It’s a weird time, I’m sure many will talk about this time in the future. So, I’ll let that be.”
When an actor forays into writing, filmmaking can’t be far behind. But Ali says that he has no plans for filmmaking, “not yet” anyway. But he is quick to add that over time, he has come to understand that the real puppeteer is the director, it’s with him that the real power lies; it is with him, where the story-telling begins after the writer. “We are all part of this story-telling. I have just begun writing something; it is going to take time. I am still getting my head around it. So, direction has to wait. Pehle achcha actor toh ban jaun,” he smiles.
Had the coronavirus not become a global pandemic, Ali and Richa Chadha would have become husband and wife by now. Mirror (February 13) had broken the story that the actors, who first met on the sets of Fukrey (2013) and have been in a relationship for over five years now, were all set to tie the knot. The wedding was initially planned for June, and was advanced to April due to the couple’s prior work commitments. The pandemic has thwarted all their carefully laid plans, forcing them now to defer the wedding to October.
Ask Ali if they have a new date in mind and he says shortly, “It has been delayed until further notice. I think we will celebrate with the world when everything is open again. We have something to celebrate... some good news hopefully, that everyone will get and we’ll make sure to bring that along with our wedding. Until then, we’re following all the rules of the lockdown and awaiting the next steps.”
Postponing our wedding was a bit disheartening, but it will happen when the time is right-Ali Fazal

Renuka Vyavahare (BOMBAY TIMES; May 15, 2020)
Ali Fazal and Richa Chadha were to tie the knot in April this year. However, they had to push their wedding to the end of the year, due to the Coronavirus outbreak and the lockdown. Ali, for the first time, opens up about his wedding and life in the lockdown. He says, “We were supposed to get married, but it has been pushed. Of course, it is a bit disheartening because we were all geared up, and preparations were on in full swing. But it’s fine. We didn’t want to make a big noise about our wedding. It is just the next step forward in our lives. The idea is to celebrate our special day with people close to us, our friends and family. Once things settle down and when the time is right, hopefully, we will come back and the new world will celebrate with us. I don’t know what kind of wedding celebration it will be now, given the new norms, but let’s see.”
Talking about the lockdown, Ali shares, “For me, the biggest lesson learnt during this crisis is not to take your life, people in it, nature or any of it — be it a morsel on your plate or your biggest achievement — for granted. It’s all yours, till you are alive. And you need to love yourself.”
The actor also believes that this phase has made everyone more independent and equal. He explains, “It has made a lot of us self-reliant. I was used to the boarding school culture in my early years. Those years made me self-sufficient, and that helped. Cooking and cleaning should not be limited to a certain gender. I also hope that to a certain extent, the lockdown has wiped out the misogyny and patriarchy in our male-dominant value system.”
He adds, “We have a common invisible enemy, so we must join hands to fight it, as long as we follow the social distancing norms, and fall in line. The only way to judge how close we have become through this ongoing crisis is by seeing how we behave when we enter the new world. We will be wearing masks, and won’t be able to relate to each other the way we did before, as we won’t see each other’s expressions or smiles anymore. This phase has brought us closer, but it has also distanced us. Humanity should fight this big fight together.”
Sabki life postpone ho gayi hai, says Ali Fazal on wedding with Richa Chadha

Radhika Bhirani (HINDUSTAN TIMES; April 13, 2020)
When in 2019, Ali Fazal shot for a film in which he was in a voluntary house arrest, little did he know he’d soon be caught in a similar situation — but involuntarily. “That was a posh, voluntary house arrest. It was a very convenient, nice, big house, because we wanted a shooting- friendly ‘manchaahi’ location. But I think everything changes the moment it is involuntary.”
Recently, when Fazal returned from USA, following four months of shooting, he was not just geared for new projects, but also prepping for his wedding to actor Richa Chadha, which in the current Coronavirus scenario, stands postponed. Ask him about it, and he says, “Sabki life postpone ho gayi hai, shaadi toh... let’s see what comes out of this in the new world. I hope we come out as better people with a better system and better climate. I think there’s a major churning happening everywhere. It’s definitely a time to reflect.”
Admitting that he’s “missing” seeing Chadha, for whom he has been penning poetic mush online, Fazal, 33, says they’re happy “being responsible by following the rules”. Fazal is spending this time by cooking, cleaning and reading.

Things have gone topsy-turvy for everyone amid the corona crisis. But safety comes first. Given the situation, Ali Fazal and Richa Chadha who were to tie the knot in April in Mumbai, have now decided to push their wedding to October.
We reached out to the couple and their official spokesperson confirming the news, said, “Given the current scenario and unfortunate turn of events owing to the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) pandemic, Ali Fazal and Richa Chadha have decided to postpone their wedding functions to the latter half of 2020, tentatively. They wish for everyone to be healthy and safe and at no cost would they want their friends, families and well-wishers to be affected.”
“It’s not safe to venture out at this time and we don’t know how long this will go on for. Ali’s extended family is based in Canada and owing to travel restrictions they cannot be here in April. The couple is also expecting industry friends from the UK and US, who also won’t be able to be here in April. So, October seems feasible for now. Everything else remains the same including the venue, outfits planned and teams involved,” revealed a friend.

Mohar Basu (MID-DAY; March 18, 2020)
The year began with the promise of two big, fat Indian weddings in Tinsel town — rumours were rife that Varun Dhawan and longtime girlfriend Natasha Dalal were set to exchange vows this summer while Richa Chadha and Ali Fazal's four-year romance would get its happily-ever-after with an April wedding. However, with the Coronavirus outbreak in the country, it may be a while before either couple walks down the aisle.
A source reveals that in light of the recent developments, the Dhawans have shifted their wedding dates to the second half of the year. "The initial plan was to have an intimate wedding on a private island in Thailand, but it was scrapped last month in favour of a destination wedding in Jodhpur. Eventually, they called that off too and were considering having a low-key ceremony in Mumbai. But looking at the current scenario, they have decided to tentatively push the shaadi to November and have reverted to their original choice of destination — Thailand."
Chadha and Fazal too may postpone their round of band, baaja, baaraat. "Many of their guests were to fly in from the US and Europe for the do. Also, the couple was hoping to have their nuptials in Delhi, which is currently on a partial lockdown. So, they think it's best to delay the wedding to later this year," says a source close to the couple.

As buzz around Richa Chadha and Ali Fazal's April wedding gathers steam, mid-day has procured the first official proof of the couple's impending wedding. The two have applied for a marriage registration at the Bandra Family Court, a copy of which is in our possession. A source informs, "The duo submitted their application on February 15, 2020. So, as per the marriage registration rules, the wedding can take place any day post March 15. Considering Ali and Richa have shoots lined up, they hope to wrap up their commitments by March 31, and dedicate April to their wedding functions. The preparations are on in full swing. Their shaadi will take place mid-April, followed by the court wedding in Mumbai."
When mid-day reached out to Chadha and Ali, the actors' official spokesperson said, "Currently, only the date for the registration has been taken. As per process, a three-month window is valid [for the wedding to take place] from the date that has been allotted. The couple is working towards an official registration in the last week of April, post which the celebrations will follow. All we can say is that it's a happy occasion, and all the parties involved are elated."

You will not see this couple indulging in too much PDA or featuring regularly on each other’s Instagram posts, but that hasn’t kept our attention away from Ali Fazal and Richa Chadha. Putting speculation to rest, our sources have confirmed that the couple will tie the knot in the third week of April. We hear it was a romantic proposal. Ali proposed to Richa in the Maldives a few months back, and it was an instant “yes” from his lady love. The wedding dates will be locked in the next few days, and April 15 is one of the options for the big day.
A source revealed, “The question was never ‘would they’ but ‘when would they’ get married? The two first met on the set of Fukrey in 2012 and have been friends ever since. They started dating in 2015, made their relationship public in 2017 and now, they are all set to take the big leap. The wedding will happen in Delhi among close family and friends. The festivities will go on for two days. There will also be a party for their Bollywood friends in Mumbai after that.”
Apparently, the couple has opted for an unconventional venue for their shaadi festivities. “Ali and Richa are going to go quirky with their wedding, owing to their personalities. The duo is working round the clock with their teams for interesting, unconventional venues and celebration ideas. The party in Mumbai will most likely be at a venue by the sea or in an experiential venue, something like a performing centre, which is a break from the usual venues.”
While the two have been vocal about their relationship, the wedding news has been kept under wraps. Speaking of Ali, Richa had told us, “Ali is extremely supportive, and I couldn’t have asked for a better man in my life. It’s rare to find like-minded people who share their core values and have similar interests.” Talking about their marriage plans, Ali had told us, “I believe in the sanctity of marriage. I think it’s beautiful. Somewhere, we all stumble upon it, I guess.”
