Niharica Kumari Raizada, the Luxembourg-bred granddaughter of late music composer O P Nayyar, had packed her bags to return home after eight years of false starts in Bollywood, when she landed her big break. The aspiring actress is set to feature in Indra Kumar’s comedy Total Dhamaal that has Ajay Devgn, Anil Kapoor, Madhuri Dixit, Boman Irani, Arshad Warsi, Riteish Deshmukh, Ashish Chowdhry and Javed Jaffrey in central characters. “Most of my scenes are with Arshad but it’s an ensemble cast so I will be shooting with all my co-stars. Ajay Devgn is known as an intense actor but his comic timing is extremely good and it is amazing to see Anil Kapoor and Madhuri Dixit together again,” she gushes.
Besides featuring in small roles in films like Neeraj Ghaywan’s Masaan and the Bipasha Basu-starrer Alone, Niharica has also worked behind the scenes. “While studying in the UK, I worked as an assistant with directors like Shekhar Kapur, Vipul Shah and Jagmohan Mundra. My biggest project was London Dreams,” she informs, adding that she has also served as a body double in Priyadarshan’s Bhagam Bhag.
Recounting her earliest memories of her legendary grandfather, Niharica says, “I recall seeing iconic singers like Lata ji (Mangeshkar) to Asha ji (Bhosle) performing at my grand aunt’s Delhi home. My family told me stories of my grandfather playing the harmonium on the terrace of his family home in Amristar when he was five years old. Nobody knew how he learnt to play but people from all over the city would come to see him perform. Everyone remembers him as extremely disciplined. If a recording was scheduled for 8am, he would refuse to work if people showed up even three minutes late,” she signs off.

BOMBAY TIMES (August 24, 2016)
Hollywood director Param
Gill's Bollywood debut Waarrior Savitri has landed him in trouble. The
film, scheduled for release in India and the US on August 25, has
apparently received backlash for its depiction of the Hindu goddess
(Savitri) as a modern, 21st-century woman. Effigies bearing the image of
Gill have been reportedly burnt in Raipur, Ludhiana and a few places in
India. We hear, Gill has also received threats and his personal website
was hacked recently. Religious fundamentalists have assumed
the film to be a Western influence on an important character from
mythology, thus diluting its message. In the trailer, the goddess is shown practicing martial arts to combat her enemies. Savitri, played by Niharica Raizada, depicts sexual intimacy in
certain portions and will be seen wearing bold outfits in the film,
which is set in Las Vegas.
Speaking from Los Angeles, Gill says, “I was inspired by the Nirbhaya case. I think women need to empower themselves. They should learn martial arts for self-defence.“
Gill and lead actress Lucy Pinder were set to board the flight for Mumbai from LA to promote the film. But fearing security issues, they chose not to. “It's frustrating to not be able to come to India to promote my first Bollywood film,“ says Pinder.

Garima Sharma (BOMBAY TIMES; November 13, 2014)
Music and performing arts
run in her family. So, when Niharica Raizada, veteran
musician OP Nayyar's granddaughter, decided to pursue acting, her choice seemed obvious to
many. For Niharica (a doctor by qualification), it was a giant leap of
faith to quit medicine and pursue her tinseltown dreams. However, as
she now gets ready for her debut film 6-5=2, the dimpled beauty knew she
took the right call.
The film, which is set in the found footage genre, sees Niharica play the role of a model named Priya. She says, “It's an edge-of-the-seat entertainer, very slick, like the Blair Witch Project. I play the lead. The story is about six people who go on a trek but their adventure goes haywire and turns into a horror. It's truly thrilling.“
While acting is her calling, the multi-faceted actress has also won two pageants in the past. She was crowned Miss India UK 2010 and was the first runner-up of Miss India Worldwide 2011. She is also a trained dancer and singer. “It's a family tradition to be trained in the performance arts. But, my calling lies in front of the camera as opposed to behind it. I like to be in the limelight and acting is what I want to do.“
In the future, Niharica says she'd love to work with Prabhu Dheva since she is a dancer. She adds, “I'd also love to work with real directors. If I have to do a purely commercial film, my dream is to work with Sanjay Leela Bhansali. It reminds me of my grandfather. His work was so sensual. I feel like the product of my grandfather's songs and would love to showcase Indian sensuality through my work.“
With Luxembourg as her place of birth, French as her mother-tongue and acting training from the New York Film Academy, Niharica represents a coming together of the East and the West, but for the actress, her Indian roots count the most. “As someone from a film family, I have known the industry for a very long time. Young talent like us combines tradition with modern ideas to bring something new to the table and people must support us.“
