The makers of Shaadi Mein Zaroor Aana will not be able to avail subsidy from the Uttar Pradesh government because promotions for the film can’t take place in the state.

A source tells mid-day, “The entire movie has been shot in Lucknow and Allahabad. As per the subsidy norms of the state’s film policy, the subsidy is given when the final product is ready. Film promotions in prime cities are a major part of the process. The Shaadi Mein Zaroor Aana team had planned promotions in Lucknow this week, but they had to be cancelled after Rajkummar suffered a leg injury on the set of a reality show.”

Adds the source, “Until Saturday, director Ratnaa Sinha was certain that they would be able to pull off promotions in Lucknow, but it looks unlikely now due to time constraints. Ratnaa doesn’t see any sense in putting everyone through the hassle [because of Rao’s injury].”

When contacted, producer Vinod Bachchan tells mid-day that his lead actor’s well-being is his topmost priority: “Raj has been advised complete rest by the doctors. He is pushing himself as much as possible. He will be promoting the film in Delhi, but Lucknow and Allahabad won’t be possible. As far as subsidy goes, we don’t make movies to earn benefits. This film is made from the heart and the actors are our priority.”

On Sunday afternoon, while shooting for Farah Khan’s reality show, Rajkummar Rao broke his ankle. He now needs to undergo a surgery on Tuesday.

Speaking from his home, where he was being looked after by friends and family, Raj said, “I am on painkillers and at home. This is God’s way of telling me to slow down. This year, I was going really fast. I’ve already had five releases and there’s one more — Shaadi Mein Zaroor Aana — coming up.”

Raj faces a crisis of time management. “The film that will be affected immediately would be Fanney Khan, which I’m shooting for. But I will be back on the sets in a couple of days. In fact, on Tuesday, I will be doing some promotional interviews for my new film before the surgery. I have to keep working and I am sure I can do all my work as long as I don’t strain my leg,” he says.

Mirror had earlier reported (October 23) that Rajkummar Rao was scheduled to shoot with his Bareilly Ki Barfi co-star Kriti Sanon for Farah Khan’s singing reality show, Lip Sing Battle, on Sunday. But the act was abruptly halted after the actor suffered a fracture in his leg during rehearsals.

Today, while Raj undergoes surgery under the care of Farah’s doctor, Farhad Taraporvala, a leading orthopedic surgeon, it has emerged that shooting for his portions in Atul Manjrekar’s Anil Kapoor and Aishwarya Rai starrer Fanney Khan has been pushed to a later date.

The film’s producer Prernaa Arora told Mirror, “We learnt about the mishap on Sunday and the schedule will be changed accordingly. We will resume work on Rajkummar’s portions as soon as he recovers as he has combination scenes with both Anil sir and Aishwarya. Our earlier plan was to wrap up by November. Now, we will know on Tuesday how much time he will need to recover. For now, we will finish the solo portions with Anil sir, Aishwarya and the other actors. So the shooting is not delayed.”

Meanwhile, Farah, who was at a SoBo hospital with Raj on Monday evening, said, “The doctor is confident he will be fine soon but he needs to rest for four-five weeks post-surgery to recover completely.”
