PINK held up very well on its second Friday with collections in the 3 crore nett range The drop is minimal on Friday from Thursday and the film has emerged a HIT. The film has not been appreciated all over India but is a hit on the lines of NEERJA and KAPOOR & SONS and one of the very few successes of 2016. The film is very similar to NEERJA and in real terms is doing better than that film. The eighth day collections are higher than NEERJA though not in terms of NETT collections as NEERJA had a tax exemption on its eight day in Mumbai, Pune and Delhi which were huge contributors for NEERJA and also PINK. North India is faring best for the film on day eight for two main reasons, one being it has a North setting and secondly North tend to hold a better when a film works.
The circuit collections are also very similar to NEERJA and even without the tax exemptions there is a possibility of the film going near 70 crore nett. The GROSS collections will beat NEERJA. In fact KAPOOR & SONS had higher GROSS collections than NEERJA and so that will be the target for PINK.
The other release of last week RAAZ REBOOT crashed on the 8th day with collections not reaching the 50 lakhs nett mark. The film will probably close in the 25-26 crore nett range which is the same business of the second RAAZ film in 2009 but inflation adjusted it works out to be 48 crore nett which is almost double of RAAZ REBOOT. RAAZ (2002) is 118 crore nett inflation adjusted and RAAZ 3 is 88 crore nett inflation adjusted.
-------------------
PINK showed huge growth on its second Saturday as again high end multiplexes had very good occupancy of around 60%. The growth was around 80% which is similar to its first Saturday. The weekend business of the film is looking to go to around 16 crore nett which will be a 25% drop from last week. The trend of the film from week one to week two will be the best of the year comfortably beating NEERJA despite that film getting tax exemptions. The business of Pink till date is as follows.
Week One - 35,75,00,000
Friday - 3,00,00,000
Saturday - 5,50,00,000
Second Weekend - 8,50,00,000
GRAND TOTAL - 44,25,00,000
-------------------
PINK had a good second weekend grossing 14.50 crore nett and went to the 50 crore nett mark in ten days. The drop from the first weekend was around 30% which is solid trending. The film showed huge growth on Saturday but Sunday was limited growth as the film has done its business and eventually there is a limit to the footfalls the film can get and that will come into play into play sooner or later. Though it would have been the third week where business was expected to slow and not the second Sunday. The film has so far grossed around 15 crore nett in Mumbai and around 11.25 crore nett in Delhi UP. The business of NEERJA after ten days was 49 crore nett approx and that was with tax exemptions in Maharashtra, Delhi, UP and Gujarat. The business of PINK till date is as follows.
Week One - 35,51,00,000
Friday - 3,00,00,000
Saturday - 5,50,00,000
Sunday - 6,00,00,000
Second Weekend - 14,50,00,000
GRAND TOTAL - 50,01,00,000
The best circuit for the film is Mysore where the film has grossed around 5 crore nett and will probably be the third highest grossing film in the circuit after SULTAN and AIRLIFT. The film has already beaten films like HOUSEFULL 3 and UDTA PUNJAB and will cross KAPOOR & SONS in the next few days. The film could do around 7.5-8 crore nett in Mysore.

RAAZ REBOOT continued at low levels on Tuesday and the film has flopped as its unlikely to sustain from here on. If Tuesday could have been like Monday or higher then maybe second week could have seen some fair collections although even then 40 crore lifetime would have been near impossible. The film is also now gone to low levels in places like Nizam/Andhra where opening figures were respectable. The film is now lower than PINK in all circuits barring the ones which have very few multiplexes like Bihar, Assam and Odisha. The first five day business of RAAZ REBOOT is as follows
Friday - 5,13,00,000
Saturday - 4,75,00,000
Sunday - 5,50,00,000
Monday - 2,25,00,000
Tuesday - 2,00,00,000
TOTAL - 19,63,00,000 apprx
The way the film is going it may just go above the second RAAZ film released in 2009 which grossed a little under 26 crore nett. The week is going to end at around 23 crore nett and looking at weekday occupancy it will be a struggle to go over 30 crore nett.
--------------------------
RAAZ REBOOT has failed with first week collections of around 22.75 crore nett. The weekend was poor and the collections dropped badly on the weekdays. The film has more footfalls than PINK over the weekend despite lower collections but over the week even the footfalls are below PINK by around 3 lakhs. The film had average collections at some single screens when it opened but the genre has to open well at single screens and not average as support from multiplexes will be less. The way occupancy was over the weekdays it is a big ask for the film to get to 30 crore nett. Its the worst performer of the RAAZ brand by a distance with the first film being best followed by the third film and then the second film while RAAZ REBOOT is fourth.

RAAZ REBOOT may have had a poor weekend and has practically flopped after the big drop on Monday but it did get more footfalls than PINK across India despite having lower all India collections. This is because both films were totally the opposite as RAAZ REBOOT managed its best collections at single screens while PINK scored at high end multiplexes. Neither film got many footfalls with RAAZ REBOOT at 18.73 lakhs while PINK was a little under 18 lakhs. But what it is shows is that smaller films have to be aimed at this high end multiplex audience as the business comes if this audience takes to it despite limited footfalls due to high ticket ticket rates. The details of both films are as follows.
Raaz Reboot
Gross - 21,63,00,000
Footfalls - 18.73 lakhs
ATP (Weekend) - INR 115.50
Pink
Gross - 29,71,00,000
Footfalls - 17.94 lakhs
ATP (Weekend) - INR 165.70
The ticket rates at single screens are around 25% on average of these high end multiplexes so you have to be getting in four people against one to compete. Not that it can't happen but RAAZ REBOOT was not at that level. The footfalls of PINK will be ahead of RAAZ REBOOT by the end of the week but remains to be seen where they go in the long run. Neerja had 66 lakh footfalls but that was with tax free exemption which enabled lower ticket rates.

RAAZ REBOOT had a big fall on Monday as the film fell around 56% from Friday. The collections over the weekend were poor and so a drop like this seals the fate of the film. The drops were across the board and the weekend trend suggested a difficult road ahead and that is what has happened. A horror film has to get its audience in the theatres on day one and that is where RAAZ REBOOT failed. It could be due to the censor board that a tamer film was made without the horror and sex usually associated with the RAAZ brand but a brand has to stick to its strengths to have a chance. The first four day business of RAAZ REBOOT is as follows
Friday - 5,13,00,000
Saturday - 4,75,00,000
Sunday - 5,50,00,000
Monday - 2,25,00,000
TOTAL - 17,63,00,000 approx
The first week will be around 23.50 crore nett which will be just 11.50 crore share whereas the film needs a 20 crore share. The second week will struggle even in many single screens where the occupancy is just not good enough to give it a second week run.

RAAZ REBOOT struggled on day two as business was similar to the first day with most of the circuits where it managed average business like a Nizam and UP going down on day two. There was improvement at some multiplexes but it was a limited push. Both PINK and RAAZ REBOOT needed a 20 crore nett weekend and RAAZ REBOOT will not get while PINK has a chance but even if it does not get at least it has a trend where it can make ground on the weekdays. The first two day business of RAAZ REBOOT is as follows
Friday - 5,13,00,000
Saturday - 4,75,00,000 approx
TOTAL - 9,88,00,000 approx
------------------------
RAAZ REBOOT had a poor weekend as it grossed 15.50 crore nett over the first weekend but this was on the cards as the film did not open well outside a few single screens and the horror genre has to take an opening to survive. The few horror films which has have been hits in India has always opened well, even the ones which managed average business have opened. The film was taken for 20 crore for all India theatrical and to recover that it needed 40 crore all India which looks near impossible after this weekend. The first weekend business of RAAZ REBOOT is as follows
Friday - 5,13,00,000
Saturday - 4,75,00,000
Sunday - 5,50,00,000 approx
TOTAL - 15,38,00,000 approx
The best business for the film is Nizam/Andhra where the film has grossed around 1.05 crore nett. This circuit tends to perform better for Emraan Hashmi films. The film could hold at low levels over the weekdays but that won't be enough. The opening weekends of the the four Raaz films are below and as can be seen that the collections of RAAZ REBOOT are just 30% more than RAAZ - THE MYSTERY CONTINUES which was released in 2009. That film finished on 25.50 crore nett and RAAZ REBOOT could struggle to go higher.
Raaz (2002) - 2,32,00,000
Raaz - The Mystery Continues (2009) - 11,92,00,000
Raaz 3 (2012) - 34,43,00,000
Raaz Reboot (2016) - 15,38,00,000 apprx

RAAZ REBOOT like PINK also had a low first day grossing around 4.75-5 crore nett. Though the collections are higher than PINK the gap is closer than it should be as the film did open better. But collections in the evening did not rise as much as PINK. The film has done well in parts of North, Rajasthan and Nizam/Andhra but the collections at multiplexes were generally dull and was driven by single screen business which was actually good in some parts of the country. Still the collections are more than 50% lower than the last part of RAAZ which means this film has gone wrong somewhere as the franchise is much bigger but here the theatrical did not play to the strengths of the franchise.
The film has been taken at 20 crore for its Indian theatrical rights and so day one needed to be a bit higher unless the growth comes but that won't be easy. Basically the difference between PINK and RAAZ REBOOT in terms of trend will be is that the former has done its best business where collections jump big on Saturday while RAAZ REBOOT has done its best business where collections don't really improve on the initial. The film also has some business at major multiplexes but the ratio against all India is three times lower than PINK.
Both RAAZ REBOOT and PINK need around 40 crore nett plus for recovery (20 share for RAAZ REBOOT and 17 for PINK) and PINK probably has better chance due to the likely growth on Saturday but it will be Monday which will decide. If RAAZ REBOOT can grow 20-25% on Saturday it will have a fighting chance.
