The movie Fashion was one of the major culprits behind showstoppers getting more importance at fashion show-Mugdha Godse

Kanksha Vasavada (BOMBAY TIMES; November 14, 2025)

“I believe Fashion was one of the major culprits behind showstoppers getting more importance at fashion shows,” smiles Mugdha Godse, as we ask her about the ongoing discussion regarding celebrity showstoppers stealing the spotlight over models at fashion shows. The model-turned-actress, who was in Ahmedabad recently for an event, talks about the changing scenario in the fashion industry, her journey as a devotional artiste and more.

‘Showstoppers bring a little drama to fashion shows’
Talking about celebrity showstoppers, Mugdha elaborates, “I believe fashion shows need a dramatic ending nowadays, and celebrity showstoppers bring that. Our fashion shows are very different, as we need Bollywood for everything. And it is working—for us as employment, for brands with their sales, and for people who can see the latest designs as well as the showstopper. So, it’s a win-win for all. In the end, the clothes are the heroes.”

‘OTT has come as a new beginning for us’
The Fashion actress, who has done web shows like Bloody Brothers and The Broken News, feels OTT has disrupted the definition of “a perfect character.” She says, “OTT has increased the scope for actors, and it shows more real characters too. There is never somebody so perfect, like we used to see in saas-bahu shows on TV. There is always a grey side to everyone in real life. OTT has shown it, and I want to do such characters.”

She adds, “Today, the best part is that there are stories for every artiste and every kind of audience. Whether you are in your 40s or even 60s, there are many stories to tell, which is a great opportunity for artistes of all age groups. OTT has come as a new beginning for us.”

‘I get to explore my spirituality through singing’
Mugdha, who made her singing debut with Krsna Vandana (an original composition featuring 108 names and qualities of Lord Krishna) last year, says, “I wouldn’t call myself a singer, as it is too much of a responsibility. Our singers have worked so hard to reach where they are. I tell everyone that I am an artiste who has found a beautiful bhaav in singing. I get to explore my spirituality in a different manner.”

Is she keen on exploring more projects as a singer? She says, “I would like to keep it devotional. I won’t say no if I am offered any other song in playback, but I won’t be performing it at a concert. For Krsna Vandana, we do performances, more like baithaks, in different cities. That feeling is different. If I want to explore my journey as a singer, it will be in that (devotional) space.”

‘Modelling industry isn’t as distinguished as before’
Talking about how the modelling industry has changed, Mugdha shares, “Modelling isn’t as distinguished as a platform as it was during my days. There are a lot of platforms available for models. Also, the harsh truth is that an influencer posting a reel is making more money than a model walking the ramp, which shows a massive shift in the industry.”

She adds, “Making reels isn’t easy either; both things require hard work. So, it all comes down to one’s choices. There are still people who love to walk the ramp just for that high we get. But modelling isn’t a separate career anymore.”

Sharing her love for the city, Mugdha who has often visited the city, says, "I love Ahmedabad and always enjoy coming here, as the city surprises me every time. This time, I saw a global coffee brand’s name written in Gujarati. It is there in Maharashtra too, but it has started happening here too, which is so good. From modern infrastructure to rooted culture, this city has everything for everyone."

On asking if she would like to work with Rahul Dev (her partner) in a project now, Mugdha shares, "Rahul and I have just wrapped up a show. As individuals, we have very strong personalities, which might be visible on the screen too. So, we usually get scripts where our characters are not involved romantically. We are offered characters which may or may not be related."

Onscreen kiss between same sex actors will never be normalized-Mugdha Godse

‘Onscreen kiss between same-sex actors will never be normalised’

Titas Chowdhury (HINDUSTAN TIMES; April 17, 2022)

Onscreen representation of homosexuality might have become a frequent phenomenon in Hindi films and web shows, but the hoopla surrounding it doesn’t seem to wane off. Needless to say, actor Mugdha Godse’s onscreen kiss with her co-actor Shruti Seth in the web series Bloody Brothers, which released last month, grabbed the attention of many.

“Anything like this will never be normalized,” sighs Godse, adding, “I knew it would be the talk of the town. So, making it look good was my aim.”

Ask her if she had any apprehension about shooting for the scene and she says, “There were many mixed feelings initially to perform the scene. But eventually, we became comfortable and got into our characters. Shruti had rightly said, ‘performance triumphed discomfort’.”

Godse, however, shares that she isn’t open to doing bold scenes that are intended to only grab eyeballs. “In our cinema, many makers put bold scenes to amp up the masala quotient. Very few do it with real aesthetic sense,” she says, adding, “I’m not up for nudity or too many bold scenes. Comfort is important while performing any scene.”

And while filming such intimate scenes, being surrounded by a safe and trustworthy crew is paramount for the 35-year-old. “For instance, in Bloody Brothers, our crew was not only trustworthy, but super helpful and kind, too. Shaad (Ali, director) knew what exactly he wanted and he designed the scene [in such a way that] discomfort took a back seat,” she elaborates.

With the changing landscape in the Indian content scenario, Godse’s glad that filmmakers are ready to accept actors like her in lead roles. “My priorities as an actor remain the same. What have changed are cinema and the film industry. Tall, dusky and non-commercial faces are not cast as vamps only today,” she signs off.

Marriage is a beautiful institution, but it may not be for everyone-Mugdha Godse

What Mugdha Godse Said About Her Age Gap With Boyfriend Rahul Dev

Bishwabijoy Mitra (BOMBAY TIMES; August 2, 2021)

Life has been like a beautiful holiday for model-turned-actress Mugdha Godse during the last one year. The actress, who was in Kolkata to shoot a bilingual film recently, not only enjoyed staying at home, working out, binge-watching and indulging in occasional social media lives, but, according to her, it was also probably the best time she has spent with her partner, actor Rahul Dev. Excerpts from a chat..

You have been in a live-in relationship with Rahul for over seven years now. How do you tackle those uncomfortable personal questions about marriage and relationships?
Due to our profession, people would ask such questions about our lives. We are both happy in our space. I think being happy is more important than signing a piece of paper. Marriage is a beautiful institution, but it may not be for everyone. So, when people ask me, I be honest, as I’ve seen honesty is the best policy. Rahul and I are both busy with our work and we share so many common things despite our differences. I am a morning person and he is a night person, but I think our struggle and profession bind us together. We are both first-generation actors from middle-class families, so we share similar views of life and backgrounds. Besides, we follow a spiritual guru and that is another way to bond.

Both Rahul and you have been into fitness. Tell us about your workout regimes.
To me, Rahul and fitness are almost synonymous. He has been sporting a six-pack since the time it was not even a trend, but a novelty in Bollywood. On the other hand, being a model and actor, I too have to follow a strict fitness regime. However, our fitness regime and exercises are completely different. I am more into ashtanga yoga, while Rahul is into gym-oriented exercises. But we like to discuss and talk about it.

What did the pandemic teach you? Any new skills you’ve picked up last year?
A lot. Even though we were having a good time at home, Rahul and I were particularly bothered about the household chores. However, we managed somehow. I have learnt that nothing is greater than the blessing of God.

When there’s a crisis, neither money nor contacts can save you.
During the lockdown, I also started cooking for the first time and did all the household work. I learnt to cook quite a few Punjabi dishes and I am getting better at it.

You mentioned about creating some social media content during the lockdown. During that time, social media had become quite volatile and controversial. How did you approach it?
We should always remember that whatever we say, influences a lot of people. So, when you are saying something you better make sense and you must believe in it. It’s okay to raise your voice against something, but it is also important to keep quiet unless required to do so otherwise.

So many actors were under tremendous mental pressure during the lockdown due to dearth of work. How did you cope with it?
I am the kind of person who keeps her plan-B ready for every situation. So, frustration doesn’t come to me so easily. And then I have my yoga and spiritual classes, which helped me a lot.

Since Fashion in 2008, how much has the industry changed?
Both technologically and content-wise, the Indian film industry has come a long way since 2008. Because of the OTT platforms, the fine line between commercial cinema and art films is disappearing. Films like Thappad and Pink are being made. Now almost every other film revolves around a woman. And I am glad to be a part of the industry at this point.

Salman Khan is entitled to his opinion-Mugdha Godse

And Rahul Dev’s fiancée Mugdha Viera Godse has a few of her own, some contrary ones, too!
Upala KBR (DNA; November 28, 2016)

Bigg Boss 10 host Salman Khan recently called out the show’s celebrity contestants — Rahul Dev, in particular — for being ‘boring’ and ‘lazy’ and performing tasks ‘pathetically’. Rahul took the tongue-lashing to heart, even getting into an argument with Om Swami. His fiancée Mugdha Veira Godse tells us why she feels Salman’s advice was unwarranted and why she feels Rahul did nothing wrong.

How do you find Rahul on Bigg Boss?
He is settling in, but I know his discomfort. For him, this is work and he is giving his 100 per cent to it... I do get emotional and miss him a lot, but not during Bigg Boss hour.

Salman chided him for lazing around. Your take?
I didn’t see that episode. I saw all the updates on Twitter. Having said that, I want to add that Salman is entitled to his opinion. I agree with what Rahul is doing. I feel it’s better to stay put than getting into other’s business and start a fight for no reason. The format of the show is to be interactive, only fighting and yelling is not entertainment and jokes; fun, tasks, emotions, friendship bonding laughter too, offer entertainment. And everybody (Rohan Mehra and Karan Mehra) called ‘lazy’ by Salman were very active in their tasks. Rahul, too!

Does Rahul help around the house?
He likes to relax at home since we have long hours of shooting schedules. Plus, he is not at all a kitchen guy, anyway. Rahul doesn’t even know how to boil water, but he loves his clothes and washes them personally and cleans the house. He hates clutter and his aesthetic sense is amazing!

How is Rahul’s personality in real life?
He is an honourable man, always very calm and composed. What I love about him is that he is as straightforward as it can get. He is very clear and focused in his thoughts and acts. There is no confusion in his head about anything. He knows what he wants. Rahul is my center of gravity and my fashion meter...

Do you think he can win?
He definitely can, but Lopamudra, Gaurav and Manu are strong contenders, too. I doubt he would like to go down that road just for a win...

Was it a bad decision for him to go on the show?
No, no, not at all! People have only seen the calm side of him. The angry and funny side to him he is gradually revealing. Rahul can be extremely humorous and his fight with Om Baba showed us that. Even saying tatti jalebi… humoured all of us and made us laugh.

Why did Rahul go on the show? Was it for his son’s education?
He has his reasons and yes, one of them, was his son Siddharth’s education. He is studying abroad and Rahul needs the money to support his education.

Would you go on Bigg Boss?
Never! I am an extremely emotional person and will be worse than Mona. I will just go on crying and only crying (laughs)… It’s not my cup of tea at all. I can’t retaliate or fight like they do on the show. I used to be like that but not anymore as I am into yoga, meditation and spiritualism. But then again — you can never say never!

What do you think of the other contestants? Who is your favourite apart from Rahul?
My favourite was Lokesh. I found her very clean-hearted but came across as yedi. It’s a Marathi term for a ‘sweet fool’. She may not be able to speak well and come across as weird but I know how it is when you lack words to express yourself. I’m from a Marathi medium school and it took me a lot to learn English and Hindi fluently so I can understand what she went through... The rest — Bani, Gaurav, Rohan and Karan are good. On Om Swami I will say no comments. The rest of the housemates I couldn’t care much to watch as I find them all noise makers.

When are you and Rahul getting married?
Do you mean when are we signing the legal paper for our relationship? (laughs) Because I feel married in my head already... I don’t know when we will sign the piece of paper to legalise our relationship. For me, it’s just a formality. Marriage, to me, is just a legal bond.

What are you working on now?
I’m working on two web series and both have interesting concepts. I am looking for good content on TV. I want to do good roles. Cinema is changing and I would like to be part of that change as well. Films-wise, I am yet to find a script which really can tap me as an actress. Post Fashion, I haven’t found any.
