On January 29, Mirror had reported that Tarun Mansukhani will direct the Hindi remake of Pierre Salvador's 2006 French film, Priceless, with Sidharth Malhotra as the barman who is mistaken for a millionaire by the gold-digging heroine.
Having finally shelved the Dostana sequel which he worked on for over five years without getting the nod from producer Karan Johar, Tarun started work on the remake of the Audrey Tatou- Gad Elmaleh starrer.
The film was then a co-production between KJo's banner and Disney UTV.
Now, Mirror has learnt that Tarun is no longer a part of the project. Revealed a source close to the development, "He was working on the script but it hasn't worked out for him. Now, even Karan has dropped out."
However, the project hasn't been shelved. Disney UTV, which has the rights for the Hindi remake, is keen to adapt it for the Indian screen but not with Tarun. "They are in talks with other directors and a name should be finalised soon."
We sent a text message to Tarun who chose not to respond.

Sources say that Sidharth Malhotra and Anushka Sharma will headline the cast in the Indian remake of the hit French film, Priceless. The film (titled Hors de Prix in French), directed by Pierre Salvadori and starring Audrey Tautou and Gad Elmaleh in the lead roles, tells the story of a young gold digger who mistakenly woos a mild-mannered bartender thinking he’s a wealthy suitor.
The Indian version will be produced by Karan Johar; this project was apparently taken up after the ambitious Dostana 2 was shelved. It will be directed by Tarun Mansukhani, the director of Dostana. But sources say that Karan Johar apparently does not approve of Tarun’s changes in the script.
A source close to the production house says, “There were some changes suggested by Tarun in the script, but Karan Johar did not like them. Later on, Tarun went ahead with some fresh changes and Karan didn’t like them either. In the meantime, Sidharth Malhotra will now start shooting for Vikramaditya Motwane’s next titled Bhavesh Joshi. This is why Tarun’s take on Priceless has been put on hold.”
Both Karan Johar and Tarun Mansukhani were unavailable for comment.

When
we met Karan Johar's discovery Sidharth Malhotra last weekend, he was in
a musical
mood. The actor was tuned into the music of his upcoming film, Ekta
Kapoor's Ek Villain and spoke excitedly about watching Mithoon, Mohd
Irfan and Shraddha Kapoor's live per formance at an event this
Wednesday. Excerpts from the conversation that followed:
Ek Villain is a radical departure for you after Student Of The Year and Hasee Toh Phasee. How did you prepare for the role?
Milap Zaveri gave me the narration and the role was initially very loud with bhaigiri lingo. This was toned down. My character in the film doesn't speak too much. A lot is conveyed through expressions. We had a workshop with Mukesh Chabbra. I worked on my look. Besides stubble, I opted for tattoos. I have short hair in one look, a patch in the other. It wasn't easy to alternate between the two looks. I was very excited that Mohit Suri is directing the film. My character in the film has many shades of Emraan Hashmi's character from his film Awarapan.
Did you face Mohit's temper on the sets?
Mohit does have a temper. In fact, Shraddha (Kapoor, his co star in Ek Villain) told me that he was a lot more on the edge when making Aashiqui 2. But yeah, the crew had to bear the brunt sometimes. But he and I never had a fight. On the contrary, we bonded rather well. We both are dog lovers and have similar taste in movies.
You are doing another Dharma film, the remake of Priceless...
Tarun Mansukhani is still writing it.
Why does he take such a long time to write? A case in point is Dostana 2.
That is for Karan and Tarun to decide. Tarun wants to make sure that the script is flawless before he takes it to the floors. He has this process of showing it to friends and taking their feedback. And then he starts working on it again. If Priceless happens, it will be only happen next year. This year, I am busy with Vikramaditya Motwane's Bhavesh Joshi and Punit Malhotra's Warriors.
You replaced Imran Khan in Bhavesh Joshi. Did you speak to him before signing it?
No.
Aren't you doing Shakun Batra's next--another film where Imran was the first choice?
I am not doing that film.
Are you both good with each other?
A few days ago, we met in a gym. There is no ego thing between Imran and I.
Looking forward to work with Akshay Kumar in Dharma's Warriors?
Definitely. Unlike us, there is a sense of calmness in senior actors. Ditto for Riteish Deshmukh (his co-star in Ek Villain).
Recently, you had three back-to-back linkups...
I knew this was coming (pauses). I think, now, people are interested in me.
More recently, Aditi Rao Hydari and you bonded at an award function in Tampa and were spotted at various hangouts in NY...
Aditi and I did hang out together, but not alone. There were friends accompanying us.
What about rumours of Shraddha and you being attracted to each other?
Shraddha is a very attractive girl. We had a great time working together in Ek Villain. That's about it.
Did you have to explain the equation to her boyfriend Aditya Roy Kapoor?
I met Aditya in Tampa. There is no bad blood between us.
And what about your recent date with Brazilian model, Izabelle Leite at a Bandra nightspot?
(Fidgets) She and I share a healthy friendship that is essential to my sanity.

Buzz is, it’s a toss-up between Alia Bhatt and Anushka Sharma to star opposite Sidharth Malhotra in Tarun Mansukhani’s remake of French director Pierre Salvadori’s 2006 film Priceless (Hors de prix), produced by Karan Johar.
A source close to Tarun told Mirror, “Karan is really impressed with Alia’s acting potential ever since he launched her in Student Of The Year. On the other hand, he is also keen to work with Anushka. Both fit the bill perfectly.”
Added the source, “Alia and Anushka are aware that Karan has them in mind. Both the girls are enthusiastic about the role and have their fingers crossed.”
After his efforts to put Dostana 2 back on track failed, Tarun has been busy with the remake in question.

A still from Priceless
Sonali Joshi Pitale (MID-DAY; January 29, 2014)
Sidharth Malhotra has been signed on by Siddharth Roy Kapur’s production house for an official remake of the French film, Priceless. A source says that the film’s producers have been looking for a relatively fresh face for quite some time now. “The lead character in the film has a lot of shades to it. Sidharth Malhotra seemed to fit into it. This venture will be co-produced by Karan Johar, who was also the producer of Siddharth’s debut film, Student Of The Year. “Given that the original earned rave reviews in 2006, Siddharth is excited about working on this film. He has already given his nod to this project and the film’s producers are currently looking to cast a leading lady opposite him.”
The French film, directed by Pierre Salvadori, starred Audrey Tautou and Gad Almaleh in lead roles. The film’s story revolves around a boy who works at a hotel and is mistaken for a millionaire by a money- grabbing girl, who then realises her gaffe.

His ambitious sequel to Dostana failed to kick off, but another love story is reportedly keeping Tarun Mansukhani busy. Buzz is, Karan Johar has commissioned him to develop the script for the Indian remake of the French hit, Priceless, with Dharma's current blueeyed boy Sidharth Malhotra in the lead.
The French original, about a waiter who's mistaken for a millionaire by a gold-digger starred Audrey Tatou and Gad Elmaleh.
Said a source close to the development, "The creative team at Dharma is really impressed by Sidharth's turn in the upcoming Hasee Toh Phasee. They feel he'll be perfect for Gad's role. However, nothing is on paper yet." Despite repeated attempts, KJo didn't reply to our text messages, while Sidharth's publicists chose to remain mum. When we called Tarun Mansukhani, he said, "Presently, I'm shooting for a commercial and not working on anything else."
However, our source insisted that the film is in indeed in the making, adding, "They are reluctant to reveal the details as things are yet to be formalised."
