1921 could not really hold well in week two as collections went to to 2 crore nett in the second weekend. It took its overall total to 13.50 crore nett apprx. MUKKABAAZ is also very poor with 2 crore nett second weekend though the occupancy in Delhi NCR in second weekend was a little better. KAALAKAANDI is a disaster as it crashed out in the second weekend. The collections of the holdover releases from last week are as follows.

It was a dull week at the box office with 1921 being the only film which is still in the running. If it can continue to hold on day eight the way it has over the weekdays then it could turn out to be decent runner. The film grossed 11 crore nett apprx in its first week and lost around 50 lakhs on day one due to a late start at the main multiplexes.
MUKKABAAZ is a poor fare as it grossed 6.75 crore nett in its first week. The weekend was very poor and the film fell further on the weekdays. The film got the 4 and 5 stars dished out to it but that is all free but when it comes to time and money no one was prepared to give the film any.
1921 found a paying audience which was more than double of MUKKABAAZ with 11.25 lakh appx footfalls as compared to the 5.5 lakh of MUKKABAAZ. MUKKABAAZ was set in Bareilly but even there 1921 found a bigger audience..
KAALAKAANDI was even worse than MUKKABAAZ as it emerged a huge disaster and grossed 4.50 crore nett in its first week. The film was to go straight to digital and not have a theatrical release which may actually been better for in terms of revenue. But as far as audience is concerned it would not have even found that on digital.
The first week daily business of 1921 is as follows.
Friday - 1,50,00,000 apprx
Saturday - 2,25,00,000 apprx
Sunday - 2,50,00,000 apprx
Monday - 1,50,00,000 apprx
Tuesday - 1,25,00,000 apprx
Wednesday - 1,15,00,000 apprx
Thursday - 1,00,00,000 apprx
TOTAL - 11,15,00,000 apprx
Tiger Zinda Hai collects 328 cr in 26 days; 1921 collects 9 cr in 5 days; Mukkabaaz collects 5.45 cr; Kaalakaandi collects 3.80 cr

TIGER ZINDA HAI grossed around 1 crore nett on Tuesday to takes it total to around 328 crore nett. the fourth week of the film will collect 11 crore nett. It is looking a 335 crore nett finish for the film but with all these bans happening for PADMAAVAT, there could be an extended run for the film as it will remains in theaters where PADMAAVAT does not release.
The film will hit 100 crore nett in Mumbai today. The Delhi/UP business will close at around 75 crore nett and East Punjab will be 35 crore nett apprx which means 100 crore nett plus in Mumbai and 110 crore nett in North.
1921 is proving to best of the new releases as it grossed 1.25 crore nett apprx on Tuesday which has taken the five day total of the film to 9 crore nett. The weekdays are doing reasonable business to keep this film in the race.
The film needs a 20 crore nett total or close to that for a decent result and with 11 crore nett plus coming in the first week and with this trend there is a chance for average business but it depends on that second Friday which cant drop much from Thursday.
MUKKABAAZ is a big flop as it grossed 70 lakhs nett on Tuesday and is heading for a 7 crore nett first week. This film has been pushed by the media while 1921 has been attempted to be put down and at these low levels these things do affect a little. Not enough to make a difference as its about entertainment but if all was equal in terms of media support you could take a little off MUKKABAAZ and add that to 1921.
KAALAKAANDI is a disaster as it grossed 40 lakhs nett on Tuesday and the week is looking to close at 4.50 crore nett for this film. The film will not even do the business of CHEF which was also a disaster but grossed 5 crore nett.

1921 has emerged the best of a poor lot as it remained a good lead over the three films. The film grossed in the 1.25-1.50 crore nett on range on Monday to takes it total to 7.75 crore nett apprx. Its a total that MUKKABAAZ or KAALAKAANDI don't have a chance to hit over the week. The hold is decent but first day saw a late multiplex release. It remains to be seen how the film goes from here and it can continue at these levels there will at least be a respectable total. The first four day business of 1921 is as follows.
Friday - 1,50,00,000 apprx
Saturday - 2,25,00,000 apprx
Sunday - 2,50,00,000 apprx
Monday - 1,50,00,000 apprx
TOTAL - 7,75,00,000 apprx
KAALAKAANDI is a disaster and as expected went down on Monday and will be a one week runner only. The film will close the week at around 4.75 crore nett and a probable lifetime of 5 crore nett. The first four days figures of KAALAKAANDI are as follows.
Friday - 1,00,00,000 apprx
Saturday - 95,00,000 apprx
Sunday - 95,00,000 apprx
Monday - 50,00,000
TOTAL - 3,40,00,000 apprx
MUKKABAAZ is also a dud though not as bad as KAALAKAANDI. The first day collectiosn are in the same range as day one but are too low being well under 1 crore nett. The film will gross around 7 crore nett over the first week. The first four day business of MUKKABAAZ is as follows.
Friday - 75,00,000 apprx
Saturday - 1,50,00,000 apprx
Sunday - 1,75,00,000 apprx
Monday - 75,00,000 apprx
TOTAL - 4,75,00,000 apprx
1921 collects 6.25 cr in 3 days; Kaalakaandi collects 2.90 cr; Mukkabaaz collects 4 cr

The first weekend of 2018 with releases which had some awareness has turned into a disaster as 1921, KAALAKAANDI and MUKKABAAZ had no collections and no trend. 1921 was the best of the lot but grossed just 6 crore nett over its first weekend. The way it is going it may not even reach the business of the first film in the franchise. 1920 released ten years ago and grossed 10.50 crore and 1921 is unlikely to go much further than that unless the weekdays spring a huge surprise. The first weekend business of 1921 is as follows.
Friday - 1,50,00,000 apprx
Saturday - 2,25,00,000 apprx
Sunday - 2,50,00,000 apprx
TOTAL - 6,25,00,000 apprx
KAALAKAANDI is a huge disaster and despite being a multiplex film it had its best collections on its first day and those first day collections itself were a disaster. This result was coming for the film with a disastrous trailer but even then failing to grow on Saturday or Sunday after a 1 crore nett opening takes a lot of doing. But this film is bad enough to do the impossible. The first weekend figures of KAALAKAANDI are as follows.
Friday - 1,00,00,000 apprx
Saturday - 95,00,000 apprx
Sunday - 95,00,000 apprx
TOTAL - 2,90,00,000 apprx
MUKKABAAZ has also fared poorly though not as bad as KAALAKAANDI. This film had a lot of support from the media which was expected as this tends to happen with this director's films but a film works with the support of the audience and not the support from reviewers as the audience go by what they see, not what they hear or read. MUKKABAAZ has grossed a very poor 4 crore nett apprx in its first weekend. A similar film SAALA KHADOOS had grossed 5.60 crore nett in its first weekend two years back and that film was also a disaster. The first weekend business of MUKKABAAZ is as follows.
Friday - 75,00,000 apprx
Saturday - 1,50,00,000 apprx
Sunday - 1,75,00,000 apprx
TOTAL - 4,00,00,000 apprx
1921 collects 3.75 cr in 2 days; Kaalakaandi collects 1.95 cr; Mukkabaaz collects 2.25 cr

1921 managed to get some business back from day one as it was a full out day for the film at multiplexes while day one had an afternoon start. The collections are still low compared to other films in the franchise but if it can show 40-50% growth on Sunday then there can be some hope for a little run for the film. The two day collections of 1921 are as follows
Friday - 1,50,00,000
Saturday - 2,25,00,000
TOTAL - 3,75,00,000
KAALAKAANDI is a box office disaster as collections dropped on day two. The film only has a limited metro multiplex audience and Saturday is when this audience comes out but this film has failed to grow of a disaster start. As it was said before release here that this sort of cinema has no place in Hindi cinema as the core Hindi audience does not come and the niche audience is getting limited day by day. The two day collections of KAALAKAANDI is as follows.
Friday - 1,00,00,000
Saturday - 95,00,000
TOTAL - 1,95,00,000
MUKKABAAZ has shown growth on its second day as it collected 1.50 crore nett but it had to do more because of the disaster start. The start was so low that even doubling of the collections is not good as it really needed to treble like NEWTON which got 2.50 crore nett on day two after a 90 lakh opening day (This came due to announcement that this film was going to represent India at the Oscars but no such thing happened with MUKKABAAZ). This does not happen often so it really have a chance MUKKABAAZ had to do its Saturday number on Friday and then double from that. The two day business of MUKKABAAZ is as follows.
Friday - 75,00,000 apprx
Saturday - 1,50,00,000 apprx
TOTAL - 2,25,00,000 apprx
1921 collects 1.50 cr on Day 1; Kaalakaandi collects 1 cr; Mukkabaaz collects 75 lakhs

The first major releases of the year started the year on a horrible note as they failed to find an audience. 1921, KAALAKAANDI and MUKKABAAZ are looking at 3 crore between them despite a combined release of 3000 screens. It ensures that Tiger Zinda Hai will be the top film this weekend.
1921 was the best of the lot with collections set to be in the 1.50 crore nett range. This film had a few release problems as it released late in the day at multiplexes so there is a loss of 35-40 lakhs nett. But even if we take fair value of 2 crore nett which is the best it could have been it is still lower than the last two films of the franchise.
1920: EVIL RETURNS had grossed 3.50 crore nett in 2012 while 1920 LONDON had grossed 2.50 crore nett so it is well short of these films on a fair value number. The only plus is despite the release problems it has easily beaten the competition of KAALAKAANDI and MUKKABAAZ and these films were also promoted more than 1921.
KAALAKAANDI has grossed 1 crore nett on day one and this sort of figure was on the cards as the trailer was awful. The film is set in Mumbai so it has performed a little better in Mumbai and Pune but that hardly makes a difference.
Its hard to understand why these type of films are even made which no one is going to watch. If the trailer was bad the reports in the morning came out saying the film is half in English. Although this may be exaggerated as these exhibitor / distributor reports are but obviously there is enough English to be noticed. The fact today is that the English speaking audience of the metros do not really watch Hindi films and the core Hindi audience will never waste money on a film like KAALAKAANDI.
MUKKABAAZ had the lowest number of them all with around 75 lakhs nett. This film also had a poor trailer, the trailer showed action, love story and conflict but it was looking a bit arty. It even had songs but they were very bad visually so hardly made a difference.
The authentic UP setting will be its main calling card as the audience in Delhi/UP may relate more and it could pick up in that area. But with around 25 lakh coming in Delhi/UP on day even a huge manifold pick up will hardly be taking the film anywhere. But the film should be able to go ahead of KAALAKAANDI at some point in the week if not weekend simply because KAALAKAANDI has very bad reports.
