Rajat Bedi breaks his silence on recent car accident episode

Sugandha Rawal (HINDUSTAN TIMES; September 20, 2021)

Actor Rajat Bedi is quite disturbed following the recent car accident involving him, which led to the death of one person. He says that even though he wasn’t at fault, he feels guilty and has decided to support the victim’s family in every possible way.

On September 6, Bedi’s car hit Rajesh Baudh in the D N Nagar area of Mumbai, following which he took the injured to the hospital, but unfortunately, the person didn’t survive. It has been reported that the actor has been booked for causing death by negligence. The case is still under investigation.

Breaking his silence for the first time after the incident, Bedi tells us, “The accident completely destroyed me. Even though it wasn’t my fault, I’m devastated... I tried my best to save his life.”

Bedi shares that he took care of all the expenses, including the funeral and he’ll continue to financially support the family of the deceased. “I’m just waiting for the police thing to get done with and then I’ll sit and look after (the victim’s) daughters and invest in fixed deposits for their future. I’ve also got his wife a stable job so that at least the family income will be decent,” shares the actor.

Looking back at the “traumatic” incident, the Koi... Mil Gaya (2003) actor shares, “After the accident, I just got out of the car, picked him and rushed to the hospital, all this while people kept saying, ‘Arrey actor hai, actor’, implying all the previous accident-related incidents involving actors. Thankfully, the accident didn’t happen at night. It happened at 5.30 pm, nahi toh they would’ve assumed ki main peekar gaadi chala raha tha.”

He goes on, “It was crazy at the government hospital. There was no one to look at him and I was freaking out, ‘What the hell is happening, this person needs immediate medical attention’. But after that, they took up his case and gave him attention, while I took care of everything financially and also arranged blood for him at 3 in the morning.”

“I’ll not get over this guilt, and just hope time will heal the unfortunate, traumatic scars a bit,” he ends.

Thirty-nine-year-old Rajesh Ramsingh Baudh, who was hit by actor Rajat Bedi’s car near the D N Nagar Metro station two days back, died at the Cooper Hospital on Tuesday. Following this, the D N Nagar police added IPC section 304-A (causing death by negligence) in the FIR and booked the actor, though he has not been arrested yet. Hospital sources said Baudh needed 10-12 bottles of O-blood for immediate surgery on Monday night, but the family couldn’t arrange for it.

Following the accident, police had conducted a medical check-up of Baudh and found that he was drunk. Hospital sources said that he died due to serious head injuries. The cops have sent his body for post-mortem. Police said that they have seized the car that Bedi was driving and it is registered on his mother’s name. According to a source, the car’s PUC certificate had expired in May.

Actor booked
Senior inspector, Milind Kurde said, “We have added section 304-A (causing death by negligence) in the FIR against Bedi. We have not arrested him yet and are investigating.”

Deceased Baudh’s sister told mid-day, “My brother was crossing the road near D N Nagar Metro Station when Bedi’s car hit him. He was drunk but was in a condition to cross the road. While a crowd gathered at the spot, one of our cousins identified him and informed us. The actor took him to Cooper Hospital and admitted him. However, late that night he escaped from the hospital even though my brother needed blood urgently. Before leaving, Bedi gave some money to his driver and said that he would arrange for the blood, but nothing was done. On Tuesday morning Bedi sent his team to help us with blood but it was too late by then.”

A source from Cooper Hospital said, “After Baudh’s admission, the doctors asked his family to arrange for 10-12 bottles of O negative blood but they couldn’t get it.”

Dean of Cooper Hospital, Dr. Shailesh Mohite told mid-day, “Baudh died in hospital late on Tuesday night. We have sent his body for post-mortem and are awaiting the report.”

‘Not Bedi’s fault’
When contacted, Bedi’s business manager, Sridevi Shetty said, “It is an unfortunate incident though it was not Bedi’s fault, he was driving very slowly. Baudh suddenly came in front of the car and he was fully drunk. Bedi immediately took him to Cooper Hospital and extended all possible help and support to arrange for blood. Bedi had been praying for his recovery but his sudden demise has left him shattered. We wish to express our sincere heartfelt condolences to the deceased’s family and will help them in whatever way possible. Bedi’s friend Suresh has been with them throughout and helped them with medicines, treatment and did his final rites today. Rajat is cooperating with the authorities.”

Shetty refused to divulge any details regarding the ownership of the car that has been seized.
