MAIN VAAPAS AAUNGA is proving to be a HIT film in East Punjab as it catches the collections of a big new release like COCKTAIL 2 in just four days after its release. On Monday, COCKTAIL 2 has grossed around 53 lakhs nett while MAIN VAAPAS AAUNGA is 47 lakhs nett. On Tuesday, its likely that MAIN VAAPAS AAUNGA will be same or more than COCKTAIL 2 and East Punjab is one of the better performing circuits for the romcom.
MAIN VAAPAS AAUNGA has that Punjabi flavour with partition relatability which means it is scoring excellent numbers in Gurgaon and the bigger centres of Punjab state. The film is sure to hit double digits in the circuit and could even challenge the collections of BHOOTH BANGLA in the circuit which is a 165 crore nett plus film across India.
This is not to say that MAIN VAAPAS AAUNGA is a HIT and COCKTAIL 2 is a FLOP as the economics are all wrong for the former. Despite this huge appreciation in parts of the country, it will turn out to be a heavy loser unless this mini miracle spreads out and becomes a real miracle. It has to become a mini MAHAVATAR NARSIMHA in terms of box office collections to get somewhere.
Putting East Punjab aside and at an all India level, COCKTAIL 2, which actually does not have much appreciation, is actually standing in a better position simply because of the opening weekend. It again shows the importance of getting figures up on the first weekend especially if you have a cost associated for a film. Its basically a MUST for films with a budget.
-----------------------------------------
MAIN VAAPAS AAUNGA did very well in the second week collecting around 20 crore nett which is almost double of the first week and is now standing at a total of 31 crore nett. The film has seen an excellent trajectory after the first weekend and has found solid appreciation with the gentry audience especially in NCR and Punjab.
Despite the break out it will still be a big loser in terms of recovery as it it needed to break out from higher initial numbers. Here the film actually might do 60-65 crore nett or even more which is a HIT number for the content and face value of the film but not for the budget of the film.
-----------------------------------------
MAIN VAAPAS AAUNGA continues its steady run as it collected 10.50 crore nett which is a little less than the second weekend but is still almost as much as the FIRST WEEK. The trend for the film is outstanding and its a good break out considering the opening day collections. In fact, the break out would have looked outstanding as well in the pre pandemic days but after what has happened to films like THE KASHMIR FILES and MAHAVATAR NARSIMHA is that they bought in the trends of the pre multiplex era and shown the levels you can go to with hardly any start. This used to happen many times in the 80's and 90's.
The film is a HIT in East Punjab and NCR while Mysore is also good but the rest are on the lower side.
The collections of the film till date are as follows.
Week One - 11,31,00,000
Week Two - 20,47,00,000
Friday - 2,65,00,000 apprx
Saturday - 3,85,00,000 apprx
Sunday - 4,00,00,000 apprx
Third Weekend - 10,50,00,000 apprx
TOTAL - 42,28,00,000 apprx

MAIN VAAPAS AAUNGA has done well in the second weekend as it collected a similar amount to what it collected in the whole first week. The film collected around 11.50 crore nett in the second weekend which takes the film to almost 23 crore nett in ten days. Despite the strong second weekend the collections still remain low due to the disaster initial of the film though slowly, it is covering ground.
The film has found appreciation mainly in NCR and Punjab. The film has collected over 4.50 crore nett in East Punjab and this is mainly on the strength of Gurgaon, Chandigarh and the big cities of Punjab (political). The circuit which today is less than 10% is more than 20% for this film but going forward the key will be Mumbai city which needs to do better. Obviously it can do better in Central and Eastern India but that is unlikely to happen. This makes Mumbai city important as its a big center and can do better as the film is for the gentry audience.
The biggest issue for the film are its costs. The film should really be a success if it does business similar to the likes of THE KERALA STORY 2: GOES BEYOND or MARDAANI 3 but the costs of this film are far more than those films. The film still has time and it remains to be seen where it can finally reach.
The collections of MAIN VAAPAS AAUNGA till date are as follows.
Week One - 11,23,00,000
Friday - 2,00,00,000 apprx
Saturday - 4,25,00,000 apprx
Sunday - 5,25,00,000 apprx
Second Weekend - 11,50,00,000
TOTAL - 22,73,00,000 apprx

HAUNTED – ECHOES OF THE PAST saw a drop in collections on Wednesday as it collected 1.10 crore nett which takes the film to almost 13 crore nett. The week will end close to 14 crore nett which is good figure for this film though it will not collect much after the first week. Still the job is done as costs are very low and there is not much of P&A spend especially for the advertising side.
MAIN VAAPAS AAUNGA is holding up well at the box office as it saw its best day on Wednesday and this looks to continue on the last day of the week. This means the film is going to end the week with higher collections than how it started the week. The collections of the film so far are around 9.75 crore nett and it will end the week with 11.50 crore nett.
The collections remain low but it has a chance to cover some ground in week two as the second week should be as good as the first week or maybe even more despite the competition. It does not alter the fate of the film as the costs are high but now it can end up with respectable collections if it can maintain for the next few weeks. The film has good collections now in NCR and East Punjab with Mumbai city and Bangalore also collecting well.
The collections of HAUNTED – ECHOES OF THE PAST and MAIN VAAPAS AAUNGA are as follows.
Haunted – Echoes Of The Past
Friday - 2,25,00,000 apprx
Saturday - 3,00,00,000 apprx
Sunday - 3,50,00,000 apprx
Monday - 1,50,00,000 apprx

Wednesday - 1,75,00,000 apprx
TOTAL - 9,80,00,000 apprx
--------------------------------------
MAIN VAAPAS AAUNGA, which opened to disastrous collections last week, is now showing a very good trend and the box office has improved tremendously. The film started showing a good trend over the weekdays and now the second weekend is even better. There is still a lot of work to do due to the budget of the film. Despite the trend, the collections are still only 17.50 crore nett till date though after ten days it can be around 23.50 crore nett.
It is going to cover ground from here on but its all about how much ground it can cover and where can it go. Its Delhi NCR and East Punjab doing most of the lifting at present. The film needs support from Mumbai circuit especially Mumbai city if it is to really go somewhere and continue this trend into the next few weeks. These three areas are enough for the film to get somewhere in the final tally. Mumbai has done a little more than East Punjab and this gap has to widen as there is a limit as to how much Punjab and NCR alone can give.
The film started off like it would become a EK DIN which had similar costs to MAIN VAAPAS AAUNGA and openings were also the same. In the weekdays it looked like it can go the KRISHNAVATARAM PART 1: THE HEART way which was around 34 crore nett from a 1 crore nett opening. This was also costly for its face value though not as much as EK DIN.
Now it looks even better for MAIN VAAPAS AAUNGA and for sure its going to get a respectable finish. However, the target now should be some sort of success or even better due to this trend and the next 2 weeks will tell whether it can do that. It will be gentry audiences driving as break out into the wider audience would actually turn out to be a miracle.
The collections of MAIN VAAPAS AAUNGA till date are as follows.
Week One - 11,23,00,000
Friday - 2,00,00,000 apprx
Saturday - 4,25,00,000 apprx

HAUNTED – ECHOES OF THE PAST is a success as it collects 1.50 crore nett on its first Monday showing a drop of around 35% from the first day. This now takes the film to over 10 crore nett and it should be doing around 14 crore nett over the week. The flow of releases means there may not be much coming after the first week. But the film is going to cover its costs and maybe even a little more from theatrical and whatever it picks up from non theatrical will be profit.
MAIN VAAPAS AAUNGA held up well on Monday as it collected in the same range as Friday but the collections are too low with just a little over 1 crore nett. The film has collected 6.50 crore nett in four days and it will be go to around 10 crore nett for the week. Due to the extremely dull weekend, it needed the Monday collections to be around Saturday levels which was going to be a huge ask. The North India business on Sunday did give it a chance to hold on Monday.
A film like KRISHNAVATARAM PART 1: THE HEART went from a 6.25 crore nett weekend to 34 crore nett and that film had a Monday which matched Friday also. But it did not have the big films in the way which will come over the next few weeks. The Monday gives MAIN VAAPAS AAUNGA a chance to get a respectable number up if it can hang around for 4-5 weeks. Yet, a miracle is still needed for it to be a success.
The other two films, BHARAT BHHAGYA VIDDHAATA and GOVERNOR, fell on Monday and are likely to finish with first week totals of 5 crore nett apprx for BHARAT BHHAGYA VIDDHAATA and 4.50 crore nett for GOVERNOR.
The collections of the films released this week are as follows.

HAUNTED – ECHOES OF THE PAST collected 1.50 crore nett on its first Tuesday which is the same collection as Monday as the film did not get much benefit of the discounted rates but this was the case with most films apart from MAIN VAAPAS AAUNGA. The film has now crossed 10 crore nett and is probably looking at a first week of 13 crore nett. The film will cover its total cost from just the theatrical share from India.

MAIN VAAPAS AAUNGA showed a good jump on Tuesday, as for the first time, it collected as much HAUNTED – ECHOES OF THE PAST though that is not an achievement as the costs are multifold of the horror film. The film is steady at fair levels in Delhi NCR and East Punjab but outside collections are very low. The film stands at 9.50 crore nett and should end the week at 11.50 crore nett.
The other two films, BHARAT BHHAGYA VIDDHAATA and GOVERNOR, were flat on Tuesday and are not going anywhere. These films will have to settle for a one week run as not much will be coming after that.

HAUNTED – ECHOES OF THE PAST has seen a decent weekend collecting almost 9 crore nett. The film may not have seen huge jumps over the weekend but that is because the film had good enough occupancy on day one itself and the genre is such that its not going to show huge growth. This trend seems good enough for the film to show decent enough holds over the weekdays.
The film has done very well in Delhi/UP and the Eastern circuits are also good and these should continue to lead over the weekdays. The collections in NCR are a surprise as its a very upmarket area but HAUNTED – ECHOES OF THE PAST has managed to get good collections here. The film should turn out be a success though its unlikely to be a HIT film due to the flow of releases which will curtail its business post the first week. Yet, this first week is enough for the film.
MAIN VAAPAS AAUNGA did better on Sunday as the film got good collections in certain properties of NCR and East Punjab but the overall collections are only 5.75 crore nett. Its pretty much impossible for a film of this cost to come back from here unless a miracle happens and Monday is like Saturday or better. The film has been rejected all over with Delhi and Punjab being better probably due to the partition factor.
The other two films, BHARAT BHHAGYA VIDDHAATA and GOVERNOR, could not do much as both finished in the 3-3.50 crore nett range with a normal weekend trajectory.
The collections of the films released this week are as follows.

HAUNTED – ECHOES OF THE PAST was the leading Hindi film of the week as it collected best of the new releases and the holdover films. The collections are being seen as a surprise mainly as its beaten the far bigger film MAIN VAAPAS AAUNGA which would seem to have a much more awareness especially around the industry as well as in the media, social media and the digital arena. But what is happening at a ground level in the likes of Lucknow, Kanpur and Patna is different as these collections prove.
The 2 crore nett plus collections (would have been more if it had a proper release at the national chains especially PVR Inox) of HAUNTED – ECHOES OF THE PAST is actually not much of a surprise and its more about the genre not taken seriously in the industry. In the 80's when video become rampant, this genre was a parallel industry as it became about the mass audiences due to a chunk of the big city audience shifting to video. Its pretty similar today though for video, you can read streaming.
HAUNTED – ECHOES OF THE PAST is a low budget film and if it can hold up for a week, it will be a success. The film does seem to made through AI technology; so, in terms of look, it does look bad but the audience has come for the horror and if they get that with some sort of story, it will be enough for the film.
MAIN VAAPAS AAUNGA is extremely poor with collections of a little over 1 crore nett. The film has been made on 6-7 times the cost of HAUNTED – ECHOES OF THE PAST and has half the collections of that film which pretty much tells the story. The trailer of the film offers nothing and that reflects in the collections. The film is likely to go the EK DIN way and suffer huge losses as, just like that film, the costs are way higher than the trailer or the cast of this film would suggest.
The other two films GOVERNOR and BHARAT BHHAGYA VIDDHAATA; both collected in the 75 lakh nett range but with trajectory of BHARAT BHHAGYA VIDDHAATA on day one, this one may get more growth. It may even get the best growth of all the new films released though unless its a miracle multifold growth, it will not matter much.
-----------------------------------------
HAUNTED – ECHOES OF THE PAST collected well again on Saturday as it collected 3 crore nett easily coming out on top of all the new releases. The film almost doubled up its collections at the PVR chain as they increased the shows. This is most up the market chain but on day two the collections of HAUNTED – ECHOES OF THE PAST and MAIN VAAPAS AAUNGA are almost the same.
There is a 10 lakh gap and this is mainly due to less showcasing but when a film like HAUNTED – ECHOES OF THE PAST can collect as much as a film like MAIN VAAPAS AAUNGA at a chain like PVR, it shows how the audience profile has changed today as this would be unthinkable 7-8 years back. The fact that HAUNTED – ECHOES OF THE PAST is better in the Hindi belt is no surprise as that can be expected especially as far as initial goes and it would have been same years back also.
There will be whispers in the industry that the issue here is the audience as they support a lower quality product against a well made film. But cinema in India has never been about which is made better and visually looks better. Its always about the content and emotion and here HAUNTED probably has something to get the audience in and also engage them enough for the film to work at its level. Its always the audience which decides what is a good film and what is a bad film and not the industry or people/media who write about films. These are all opinions and have no value whatsoever, only results hold value.
HAUNTED – ECHOES OF THE PAST will score a decent weekend and just needs to follow through with normal trends over the weekdays and will be a success.
The collections of the films released this week are as follows.
