Rasha Thadani and Ranbirvardhan Thadani are like any sibling duo, fighting and teasing, but also being there for each other, no matter what. On Raksha Bandhan today, Rasha Thadani opens up on their bond while Ranbir, in his first ever interview, talks about how his sister has been his protector.
“Earlier Raksha Bandhan used to be a means of getting together with family and celebrating, but now I understand the true meaning of it. It’s about knowing we both would always be there for each other and protect one another, especially after him having moved to London for studies,” Rasha says, adding that their mother, actor Raveena Tandon also made it clear from very early on: “She told Ranbir when she isn’t around, I am his sister-mumma”.
Ranbirvardhan adds, “Rasha has always been concerned and worried about me. She always tries to take care of me and solve all my problems. She is very protective of me,” he shares that now on Rakhi, he has started even touching Rasha’s feet just to tease her. “It’s a big part of the Indian culture but I do it as a bit of a joke, showing that she is growing so old,” he laughs.
With Ranbirvardhan having moved to London for studies, Rasha, 20, is proud of her 18-year-old younger brother’s independence. “I’m proud of him, no matter what he does. The fact that he’s even there studying abroad alone with us not being there with him every day, I don’t think I would be able to do that. I always need emotional support and some sort of familial connection with me. But he’s so independent and really strong,” she says.
The actor also asserts that her brother doesn’t like to show it, but he gets very emotional every time he leaves home or returns to it. But being a doting brother, Ranbirvardhan opens up saying, “I just miss having someone who I can go and sit with, and just talk about the little things without any consequences. I miss my sister.”
Having grown up in the limelight due to their mum’s stardom, Rasha and Ranbirvardhan were each other’s support through it all. But Rasha credits it to their mum as well. “Mom did a really good job protecting us from everything that comes with the limelight. We’ve not had that much exposure, as children, to the highs and lows of it. We got lucky that the school Ranbir and I went to, I see kids getting papped there. But when we were there, we didn’t have any of that. We were very lucky to live a life where not everyone was like, ‘oh you are your celeb mom’s children’,” she says.
For Ranbirvardhan, it made it easier to handle her sister’s fandom too: “I’m already a little used to having someone in my family with a fan following because of my mum, so I find it with Rasha also completely normal. I see her as my sister and nothing else. But when people come and talk to me about her, I do understand how big her fan following is and I do appreciate it.”
This Raksha Bandhan, Ranbirvardhan is home for his summer break, and Rasha is excited to have her brother home for the rituals. Ask Ranbirvardhan what gift he plans to give his sister and he shares, “I would have to sit and figure out what she actually wants. I think her favourite gift would be just another dog to add to the existing seven that we already have.”
Alia Bhatt, Deepika Padukone are two different personalities, that’s the beauty of it-Rasha Thadani

Rasha Thadani entered showbiz this year with Azaad, and is currently working on her second film, Laikey Laikaa. Daughter of actor Raveena Tandon, the 20-year-old is no stranger to the movies. Still, Rasha admits that experiencing it all firsthand as an actor has helped the mother-daughter duo explore a different facet of their relationship. “There is more professional relatability between us now. Mum is seeing me go through everything that she went through. She feels really happy that I look to her for guidance,” Rasha says.
She adds that her mother wants her to learn things on her own: “Mum knows everything, but she lets me be and do what I think. She wants me to make mistakes and learn from them. She’ll never tell me what to do — she always suggests what she feels, and at the end of the day, she tells me, ‘You do you’. I love her approach. I’m sure I’ve made some mistakes already, and I’m sure I’ll make a lot more as well. But it’s all a learning process.”
Despite her lineage, Rasha is clear that she wants to forge an identity of her own, and she believes doing so helps her connect more authentically with her audience. “Nobody wants to see the same person again and again. It’s very easy to get swayed and start becoming like someone else or picking up things from other people, but I put an effort into just being me and working on myself. As a performer and actor, it’s important to have your own style and your own way of doing things. It’s just about being you,” she says.
Rasha feels that individuality is key to making a mark in the industry. “Nobody is the same. (Actors) Alia Bhatt and Deepika Padukone are great performers, but they are two different personalities, and that’s the beauty of it. I feel that as an actor, you get to be the best version of yourself,” she ends.

In her first-ever interview, Rasha Thadani, daughter of actor Raveena Tandon, talks about her passion for wildlife photography and her big-screen debut

She is yet to debut as an actor, but looks like star kid Rasha Thadani has quite a fan following already, thanks to her photography skills. On World Photography Day today, Rasha says it is her mother, actor Raveena Tandon (48), who inspired her to take up wildlife photography.
“I was eight when she took us for our first tiger safari to Ranthambore (Rajasthan). I would watch her use the camera and get so excited to see the final shots. I’d use her phone camera, which was obviously easier to operate, but it was a start,” says the 18-year-old, who came fourth at the Jaipur Tiger Photography Festival 2022.
She was bitten by the “photography keeda” when she visited the Bandhavgarh National Park (Madhya Pradesh) in 2021 and took her first wildlife shot. “It has grown ever since,” says Rasha, who looks up to wildlife photographers Varun Aditya, Shaaz Jung and Sarosh Lodhi.
She shares, “The thrill of being on the trail of a predator, following pug marks and alarm calls, the sudden animal sighting... it is indescribable. Capturing such moments on camera is even more thrilling. I was a little stressed as the animal kept moving, so to capture the correct moment or angle, in the right lighting, is important. Somehow, my first few shots came out better than I had expected. I’m still learning and improving my photography skills.”
‘MY MUM IS MY ROLE MODEL’
Ahead of her Bollywood debut, Rasha says that there’s a lot she has learnt from her mum, Raveena Tandon, and will continue to do so. She says, “Her guidance is invaluable to me, not because she’s an actor, but because she’s my mum. She has handled herself with such grace and maturity and I want to be like her 100%. She’s my role model and I look up to her for everything. I’d still go to her for career advice even if she wasn’t a part of the film industry. She always has my back.”
While Rasha Thadani’s tryst with photography started only recently, she says even as a kid, she would always look for interesting things to capture. “I used to have a small digital camera and I would roam around my farmhouse trying to find interesting things to click. I would also have it with me around the house, and suddenly go, ‘Papa smile!’ I would take pictures of my daadi, my brother, my dogs... basically whatever I found around the house, I used to try to make a story of it,” recounts Rasha and adds, “I now click pictures of Indian wildlife, which is a lot more interesting.”
Tryst with the wildlife
Explaining what fascinates her the most while she’s out there capturing animals, the photography enthusiast tells us, “Photography is a lot about luck and timing. Having sightings with interesting behaviour is not something that happens every day. Timing is also important to capture the exact moment that you want — that split second of the tiger looking at you or the bird opening its wings. There’s no retake in wildlife photography.”

CAMERA GIRL, ALWAYS
From enjoying her time behind the camera to facing it for the first time, Rasha admits it was surreal. Daughter of actor Raveena Tandon and producer Anil Thadani, she says, “As much as I love capturing moments, I also love being in front of the camera. Ever since I was a child, I used to ask my mum to film me dancing or singing. There are a few videos where I’ve either recited a poem or sang a song and then said, ‘Mama show me’... When I had to face the camera for the first time, I can’t describe that feeling. I was nervous, scared, but extremely excited at the same time! Growing up, I had witnessed my mum flawlessly doing her parts, and that gave me the confidence to do the same.”
A PAP FAVOURITE, ALREADY
As fans await Rasha’s first look from her debut film, she seems to be already enjoying spotlight as a favourite among the paparazzi. Ask how she’s taking this all in and the 18-year-old replies, “People have been really sweet and kind to me. I’m grateful for all the love and positivity I’ve been receiving. It’s slightly overwhelming at such an early age, but I love it!”
What’s in store
The fact that she has started shooting for her film, slated to release in February 2024, she must be getting used to how the film industry functions.
She shares, “As of now, I love the fact that I can put my creative self out there. I’ve always been a performing arts girl. Even through school, I was always the theatre or the music girl. I’ve just begun my journey and I’m excited to see what’s to unfold.
Speaking of any potential challenges, she adds, “Being from a film background predisposes you to a certain kind of pressure and expectation from the audience. I hope to live up to that.”
