Fantasy TV series Chandrakanta that aired on Doordarshan between 1994-96 is set for a comeback in March on Life OK.

Actress Kritika Kamra, who was last seen on the small screen in the 2015 show Reporters, returns to play the titular character, portrayed by model-actress Shikha Swaroop in the original.

Gaurav Khanna will play the male lead in the Nikhil Sinha-directed show. Buzz is, Harsh Vashisht, who has previously featured on shows like Ek Veer Ki Ardaas...Veera and Sadda Haq, has come on board to play Chandrakanta’s father. Wonder if the makers have found their Kroor Singh yet…

Mirror was the first to report (July 19) that Akshat Verma, who wrote Delhi Belly, is turning director with a dark comedy based in Mumbai. After working on the script for two years, Akshat had roped in Neil Bhoopalam and Kritika Kamra to play the lead pair.

Now, the studio producing the film has decided to scrap the project after deeming it financially unfeasible.

"The dates of the actors were finalised and the locations were locked. The shooting was to begin in December. However, at the last moment, the studio felt that the film doesn't justify the budget and the project was shelved," said a source in the film's unit.

When contacted, a spokesperson from UTV said: "We did like the script. But since the budget exceeded the amount initially agreed upon, we've decided not to proceed with the film."

Interestingly, this is the second film of Kritika Kamra's to go in cold storage. Previously, she was signed for Ekta Kapoor's Badtameez Dil, which was to be directed by Akshay Roy, but the project never took off.

In today's world, where all actresses are trained dancers, it came as a big surprise that the pretty Kritika Kamra could not impress the crowds or the judges with her dancing on Jhalak Dikkhla Jaa 7. She said, “Yes, I am the least experienced dancer in a world where you need to be fully equipped to dance like a professional. I have never trained to dance nor had any inclination because acting happened by chance. Also, in the week before my elimination, I got less marks but was declared safe because of public voting. So also, in the elimination week, I was told that I had got many votes, so even if the judges were not impressed, I would continue to stay. But suddenly the votes dropped and I was eliminated! I don't understand this number game and what counts here. But it's a show after all, so I have no regrets."

Meanwhile, Kritika who is anchoring the show Webbed 2, is happy that it has got further extension. She says, “It has been extended for eight more weeks."
