KUTTEY saw a crash in business on Monday which was pretty much expected with collections going down on Sunday itself. The film collected 30-35 lakhs nett on Monday and it will mean a first week of around 3-3.25 crore nett.

There is no release this week due to the release of PATHAAN on Wednesday but still it will be difficult to hold screens. The fact there are no releases means at least it will remain in theatres in week two even though collections are hardly anything.

The film has been beaten a dubbed Hindi film VARISU and that practically tells the story of the film. VARISU may be a good or decent film for Tamil Nadu and other parts of South but for Hindi audiences its bad and trailer tells that. Yet its scored over this outright Hindi film which shows how awful KUTTEY is.

The four day collections of KUTTEY are as follows.

Friday - 1,00,00,000 apprx

Saturday - 1,20,00,000 apprx

Sunday - 1,00,00,000 apprx

Monday - 35,00,000 apprx

KUTTEY saw a drop in business on Sunday as it collected 3.25 crore nett over the weekend and Sunday was pretty much similar to the first day which itself was very poor. The collections pretty much reflect the word of mouth and the drop on Sunday shows the total rejection of the film.

There was the holiday factor on Saturday in some parts of the country but that did not really benefit KUTTEY much as the holiday was in mass pockets and collections of Kuttey were minimal. It meant the push on Saturday was from the metros which dropped on Sunday.

The collections of KUTTEY over the weekend are as follows. 

Friday - 1,00,00,000 apprx

Saturday - 1,20,00,000 apprx

Sunday - 1,05,00,000 apprx

The Hindi dubbed Tamil film VARISU managed to do decent on Saturday but was flat on Sunday as it collected around 3.75 crore nett over its first weekend. If the film had gone up 20-30% on Sunday or more, it could have been a fair result for the film. 

The film showed strong growth on Saturday where it was a holiday but these places fell on Sunday and other places did not grow enough to compensate the falls here. The film has done decent business in Gujarat/Saurashtra and Odisha with the latter doing better than a bigger circuits like East Punjab and West Bengal. The minor victory is that the film has scored over KUTTEY but overall numbers remain low. VARISU scored much better in the South.

The first weekend numbers of VARISU (Hindi) are as follows.

Saturday - 1,50,00,000

Sunday - 1,50,00,000

KUTTEY had a dull first day as it collected in the 1 crore nett range but this was better than it looked in the afternoon as the evening and night shows did a little better. At the end of the day, there can be no complaints as to why the film did not collect as when you see the trailer, you know the film is bad offering no entertainment; so, the audience is just not going to waste their money.

There is simply no chance of appreciation for this type of cinema from the public today though your critics and reviewers maybe positive but they tend to like bad cinema. Today that business is even more redundant than before as now the media cannot push your Saturday like before when you got a really low Friday.

It is a sad scenario with these type of box office collections but in a way its good the audience is keeping well away from this type of cinema as only this way better cinema can be made. Earlier these type of films sometimes got respectable collections and then others attempted to make the same crap.

There will be an upward trend for the film on Saturday but unless its more than double its not likely to help much in the long run as the core mass audience will slam the door on the film on Sunday. The other release LAKADBAGGHA could not register any collections on day one.

KUTTEY remained dull on its second day with collections in the 1.20 crore nett range which is growth of only 20% which takes the collections to 2.20 crore nett. The sad scenario is that it is being beaten by a very ordinary mass south film VARISU which has nothing really going for it in the Hindi circuits in terms or look or face value.

But what it probably does is has some of the elements of action, emotions and romance while KUTTEY has nothing and is one of those so called Hindi content films. But this content is only in the eyes of a certain section of the industry and critics. The wake up call is that bad looking South films, when they have the commercial elements, are getting better collections than so called Hindi content films with stars from the press.

The collections in Gujarat/Saurashtra of KUTTEY are around 5-6 times less than VARISU (Hindi). The circuit is family dominated as VARISU being a family drama benefited from the holiday while KUTTEY is a film that families do not go anywhere near.
