Puaada collects 16.25 cr in 17 days worldwide

PUAADA has done very well since release with collections of 16.25 crore worldwide. The film has done over 6 crore nett in India so far and $1.25 million in overseas. The collections in India would have been much more in India now as the market is in a better position but it has still managed over 6 crore nett despite starting with just 50 cinemas in East Punjab.
The Overseas is better than India due to limited release in India. United Kingdom is already a record for Ammy Virk films and will go around 40% past his previous best, NIKKA ZAILDAAR 2, and this film has come post the pandemic while the latter was before.

PUAADA had a very strong hold on its second Monday as collections were better than Friday. The film is heading for second week business in the 2 crore nett range which would be an under 50% fall from a eight day first week.
Even if we compare the first day, then collections are down under 50% on day eleven with the drop in East Punjab being even less as the contribution from East Punjab is 90% now compared to over 80% at the time of release.
The film is now doing more business across all cities of Punjab compared to BELLBOTTOM while Chandigarh had a similar total for both films. Even the East Punjab (includes Haryana and Himachal) number for both films was similar though it was second Monday for PUAADA and first Monday for BELLBOTTOM.

PUAADA has sustained well in its second weekend as it collected over 1 crore nett over its second Monday. The film lost some of its screen time to BELLBOTTOM but was generally doing far better occupancy in Punjab cities as compared to BELLBOTTOM. The total collections so far is around the 5 crore nett mark across India with more than 4 crore nett coming from East Punjab.
The film will continue to do well over the weekdays as the film has been accepted and then it will face competition from CHAL MERA PUTT 2. This film was on course to becoming a big hit but was pulled out of theatres after just 2 full days due to the first lockdown in India last March. It remains to be seen how it goes when it returns back to the cinemas.
The Overseas business of PUAADA is simply fantastic as the second weekend grosses around $225k taking the total collections to almost $1.1 million. Canada is excellent with $450k but the best performance is United Kingdom as it becomes the only film to do well in since cinemas returned in May 2019 apart from PETER RABBIT 2: THE RUNAWAY. The film is on course for £200k plus total in UK which very few Punjabi films have hit in normal times. The worldwide business of the film so far is around 13.50 crore.

PUAADA has done very well in week one as it collected a little under 4 crore nett in its eight day first week and this has come from just 60 odd cinemas and it started day one with just 50. The drop was there on Thursday because of the release of BELLBOTTOM but the film has found appreciation and will continue to its rock steady run again.
The collections in the four main cities (Chandigarh, Ludhiana, Amritsar and Jalandhar) are simply outstanding despite some cinemas being shut. The first week numbers are far higher than anything released post the pandemic and even higher than any film released in 2020 in some of the multiplexes in these cities. The key PVR property in Mohali is now coming into play from today which is the highest collecting cinema for Punjabi films. The SRS chain which went bankrupt will have its Ludhiana property started up again by another party and this reflects how the film has got the market going again in Punjab.

PUAADA put up fantastic first week numbers in Punjab and extraordinary numbers in the four big cities. The public came out pretty much as normal for the comedy entertainer though the occupancy rule and limited release held back numbers but no doubt it will make some ground over the coming weeks.
The audience has come out in good numbers though collections may only be what the box office allows but at the end of the day the film is running strongly. PUAADA was even getting more footfalls than BELLBOTTOM on Thursday in most cities of Punjab even though it was day eight. The collections may have been less but that is down to higher ticket rates for BELLBOTTOM due to 3D.
The four big centres did extremely well but the best performance actually came at Cinepolis Mittal in Bhatinda which collected a huge 12.03 lakh in just five and a half days as it started Saturday afternoon. There were 12 cinemas in total which crossed 10 lakhs nett which is huge for the present time.
The film did not get a release in many of non national chain multiplexes of the state and most of these would have shown outstanding collections. A core Punjabi film loving centre like Moga did not even see a release. The film has got the Punjab market going and now even centres in Himachal Pradesh like Solan, Kullu, Surendranagar, Hamirpur etc will start with the film this week.

PUAADA maintained very well on Tuesday with numbers similar to Monday and now it is about where the second Friday lands. The film is heading for a 4 crore nett apprx eight day total which is very good. The second week could see the film add a few more properties in East Punjab as some more cinemas open up.
The business so far is around 3.25 crore nett with East Punjab contribution being over 2.60 crore nett with a 50 cinema release going to 61 cinemas by Sunday.

PUAADA had a strong hold on Monday as it collected 40 lakhs nett. The hold in East Punjab was excellent as the drop was mainly in multiplexes which had high collections over the weekend and this is because of the ticket price drop. There were some properties which collected more than Thursday and Friday.
The collections so far in India are almost 3 crore nett and it should end with a first week total of 4 crore nett. The film is doing extraordinary business overseas as Monday collections were better than Thursday in North America and Australia. Overall Monday will be as good day one in Overseas and the film is certain to cross the $1.5 million and could even hit $2 million which would be insane for the present time.

Puaada collects 2.50 cr in 4 days; emerges a record opener in the United Kingdom and New Zealand

PUAADA recorded good weekend business of 2.50 crore nett with most of this coming from East Punjab. It was a limited release in East Punjab with the release being mainly in the multiplexes of the big four cities (Chandigarh, Ludhiana, Amritsar and Jalandhar). The four cities contributed around 60% of the East Punjab business and all four saw excellent occupancy.
The release of the film has held back the numbers but this coupled with good occupancy over the weekend should mean good holds over the weekdays. But its obvious a film cannot match the business it can potentially do in 175 theatres on 50 odd theatres. The theatre count did go up from 50 on day one to 59 on day four but that is still well short of normal.
The huge plus is the business from overseas which will come in close to $600K with United Kingdom doing phenomenally well as it collects almost £85k from just 26 theatres. The lifetime numbers in UK should cross £200k which were blockbuster numbers for a Punjabi film before the pandemic. The UK is doing well as far as Coronavirus goes but the theatrical collections have not been too good. PUAADA will be the first film released in the UK be it from any industry to do business how films used to do before the pandemic.

PUAADA has done excellent business in Overseas and if the film did not have restrictions in Canada and Australia had been norma,l it would have easily been the biggest opening for an Ammy Virk starrer. This is huge, considering its the first release post the pandemic.
The film is a record opener for Ammy Virk in the United Kingdom and New Zealand. In the United Kingdom it is the fifth highest opening Punjabi film ever with £84k. Going by the New Zealand numbers you can take Australia fair value to be around at least $175k but it only did $62k due to the country being hit by Covid-19. There were restrictions in Canada and it probably lost $75k there but still managed a huge $275k.
Puaada has grossed $575k across all international markets and this would have been around $750-800k if all was normal. But what Puaada proves is that the audience will return if the content is there as far as the international markets goes, though depending on the Covid-19 situation. If your film is catering mainly to the Australian market and releases now then obviously it will suffer. The film grossed over 7 crore worldwide with over 4 crore coming from Overseas.
Below are the top openers of Ammy Virk in overseas. PUAADA did have four days but if we take three days and assume a normal Australia and Canada release, it would still be the top Ammy Virk opener beating NIKKA ZAILDAAR 2.

PUAADA showed strong growth on Saturday with collections going up 50% for a total of 70 lakhs nett. The collections also had huge growth in Delhi city. The film has so far collected 1.67 crore nett in three days and there should be further growth on Sunday.
PUAADA is running at excellent occupancy wherever it has been released in Punjab be it the upmarket PVR Elante in Chandigarh or be it Padam cinema in a small centre like Doraha. There are going to be some theatres which will cross 10 lakh nett for the weekend and one or two may even hit 15 lakh nett which means extraordinary footfalls for these theatres.
The Overseas business of the film is fantastic as it collected around $400k in three days with United Kingdom and New Zealand looking at record weekends for an Ammy Virk satrrer. The worldwide business of the film over a four day weekend will in the 7 crore gross range which is huge considering how much it has been held back in Punjab with a limited release.

PUAADA continued to do well on Friday as it collected around 45 lakh nett plus on Friday taking its two day total to around 1 crore nett. The film continues to do well though the collections do not quite reflect how well it is doing as it was released in only 50 theatres in East Punjab. But the theatre count will go up today as a few Carnival properties open up in Punjab and Haryana.
The film has also scored very well in Overseas as day two will do around $135k with huge jumps in Canada and the Oceania belt. The business in Overseas outside Australia is pretty much like a pre pandemic Punjabi HIT film. Australia is suffering at the moment due to lockdowns for covid19. The two day overseas will be close to $225k.

Puaada collects 55 lakhs on day 1

PUAADA did well on its first day as it collected 50-55 lakhs nett on day one but this number does not tell the complete story as the film released on just 55 cinemas in East Punjab compared to the 175 it would have had on a normal release.
The best comparison is probably the collections from PVR properties which had the closest to a normal release. Here, the three key properties in East Punjab circuit were the main ones missing. The film managed to collect 18 lakh nett from PVR and looking at these collections then the missing three PVR properties would collect another 3 lakh with PVR Mohali adding 2 lakh alone.
So PVR collections post the pandemic with 50% occupancy would be around 21 lakhs nett and the last Ammy Virk film SUFNA released in Feb 2020 collected 29 lakh nett on all PVR properties on day one when things were normal. PUAADA is around 30% less with only 50% occupancy allowed and this is a great result for the first major release after the pandemic. No doubt if the film was allowed 100% occupancy, it would have surpassed the PVR numbers of SUFNA despite Covid-19.
The film has generally done very well in East Punjab but it is not reflected in the total collections due to the limited release and then on top restrictions to capacity on this limited release. There will more theatres added today including one more PVR theatre and its possible that more theatres will come on board over the weekend. This could lead to much stronger numbers on Saturday and Sunday. Sunday is crucial as signs of families returning would be a huge boost..
The film had a good response in Delhi city also with collections in the 10 lakhs nett range which is similar to what SUFNA had done in Feb 2020. SUFNA collected 11 lakhs nett in Delhi city. There are no night shows in Delhi but this is compensated by more shows in the city due to lack of Hindi films. Still it is 50% occupancy allowed here and if 100% was allowed it would have easily surpassed the SUFNA numbers.
The film also scored very well in UK as it collected almost £15,000 and that too on a Thursday. The film had a good response in Canada also but occupancy rules held back key shows in the evening in cities dominated by the Punjabi community. These shows normally go housefull for most Punjabi releases and here they were housefull also but on the allowed occupancy.

The Punjabi film PUAADA has taken a good start across East Punjab and Delhi city though collections in East Punjab will be held back due to a limited release. The film has released on around 70 theatres only when normally it would be around 175 in East Punjab. But this second reopening of cinemas post the pandemic is about occupancy at the moment and audiences coming out and this happened with Puaada.
The film sold 2800 tickets at PVR before the release of the film which is comparable to SUFNA (2020, released a month before the lockdown). SUFNA also sold 2800 tickets at PVR before release. Here the figure for PUAADA came without three key properties including the highest collecting cinema for Punjabi films PVR Mohali and also no night shows in Delhi or Chandigarh.
The film saw good footfalls with many national chain multiplexes recording 80-100 audience counts in the morning shows while single screens and non national multiplex chains were even better as they recorded audience counts of 200 and even full houses (on allowed occupancy). There were shows in places like Patiala, Sangrur and Bhagha Purana recording collections of 25-30k which is excellent.
The limited release will hit collections but its likely more theatres will come into play over the weekend and then it could be the film will have collections which can be close to pre pandemic releases which would be a huge result for the first major release.
The release in Delhi city is normal as the 50% occupancy rule and no night shows is compensated by the film getting more shows as compared to a normal Punjabi release. If the numbers here could get to within 30-35% of a similar pre pandemic release it would be very good and a good sign for Hindi films as it will mean the audience returning in Delhi.
Overall the audience is coming and it remains to be seen where the first day number lands and then where it can over the weekend.
