With Abhishek having wrapped up the shoot of the Oththa Seruppu Size 7 remake, director R Parthiban keen to show the final product to Bachchan

Since mid-August, Abhishek Bachchan has been quietly shooting for R Parthiban’s Hindi remake of Oththa Seruppu Size 7 (2019) in Chennai. On Sunday, the actor wrapped up the solo-performance film that follows the protagonist who is the primary suspect in a murder case. While the original Tamil movie was widely acclaimed on its release, the adaptation — tentatively titled SSS7 — appears to have found an admirer in Amitabh Bachchan.
A trade source reveals that the megastar saw some rushes of the thriller when his actor-son had flown down to Mumbai, in late August, for a surgery. “After the shoot was wrapped up over the weekend, Amitabh and the director got together on a video call. The veteran actor congratulated Parthiban for his vision, and the experimental treatment of the film,” reveals the source.
Abhishek has been deeply invested in the project from the word go — the actor had flown down to Chennai to initiate talks of a remake, even coming on board as a producer. The source adds, “The edgy film is a departure from Abhishek’s previous outings. He has worked hard on the role, shedding his star image to embrace the part.”
Now that the thriller is on the edit table, Parthiban is eager to show the final product to Bachchan. “I worked as an associate director to K Bhagyaraj on Aakhree Raasta [1986], and have been a great fan of Amitabh ji. I want to see his reaction to SSS7,” says the director.
He also wants to show his upcoming Tamil movie, Iravin Nizhal to the megastar. “It is a one-shot film with a runtime of one-hour-35-minutes. He liked the introduction piece composed by A R Rahman.”

Abhishek acquires rights of Tamil solo-act thriller Oththa Seruppu Size 7; kicks off shoot in Chennai with R Parthiban who helmed and starred in the original
Upala KBR (MID-DAY; August 18, 2021)
Over the past week, rumours were rife that Abhishek Bachchan is set to feature in the Hindi adaptation of Tamil thriller Oththa Seruppu Size 7 (2019). Now, it has come to light that the actor — who recently kicked off the shoot in Chennai — has so much faith in the material that he is not only headlining the remake, but also backing it under his banner.
Like cinephiles across the country, Bachchan was blown away by R Parthiban’s experimental movie, and immediately expressed his interest in taking it to Hindi film viewers. “The project is Abhishek’s baby. From flying down to Chennai to initiate talks, to setting up the production infrastructure, he has been thoroughly involved. Parthiban, who is helming the remake, will retain the gritty flavour of the original, but will tweak it to appeal to the pan-India audience,” says a trade source.
When it released, Oththa Seruppu Size 7 — written, directed and headlined by Parthiban — was widely praised for its solo-performance theme. The thriller, which follows the protagonist as he is interrogated by police officials in connection to a murder case, bagged two National Awards. Last year, the director was said to reimagine his story with Nawazuddin Siddiqui, but it didn’t materialise. Cut to present day: Bachchan and Parthiban are shooting at a brisk pace, intending to wrap it in a single schedule.
“Abhishek is sporting a distinct look. Cell phones aren’t allowed on the set as they want to keep details of the project under wraps.”
Bachchan and Parthiban remained unavailable for comment.
