After over two years of togetherness, Shruti Haasan and her Italian boyfriend Michael Corsale have called it quits. Even though the couple was discreet with the media, their social media PDA documented the relationship which began in late 2016. The duo brought in the year together with a bunch of friends in Los Angeles and on January 28, when she turned 33, Michael wished “his darling Shruti” a happy birthday, describing her as “the most beautiful person inside and out”. He went on to say that he feels blessed to have such an amazing girlfriend. “Love you babe, have a wonderful day,” he concluded. Even last month, he posted a picture of Shruti, addressing her as his “girlfriend”. So, the news of the break-up comes as a rude shock.
According to a source close to the couple, they parted ways almost a month ago. “The decision was taken by mutual consent and there is no bad blood between the two. They continue to remain the best of friends and will always have each other’s back,” informed the source, adding that Michael will continue to have a special place in Shruti’s heart and vice versa. “They really respect and care for each other.” Reasons for the separation remain under wraps with neither wanting to open up on the subject.
Shruti met Michael in London through a common friend when she was there to record a track with the British alternative rock band Dinosaur Pile-Up. Since they started spending time with each other, Michael has been to India on a few occasions and has even met Shruti’s actor-filmmaker father, Kamal Haasan. An alumnus of the prestigious Drama Centre London, he has played the role of a Russian Soldier in Kamal’s Vishwaroopam 2.
In December 2017, the trio was clicked (right) at the wedding of Shruti’s close friend, Tamil actor Aadhav Kannadasan with Vinodhnie Suresh. Michael in a traditional veshti made a pretty picture with Shruti who looked gorgeous in a pink sari, and set tongues wagging about the winsome twosome tying the knot soon. That rumour was quickly refuted.Buzz around the break-up began with Shruti’s cryptic post on April 10: “Begin again… a new phase, thankful and blessed, for all the love lessons and light. The brightest light shines deep inside the darkest of places. More music more movies and more me - can’t wait. Being with myself has and always will be my greatest love story.” She has since deleted some of her posts with Michael, including one she had put up in December sharing her excitement over meeting him after a long time in LA.
Well, not all love stories end in happily ever after, but they don’t have to end bitterly either.
Music is my focus right now; acting will take a step back-Shruti Haasan

Shruti Haasan, who recently celebrated her birthday, is intent on pursuing a career in music. Although acting remains one of her passions, she wants to “take a step back” from juggling film assignments and instead, concentrate on scoring and singing a few ditties.
“Music is my focus right now,” she tells mid-day, emphasising that it has a calming effect on her. “As an artiste, I can’t be constricted. It is essential that I constantly keep reinventing myself. This year will see me come up with my own singles.”
Haasan points out that the monotony of churning out films nudged her towards exploring her creative streak beyond acting. “Three industries and multiple films simultaneously were leaving little time for me to find myself. People were forming opinions about me, almost to the point of pigeonholing and that’s the last thing I want,” says Haasan, who has previously several films.
The actor, who divides her time between Los Angeles and London, is in a happy space with beau Michael Corsale, but is in no hurry to tie the knot. “I’m tired of the marriage rumours. Everyone knows about him, but I don’t see why I should speak about him.”
Despite coming from an unconventional family set-up, Haasan says that her parents’ marriage has not made her cynical. “That was their life, this is mine. I know how to hold on to my relationships.”

While both dad Kamal Haasan and mom Sarika seem to approve of her Brit beau, marriage isn’t on the cards yet
Natasha Coutinho (MUMBAI MIRROR; December 12, 2017)
On November 30, a picture of Shruti Haasan with steady beau Michael Corsale and mother Sarika in Bandra zset tongues wagging. Six days later, they made a headline-grabbing appearance at Shruti’s close friend Tamil actor Aadhav Kannadasan’s wedding with Vinodhnie Suresh. They attended all the ceremonies from the mehendi and sangeet to the pheras and reception.
What was even more telling was that Michael was coaxed into wearing the traditional veshti to make a pretty picture with Shruti who looked gorgeous in a pink sari, and seen chatting companionably with Shruti’s dad Kamal Haasan. Even as rumours of an impending wedding had Chennai buzzing, the duo flew down to Mumbai and was spotted last night painting the town red, Shruti sexy and casual in a pair of denim shorts and a Tee.
They had met in London through a common friend when Shruti was there to record a track with the British alternative rock band, Dinosaur Pile-Up. Born and raised in London, Michael graduated from the famous Drama Centre London and is a part of the theatre group Deep Diving Men. “He flew to Mumbai earlier this year in February, three months after they started dating. Shruti has also been spending time in the Queen’s City whenever there’s a break in her schedule and has met Michael’s family,” informed a source, adding that he is fascinated with Indian culture. “Wearing the veshti was his idea since it was an important occasion for Shruti.”
When prodded on whether marriage was on the cards, the source however insisted that while they are happy in each other’s company, there are no immediate plans of a wedding as the actress is busy with film commitments.
Her spokesperson reiterated this, saying, “Shruti has never commented on her personal life and doesn’t intend to do so now either. But marriage isn’t on the cards. She’s busy with her work across all three industries.”

MUMBAI MIRROR (July 27, 2017)
The 31-year-old actress, who recently wrapped up work on Sabaash Naidu, her first film with veteran actor-filmmaker father Kamal Haasan, was spotted arriving at the airport to pick up Corsale. The couple greeted each other with a hug before their car sped away into the night.
We hear the London-based theatre actor will be in the Bay till next Monday. While reports suggest that the duo had recently met with Haasan Sr, fuelling talk of an impending wedding, Shruti’s spokesperson denied it, saying, “There are no wedding bells here. They are just spending some time together as he is based in London and she shuttles between Chennai and Mumbai.”
