Bajrangi Bhaijaan may bring anoyjer 1-2 lakh people to the theatres and the footfalls will end at a little below 3.55 crore which is the second highest since 2000 beating films like PK, 3 Idiots and Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham.

The run of the film also shows how important a clear run is for a big total because as soon the competition started to come the film, the drops started. Its very unlikely this record will be broken in the nest couple of years unless a films gets a three week clear run. After the next couple of years the initial business should be much higher and so two weeks may be sufficient to challenge the PK total.

The multiplex business is extraordinary. PK is the first film to cross 200 crore nett from all India multiplexes as the final multiplex total is set for a huge 275 crore nett and distributor share of nearly 125 crore.

TEVAR grossed around 4.25 crore nett in week two taking its total to around 36 crore nett. FLOP

ALONE grossed a little over 17 crore nett in its first week. The weekend was low and weekdays held steady on low collections. There are two main releases today which will put and end to ALONE's run. The film may just squeeze past 20 crore nett but with the genre mainly depending on Indian theatrical for recovery it has no chance of recovery.

I, dubbed from the Tamil film of the same name, grossed 9.50 crore nett in Hindi which is also very poor. The film may end up at 11-12 crore nett but that is half the total of ROBOT that released in 2010.

CRAZY CUKKAD FAMILY and SHARAFAT GAYI TEL LENE were washouts with the formet being the better of the two.

The top five worldwide grossers now are PK, DHOOM 3, CHENNAI EXPRESS, 3 IDIOTS and KICK.

The Mumbai total for the film is over 103 crore nett and the Delhi/UP total has crossed 65 crore net.

Meanwhile, UGLY will do a lifetime business of around 6.25 crore nett. FLOP

Although the collections of PK are less than TEVAR, at the start of the week it will cut into its lead over the week and it could be that fifth week of PK and second of TEVAR are in the same range.

The film will beat the previous record in Mumbai by around 32% while in Delhi/UP it will set a record by a similar margin.

TEVAR grossed around 33.25 crore nett in its first week as it got a little help from the partial holidays in the weekdays. The best business has come in Delhi/UP where it has grossed around 7 crore nett as UP was tax free in the weekdays.

Overall the performance is poor as multiplexes did not collect well and single screens are also not as good as they should be for this type of film. Single screens in UP have average figures for the first week but that is due to the film being tax free, they were low on Friday and Saturday.

There are no major releases this week but a few a films are releasing and that coupled with a poor first week performance means a big drop of screen time and the film can't expect to go much higher than the 40 crore nett mark for lifetime business.

The business of PK will go over 331 crore nett after its fourth week and is now heading for a lifetime total of 337 crore nett.

TEVAR had a low Monday as it collected around 3.50 crore nett. The film has grossed 25 crore nett in four days and is looking at a first week of around 32-33 crore nett.  The first four days collections are as follows.

Sunday - 8,15,00,000
Monday - 3,50,00,000 (early estimate)
Total - 25,15,00,000

The drop is around 50% from Friday but the film has been helped by a tax free status in UP where collections have held up well due to this. The drop in Delhi/UP on Monday is around 30-35% compared to much bigger drop in the rest of the country.

The collections are down around 70% from last week but still its the second highest fourth weekend ever after 3 Idiots.

TEVAR could not make much of an impact as it grossed around 21.25 crore nett in its first weekend. The first weekend collections are as follows.

The film managed an average start at some places but the trnding was not good as the film failed to grow on Saturday and the growth on Sunday was not what it should be.

The producers have made good money as the film is not a big budget one but distributors will lose due a heavy price tag. On the budget of the film, a 21.25 crore nett weekend is not that bad

The film is likely to cross the 325 crore nett mark on Sunday and lifetime is expected to finish in the 335-340 crore nett range. The distributor share will be a huge 165 crore approx.

UGLY grossed 2.25 crore nett in week two which is poor but it did not drop much from the first week which grossed 3.25 crore nett. The trend was good with only a 30% drop but the film has very low numbers and is not going anywhere unless this trend continues for a few weeks which is unlikely. FLOP

The collections did slow towards the end of the third week at many places but that is expected considering the run it has had for the last few weeks. The lifetime total should finish around the 340 crore nett mark..

The film will gross around 41.50 crore nett in week three breaking the 30.50 crore nett record of 3 Idiots for the third week.

The third week will see the film doing its best business in Delhi/UP grossing around 10 crore nett which is less than 50% fall from last week. Mumbai circuit will see a 65% drop.

The third week should go to a little over 40 crore nett and the total business in three weeks will be around 320 crore nett. On Monday the business in Delhi/UP was higher than Mumbai for the first time since release.

The third weekend is a record and the third week will also set a record with a 40 crore nett plus total. The film may now go and touch the 350 crore nett mark..

The lifetime business of the film is looking to finish in the 330-340 crore nett range with a distributor share of 160-165 crore.

The records will be more difficult to come by now. It can get a new third week record which stands at a little over 30 crore nett but it will difficult to beat this record by the margin it achieved the second week record.

PK has now become the highest grossing film of all time in the domestic market in just 13 days. The top five all time grossers are as follows:

1. PK - 263 crore (13 days)
2. Dhoom 3 - 261 crore
3. Kick - 212 crore
4. Chennai Express - 208 crore
5. 3 Idiots - 201 crore

PK grossed 181.56 crore nett in week one and has grossed 81.25 crore nett apprx in six days of its second week. The film will cross 275 crore nett in two weeks.

NO ONE CAN STOP PK!

I have discussed in the past few weeks how 2014 hasn’t been great, especially the last couple of months. The pile of flops increased with each passing week. The much-awaited PK too didn’t have a record opening as such. However, it picked up gradually and dramatically and sustained beautifully in the weekdays. It rocked on Christmas day and in the second weekend too, it refused to slide down! What’s more, the collections even in the weekdays of 2nd week are rock solid. This is despite the fact that the film has crossed 250 crore, meaning it has been seen by almost everyone. However, the film is attracting repeat audiences (which happened in the case of 3 Idiots as well) and no wonder that the film is on a record-breaking spree! It’ll hopefully break the Dhoom 3 record (260-261 crore approx) today or maybe tomorrow morning and will then become the biggest grosser of Indian Cinema!

Another thing to be noted is that, some religious groups have raised objection to certain scenes in the film which they have found offensive. There were even reports of theatres getting vandalized. Such cases can spread fear and prevent audiences from coming to theatres. But in case of PK, there has been no significant drop in the numbers!

PK in my opinion is one of the best films in recent times and that it’s having such a dream run is very heartening to know. Here’s hoping the film earns much more at the box office and wins many more hearts!
