I didn't like the film projects that I was getting. So, I thought, why not explore the television industry?-Rajniesh Duggall

Why Rajniesh Duggall is taking television route
Syeda Eba Fatima (HINDUSTAN TIMES; February 20, 2023)

In a career spanning over a decade, Rajniesh Duggall has been a part of projects across mediums — films, television and more recently, OTT. However, the actor is now back on the small screen for a daily soap.

“The reason for making a shift towards television is not that I was not getting enough work. In fact, I had four to five projects and I have just finished shooting for them. But, a thought [came to mind] that what if these five projects do not get released or are put on hold because of the Covid-19 situation... Also, the projects I was getting, I didn’t like them. Mujhe laga main inko karunga bhi toh koi fayda nahin hai. So, [I thought], why not explore the television industry? I was getting so many calls [for shows]. That’s when I decided to try my hand at television,” he explains.

But, did the thought of being frowned upon ever occur to him? “Luckily, I do not have the TV actor tag. And, lines between mediums are blurring. I have Inspector Avinash (web show) coming out soon, which also stars Randeep Hooda, Urvashi Rautela and Amit Sial. Then, I have Bal Naren, a great film on the Swachh Bharat Mission. The film is already making its way through the film festival circuit. Then, there is a web show called Front Page, of which Sandeep Kaul is the director. That also has a very interesting cast. I am also doing another film based on a true incident that took place at a shelter home in Muzaffarpur (Bihar) in 2018... Achhi cheez ye hai ki I am working in all mediums, so nothing else really matters,” he shares.

What’s most important, Duggall adds, is to have work throughout the year. “I learnt while doing Khatron Ke Khiladi (reality show) that you need to put your 100% into a task. The worst that can happen is that you will fail. But, you will at least have the satisfaction of having made an honest attempt. I do exactly that with everything in life. I think one should keep working hard. Give your best and then quickly move on to the next, instead of procrastinating. That’s how life is,” he wraps up.

Now, Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone, Priyanka Chopra's Bajirao Mastani moves to stage

The film has inspired a live musical, with Pandit Birju Maharaj as creative director and seven songs from the original
Himesh Mankad (MUMBAI MIRROR; June 13, 2020)

Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s 2015 period romance, Bajirao Mastani, fronted by Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra, is gearing up for a comeback as a live musical on stage. Directed by Maitreyee Pahari, with Kathak maestro Pandit Birju Maharaj as the creative director, it has Rajniesh Duggall stepping into the shoes of the Peshwa. Two renowned Kathak dancers, Shailja Nalawade and Anusua Majumdar, play his wives, Mastani and Kashibai respectively.

“The musical is based on the film,” informs the actor, adding that it features nine-10 musical sequences with 50 dancers and 12 actors from all over the country. “We have retained seven original tracks from Bajirao Mastani, including “Malhari”.

Rajniesh admits that he has watched SLB’s film multiple times to understand the nuances of the character. “Ranveer as Bajirao set a benchmark, but since this is a live performance, it will have its own flavour,” says the actor, who has trained in the semi-classical dance form, Chhao, with Pandit Birju Maharaj for 40 days. “I have eight days of practice remaining. I was a non-dancer, but naach-gaana came naturally to me once I started rehearsing. There are two major fights, too, which will be a mix of Chhao and sword-fighting.”

They were supposed to perform in Delhi in mid-April, then, travel with the play to Mumbai, Dubai and London. Rajniesh points out that they have different versions keeping the live audience in mind. For instance, there won’t be too many Marathi dialogues when performing in Delhi. In the current scenario, with films and plays taking the virtual route, will that be the way forward for them, too? Rajniesh says they are still debating on the subject. Meanwhile, the Coronavirus lockdown gave him the time to brush up on his cooking and Chhao dancing skills. “There are certain poses for which it’s imperative that your muscles don’t tighten up. I’ve been doing a lot of basic stretching. I have also been attending a few master classes on direction,” he says. Is direction on the cards, then? “Yes, I definitely want to direct a film, but I will start with a couple of shorts,” he shares, adding that he hopes someday Ranveer, SLB, Deepika and Priyanka will get to experience their musical live. “We had planned to invite them for a show,” the actor admits.

I feel like I’m the king of horror films-Rajniesh Duggall

Rajniesh Duggall says he has a ‘magnetic connection’ to the supernatural genre as he was born on a new moon day; adds he is not ‘bound to act in television or films’
Titas Chowdhury (HINDUSTAN TIMES; December 18, 2019)

Foraying into the web space has become the order of the day for most film actors. And the latest to join the bandwagon is actor Rajniesh Duggall. The model-turned-actor is all set to make his digital debut with a horror series titled The Ghost Thesis that revolves around paranormal science. Ask him about what dictated this move, and he says, “The digital medium is the third big thing that has happened in the entertainment industry, the first two being television and films. Interesting projects are happening in the digital space. As an actor, I’m not bound to only acting in films and television. Digital is the future. I’m excited to be a part of it and I look forward to doing more content here.”

Rajniesh says that the reason behind his fascination for horror films and shows lies in the fact that he was born on a new moon day. “There’s definitely some magnetic connection that I have with the genre of horror and supernaturalism. Coincidentally, the films I do are mostly about spirits and ghosts, and they revolve around the concepts of karma and past life. This is perhaps related to the fact that I was born on amavas (new moon). There has to be some past life connection.”

The 1920 (2008) actor adds, “I feel like I’m the king or the prince of horror films, thrillers and films on supernaturalism and paranormal activities. I like the fact that I’m the first name that comes to the mind of filmmakers when they’re planning on making a film that belongs to this space.”

Rajniesh believes that the lack of technical know-how is the reason behind Indian horror films being disregarded. “For a horror film to do well, the VFX and the treatment has to be excellent. And to achieve that, you need a good budget. Filmmakers tend to make horror films on a very low budget and that’s the reason these films aren’t up to the mark,” he signs off.

People seem to believe that I’m not working-Madhoo

Madhoo, who is making a comeback to Hindi films after eight years with a horror-comedy, explains the reason behind the hiatus from Bollywood
Avinash Lohana (MUMBAI MIRROR; May 15, 2019)

Madhoo, who made her acting debut alongside Ajay Devgn in Kuku Kohli’s 1991 actionromance Phool Aur Kaante and followed it up with Mani Ratnam’s National award-winning romantic-thriller Roja opposite Arvind Swamy, was last seen in a Hindi film eight years ago with Love U... Mr. Kalakaar. Now, Mirror has learnt that the actress is making her comeback to Hindi films with a horror-comedy titled Khalli Balli. Directed by Manoj Sharma, the film rolls on Friday.

Explaining how the new project came her way, Madhoo says, “Before Love U...Mr Kalakaar, I had taken a sabbatical as my children were young and I wanted to focus on them. But after that film, I had hoped that I would be working constantly. But that didn’t happen for a few more years. Then, Goldie (Behl) came to me with his TV show Aarambh. That really boosted my confidence. I shared a great rapport with my co-star Rajniesh (Duggall) and after it ended we were hoping to work together again. When Khalli Balli came his way, he suggested my name too.”

The actress will begin shooting for the film in Mumbai, from where the story goes to Lucknow through a road trip. “The horror part is treated very beautifully, and my character is not doing anything senseless or slapstick. The story is inherently funny, so much so, that I agreed to be a part of it on the day it was narrated to me. It’s an interesting script and since the genre is horror I can’t reveal much about the story, but I can tell you one thing… main bhoot nai hoon,” she laughs.

Madhoo admits it was the TV show that gave her the push she needed but Hindi projects were few and far between. “After Aarambh, I never stopped working and have done several South films, three of which have released in the first few months of this year. However, to tell you the truth, apart from Goldie and some other TV shows, nobody really came to me with offers and I didn’t want to do the latter because it would mean working every day of the month, which I wasn’t comfortable with,” she asserts.

When asked about the reason behind it, she explains that it could be because “people seem to believe that I am not working, I have settled abroad or down South, or I am not interested in working at all. That’s not true. I have always been living in Mumbai, I love working in films… and I love working in Hindi films,” she signs off.

Rajniesh Duggall braves eight injections for a scene in Wajah Tum Ho

BOMBAY TIMES (November 23, 2016)

Rajniesh Duggall's penchant for authenticity has caused him a lot of pain, literally. For a scene in Vishal Pandya's Wajah Tum Ho, the actor had to be administered an injection. While the director was okay with a dummy injection, Rajniesh insisted on the real one. Finally, a nurse was called on the set.

A source present on the set recalls, “The nurse was efficient, but she wasn't an actress. So, she became conscious in front of the camera and ended up injecting Rajniesh at the wrong spots. It took eight takes to get her act right.“ The actor, though reeling in pain, cooperated without any complaints.

In the film, Rajniesh plays the owner of a TV network that gets embroiled in a live murder.

Wajah Tum Ho, produced by T-Series, releases on December 2.

Iconic song Aise Na Mujhe Tum Dekho recreated for Wajah Tum Ho

A song from Dev Anand-Zeenat Aman’s ’70s flick returns almost 40 years later to seduce
Natasha Coutinho (MUMBAI MIRROR; November 4, 2016)

After recreating the iconic “Pal Pal Dil Ke Paas” from Vijay Anand’s 1973 thriller Blackmail, Vishal Pandya’s upcoming courtroom drama, Wajah Tum Ho, is recycling another vintage track, “Aise Na Mujhe Tum Dekho” from Gogi Anand’s 1977 Darling Darling. While the original was shot with Dev Anand and Zeenat Aman in a fort in Mahabaleshwar, the new version has been filmed in a villa created in a Mumbai studio and features Rajniesh Duggall, Sana Khaan and Sherlyn Chopra. “It’s a sensuous romantic song. Interestingly, I was in the music video of the remixed 'Chor Do Aanchal'. This is the second Dev Anand song being recreated with me and I am very excited,” Rajniesh exults.

Recently, Arijit Singh, the voice of the new “Pal Pal Dil Ke Paas” had expressed his displeasure with the way the new song has turned out, going on the social media to lash out at composer Abhijit Vaghani, saying that while he loved the Kishore Kumar original, he was ashamed of this rendition. Armaan Malik who has sung “Aisa Na Mujhe Tum Dekho” for the Meet Bros. has no such worries.

He claims he was involved in every stage, from the recording to the mixing and mastering and has ensured the song is exactly the way he envisioned it. “I don’t know what happened with 'Pal Pal Dil Ke Paas'. Even I would be unhappy if the final track did not sound good to me which is why I stay in the loop with the music team till the song is ready,” says Armaan.

He insists he did not draw from the original Kishore Kumar number for his song. “The idea of the recreating the song came from Bhushan Ji (Bhushan Kumar) who had loved my renditions of “Tumhe Apna Banane Ka” and “Pyaar Manga Hai” and suggested I sing this version too. To be honest I hadn’t heard the song before, I just knew the tune of the chorus vaguely and that it was in Kishoreda’s voice. That wasn’t a problem. It’s better if a singer disconnects from the original and brings something new to the version.”

Prod him on what kind of a twist they have given to this “Aisa Na Mujhe Tum Dekho” and he points out that the original song had a more peppy vibe while this one has a more sensual flow and feel.

Sunny Leone suddenly wanted to turn sanskari naari-Beiimaan Love producer Rajeev Chaudhari

Rajeev Chaudhari, producer of Beiimaan Love wonders why she was ‘partial’ to his film
Upala KBR (DNA; October 29, 2016)

There has been incessant buzz about Sunny Leone’s tantrums on the sets of her upcoming films. Her latest film Beiimaan Love has suffered losses and if producer Rajeev Chaudhari kept quiet till now it’s only because he was waiting for the film to release. She has not even promoted the film. Now Chaudhuri recounts the experience and the hell Sunny and her husband Daniel Weber put him through...

How was the experience of working with Sunny Leone?
It was a bad experience. It was not business that I did because after you sign someone as an artiste with a huge signing amount, you expect dates from her within a period of six months and then you roll and release the film. Of her Rs 2 crore fee, she was paid a quarter as a signing amount. I got limited dates from Sunny after one year and three months. I signed her in early 2014 and we started shooting from July 2015. I had to pay interest on the money. I had to wait a long time for her dates as she had given them away to other films and was busy with long holidays and shows.

Is it true you found it tough to cast a good hero opposite her?
Yes. The heroes I wanted to sign on, all liked the script, but when they heard Sunny was the actress they shied away. Akshay Oberoi was my first choice, but he had some problem with Sunny. He said if I took any any other heroine besides her, he would do it. Actors like Freddy Daruwala and Kartik Aaryan also turned me down because they did not want to act with Sunny. After a year of struggle, when I told Daniel about it, he recommended Rajniesh Duggall.

Did she throw a lot of tantrums on the set while shooting with regards to costumes and scenes?
Yes, it was very tough to shoot with her after the film went on floors. Her conditions were no kissing, no intimacy and no lingerie though she had committed to it before we started shooting. Sunny suddenly wanted to turn sanskari naari!

Right from the first day of shoot till the last shot, she and Daniel had issues. We had to cut parts of the song Main Adhoora too. I don’t know why they did this, but it hit me badly in business. Macau’s Studio City had agreed to sponsor us for the shoot and I had cracked the deal. Just a few days before we left for Macau, I got an email saying it’s not fitting with their image, so they are cancelling our shoot. I am assuming they didn’t know who Sunny was, when they agreed earlier.

What about editing out scenes?
I had to cut off two bedroom scenes because Daniel said she wouldn’t shoot them, though they were to be were aesthetically shot. They wanted to do the bedroom scene in the kitchen! Post Mastizaade, they had decided that the skin show is over. After the film, they became very strict and Daniel would send me emails specifying what she wouldn’t do. I am not a big corporate house. As an individual producer, I could not fight. Where would I go to fight in court? So I bowed to their wishes and completed the film. Though the bedroom scenes involved some lovemaking, they didn’t have much exposure. They got upset so we had to chop off those scenes which would have brought me money from the single screen theatres. I really slogged hard on this film but these people didn’t cooperate...

Did you recover the money made?
Not yet, as I am still struggling, though I may get some from satellite rights. Sunny wanted to use this film to revamp her image as it showed her as a businesswoman but we have to cater to the masses too. I wanted her to look classy like a good, mainstream heroine and yet not deprive the masses of her dose. I could have made good money but they ditched me. Sunny was a miscast. I regret signing her as she’s not clicking with multiplexes or the single screen theatres. It’s unfair what happened. I paid Sunny her fee. If she wanted to do art cinema, she should ask for that price. If you have given everything to films like Mastizaade, why this partiality towards me?

Is it true that her husband interferes a lot too?
He is the captain of all this. He would see my rushes and asked me cut this or that scene saying there’s too much exposure. Daniel is very interfering as he would be sending the emails.

Rajniesh Duggall refuses to shoot for Udanchhoo promotional song without Bruna Abdullah?

Actor Rajniesh Duggall refused to shoot a promotional song for an upcoming film when he learnt that co-star Bruna Abdullah wasn't a part of the shoot
Avinash Lohana (MUMBAI MIRROR; April 7, 2016)

Rajniesh Duggall was shooting for the Randeep Hooda-starrer Laal Rang in Karnal when he was approached for dates last December to shoot a promotional music video for another film, Udanchhoo. But when he reached the sets, the model-turned-actor realised that his co-star, Bruna Abdullah (right below), wasn't a part of the dance track. And he refused to shoot without her.

"It's the film's title song, 'Ud Ud Ud Udanchhoo', and I thought it would be grander if both of us were in it. So we decided to postpone the shoot," says Rajniesh who will now start filming it this week in Mumbai. It's a three-day schedule and we have begun rehearsals with choreographer Vishnudeva. Ashutosh Rana and Prem Chopra, who play pivotal roles in the film, will also be a part of the video but they won't be dancing. "Bruna, Ashutosh and I are all Scorpions so we get along well."

What caused the three-month delay? "After wrapping up Laal Rang, I got busy with the shoot of Beiimaan Love and the promotions of Direct Ishq," the actor reasons.

Lucknow publicity tour of Direct Ishq proves costly for the cast and crew?

Rajniesh Duggall and Nidhi Subbaiah in a still from the film
Gaurav Dubey (MID-DAY; February 18, 2016)

The cast of an upcoming small-budget film, Direct Ishq, was in for a rude shock during their Lucknow leg of promotions. We hear actors Rajniesh Duggall, Arjun Bijlani and Nidhi Subbaiah, and some crew members were forced to dig deep into their pockets to cover a major portion of the tour expenses.

An insider reveals, “The team was supposed to promote the movie in Lucknow with their air tickets and hotel stay paid for. They were promised a meeting with Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav. However, on landing in the city, they were informed that they would be no such meeting. When the cast and crew confronted the event organisers, the latter cancelled their return tickets and hotel booking.”

Taken aback, the actors tried sending an SOS to the film’s producer for help, but his phone remained switched off, adds the source. With no other option, the team apparently had to shell out money for their air fare and hotel accommodation.

Pradeep Sharma, the film’s producer, remained unavailable for comment, but a source close to him claims, “The event organisers went back on their word, but when Pradeep sir got to know about it, he booked the tickets for the entire team."

Sunny Leone has six lovemaking scenes in Beiimaan Love

DNA (December 20, 2015)

Sunny Leone has six lovemaking scenes in Beiimaan Love, with co-star Rajniesh Duggall. However the director isn’t apprehensive of the censor’s scissors. “Those six love making scenes are as a montage in one love song. Sunny and Rajniesh have an amazing chemistry. They actually look like they are in love! The spirit of the song is pure love and will be loved and appreciated by all, including the censors! I am sure the censors won’t cut anything in my film!” Now that’s what we call wishful thinking!

Image: Check out Rajniesh Duggall-Sunny Leone's steamy scene in Beiimaan Love

Avinash Lohana (MUMBAI MIRROR; November 25, 2015)

Rajniesh Duggall and Sunny Leone who were last seen in Ek Paheli Leela will be back together for Rajeev Choudhary's Beiimaan Love. And just like their last outing, the actors are hoping to steam up the screen with a romantic Ankit Tiwari composition, “Pyaar De“. It was shot over two days in September in a bungalow in Mumbai.

Rajniesh and Sunny had a steamy sequence in Leela too. Rajniesh insists that they are not inhibited in front of the camera. “Sunny is a dear friend, so there wasn't any awkwardness between us. We wanted to make the song look classy. The film has everything from love and revenge to lust and grief,“ Rajniesh signs off.

Sunny Leone and I make a good jodi-Rajniesh Duggall

A good start and a lull later, model turned actor Rajniesh Duggall suddenly seems to be right amidst the action. With multiple films on floors, he should be looking at a rather exciting 2016
Noyon Jyoti Parasara (BOMBAY TIMES; November 6, 2015)

You seem to have a lot of ishq and love in your career!
Yes, I know. Probably because I am a romantic at heart (laughs). On a serious note, yes it's interesting actually. I first worked Karisma Kapoor on Dangerous Ishq. I have done a Banarasi rom-com Direct Ishq, which is my next release and then I am currently in between Beiimaan Love, which is a dark romantic film with Sunny Leone! So, I suppose there is a lot of ishq and love right now!

Two films with Sunny Leone! Is Sunny turning out to be your favourite?
She is very good to work with. We have worked in Ek Paheli Leela and it was appreciated. A lot of producers have been calling for films that feature both of us together. So, I would definitely say that, yes, we do make a good jodi.

You have a lot of steamy scenes with her. What does your wife say?
Of course, there were steamy scenes in Leela and there are some steamy scenes in Beimaan Love as well. But my wife Pallavi knows this is acting, and I know this is acting. Sunny knows it is acting. I don't see any reason to go by other people's judgments. We are within limits and its fine.

You also did some TV. Would you take a Bigg Boss or something like that?
Khatron Ke Khiladi was a great experience. I had also done a musical show called Ramleela Ajay Devgn Ke Saath. That was my first experience with TV and it was an amazing experience. KKK is something I always wanted to do as I love adventure. But Bigg Boss is something I would not be able to do. I don't like getting confined into a certain space with other people, 24x7, for such a long time. But there are some other interesting nonfiction shows that have come to me. You might just see me in a mini-series soon!

You started with a hit but then things went rather slow for you...
Post 1920, I shot for a film called Phhir, which was a good film but took about two years to release because of some issues that the producers had. That pushed me back by almost two years and was a huge blow. Especially because I am not from a filmy background or from anywhere where I would be making my movies myself ! But now I am on track. I have around four films.

How did Ek Leela Paheli and KKK work towards getting you back into the scene?
KKK worked well for me as a person. There were earlier certain hesitations that I had as a person whether I should do some things or not. These hesitations went away after the show and I became clear when it came to decision making. That was a positive change. And that's a reason why Leela happened. When the role was brought to me it was just seven minutes long in the past life. When we shot it, it turned into a full on hero's role that was a part of the 35 minutes past life!

Taking off on the ishq part of your career, how romantic are you in life?
I have had a love marriage. Probably this is a question you should ask my wife. I am a romantic person and I suppose it is evident at some level too.

Do you look forward to sharing and interacting with your fans on Follo?
Of course! Follo is a great initiative. This is one place where we would actually end up talking to or listen to actual fans and admirers. I am really looking forward to this!

How these actors woo their women

Neha Maheshwri Bhagat (BOMBAY TIMES; July 30, 2015)

Aping her favourite movie star and playing the cool dude is passé. When it comes to wooing their dream girl, our television actors swear by old-school rules like chivalry, honesty and gift of the gag. So, if you are looking for the best way to capture a woman's heart, here's your chance to learn some tricks from these charmers:

DON'T PRETEND:
Women stay away from pretentious men, observes Ashish Chowdhry. He advises men to be themselves, adding, “Simplicity with a dash of humour is the best way to impress a girl. If you are honest and genuine, you can never go wrong. A little financial indulgence also helps. Girls like surprises, so springing one on my date would be my style of wooing. I would also plan a romantic holiday to an undisclosed exotic location and pamper her to no end. That's the best way to make her feel like a queen.“

LOVE IS IN THE AIR:
Arjan Bajwa wants his woman to feel on top of the world, literally. He says, “I'm very fond of flying and so, I would like to take her on a short joyride with me in the cockpit. Fly over the hills and lakes and serene vineyards. Who doesn't like wading through the clouds while you are with that special someone?“

BE A GOOD LISTENER:
It is simple: Women love to talk and be heard. If you ignore either of these facts, it can nip the very possibility of a relationship in the bud. Says Rajniesh Duggall, “It is a must to shower her with compliments. Honesty, loyalty and most importantly, lending an ear to everything she says, do the trick. Gifts sure are a part of it, but striking a good conversation and paying undivided attention are even more important.“

CHIVALRY ISN'T DEAD:
Rithvik Dhanjani disagrees with guys who think it's okay to skip good manners with a potential girlfriend. He says, “There is a lack of chivalry in guys today. For women, it is often small things that matter most. So, treat her like an equal and be chivalrous at the same time. Both can go hand-in-hand.“

IGNORANCE IS BLISS:
Shivin Narang feels fawning over a girl and overdoing it can spoil the scene. It's best to try and gauge if the woman is even remotely interested before going all out with your feelings, he cautions, or you may end up with an egg on the face. He says, “I'm unusually shy and find it odd to express my feelings. But when I want to woo a girl, I use my old-school technique, which is to ignore her in the beginning. It gives me time to understand if she is interested in me. Also, women love men who play hard to get.“

BE SINCERE:
A guy's looks and monies do matter to a woman. But a real woman would look deeper. “If you want to woo a woman, you should be honest, sincere and loyal towards her. Give her importance and keep showering love and affection upon her. I think these things would matter more than looks and money,“ says Sahil Anand.

WAY TO A WOMAN'S HEART IS ALSO THROUGH HER STOMACH:
Today's women adore men who can keep up with her even in the kitchen. Your cooking chops can give you an edge over your contemporaries. Vivian Dsena says, “I am a good cook and would impress my girlfriend by cooking for her. Anyone can take his girl to an expensive restaurant, but going that extra mile and cooking for your lady will make her feel extra special. Besides cooking dishes of her choice, I would also prepare my signature dish, a special dessert - kesar dry fruit rabdi - for her. It is said that the way to a man's heart is through his stomach, but it holds true for women, too.“

CLEANLINESS MATTERS:
A man should not be overbearing while wooing a woman, says Gautam Rode, adding that cleanliness can help him score a few brownie points. “Don't make it obvious that you are vying for her attention. If you overdo it, she will back off. Being yourself is the ultimate deal maker. Being presentable and smelling good will also attract women. Body and mouth odour are big turn-offs.“

Check out Rajniesh Duggall as the Marathi Manoos in Udanchhoo

Avinash Lohana (MUMBAI MIRROR; June 3, 2015)

Mirror had earlier (May 5, 2015) reported that Rajniesh Duggall has replaced Gautam Gulati in director Vipin Parashan's Udanchhoo and the former model-turned-actor, who plays a conman, will be sporting almost 10 different looks in the film. He will be seen as a Maharashtrian, a South Indian, a police inspector and also as Anthony from Manmohan Desai's popular hit Amar Akbar Anthony.

Mirror managed to get hold of him in one of his disguises. As a Marathi manoos in an all-white attire, complete with a topi and a tilak, the usually jeans-and-sneakers dude was almost unrecognisable. They were shooting in Greater Noida, with the temperature peaking at 47 degrees Celsius, and Rajniesh who successfully manages to cheat a lot of gullible people in the film, couldn't trick the weather into getting cooler. Phew! Joining the cat-and-mouse chase is Pankaj Jha who plays a cop.

Rajniesh Duggall replaces Gautam Gulati in Udanchhoo

Sanyukta Iyer (MUMBAI MIRROR; May 5, 2015)

Gautam Gulati was all set to make his big Bollywood debut with Udanchhoo, playing a scamster who romances Brazilian model, Bruna Abdullah and newcomer Saisha Sehgal. But nine days after the Big Boss Season 8 winner launched the film, he walked out of it for an Ekta Kapoor project. And now, Khatron Ke Khiladi Season 5 winner, Rajniesh Duggall has replaced the Diya Aur Bati Hum star.

"I was approached for the film four months ago but I did not have any dates available since I was busy shooting for Tera Beimaan Love with Sunny Leone," says Rajniesh, adding, "Later, I heard that Gautam had signed the film. But when things didn't work out with him, I was back on track," he says.

The con-caper will see the former model sporting over 10 different looks, while he romances his two leading ladies.

The actor will begin filming with director Vipin Parashan in Mumbai today. "We'll also be travelling to Delhi and Dehradun for the film," he signs off.

With the entire focus on Sunny Leone, Ek Paheli Leela male actors feeling left out?

Sunny Leone and (left from top) Jay Bhanushali, Mohit Ahlawat and Rajniesh Duggal
Shaheen Parkar (MID-DAY; March 19, 2015)

Sunny Leone might be raising the temperature with her oomph in her upcoming film, Ek Paheli Leela, but her male co-stars are feeling the heat — literally. Buzz is that Jay Bhanushali, Mohit Ahlawat and Rajniesh Duggal, who feature in prominent roles in the Bobby Khan film, feel that they have been sidelined. The posters only feature Sunny with not even a miniscule snapshot of the trio.

The guy brigade has apparently been throwing a fit and making their displeasure known to the makers. Says a source, “The male costars are feeling insecure as Sunny is hogging all the limelight. This is creating problems in the film’s dubbing. One of the actors had been skipping the dubbing sessions repeatedly. It was only after the makers told him that his role would be edited out that he turned up.”

When Sunny stepped into one of the film’s events recently, Jay was heard telling the other two actors: “Let’s go now, Sunny has arrived.” The source adds, “Jay may have made this comment in jest, but it was clear what is going on in their minds. They feel everything is tilted heavily in favour of Sunny.” There are rumours that one of the three actors has gone to the extent of promoting himself and the film at a personal level — reaching into his own pocket to pay for publicity material. He feels that this will at least make him visible alongside Sunny.

A source from Cape Town, who was part of the shooting, says the decision was taken at the last minute. “Nikitin Dheer, Gurmeet Choudhary and Rajniesh Duggal were the three finalists. As per the protocol each year they were asked to assemble for the winner’s name to be announced. But they were told that the winner will be announced in India and they’ll be informed accordingly.”

One of the contestants, who did not make it to the finals, says they have not yet been given their full and final remuneration for participating in the show. “All of us, including the host Rohit Shetty, are sworn to secrecy by contract. We will be paid our final remuneration only at the end of the show,” he reveals.

A source from the channel says, “This time we haven’t divulged the name of the winner even to the contestants. Every season the name of the winner is revealed back home India as soon as the finale is shot. The suspense surrounding the competition is thereby ruined even before the show was telecast.”
