Madgaon Express collects 31.60 cr in 6 weeks

Madgaon Express Review: A Deliriously Funny Bro-Mantic Laugh Riot
Box Office India Trade Network

MADGAON EXPRESS collected well in its sixth week as collections were a little better than the fifth week as the film was pushed by Maharashtra Day in the big centres of Maharashtra. The film has accumulated 19.50 crore nett in Mumbai circuit and in the sixth week, the collections were better in the circuit than the fifth week of CREW.

The film has benefited so heavily in Mumbai circuit due to the failure of Eid releases and the lack of new releases that the film is a actually a HIT in Mumbai circuit and collections remain strong. The film is so lopsided that Mumbai is a HIT, Mysore is pretty good but the rest are a disaster. This is very rare especially as Mumbai circuit is being driven by the big centres of Mumbai city, Pune and Thane. So, you would expect some respectable numbers at least in other metros like Delhi NCR, Kolkata or Hyderabad but this has not happened.

The film has more weeks to keep on adding now due to lack of films and in Mumbai, Pune and Thane. The film has the best occupancy of all films playing in Mumbai and than includes MAIDAAN. It collected more than BADE MIYAN CHOTE MIYAN in Mumbai city last week and would be no surprise if it collections are more than MAIDAAN this week.

The collections of MADGAON EXPRESS till date are as follows.
Week One - 12,84,00,000
Week Two - 5,59,00,000
Week Three - 5,31,00,000
Week Four - 3,06,00,000
Week Five - 2,33,00,000
Week Six - 2,47,00,000
TOTAL - 31,60,00,000

Laapataa Ladies collects 17.42 cr in 7 weeks; Madgaon Express 26.80 cr in 4 weeks; Swantantrya Veer Savarkar 23.93 cr

A few films released weeks back are managing to keep alive and will now end with respectable numbers at the box office as they run post the Eid releases. This made little difference to LAAPATAA LADIES as its run was nearing an end by Eid anyway.

MADGAON EXPRESS and SWATANTRYA VEER SAVARKAR would not have got hardly anything post Eid if the Eid releases were upto the mark. but now they look like heading for 30 crore and 25 crore finishes which looked tough earlier. LAAPATAA LADIES should finish at over 18 crore nett.

None of these films can be called successful but at least they have got some numbers up on the board and that is something in todays time. Today, smaller films have more of a chance to break out if there is something in them due to the lack of releases which gives time at the cinemas. At the same time, none of these three could manage that like what HANUMAN did earlier this year.

LAAPATAA LADIES is very niche and limited to the bigger cinemas (mainly PVR Inox chain) in urban centres. MADGAON EXPRESS and SWATANTRYA VEER SAVARKAR are all Mumbai circuit centric with both films comfortably over 15 crore nett in the circuit. The former is strong Maharashtra with a little support in Gujarat while the latter is majorly performing Maharashtra. Business in North, East and Central is awful for both films which is why they could not break out.

The collections of LAAPATAA LADIES, Madgaon Express and Swatantrya Veer Savarkar are as follows.

Laapataa Ladies
Week One - 6,00,00,000
Week Two - 3,87,00,000
Week Three - 2,45,00,000
Week Four - 2,24,00,000
Week Five - 1,28,00,000
Week Six - 1,00,00,000
Week Seven - 58,00,000
TOTAL - 17,42,00,000

Madgaon Express
Week One - 12,84,00,000

MADGAON EXPRESS and SWATANTRYA VEER SAVARKAR did poorly in the first week with collections of 13 and 10 crore nett respectively. Its bad enough that there are so many Hindi films catering to only urban centres. Here you have a MADGAON EXPRESS just for the urban centres of Maharashtra. SWATANTRYA VEER SAVARKAR pretty much caters to the same audience but you can add a few of the other A centres of Maharashtra like Nagpur and Nasik.

The collections of both films are better in Maharashtra but cannot be called good. Its just they are better than other circuits and respectable numbers in the state while other areas are dull. MADGAON EXPRESS has fared better in other circuits as compared to SWATANTRYA VEER SAVARKAR and that's why the all India collections are a little better..

The target for these smaller films, which are not opening, is to collect a second week total that is around the the same as first week which does not look the case here as collections post Holi are too low. The best case is to hold at very low levels.

The collections of MADGAON EXPRESS are as follows.
Friday - 1,50,00,000 apprx
Saturday - 2,50,00,000 apprx
Sunday - 2,75,00,000 apprx
Monday - 2,50,00,000 apprx
Tuesday - 1,35,00,000 apprx
Wednesday - 1,25,00,000 apprx
Thursday - 1,25,00,000 apprx
TOTAL - 13,10,00,000 apprx

The collections of SWATANTRYA VEER SAVARKAR are as follows.
Friday - 1,00,00,000 apprx
Saturday - 2,00,00,000 apprx

Tuesday -  1,00,00,000 apprx
Wednesday - 90,00,000 apprx
Thursday - 85,00,000 apprx

MADGAON EXPRESS and SWATANTRYA VEER SAVARKAR collected 1.35 crore nett and 1 crore nett respectively on Tuesday and these collections look fine if compared to Friday. But it is because of Holi benefit remaining in some circuits and there will be drops to come. The totals so far are 10.50 crore nett apprx for MADGAON EXPRESS and 8.25 crore nett for SWATANTRYA VEER SAVARKAR.

There are circuits like Delhi/UP, CP, CI and Rajasthan which hold well post Holi and some centres in these places are actually better than Holi day. So here for both these films, the collections in these circuits will be higher than Friday. The problem is that none of the films are doing much in these pockets; otherwise, they would have scored much better numbers on Tuesday.

The problem going forward is that the main circuit Mumbai, where collections are somewhat respectable has seen a drop from Friday, and that probably settles the fate of both films as this circuit really had to go on if the films where to get anywhere. If Mumbai was same of as good as Friday then there be may have been a chance of these films getting a run in this circuit. The collections in the Hindi circuits will come down over the next couple of days.

The collections of MADGAON EXPRESS are as follows.
Friday - 1,50,00,000 apprx
Saturday - 2,50,00,000 apprx
Sunday - 2,75,00,000 apprx

MADGAON EXPRESS and SWATANTRYA VEER SAVARKAR got Holi benefit on Monday but both films basically collected in the ranges of their Saturday business. This is better than the holdover SHAITAAN which did not get to the Saturday levels. Nevertheless, both these films are not really going anywhere.

MADGAON EXPRESS has collected around 9.25 crore nett so far and SWATANTRYA VEER SAVARKAR stands at almost 7.50 crore nett. The former has a 2 crore nett lead and should start to open up a gap as it has more business coming from outside Maharashtra. SWATANTRYA VEER SAVARKAR will have to hold much more strongly in Maharashtra to keep up.

There should be a post Holi hold but both films have less business coming from these Holi areas. Hence, it remains to be seen what numbers they put up.

The collections of MADGAON EXPRESS are as follows.
Friday - 1,50,00,000 apprx
Saturday - 2,50,00,000 apprx
Sunday - 2,65,00,000 apprx
Monday - 2,50,00,000 apprx
TOTAL - 9,15,00,000 apprx

Saturday - 2,00,00,000 apprx

MADGAON EXPRESS and SWATANTRYA VEER SAVARKAR had low first weekends and although there was some trajectory on Saturday, the overall collections are just too low. MADGAON EXPRESS had a weekend of 6.5-6.75 crore nett while SWATANTRYA VEER SAVARKAR had a weekend of 5.25-5.50 crore nett. It was not only SHAITAAN that remained ahead in week three but even KUNG FU PANDA 4 was better than both films outside Mumbai circuit and had better collections on Saturday and Sunday on an all India level as well.

MADGAON EXPRESS has its best collections in Maharashtra but SWATANTRYA VEER SAVARKAR is even better but it hardly has collections outside the state. MADGAON EXPRESS is actually far better outside Maharashtra but still very dull which pretty spells out the problem with both films. One film has no reach as its about a Maharashtrian politician and the other film has no reach due to the type of story it is.

There is the Holi period which will help the collections but where do you go from these sort of low weekends and then the competition coming this week, CREW, is also targeting the metros though demographics may be different. Both films have put up better numbers than LAAPATAA LADIES which was another non cast film released a few weeks back and had the backing of Aamir Khan Productions but was released on lesser screens then these two films.

The collections of MADGAON EXPRESS are as follows.
Friday - 1,50,00,000 apprx
Saturday - 2,50,00,000 apprx
Sunday - 2,65,00,000 apprx

MADGAON EXPRESS collected 1.50 crore nett which is an okay collection for a non cast film but it has come with a buy one get one free offer. So, its about what the film is doing when there is no offer. Also these films are about what is happening post the weekend with the weekends giving strong enough trajectory.

The film has done decent in Mumbai circuit with around 50% of the all India collections coming from the circuit but this was likely as it looked a film mainly for this circuit. It looks like THE HANGOVER meets DIL CHAHTA HAI and that story itself will not relate much in North, Central and East India.

The fact that writers and directors today in 2024 are influenced by a film like DIL CHAHTA HAI pretty much sums up the messed up situation in the industry. Much has been said here before about this but its a blind industry where bad becomes good and good becomes bad and that is why the industry is in a huge struggle today and there looks no end in sight.

Back to MADGAON EXPRESS, it is depending on Mumbai circuit and as mentioned before, if this was last year you could write it off but with centres like Pune and Thane really collecting well now maybe these centres can take the film somewhere if they hold on in the long run. Outside Mumbai and maybe South, it will struggle..

The other release SWATANTRYA VEER SAVARKAR collected 1 crore nett with a huge bulk of the collections also coming from Mahrashtra. The film is mainly a Hindi release with only a few shows in Marathi.

This can also be said to be an okay collections for this cast and zone of the film but if ADGAON EXPRESS had the buy one get one offer then this film had bookings from maybe schools or companies to bolster the collections. This was not feeding but probably shows taken out to educate about the character. This film has less to offer outside Maharashtra then even MADGAON EXPRESS and again, it depends on Mumbai circuit.
-----------------------------------
MADGAON EXPRESS and SWATANTRYA VEER SAVARKAR jumped 70% and 100% respectively which can be called good growth but both are mainly collecting in Mumbai circuit. Both films have collected similar numbers in Mumbai circuit and that extra 1 crore nett of MADGAON EXPRESS is coming as it has better numbers than SWATANTRYA VEER SAVARKAR in other circuits though they are still very low.

If MADGAON EXPRESS had these figures in Mumbai and more normal ratios outside it could have been respectable numbers but its a road trip/holiday film and a Goa based film and you sort of know that its mainly Mumbai and possibly South.

For SWATANTRYA VEER SAVARKAR, its a biopic on a Maharashtrian politician and that keeps the majority collections in Maharashtra. The Maharashtra areas in CP Berar and Nizam/Andhra also have decent numbers. This weeks seems about Maharashtra but its not that these films are doing well in Maharashtra. Its just some respectable numbers are there compared to the rest of the country. Also one film has buy one get free offer and the other has block bookings. So, its about where they stand when these things are not supporting.

Both films are about what they are doing post the Holi holidays and are the collections around the first day numbers and then maybe they can get some sort of run.

The collections of MADGAON EXPRESS are as follows.
Friday - 1,50,00,000 apprx
Saturday - 2,50,00,000 apprx
TOTAL - 4,00,00,000 apprx

The collections of SWATANTRYA VEER SAVARKAR are as follows.
