Bits and pieces in my new house reflect my love for travel-Parineeti Chopra

As she moves to a new address, Parineeti Chopra on personalising her Khar residence
Mohar Basu (MID-DAY; September 28, 2019)

A Bandra resident for the past four years, Parineeti Chopra used to joke that neighbour Karan Johar's house served as a landmark for anyone heading to her pad. Now, the actor has found herself a plush new address. Turns out, Chopra — who returned from London earlier this week after wrapping up The Girl On The Train remake — directly moved into her new residence in Khar that was being readied while she was shooting in the Queen's City.

"I had been wanting a larger, warmer and homely space for some time. Since I was neck-deep in work, shooting for films and endorsements, it was difficult for me to focus on house-hunting and zero in on a place," reveals the actor. Having scoured several houses and not finding any that matches her aesthetics, she excitedly beams that it was love at first sight for her when she laid her eyes on this three-bedroom apartment on the 12th floor of a high-rise.

While she has roped in an interior designer, Chopra has also played an active role in sprucing up the pad. She has lent a personal touch to the decor by using curios and artworks that she picked up during her international trips, over the years. "I'm in love with my new pad. It's a reflection of me; bits and pieces in the house reflect my love for travel. I can't wait to show it to my friends." Guess a house-warming party is in order.

Bollywood stars are flaunting new addresses

A number of Bollywood actors are moving homes. For some, it's about privacy while others are moving out of their parents' homes and seeking independence
Rachana Dubey (BOMBAY TIMES; November 14, 2016)

There's a major 'shift' happening in Bollywood, especially among young stars. Over the past two years, several actors have changed their addresses. Very soon, a few more names will get added to the list.
For example, Alia Bhatt has recently moved out of her parents' home and shifted into a swanky apartment, along with elder sister Shaheen. As soon as he finds some time off from his busy schedule, Varun Dhawan will move into a flat in the same building as his parents in Juhu. Sushant Singh Rajput's new bachelor pad, we hear, is quirky, quiet and tastefully done up. Ranbir is also in the process of doing up his new home. Meanwhile, Priyanka Chopra, we hear, is busy scouting homes in America, since hers might be a long stay off shores.

Their reasons may vary but most of Bollywood's young brigade is flaunting new addresses. BT gives you an update...

RANBIR KAPOOR
The Kapoor boy moved out of his parents' Pali Hill bungalow, Krishnaraj, into a sea-facing duplex at Silver Sands Building on Carter Road (Bandra), along with his then girlfriend Katrina Kaif. However, after their break-up, he abandoned their love-nest to find solace in an apartment owned by his parents in a building called Wits End on Hill Road (Bandra). When Rishi and Neetu Kapoor moved in after Krishnaraj was razed, Ranbir shifted to his grandmother Krishna Raj Kapoor's house at Deonar. Soon, he'll move into his bachelor pad in a building called Vastu, which is a few minutes away from where Krishnaraj stood. Even that is likely to be a temporary arrangement. It's widely believed that when Krishnaraj is ready for occupancy, he'll go back home to mom and dad.

PARINEETI CHOPRA
Parineeti started searching for her dream home in 2014. After checking out over a dozen properties across the length and breadth of the city, she finally opted for a spacious sea-facing flat at Quantum Park, off Carter Road, in 2015. Before moving into the flat, located in the same building as Preity Zinta's, she had occupied homes on rent in Andheri. But when shooting in Andheri and nearby areas, she shifts to a rented place in the locality.

HRITHIK ROSHAN
Soon after his divorce from Sussanne Khan, Hrithik moved out of his parents' home at El Palazzo in Juhu. He is currently staying at Prime Beach Apartments, a few minutes away from where Rakesh and Pinky Roshan live. The beach-facing house, which was under renovation for more than a year, was done up in parts by John Abraham's architect brother and an American firm.

SHAHID KAPOOR
The actor had been house-hunting for more than a year before he finalised a flat at Praneta building in Juhu. It's spacious with a living room and sun-deck on the ground floor, and bedrooms and other private spaces underneath. Shahid, who was staying just a floor away from his father Pankaj Kapur in Versova's Raj Classique, moved into his swanky new pad in early 2015, a few months before he got married to Mira Rajput. While the current residence is no doubt Sasha's dream home, it is more than a mile away from where his dad resides.

ALIA BHATT
Alia has moved into her own flat recently. Located above a quaint coffee shop, it's just a few minutes away from her parents' (Soni Razdan and Mahesh Bhatt) Silver Beach Apartments home in Juhu. The house has been decorated by director Vikas Bahl's former wife Richa Dubey, with plenty of inputs from Soni. It was picked looking at the space and privacy issues faced by Alia at her parents' home.

PRIYANKA CHOPRA
PeeCee began to hunt for an independent home two years ago. The decision to move out of her parents' home in Raj Classique (Versova) came soon after her dad's demise. It took her a year to zero in on a home befitting her star status at Karmayog Apartments, Juhu. The building is tucked inside a quaint lane and offers a beautiful view of the city's landscape. However, the new house hasn't changed anything for the actress. Priyanka loves being around family. We hear, mommy, Dr Madhu Chopra often stays with her in the new pad. There are also reports of her looking for a home in the US, where she is currently shooting for a thriller series. Way to go!

SONAM KAPOOR
If everything goes as planned, Sonam could soon move into her plush duplex at Bandra Kurla Complex. The actress picked the unlikely location for privacy reasons. Signature Island, abode to the rich and famous, is located close to the American consulate, which keeps it away from prying eyes. The hitch: daddy Anil Kapoor is not too keen on his daughter leaving. Also, being a family girl, she might not want to leave the warmth of her parents' Juhu bungalow.

ANUSHKA SHARMA
Although she has a great-looking pad in Andheri, we hear, even Anushka is toying with the idea of changing homes. Apparently, she plans to move into a plush building, midtown. We don't know yet if cricketer Virat Kohli, will share the Worli pad with her.

SUSHANT SINGH RAJPUT
Break-ups can prove costly. Sushant Singh Rajput is a case in point. The actor, who shared an apartment with girlfriend Ankita Lokhande in Malad, moved out of it bag and baggage after their break-up. He now stays at Little Heights building, Bandra. Before zeroing in on the flat, he reportedly spent many days in a plush hotel suite.

KATRINA KAIF
The actress, who was residing at Guldev Sagar Apartments (Bandra), moved into Silver Sands with Ranbir. While Ranbir left after the relationship ended, Kat stayed on. A few months ago, there were rumours that she was looking for a new home, but nothing seems to have happened on that front.

Has Parineeti Chopra moved out of her Bandra home?

Hiren Kotwani (BOMBAY TIMES; September 7, 2016)

A sea-facing apartment is a dream acquisition. Parineeti Chopra, we hear, is in a state of dilemma. The actress, apparently, has momentarily moved out of her sprawling sea-facing apartment, located at one of Bandra's many plush neighbourhoods. She bought the house after scouting dozens of flats across the city's suburbs in 2015. The actress was so excited about her own home that she had personally looked into the décor of her pad. But now, we've heard that the house has not been occupied for quite a while. And she has moved into a different apartment in Andheri. A source who visited the Bandra complex recently, tells us that the brass name plate with Parineeti Chopra inscribed, has been removed from the door, with 'missed you' stickers left by gas and courier companies, dating back a few weeks.

We don't know whether she wanted to move into a new home or was it for 'vaastu' reasons. However, when contacted, Parineeti's spokespeson said that the actress has two homes, one in Bandra and the other in Andheri. And that she stays in both, depending on her work commitments and convenience.

All my life I've been preparing for this day-Parineeti Chopra

Parineeti Chopra moved into her own sea-facing apartment yesterday
Roshmila Bhattacharya (MUMBAI MIRROR; June 30, 2015)

On Monday afternoon, Parineeti Chopra finally realised a long-cherished dream of having a house of her own. She moved into a sea-facing, four-BHK apartment in Khar. Her two younger brothers, Saraj and Shivang, were around to lend a helping hand. Even mom Reena has flown down from Ambala.

"Mom is landing in 15 minutes and is going to help me set up my home. But at the moment she's clueless, she doesn't even know the colour of the curtains," chuckles the actress, who has been happily loading all her possessions into tempos and trucks since early morning. "It'll be at least four-five days before we are finished with all the unpacking. But it's going to be fun."

It has taken the independent, working girl months to find her dream house. For two hours every morning she's been inspecting property with her estate agent, at least four-five places everyday. "But I didn't get the tingle in my stomach till I stepped into this one around six months ago and immediately, instinctively, I knew this was my home," she reminisces.

She has grown up in a huge bungalow in Ambala set on four acres of land. It's surrounded by trees, flowers, fruits and vegetable gardens. "We often joke that we are living in the middle of a forest. My parents have still to get used to coming up an elevator and stepping into a four bedroom apartment which probably is the size of one of their bedrooms at home. But I have something that they can't boast of—A view of the sea," she points out.

A self-confessed water babe, Parineeti was sure she wanted a sea-facing apartment in Mumbai even though this limited her choices. "Not many of them are up for sale, but I was not going to compromise on that," she asserts.

The doting didi is also delighted that her brothers, one of whom is in Pune, will get a bedroom of their own when they are visiting Mumbai. "And now we can make as much noise as we want because there will be no landlord coming along to shush us up. We are the landlords now," she laughs.

So when's the big, fat housewarming party? That query stops the actress in her tracks, momentarily. She admits that she's not much of a party person but since everyone is expecting one, she might host a quiet dinner for a few close friends once she had settled in.

Despite her film and ad commitments, Parineeti has been working closely on the decor and refurbishments. She will put the finishing touches while she is living there. Today, the bigger thrill for her is that she can now unpack all the little knickknacks she's picked up on travels abroad.

"There are so many clocks waiting to make an appearance in my home. All my life I've been preparing for this day and finally its here," she beams, adding that her biggest treasures are her books and DVDs.

"There must be 100s of them in those cartons. I have set aside a room with wall-to-wall shelves just for them. That'll be my favourite room, a private den-cum-library."

Is there a home gym? The fitness conscious actress admits that she doesn't have one because there's there one just a few floors down. "The building comes with several amenities, including a pool. Now you know why it's irresistible!" she exclaims.

After 10 years of paying rent, having my own house feels great-Parineeti Chopra

It’s been a while since Parineeti Chopra has been seen on screen (September 2014, when Daawat-e-Ishq released) or has signed a film. But the actress is in a relaxed state of mind. Having decided not to sign films unless she absolutely loves the project, she is using her time off wisely. She took off for a vacation, and now she is putting finishing touches to her new house in Bandra.

It is a great feeling to move into your own home after living in rented apartments for a decade. For Parineeti, like it is for any other working girl, it was a sense of achievement when she could afford her own house. It’s a sea-facing apartment in Bandra, this however is not what every working girl can hope to buy some day.

Says the actress, “This house is the most exciting thing in my life currently. And it’s my most prized possession. I was dying to have my name on the nameplate outside my apartment and now that it’s finally happening, I couldn’t be happier. This is the first property I have ever owned and I am very proud of myself for having bought my own house. It’s special because it happened so soon. To be honest, I never expected it... After 10 years of paying rent, this feels great.”

Though she misses having her parents around, Pari who has been living alone since a decade, enjoys the privacy and freedom. “My parents will continue to stay in Ambala. They will visit me often, but after living by myself for so long, I am used to it. I like to come home and unwind. Just the thought of not having to deal with a landlord feels great.” She reveals that she has been involved with everything, from the colour scheme on the walls to the tiles to the floors. From the carpets to the furniture, “everything has been personally picked up by me. My mother had studied interior designing and that I guess, has rubbed off on me.”

She adds, “The furniture and lights are picked up from all over the world. It’s an eclectic mix of stuff that could be from the streets of London or custom-made by an Italian designer. I am not letting my parents give any opinion because I want this house to be exactly the way I see it. It’s my baby and I want to be responsible for everything — good or bad.”

Parineeti is very clear about wanting her space to be clutter-free. Her home is in a minimalistic style, with not much furniture, “I am just keeping it calm and peaceful. Not going overboard with anything. But I am a voracious reader and have over a 1,000 books, so a library is a must,” Pari explains. And what about a big fat housewarming party? “I know housewarming parties are fun, but I actually haven’t thought about that at all. Once I move in, I will have the time to think. Right now, my focus is on what cushion covers to pick and what window shades to choose.”
