K C Bokadia remakes Punjabi film Bhoot Uncle Tusi Great Ho in Hindi; to cast Raj Babbar and Jaya Prada

It has been a long wait for filmmaker K C Bokadia, who returns to the big screen with a Bollywood film, seven years after presenting Dirty Politics. As the Punjabi film, Bhoot Uncle Tusi Great Ho, featuring Raj Babbar, Jaya Prada, Ihana Dhillon, and Ghuggi Gurpreet, among others, releases in north India today, Bokadia, shares that he plans to remake the film in Hindi, with Babbar again.

“Babbar saab will play the role of Bhoot Uncle again in the remake, but the rest of the actors will belong to the Hindi film industry,” reveals Bokadia, adding that he has made over six movies with Babbar and Prada. “Both of them haven’t charged a rupee for this movie because they are excited about the subject, and have supported [me]. The Punjabi film marks Jaya Prada ji’s debut in the language, and also features Punjab’s top actors, and technicians from the south. I plan to complete the remake in a month,” says the filmmaker, often referred to as the “fastest producer to make 50 films.”

The film chronicles the story of a man who wants to build a hospital, but dies before his dream can be fulfilled. “His brothers want to sell off his property, but his two children, and Bhoot Uncle, will not let that happen.”

Bokadia’s next production — Gajendra Ahire’s directorial venture — features Anupam Kher, Ranvir Shorey, and Mahima Chaudhary, and is titled The Signature.

Bappi Lahiri finished working on my film 3 months ago-K C Bokadia

Soumya Vajpayee (HINDUSTAN TIMES; February 18, 2022)

The sudden death of veteran musician Bappi Lahiri has left his peers in shock. One among them is filmmaker K C Bokadia, who worked with the late legend on several projects. “Bappi ji and I worked together in more than 20 films. Our association was really long, and it wasn’t just limited to work. We shared a strong personal bond, too. We were like family,” says Bokadia.

He adds, “As far as our work associations go, we worked on films such as Aaj Ka Arjun (1990), which featured the super hit song, Gori Hain Kalaiyaan. Then there were projects like Phool Bane Angarey (1991), Police Aur Mujrim, Tyagi (both 1992), etc. Working with him was always a pleasure. His work ethic was phenomenal.”

What makes the Lal Baadshah (1999) director content is that, after an association for over three decades, Lahiri was part of his most recent project, too. “The biggest thing is that almost three months ago, he finished working on the music for my film, Two Brothers Teri Meherbaniyan 2. Apart from composing the music, he’s also sung a few songs in the film along with Sonu Nigam (singer),” says the filmmaker, who feels Lahiri’s death has been a shock for him: “It’s a personal loss.”

We Indian actors don’t know how to make love on camera-Om Puri

Subhash K Jha (DNA; April 14, 2015)

Lovemaking in Bollywood films has become something of a laughing matter. In the just released, Ek Paheli Leela, Rajniesh Duggall is seen making love to Sunny Leone... with his clothes on! Duggal’s sheepish defence? “It’s called artistic licence. One has make do within the given moral parameters.”

Om Puri, however, won’t mince his words. Says Om with a sigh, “Firstly, I’d like to say the lovemaking in our films is really the pits. We Indian actors don’t know how to make love on camera. There is so much awkwardness in the body movements. We are all limbs and elbows. It looks very fake and strained.”

Om also wants to know why Indian actors do lovemaking scenes with their clothes on. “Where in the world, and how, do people make love with their clothes on? It’s ridiculous. If you don’t want to show actors without their clothes, just shoot the faces. There is no point in shooting an unconvincing love scene. I am sorry to say our lovemaking scenes are highly unaesthetic.”

Om cites the instance of Basu Bhattacharya’s Aastha where he had such scenes with Rekha. “They could have been done much more aesthetically. Our actors are too conscious of their body to make love scenes look convincing.”

However, he does not think nudity is mandatory for a credible bedroom sequence. “In my lovemaking sequence with Smita Patil in Govind Nihalani’s Aakrosh, Smita wore her saree throughout. But because we were not hesitant to lose our inhibitions, the lovemaking didn’t look contrived.”

SAB KUCH DIRTY HI HOGA
Om’s lovemaking sequence with Mallika Sherawat in Dirty Politics, left him unhappy with the way it was shot. “Ab agar film Dirty Politics hai, toh sab kuch dirty hi hoga,” he says wryly. He admits that the ‘hot’ scene left him cold and told director KC Bokadia to shoot it “sensibly". Supposedly, Ms Sherawat didn’t cooperate.

Dirty Politics banned by Patna High Court; release stayed by Bhanwari Devi's son

Subhash K Jha (DNA; March 5, 2015)

Days before its scheduled release on March 6, K C Bokadia’s Dirty Politics has run into legal trouble. On Tuesday, the Patna High Court issued a ban on the film for containing an objectionable shot of lead actress Mallika Sherawat draped in the tricolour.

But that isn’t where the producer-director’s troubles end. Slain nurse Bhanwari Devi’s son has obtained a stay order against the film in Rajasthan, alleging it is based on his mother’s life.

So, on Wednesday morning, Bokadia rushed to Patna for a hearing while his brother rushed to Rajasthan to combat the other legal tangle.

Says the producer, “My distributors are panicking. It’s just 48 hours before release and we’re faced with these problems. To top that, Holi holidays begin Thursday onwards. If I don’t meet my Friday release date, I’ll be in a financial mess.” He adds, “I’ve kept saying that Dirty Politics is not about Bhanwari Devi. If people still want to make presumptions, what can I do?”

Arvind Kejriwal had reluctantly turned down a role in Mallika Sherawat's Dirty Politics

When Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal first rose to prominence, many pointed out his political journey was the ideal recipe for a Bollywood potboiler. In fact, parallels were drawn between him and Anil Kapoor’s character in Nayak (2001).

It has emerged that post his 49- day stint as Delhi chief minister last year, he had been approached to play the lead in KC Bokadia’s film. However, he had to refuse the offer citing time constraints.

A source close to the film, Dirty Politics, reveals: “Bokadia saab had offered Kejriwal the film as it was loosely based on his phenomenal rise from common man to chief minister. After the narration, Kejriwal had liked the script, but excused himself saying he wanted to concentrate on party organisational work.
However, he did thank the director for writing his story and approaching him.” Eventually, the role went to Naseeruddin Shah.

The film, which is set to release soon, stars Mallika Sherawat as the female lead, besides Jackie Shroff, Om Puri and Anupam Kher in key roles.

The producer-director confirms the news, adding, “Yes, we had offered a role to Mr Kejriwal, but he could not allot dates to us. He congratulated us for the project, though. So, we approached Naseeruddin Shah. The film is inspired by him.”

Dirty Politics release postponed to March 6 to create more hype around the film?

Mallika Sherawat’s upcoming film, Dirty Politics, which is apparently inspired by the Bhanwri Devi murder case, has been pushed ahead by three weeks. Reason? Film promotions. The film, which was supposed to release on February 13, will now release on March 6. Director K C Bokadia says, “We want to create a hype around the film. The crew unanimously decided that releasing the film in a jiffy without proper promotions is a bad idea. Moreover, we didn’t want to clash with Badlapur and Roy.” Sources reveal that Mallika too wanted a new release date and will now shoot another song for the film.

Bokadia says, “The film has a political backdrop and we plan to release it during the long Holi weekend. That way, we think that it will do better business in the North. It will take a few days for us to shoot the added song and then we will promote the project.” Ask him if he ready to clash with three films — NH10, Bank Chor and Tigers — and he says, “As of now there is no confirmation of the other films releasing on the same day. Also, now that we have chosen the date, we will stick to it no matter what.”

Mallika Sherawat-starrer Dirty Politics passed with 'A' certificate and zero cuts

Joginder Tuteja (MUMBAI MIRROR; December 29, 2014)

Mallika Sherawat is controversy's favourite child. But a decade after Khwahish and its 17 kisses, it looked like the actress had exhausted her store of shocking antics.

However, recently the actress pulled a surprise during the promo launch of her next film, Dirty Politics. Replete with sexual innuendos, Mallika mouthing cuss words and a still of the actress sitting draped in nothing but the tricolour on a beaconed car, the trailer has plenty to raise eyebrows.

The actress plays Anokhi Devi, an item girl turned politician whose dialogue includes lines like, “Anokhi apna ghaaghra jhatkegi toh tere jaisa chalees ch***e niklenge.“ She also gyrates to a risqué track, Mere ghaaghre ke liye ghamasaan machi hai.

Now for the bigger surprise: The film has been passed with an 'A' certificate but without any cuts.

An official from the Censor Board, requesting anonymity, told Mirror, “There was a lot of uproar after the screening as the members couldn't agree on what to cut and what to retain. Finally, the film was sent to the revising committee and they decided to give it a go ahead without any cuts.“

The film's leading lady maintains that the film is rooted in real events and so needed to express the same. “The setting of the film demands that we portray exactly how men or women talk in small rural centres. My director (K C Bokadia) wanted to establish that milieu. Anokhi comes from a poor family, dances to make ends meet and then joins politics. The people she deals with require her to be free with her language. I am doing what the film requires of me and am comfortable with that,“ said Mallika.

And it is not just Mallika who is turning the air blue. Internationally renowned actor Om Puri, who plays a politician being blackmailed by Mallika after a one-night stand, states, “Ek baar so kya liya, jaan par ban aayi bh****'.“

The film boasts other notable names like Naseeruddin Shah, Anupam Kher and Jackie Shroff.

Mallika Sherawat's Dirty Politics poster to be removed; producer says it was 'leaked'

Subhash K Jha (DNA; August 19, 2014)

Those who have taken offence to Mallika Sherawat draped in the tricolour for a poster, can breathe easy. The image is being revised, with one of the three colours being wiped out.

Mallika and controversies go hand-in-hand. One theory doing the rounds about the current controversy while promoting Dirty Politics is that she masterminded the scheme to get attention without consulting the film’s producer-director KC Bokadia.

He, however, stoutly defends his heroine. “The campaign was planned. Nowadays, women wear the tri-colour in various forms. You see them everywhere on the streets. Just because it’s Mallika Sherawat, there is hue and cry.”

The new development on this front is that the one of the colours from the tricolour is being removed. Informs Bokadia, “We shot two versions of the first look with Mallika in a tri-colour and bi-colour costume. We will have only two colours in the costume she wears for the first poster that comes out.” He insists Mallika’s tri-colour look was ‘leaked’. “We never intended to put it in the public domain,” asserts Bokadia.

Yeah, sure.

Mallika Sherawat's bold tricolour poster creates a stir

BOMBAY TIMES (June 1, 2014)

Mallika Sherawat seems to have done it again - stepped right into a controversy, that is. And this time, she is all set to raise the political tempera ture with the first-look poster of her upcoming flick, Dirty Politics. The poster shows Mallika sitting on top of an Ambassador with a beacon, outside the State Legislative Assembly of Rajasthan, hold ing a CD in her hand, and draped only in the tricolour.
Filmmaker K C Bokadia says, “Workers of a political party from Rajasthan are putting pressure on me to change the tricolour into some other scrap of fabric."
The poster is provocative, admits Bokadia, and since the film is said to be based on the Bhanwari Devi sex scandal, a political party got to know about it. And though tricolour dresses have always led to controversy for the wearer in the past, this time, Bokadia says it is not essentially an Indian flag since there is no Ashoka Chakra in the centre. “It has nothing to do with the tricolour, nor is it any political party's symbol. It is just a piece of cloth in three different colours. I am just a filmmaker using my creativity to put forth my point of view. As far as guidelines are concerned, the poster will be censored according to the Indian Motion Picture Producers Association's guidelines"

Mallika Sherawat to go all out to promote her only (& perhaps last) Hindi film?

Subhash K Jha (DNA; May 7, 2014)

Producer-director KC Bokadia has decided to cash on his leading lady Mallika Sherawat’s voluptuary quotient in Dirty Politics by shooting an extra item song.

Mallika, whose box-office status in Bollywood is dodgy and dubious, has apparently pinned all her hopes on Dirty Politics to revive her slumping career. With much-hyped films about female politicians/activists Gulab Gang and Revolver Rani not doing well at the BO, Mallika and Bokadia have reason to feel panicky.

Says a source close to the project, “Mallika rang up Bokadia. She told him she was willing to go to any length to ensure the film works. Since films about female netas — covered from head to toe — don’t work, both Bokadia and Mallika have decided their film needs that extra dash of oomph. The images of her in Dirty Politics, clad in a demure sari, have not gone down well with distributors. They want that spicy Mallika ka tadka.”

So now a sizzling song and dance is being added to Dirty Politics, though it isn’t clear how that fits in with the image of the Rajasthani politician that the actress plays. Bokadia says, “Since Mallika, who has a sexy image, is playing a politician we’ve decided to add a lot of oomph. She surrendered completely to my film and told me, ‘Bokadia saab, aapko joh bhi pehnana hai ya nahin pehnana hai, main sab kuch karne ko tayaar hoon’.  This film will mark the return of Mallika Sherawat just as my Phool Bane Angaaray brought Rekha back after some serious image damage.”
