PADMAAVAT saw the first crack in its collections on Thursday as it collected 10.25 crore nett but still the film has done excellent business over its first extended week of 159.50 crore nett. The film is a SUPER HIT film even though it has lost around 27% over the eight days due to exhibitors in some states refusing to screen the film.

The film would have had collections of 217 crore nett in its extended first week if it was played across the country at least with the potential to be higher if Gujarat over performed. There is no major competition this week and PADMAAVAT will dominate the box office in its second week but the drop on Friday must not be too much if it is to reach 250 crore nett. The film had a landing cost of 215 crore which is the highest ever and despite this sum being a huge risk considering the cast it will end up making around 50 crore.

PADMAAVAT continued its rock steady run on Wednesday with collections of 12.25 crore nett which has taken the film to close to 150 crore nett and the extended first week should go over the 160 crore nett mark..

These figures are coming with a quarter of the all India market not playing the film at the moment and on normal weekday ticket rates at multiplexes. Many big films keep enhanced ticket rates over the weekdays. The Thursday to Friday drop will be crucial to determine where the can go and whether it can reach 250 crore nett or go even higher. PADMAAVAT did very well on its first Tuesday with business of 13.25 crore nett and this figure has come with normal weekday ticket rates. The drop from the previous day is around 7% which is excellent. In the North the collections are better than day one at many centers.

The film which took a huge start in Mumbai and South is now holding best in the North. Mumbai is also outstanding but the holds are less than North due to the better start. PADMAAVAT had a very strong hold on Monday as it recorded business of 14.25 crore nett. The drop is just 20% from the first day but this could have been even less if ticket rates did not drop like with TIGER ZINDA HAI which kept enhanced rates over the weekdays.

The film has now grossed 124 crore nett and is looking to end its extended first week at around 160 crore nett. It held best in Delhi NCR and East Punjab with collections being better than Thursday at many centers in these areas. This is because the film not open huge in these two markets. In Mumbai city and Pune, it is heading to be highest grosser of all time outside BAAHUBALI 2: THE CONCLUSION.

PADMAAVAT recorded a huge extended opening weekend of 110 crore nett as it added around 30 crore nett on Sunday. The figure has come in four days plus paid previews but with film unable to play at many places over the weekend the real value for the business till date is around 145 crore nett.

It is likely to hold very well as Mumbai and South were off too a flyer and the collections in East Punjab and Delhi/UP were higher on Sunday than the national holiday on Friday which suggests the North market has come on board after a slow start. The film did not show big growth on Sunday as many of the areas which record high occupancy on Sunday are not screening PADMAAVAT.

The film will hold on Monday and is sure to do over 200 crore and be a HIT film but the question is how well can Monday hold which will give an idea of how far the film can go. The business of PADMAAVAT till date is as follows.

PADMAAVAT has grossed in the 18 crore nett range on day one. The film would have opened at around 26-27 crore nett if it was a clean release but the reason why it did not get a clean release is the huge controversy around it and that is what gave it a 26-27 crore nett potential. At the end of the day whatever extra hype the controversy gave the film, it has taken back with the non screening in places, maybe even more.

The film has done excellent business in Mumbai and Nizam/Andhra. The apprx numbers around India are as follows.

In Overseas its pretty clear that Gulf will take a toll in the film which is the biggest overseas market for most films, the opening is not too strong here for such a huge film ($375k) and the reports are also so so which will limit its prospects. Australia (a$367k) was a record as both major chains of the country played when normally it is one and United Kingdom with £100k was also good.

PADMAAVAT did excellent business on its second day as it grossed 31 crore nett apprx thanks to the national holiday. It is not a huge number for a holiday but considering the film is not playing at many places the actual value of this number is around 40-41 crore nett. The business of the film till date is 52.50 crore nett and the real battle will start now.

The film looks to be on a huge run in Mumbai, South and West Bengal with Delhi and Punjab under performing. Gujarat is the missing part of the jigsaw as that circuit alone would have taken this film to another level. The next two days are important and a total of around 100 crore nett in its extended weekend put the film in a solid position despite the release problems.

PADMAAVAT has emerged a huge winner at the box office as it grossed 27.50 crore nett on Saturday to take its three day total to 80.50 crore nett including paid previews. The film did not even drop in Delhi city and East Punjab after the big national holiday as these circuits have come on board in a huge way which is a first for a Bhansali film.

The film could now go anywhere as now the content has worked and its getting the numbers whereas initially it was external factors. The film is a universal winner which means the circuits not playing would also have been doing optimum business. It is that first huge blockbuster in the 20 odd career of Sanjay Leela Bhansali but whether the blockbuster numbers come is another matter as the film is not being allowed to do its maximum business. Slowly more places are opening up but still a lot of potential business is missing.

Normally Sunday growth would be huge for the film but here the big growth areas of Gujarat, Rajasthan and CI are not playing and other huge growth areas like UP and Bihar are not at full potential. The business of PADMAAVAT till date is as follows.
