It was a dull week at the box office with 1921 being the only film which is still in the running. If it can continue to hold on day eight the way it has over the weekdays then it could turn out to be decent runner. The film grossed 11 crore nett apprx in its first week and lost around 50 lakhs on day one due to a late start at the main multiplexes.
MUKKABAAZ is a poor fare as it grossed 6.75 crore nett in its first week. The weekend was very poor and the film fell further on the weekdays. The film got the 4 and 5 stars dished out to it but that is all free but when it comes to time and money no one was prepared to give the film any.
1921 found a paying audience which was more than double of MUKKABAAZ with 11.25 lakh appx footfalls as compared to the 5.5 lakh of MUKKABAAZ. MUKKABAAZ was set in Bareilly but even there 1921 found a bigger audience..
KAALAKAANDI was even worse than MUKKABAAZ as it emerged a huge disaster and grossed 4.50 crore nett in its first week. The film was to go straight to digital and not have a theatrical release which may actually been better for in terms of revenue. But as far as audience is concerned it would not have even found that on digital.
The first week daily business of 1921 is as follows.
Friday - 1,50,00,000 apprx
Saturday - 2,25,00,000 apprx
Sunday - 2,50,00,000 apprx
Monday - 1,50,00,000 apprx
Tuesday - 1,25,00,000 apprx
Wednesday - 1,15,00,000 apprx
Thursday - 1,00,00,000 apprx
TOTAL - 11,15,00,000 apprx
1921 collects 7.75 cr in 4 days; Kaalakaandi collects 3.40 cr; Mukkabaaz collects 4.75 cr

1921 has emerged the best of a poor lot as it remained a good lead over the three films. The film grossed in the 1.25-1.50 crore nett on range on Monday to takes it total to 7.75 crore nett apprx. Its a total that MUKKABAAZ or KAALAKAANDI don't have a chance to hit over the week. The hold is decent but first day saw a late multiplex release. It remains to be seen how the film goes from here and it can continue at these levels there will at least be a respectable total. The first four day business of 1921 is as follows.
Friday - 1,50,00,000 apprx
Saturday - 2,25,00,000 apprx
Sunday - 2,50,00,000 apprx
Monday - 1,50,00,000 apprx
TOTAL - 7,75,00,000 apprx
KAALAKAANDI is a disaster and as expected went down on Monday and will be a one week runner only. The film will close the week at around 4.75 crore nett and a probable lifetime of 5 crore nett. The first four days figures of KAALAKAANDI are as follows.
Friday - 1,00,00,000 apprx
Saturday - 95,00,000 apprx
Sunday - 95,00,000 apprx
Monday - 50,00,000
TOTAL - 3,40,00,000 apprx
MUKKABAAZ is also a dud though not as bad as KAALAKAANDI. The first day collectiosn are in the same range as day one but are too low being well under 1 crore nett. The film will gross around 7 crore nett over the first week. The first four day business of MUKKABAAZ is as follows.
Friday - 75,00,000 apprx
Saturday - 1,50,00,000 apprx
Sunday - 1,75,00,000 apprx
Monday - 75,00,000 apprx
TOTAL - 4,75,00,000 apprx
1921 collects 6.25 cr in 3 days; Kaalakaandi collects 2.90 cr; Mukkabaaz collects 4 cr

The first weekend of 2018 with releases which had some awareness has turned into a disaster as 1921, KAALAKAANDI and MUKKABAAZ had no collections and no trend. 1921 was the best of the lot but grossed just 6 crore nett over its first weekend. The way it is going it may not even reach the business of the first film in the franchise. 1920 released ten years ago and grossed 10.50 crore and 1921 is unlikely to go much further than that unless the weekdays spring a huge surprise. The first weekend business of 1921 is as follows.
Friday - 1,50,00,000 apprx
Saturday - 2,25,00,000 apprx
Sunday - 2,50,00,000 apprx
TOTAL - 6,25,00,000 apprx
KAALAKAANDI is a huge disaster and despite being a multiplex film it had its best collections on its first day and those first day collections itself were a disaster. This result was coming for the film with a disastrous trailer but even then failing to grow on Saturday or Sunday after a 1 crore nett opening takes a lot of doing. But this film is bad enough to do the impossible. The first weekend figures of KAALAKAANDI are as follows.
Friday - 1,00,00,000 apprx
Saturday - 95,00,000 apprx
Sunday - 95,00,000 apprx
TOTAL - 2,90,00,000 apprx
MUKKABAAZ has also fared poorly though not as bad as KAALAKAANDI. This film had a lot of support from the media which was expected as this tends to happen with this director's films but a film works with the support of the audience and not the support from reviewers as the audience go by what they see, not what they hear or read. MUKKABAAZ has grossed a very poor 4 crore nett apprx in its first weekend. A similar film SAALA KHADOOS had grossed 5.60 crore nett in its first weekend two years back and that film was also a disaster. The first weekend business of MUKKABAAZ is as follows.
Friday - 75,00,000 apprx
Saturday - 1,50,00,000 apprx
Sunday - 1,75,00,000 apprx
TOTAL - 4,00,00,000 apprx
1921 collects 3.75 cr in 2 days; Kaalakaandi collects 1.95 cr; Mukkabaaz collects 2.25 cr

1921 managed to get some business back from day one as it was a full out day for the film at multiplexes while day one had an afternoon start. The collections are still low compared to other films in the franchise but if it can show 40-50% growth on Sunday then there can be some hope for a little run for the film. The two day collections of 1921 are as follows
Friday - 1,50,00,000
Saturday - 2,25,00,000
TOTAL - 3,75,00,000
KAALAKAANDI is a box office disaster as collections dropped on day two. The film only has a limited metro multiplex audience and Saturday is when this audience comes out but this film has failed to grow of a disaster start. As it was said before release here that this sort of cinema has no place in Hindi cinema as the core Hindi audience does not come and the niche audience is getting limited day by day. The two day collections of KAALAKAANDI is as follows.
Friday - 1,00,00,000
Saturday - 95,00,000
TOTAL - 1,95,00,000
MUKKABAAZ has shown growth on its second day as it collected 1.50 crore nett but it had to do more because of the disaster start. The start was so low that even doubling of the collections is not good as it really needed to treble like NEWTON which got 2.50 crore nett on day two after a 90 lakh opening day (This came due to announcement that this film was going to represent India at the Oscars but no such thing happened with MUKKABAAZ). This does not happen often so it really have a chance MUKKABAAZ had to do its Saturday number on Friday and then double from that. The two day business of MUKKABAAZ is as follows.
Friday - 75,00,000 apprx
Saturday - 1,50,00,000 apprx
TOTAL - 2,25,00,000 apprx
