Nawazuddin Siddiqui is elated to represent India at the ‘mecca of cinema’, Cannes

For actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui, it appears like the ninth time is the charm. After making eight trips to the previous editions of the Cannes Film Festival, he has been invited this year, for the first time, by the Government of India. He walked the red carpet on May 17.
What’s more? The actor will ring in his birthday there on May 19. Ask him if that makes the day even more memorable and the 47-year-old says, “Representing India is always special — be it on my birthday or any other day. I have spent five-six of my birthdays at Cannes, as it’s held around the same time every year. I am not a person who celebrates birthdays as such. It’s just like a normal day.”
His earliest memory of the festival is when two of his films, Gangs Of Wasseypur and Miss Lovely (both 2012), made the rounds there.
“It’s the mecca of cinema. Wahan chaaron taraf acche cinema ki baat hoti hai, box office collection ki baat nahin hoti. Hum jo collection ki baatein kar kar ke cinema dekh rahe hain na aaj kal....Wahan uski baat nahin hoti,” shares the actor.
Does he feel that most of our good films don’t get noticed enough in our country, but a screening or award at an international film festival gets the buzz going? Siddiqui says that it doesn’t happen even then. “Hamare yahaan tab bhi notice nahin karte, even after the films get recognition outside. Uske baad bhi hamare yahan uss tarah ki films ko screening nahin milti. I have a film, No Land's Man (2021). It’s going to the Sydney Film Festival. Can you believe that no OTT platform is ready to take that film? It’s such a fast, beautiful film. Cinema mein release karna toh door ki baat hai. I feel so disheartened,” he ends.

The actors have started shooting for the final schedule of the Khiladi Kumar’s upcoming reincarnation comedy on a Mumbai set

Mirror had earlier reported (May 9) that Nawazuddin Siddiqui is joining Akshay Kumar, Kriti Sanon, Riteish Deshmukh, Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol and Kriti Kharbanda at a city studio to shoot for a special song in Housefull 4. On Monday, the actor who plays a baba living in a den with 300 disciples in the sequence, started shooting for his portion with the team at Film City.According to a source close to the development, it’s “more of a proper role than a mere song appearance”. “As an exorcist he brings an important twist in the plot. On the first day of the shoot, Nawaz shot for his conversational scenes with the cast in his special look which requires a lot of make-up. The schedule will go on for another four days,” the source revealed, adding that the day ended on a sweet note as producer Sajid Nadiadwala and director Farhad Samji joined the cast to celebrate Nawazuddin’s 45th birthday with a cake.
Informing that the sequence is mounted on a big scale, the source added, “The set-up features hundreds of fake skulls, some of which were used by the designing team to construct a throne. The three-storey building which is the residence of Nawaz’s character has been designed with a lot of attention to detail.”
Ganesh Acharya has been roped in to choreograph the song which the team will start filming today. “The song is a part of the narrative, and it features over 500 background dancers with Akshay, Nawaz and the others taking centerstage,” the source revealed.
On Monday, Akshay, who also had a visitor in cricketer-friend Shikhar Dhawan on the set, shared a picture with the caption, “HouseFull of Thrones. Who Lives, Who Dies… Only the Script Decides,” fueling speculation that the makers are parodying the hit American show Game of Thrones with their song. However, the source denied it, saying, “No, there’s nothing on those lines. It’s a fun song, and Akshay probably used the GoT reference as the entire world was discussing the finale.”
The reincarnation comedy is divided between two eras—modern and ‘Baahubali’, which is inspired by the SS Rajamouli hit. Primary shoot of the film wrapped up with the latter era in the UK in July last year while the flashbacks were canned in Rajasthan (September, 2018) and on a Mumbai set in October 2018. “With the ongoing shoot, a team is working on postproduction to have it ready for a Diwali 2019 release as it is high on visual effects and Sajid doesn’t want to compromise on the scale,” the source signed off.

celebrated his birthday yesterday in Kashmir on the set of
Bajrangi Bhaijaan with Salman Khan and team. What doubled the
celebration was the birth of his second child - a son, coinciding with
his birthday.
Nawaz's wife Aaliya delivered the baby boy in Jabalpur, where her parents reside. An ecstatic Nawaz said, “I got to know about my baby on Tuesday morning, soon after he was born at 10 am. I wish I could be with my wife but I'm hoping to reach Mumbai soon and head to Jabalpur to be with her.“
The mother had a normal delivery and both she and the child are healthy said the actor. The couple hasn't decided upon the name for their son as yet. The proud father of two, said, “My daughter, who is five-years-old now, is called Shora - Urdu name describing intellectuals involved in translations of religious books. So I guess even my son will mostly have an Urdu name.“

Nawazuddin Siddiqui's wife Anjali ensured that the actor's 41st birthday will be unforgettable. She delivered a baby boy early on May 19 to make it a double celebration. The couple already are the proud parents of a six-year-old daughter Shora.
Mirror connected with the actor at Srinagar airport, minutes before he was to board a flight to Mumbai from where he would proceed to his wife's home in Jabalpur to be with his family. Nawaz has been filming Kabir Khan's Bajrangi Bhaijaan in the Valley and fortunately for him the shoot wrapped up on Monday.
"Late at night we had a party to bring in my birthday. My son hadn't entered the world then but Salman who loves children and is like an elder brother to me, gave me his blessings and told me to convey his regards to my wife. I have yet to tell Kabir, Kareena and him the good news," said an elated Nawaz who when quizzed on the baby's name admitted he's still trying to figure out something nice. "My wife and I will think of one together. I couldn't have asked for a better birthday gift. From now on there will be double celebrations in the family on this day."
Meanwhile, the good times continue for Nawaz and his family. A 17-minute short, Miyan Kal Aana, which he has produced and his brother, Shamas Nawab Siddiqui, has directed, will be screened at the Cannes Film Festival in the Short Film Corner category on May 23. As Mirror (April 15) had earlier reported, the film looks at the controversial Halala law in Islam and questions its treatment of women.
According to thelaw, if a Muslim man wants to remarry his divorced wife, he has to get her married to another man who will then have to divorce her, before theycan be reunited.
