I have a knack of putting myself in danger-Amit Sadh

‘I HAVE A KNACK OF PUTTING
MYSELF IN DANGER’
Syeda Eba Fatima (HINDUSTAN TIMES; September 3, 2023)

On a humid afternoon in Delhi with clouds playing hide and seek, actor Amit Sadh joined HT City on his bike as he completed the first phase of his month-long biking trip — Motorcycles Saved My Life. And the journey, he reveals, has been far from easy.

“On the very first day, after being on the bike for over 10 hours, I asked myself, ‘Why am I doing it?’ But then I passed a beautiful canal. The breeze, the sunset, a nice terrain to ride... I had answers to all my questions,” says the 40-year-old, who left Mumbai on August 25 and has crossed Ahmedabad, Jodhpur, Delhi and Chandigarh, enroute to Leh (Ladakh).

Risk, no risk
“I have a knack of putting myself in danger,” quips Sadh, who has faced several life-threatening situations in his 25 years of biking. “In 2017, I was on my way to Manali, for which one has to cross Chang La (situated at an elevation of 17,688 feet). At that time, it was fully covered with snow and the temperature was minus 17 degrees. Nobody travels on that route during that time... As soon as we left, my bike slipped and then my friend’s bike slipped, followed by a puncture. As a result, we had to stay for a night there because the vehicle could not get fixed. Thankfully, the locals helped and we could move the next morning,” he recounts.

A cathartic activity
Sadh took a liking to adventure activities when he was just about five years old. Now, any free time he gets, he is ready to vroom. “That’s how much I love bike riding. It’s also my way of connecting back with life. I’ve not even finished this trip and have already planned my next one,” the Jeet Ki Zid (2021) actor says.

Passion aside, he also ensures he’s adequately prepped. Sadh, who has been to California Riding School, shares, “I’ve been to schools around the world to learn how to ride on mud, in snow etc. So, it’s also about testing my skills. While the reason for riding can be emotional, when I am on the bike, I keep my emotions aside and execute with discipline, knowledge and instincts to minimize the risk.”

LESSONS LEARNT
Reflecting on all the biking expeditions he has been on so far, Sadh says these experiences of riding through different terrains and meeting new people have made him the person he is today. Citing a recent example, he shares, “On my way to Delhi this time, I met a truck driver at a dhaba and he told me about his life and I told him about what I’m doing. More than anything, these experiences keep me grounded. They make me fall in love with everything around me. They teach me discipline and resilience. I’m a product of all these experiences.”

Parineeti Chopra, Raghav Chadha to tie the knot at Priyanka Chopra, Nick Jonas's wedding venue?

Parineeti Chopra, Raghav Chadha to tie the knot at Priyanka Chopra, Nick Jonas's wedding venue?

Sources inform that Parineeti Chopra and Raghav Chadha will tie the knot at Priyanka and Nick’s wedding venue, the Umaid Bhavan Palace in Jodhpur
Upala KBR (MID-DAY; June 11, 2023)

Wedding shenanigans go on until D-Day. Parineeti Chopra and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Raghav Chadha, who had a dreamy engagement on May 13, have been scouting venues for some time. The couple was seen visiting a few palace hotels in Rajasthan last month. Sources reveal that the wedding festivities will begin by October-end, spilling into the first week of November.

While rumours have been rife that the couple were considering getting married at the Oberoi Udaivilas Palace in Udaipur, a source informs, “The Umaid Bhavan Palace, in Jodhpur is a strong option too. It is known to be the biggest palace in India, with spacious air-conditioned rooms and suites designed for royalty.”

Coincidentally, the Umaid Bhavan Palace was also the venue of Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Nick Jonas’s wedding in 2018, which is rumoured to have cost about Rs. 3 crores.

“The sangeet and mehendi ceremonies will take place at the palace hotel, followed by an intimate party with close friends and relatives. After the wedding, two receptions will be held, one and Delhi and the other in Mumbai. While Priyanka and Nick’s wedding was a grand one, Parineeti and Raghav’s nuptials will be an intimate affair, with attendance only from a few people from Bollywood. Parineeti is organizing every tiny detail herself,” the source adds.

On the work front, Chopra has Shiddat 2, which she will wrap up right before the wedding. The actor will pick up Imtiaz Ali’s Chamkila after a two-week break in November.

Actor Parineeti Chopra and politico Raghav Chadha’s frenetic venue search hints at a big fat Indian wedding
Navya Kharbanda (HINDUSTAN TIMES; June 11, 2023)

Actor Parineeti Chopra and politician Raghav Chadha are busy scouting the perfect venue for their wedding in Rajasthan. They were spotted at Jaipur airport in May and stayed with their families in Udaipur for a few days as they carried out their recce.

While a recent report claims that the couple, who got engaged on May 13, have finalised The Oberoi Udaivilas in Udaipur for the wedding, we have learnt from our sources that the couple is still on the hunt.

“Nothing has been confirmed so far. They did not like the room size at Udaivilas, and the room inventory (87 rooms) wasn’t sufficient either. Taj Lake Palace, too, didn’t make it to the shortlisted venues for the latter reason. They might pick any of these for the wedding functions, but all the guests cannot be accommodated here. So, it’s clear that their guest list is not small and it’s going to be a big fat wedding,” the source says, adding that the couple has shortlisted two properties in Jaipur (Sawai Man Mahal and Rambagh Palace) and Udaipur (Taj Aravali and Mementos) each.

The couple will tie the knot on October 28 or 29, according to sources. “Their family and close relatives from the engagement will be there for the wedding. There will be two receptions, one for Parineeti’s extended family from Ambala (Chandigarh) and one for the film fraternity (Mumbai),” says the source.

Meanwhile, the couple has been spending time in London together. A picture of them watching the India vs Australia World Test Championship final at the Oval was shared widely by Chopra’s fan clubs. The couple has previously attended IPL 2023 matches in Mohali too. A photo of Chadha and Chopra posing with a fan in the UK capital (below) also went viral.

Jodhpur man detained for threat to Salman Khan’s assistant

Salman Khan threat case: ‘Agla number tera hai, tu kabhi Jodhpur aake dikha’

V Narayan (THE TIMES OF INDIA; March 27, 2023)

Mumbai: Bandra police detained a 21-year-old man from Jodhpur for allegedly sending a threat email to the personal assistant of actor Salman Khan on March 18. The accused, Dhakad Ram Bishnoi (in left pic), will be arrested once the team reaches Mumbai; they left Rajasthan on Sunday.

Dhakad sent the mail impersonating gangster Lawrence Bishnoi’s associate Goldy Bhai alias Goldy Brar, the police said. Dhakad mailed the threat after gangster Bishnoi, in an interview from jail three days back, said the goal of his life was to eliminate Salman Khan. He said that the matter will onlyend after the actor apologises to the Bishnoi community for allegedly killing a blackbuck.”

Minutes after Mumbai police took Dhakad’s custody, a team from Punjab police reached the same place to arrest him as he was allegedly involved in issuing another threat last week to slain Punjabi rapper Sidhu Moose Wala’s father Balkaur Singh, asking him not to mention Lawrence Bishnoi’s name or he would be ‘killed’.

Soon after the threat mail complaint received from the actor's friend Prashant Gunjalkar (49), director of a talent management agency in the entertainment industry, Bandra police registered a first information report against gangster Bishnoi, his aide Brar, and the sender of the mail Rohit Garg.

A police officer confirmed TOI on Sunday: “In the threat mail case registered at Bandra police station on March 18, one accused has been detained from Rajasthan.” Dhakad sent the two emails after gangster Bishnoi’s interview from jail was aired, giving warnings to actor Salman Khan and late singer Moosewala’s father Balkaur Singh.

Bandra police team tracked down Dhakad through technical assistance after they got hold of the internet protocol (IP) address that showed his location in Rohicha Kallan, a village in Luni tehsil of Jodhpur district.

“The Mumbai police can provide the exact motive behind Dhakad’s sending the threat emails to actor Salman Khan and later singer Moose Wala’s father. . . . It is unclear if Dhakad has any link to gangster Bishnoi,” said DCP Gaurav Yadav.

Police believe gangster Lawrence Bishnoi is looking to extort money from star and also frighten other celebrities
Faizan Khan (MID-DAY; March 27, 2023)

Actor Salman Khan, who has been repeatedly threatened by incarcerated gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, received yet another email on March 23, warning him of an assault akin to that on Punjabi singer Sidhu Moose Wala. The Mumbai police are looking into the email sent to Salman Khan Films, the actor’s production house, and have detained a person in connection with it from Rajasthan. This is the fourth threat issued by the Bishnoi gang to Khan, the police said. The Mumbai police believe that the gangster is making threats to Khan in order to extort money from him and to frighten other celebrities into paying.

‘You are next’
An individual whose email id says ‘Dhakad,’ allegedly sent an email to Salman Khan Films, whose email address is available on its website. “Agla number tera hai tu tayyaar reh, tera haal bhi Sidhu Moose Wala jaisa hoga, tu kabhi Jodhpur aake dikha, Bishnoi gang dekhlegi tujhe... Agla number 13 hai tu Jodhpur aa,” the email reads. The Bandra police have been informed about the same, and a case has been registered against unknown persons and gang leader Lawrence Bishnoi.

The Bandra police, in a joint operation with Rajasthan police, detained an accused, Dhakad Ram Bishnoi, from Jodhpur on Sunday. “In the threat mail case registered at Bandra police station, one accused has been detained from Rajasthan by Bandra police for inquiry,” said Anil Paraskar, DCP, Zone 09. The cops are verifying if the accused is associated with the Bishnoi gang and sent the threat on the leader’s instructions.

The earlier email threat is still being probed by the police. The cops have found that Dhakad Ram has earlier sent a threatening email to Moose Wala’s father. On March 19, a similar email was sent to a close friend and associate of Khan, Prashant Gunjalkar, by one Mohit Garg, who claimed that the Canada-based gangster Goldy Brar wanted to speak to Khan and that he (Salman) must have seen the interview of Lawrence, which he had given to a TV channel from the prison.

The sender also said that if Khan hasn’t watched the interview, “make him watch it, and if you want to close that matter, speak to Goldy Brar face to face. This time we are informing you; next time we won’t,” the email said. The Mumbai police then registered a case against Garg, Lawrence and Brar at the Bandra police station. The crime branch was also investigating the case and found that the email was issued from London. While the cops have not received any further clue in the first threat, this second threat via email was issued to Khan on March 23.

Attempt by Bishnoi gang?
The Mumbai police suspect it is an attempt by the Bishnoi gang to extort money from the actor by giving him continuous threats and terrorizing others in order to extort money. “Both the cases are being probed, and since the gangster is already in jail, we will take custody of him if our investigation confirms that the threat has been issued on his directions,” an officer of the Mumbai police said.

“The gangster has created panic among celebrities after the assassination of Moose Wala, and by issuing threats to Salman Khan, they only want to extort money. This is what we suspect,” an officer added. The Mumbai police have already provided Khan Y-plus security based on threats issued by the Bishnoi gang last June, when his father Salim Khan found a threat note while out on a walk. Mumbai Police Commissioner Vivek Phansalkar recently reviewed Khan’s security cover and has directed the city police to further tighten his security.

Don’t take Bishnoi’s name: Moose Wala’s father
The father of the late Punjabi rapper Sidhu Moose Wala, Balkaur Singh, on Sunday alleged that he was threatened once again through an email saying he would be killed soon. “I’ve received threats on email from Rajasthan saying that I’ll be killed soon, so don’t take Lawrence Bishnoi’s name”, alleged Moosewala’s father.

Previously too, Singh had alleged that he was threatened and said that he will be killed before April 25. “What wrong am I doing? Should I not fight my son’s case? I was threatened on February 18, 24 and 27 that I will be killed before April 25...I would like to tell the government, to take back my security, I will continue to fight,” he added.

According to the police, a case has been registered against unknown people for threatening Moose Wala’s father. On March 7, Singh held a protest outside the Punjab Assembly and demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) investigation into the murder of his son.

Speaking to media persons, Singh said no investigation is happening in his favour. Sidhu Moose Wala, 28, was shot dead on May 29 last year in Mansa, a day after the state government curtailed his security cover.

It is exciting for me that people go back and re watch my films to get them-Christopher Nolan

Christopher Nolan understands that packing so much information in his films tends to get overwhelming for the audiences but adds, ‘hopefully, we put things there which people might notice in the second or third viewing’
Juhi Chakraborty (HINDUSTAN TIMES; December 12, 2020)

His cinematic style is distinct, with complicated narratives, often featuring the oscillation between different time frames — all this is the reason why Christopher Nolan has taken the modern day cinematic landscape by storm and earned a much deserved fan base. While his oeuvre is impressive, he credits it to his amazing team. The filmmaker, whose film Tenet released in India, understands that packing so much information in his films tend to get overwhelming for the audiences but adds, “hopefully, we put things there which people might notice in the second or third viewing.”

You shot portions of The Dark Knight Rises (2012) in Jodhpur and shot in Mumbai for Tenet. What brought you back to shoot in India?
I had a fantastic experience working with the local crew while shooting for The Dark Knight Rises. Then, I got an opportunity to come to Mumbai a few years ago, where we did a forum about future of cinema and I was struck by Mumbai and the look of the place, textural and architectural styles and the history in every angle of the city. As a filmmaker, it really excites your imagination and it left me wanting to come back with a camera and crew. I think the aerial view and the whole landscape that we added of the city in Tenet are one of the most fantastic visuals of the film.

Your films have complicated ideas. How challenging is it to adapt them for celluloid and make them simple for the audiences?
The process for me is a lot of time. I do a lot of diagrams. I need to know what the genre is. In Tenet, the important part was looking at the spy film genre, looking at the James Bond films I grew up watching. I thought to myself, ‘okay, how can I use the genre, and how can it help me take the audience on this journey’.

A Nolan film typically means one watch is never enough and people have to go back again and again to join the dots…
For me, it is very exciting that people go back and re-watch my films again and again to get them. As long as I have done my job of giving the first time viewer an exciting and entraining experience, I am happy. If I can’t entertain people the first time around, then I don’t think they’ll be interested in coming back. I take years to work on the stuff and I have a lot of people helping me do it. There are a lot of ideas that go into my films and the audience has only two-and-half hours to take away. Hopefully, we put things there which people might notice in the second or third viewing.

The casting in your films continues to be intriguing. How do you zero down on your cast?
I try to not write with actors in mind as that would be limiting for actors. I try to write the character on page and don’t let real actors be a factor. When I finish the script, I have this amazing moment of looking at the performances of so many talented actors and think about what this actor could bring. Be it John David Washington, Dimple Kapadia, Robert Pattinson, Elizabeth Debicki, these are all people I knew would take what I had written and make it so much more real.

You did a cohesive and successful job with the Batman franchise. Would you go back to directing superhero films?
I don’t think so. It was a privilege to work with that character but it was 10 years of my life. I have other types of stories to tell as filmmaker.

Blackbuck poaching case: Salman Khan gets exemption from court appearance

Salman Khan
MUMBAI MIRROR (December 2, 2020)

Actor Salman Khan was on Tuesday given exemption from appearance by a court in Jodhpur during the hearing of an appeal by him against the five-year sentence in the October 1998 blackbuck poaching case.

Additional District and Sessions Judge Brajesh Panwar granted the relief after Khan’s counsel cited the “rising” number of Coronavirus cases in Mumbai and Jodhpur and said that travelling for the hearing could be risky for the actor. Khan’s counsel, H M Saraswat, had moved the application on Tuesday.“Accepting our ground, the court allowed our application for exemption from appearance and listed the matter for hearing on January 16,” he said.

Before the Coronavirus lockdown in March, the court had directed Khan to appear for the hearing.

The actor was sentenced to five years of imprisonment by a trial court on April 5, 2018, after being convicted of poaching a blackbuck, an endangered animal. Khan had challenged the judgment in the Jodhpur district and sessions court and sought suspension of the sentence. Later, he was granted bail by the court. His co-accused in the case, actors Saif Ali Khan, Tabu, Sonali Bendre and Neelam were acquitted by the trial court on the grounds of benefit of doubt. The state government has challenged their acquittal.

How the beautiful lyrics in 'Yeh Duniya Agar Mil Bhi Jaaye' from Pyaasa came to life

Roshmila Bhattacharya (MUMBAI MIRROR; March 11, 2020)

When I think of lyricist Sahir Ludhianvi, who would have turned 99 on March 8, my thoughts invariably turn to composer Sachin Dev Burman. The duo won the Baazi for Guru Dutt with “Tadbeer Se Bigdi Hui Taqdeer Bana Le” which introduced me to the magic of Geeta Dutt. It took a few years and a little maturity for me to appreciate the magic of Sahir too. And once I did, I never fell out of love.

Years ago, when discussing the song, Baazi’s actor-producer Dev Anand saab recalled how people would stop by the Air Force station in Jodhpur, just to hear it. Sahir saab, however, was upset because the makers took his philosophical meanderings literally and set his ghazal in a gambling den, with Geeta Bali pulling at the heartstrings. I believe the setting brought out profound depths in lines like, “Kya Khaak Woh Jeena Jo Apne Hi Liye Ho, Khud Mitt Ke Kissi Aur Ko Mittne Se Bacha Le.”

Dada Burman and Sahir saab collaborated on several films between 1951 and 1957, till the latter reportedly severed the bond with a wayward comment that Pyaasa, a Guru Dutt classic revolving around a poet and a prostitute, owed its success to his lyrics. I can understand why this would upset the composer, but there’s no denying that the full range of his poetry was showcased in this 10-song score, from the trippy “Sar Jo Tera Chakraye” to the seething “Jaane Woh Kaise Log The” and the yearning of “Aaj Saajan Mohe Ang Laga Lo”. But the film’s writer, Abrar Alvi, had a problem with the imagery inherent in “Yeh Mahalon, Yeh Takhton, Yeh Taajon Ki Duniya”. Before going in for a surgery, Abrar saab had outlined the situation to the lyricist, explaining that the poet-protagonist suddenly returns to life on his first death anniversary, to give a biting reply to his publisher’s eulogy. Derided, disillusioned and given up for dead, Vijay finally finds the true poet in himself with this song.

He was delighted when Guru Dutt ji told him that Sahir saab had come up with a beautiful song, but when he played it for him in hospital, Abrar saab clutched his head in despair, pointing out that three years ago all princely states had been abolished and there were no mahals, takhts and tajs left. “We have to get a new song,” he urged. When Guru Dutt ji admitted they’d already recorded it, Abrar saab, a wordsmith himself, rewrote the eulogy which preceded the song. Rahman, the wily publisher, tells those who’d assembled to commemorate the poet, that had Vijay still been alive, he’d have moved him from the lanes reeking of poverty to a palace full of riches, coronated him with a crown of fame and seated him on the throne of their hearts. Hyperbole perhaps, but a masterstroke nevertheless, it ensured that “Yeh Mahalon” fit into the story and made a place in Hindi film history.

In recent times, if anyone has shared my fascination for Sahir saab’s nazms, it’s Irrfan Khan. While growing up, he had little interest in verse and wasn’t allowed to watch films. But while at the National School of Drama, Irrfan developed an interest in both. After that, it was inevitable that he’d discover Sahir. One night while rhapsodising over Gumrah’s “Chalo Ek Baar Phir Se Ajnabi Ban Jayein Hum Dono” he pointed out that, as an actor, he had never followed any rules. “I follow stories and characters, which makes me feel good about myself. I guess there’s a Sahir-ian in me too,” he laughed, admitting that his dream project would be a Sahir Ludhianvi biopic.

They say that when you want something from the heart, the universe conspires to give it to you. Ashi Dua approached Irrfan to play the poet of his dreams in a film revolving around Sahir and Amrita Pritam’s love story. “Ever since I heard about the project, I was wondering why they were not coming to me with it. It’s the role I have been waiting for a long time,” a visibly delighted Irrfan, told me over the phone soon after he had bagged it.

The project hit a roadblock… But the book on Sahir’s poetry stayed on the table in Irrfan’s home. The next time we met, there was talk of him playing the poet in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Gustaakhiyaan. “I’m hoping it finally happens,” he told me fervently. “Kya gaane likhe the!”

The film was supposed to end with Sahir saab’s famous lines, “Kabhi Kabhi Mere Dil Mein Khayaal Aata Hai.” Irrfan confided that just that morning in the shower, while ruminating on another film, he was wondering why he couldn’t recite these very lines in that film. But, how would you justify it, I protested, remembering Abrar saab’s dilemma. With his wry, trademark grin he replied, “I guess I’m always looking for excuses to recite those lines. Yeh line toh mujhe bolna hi hai, if not on screen, I will record it and put it up on YouTube. They resonate with the love Sahir believed in, the love I believe in.”

It’s been 40 years since Sahir saab left us, and four years since that conversation with Irrfan. His verse still resonates with me, and I think with Irrfan as well. So, it’s only fitting that I conclude this tribute with his own verse from Dev saab’s Munimji …

Jeevan Ke Safar Mein Rahi Milte Hain Bichhad Jaane Ko Aur De Jaate Hain Yaadein Tanhayi Mein Tadpane Ko…

Andie MacDowell to take masterclass at 25th Kolkata International Film Festival

The Four Weddings And A Funeral, Sex, Lies, and Videotape actress visits Mumbai and Rajasthan on her trip
Avinash Lohana (MUMBAI MIRROR; November 2, 2019)

Mumbai seems to have become the hot favourite for Hollywood stars. Acclaimed filmmaker Christopher Nolan was in the Maximum City for a week in September with his actors John David Washington and Robert Pattinson to shoot Tenet. Now, we hear American actress Andie MacDowell paid a visit earlier this week.

According to a source close to the development, the actress who has featured in films like Four Weddings And A Funeral and Sex, Lies and Videotape, landed on Tuesday. “Besides sight-seeing, she met Shivendra Singh Dungarpur and has extended support to his Film Heritage Foundation as well as a film preservation and restoration workshop, to be held in Hyderabad next month. On Friday, she was in Jodhpur and will next be visiting Udaipur and Dungarpur,” the source informed.

On November 8, she will be in Kolkata to attend a film festival as the guest of honour. “A masterclass with Andie is scheduled to take place at the event where she is expected to speak on her career, philanthropy and also her daughter Margaret Qualley, who was recently seen in the Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt-starrer Once Upon a Time in Hollywood,” the source revealed.

The actress, 61, shared an image from her visit to the Elephanta island near Mumbai, describing it as “beautiful ancient ruins from the 14th century man-made caves”. She was equally enamoured by Jodhpur. “Overwhelming beauty and at the same time a place of need. My senses are blown. I have a deep love and empathy for everyone that lives here. I open my heart to experience every portion of the country… (sic)” she noted.

Roasting is not my thing-Vir Das

As he embarks on a journey to find what makes India laugh, with Jestination Unknown, comedian Vir Das reflects on what he doesn't find funny
Sonia Lulla (MID-DAY; October 20, 2019)

An Amazon Prime offering that released on Friday, a Netflix special to his name, and several years as a successful comic behind him, Vir Das, it appears, would know enough about what makes India laugh. Yet, when we ask him what prompted his latest endeavour, Das replies, "I'm just having fun."

Having embarked on a six-city tour with artistes Shruti Seth, Ashwin Mushran and Suresh Menon for Jestination Unknown, Das says he lived off the adrenaline rush. "We had to get to the city [in time], meet folks, write jokes on the go, and set up and market the show. All I told my research team was that they should get me food and interaction with the locals."

While unearthing facts about a city—a scene in Batman was shot in Jodhpur; the Mehrangarh fort is impenetrable, and that the Patiala peg was introduced by a king who had 300 wives—implies that Das had relatable content when scripting his jokes, it also meant that the crew was often left scurrying to source costumes at the last moment. "When you're doing something on the spot, it doesn't always turn out great. It is reality TV, so, if the joke doesn't work, it doesn't work. But it's still watchable [as compared to other shows]."

On his part, Das says poking fun at his audience is not a style of comedy he enjoys. "Roasting is not my thing. I'll get nervous making fun of a front-row guy; he would be nervous too, and that's not a good interaction."

Men threatening Salman Khan arrested

Salman Khan
Cops nab duo who threatened Salman Khan for publicity amidst him skipping hearing in black-buck poaching case
MID-DAY (October 4, 2019)

Two men have been arrested in connection with a life threat to Salman Khan, the police said yesterday. As per the cops, the duo, identified as Jagdish and Jeki, have admitted that they threatened the actor to gain popularity among people. On September 16, a threat post on Facebook by an account named Gary Shooter carried a photo of Khan with a red cross, and read, "Salman, think, you can save yourself from Indian law, however, Vishnoi Samaj and Sopu Party has announced death sentence for you. You are an accused in Sopu’s court. Salaam sahid da nu; Respect girls; Save animals; Avoid drugs and help poors; Sukha kahlon Garry (sic)".

The post had appeared before the actor’s scheduled hearing in the Jodhpur court on September 27, in association with the long-running black-buck killing case. "Two people have been arrested. After interrogating them, we came to know that it was only to gain cheap popularity. The accused were a part of a car theft ring," Praveen Acharya, circle inspector at Chopasani police station, said.

Khan, who is accused in the black-buck poaching case, had skipped the Jodhpur court’s hearing on the said day. In 1998, Khan, Saif Ali Khan, Sonali Bendre, Tabu, Neelam Kothari and a local Dushyant Singh had allegedly killed two blackbucks in Jodhpur during the shooting of his 1999 blockbuster Hum Saath Saath Hain.

There's grammar to writing a script-Sumeet Vyas

Sumeet Vyas: There's grammar to writing scripts
Tripling star Sumeet Vyas to spearhead screenwriting course for Jodhpur colleges
Mohar Basu (MID-DAY; June 22, 2019)

His flourishing career as an actor aside, Sumeet Vyas has displayed his mastery over writing with sharply scripted offerings that include Tripling and Love Per Square Foot (2018). It is not surprising then that the web sensation has been invited by several institutes in Jodhpur to spearhead writing courses for aspiring screenwriters.

A source reveals, "Jodhpur is Sumeet's hometown. Seeing the popularity that his shows have attained, various colleges in the city approached him to give shape to writing courses. The actor has begun his discussions with the institutes and is expected to shape the syllabus by August. It may not be possible for him to tutor the students on a daily basis owing to his busy schedule, but he will conduct regular lectures while entrusting the daily functioning to the respective college's faculty. As of now, the colleges are eyeing to kick-start the course by early next year."

Confirming the news, Vyas says, "There's grammar to writing a script. Even if you choose to break the form, you should know the basics first. If my guidance can be of any help, it'll be the best way to acknowledge the love I receive from Rajasthan."

I had planned to shoot the film in Jodhpur, but I changed my mind when I saw Mumbai-Ken Scott

Rachana Dubey (BOMBAY TIMES; June 7, 2019)

Canadian director Ken Scott has a unique connection with India. His 2011 film, Starbuck, inspired Shoojit Sircar’s Vicky Donor. Years later, in 2017, he arrived in India to make a film with Dhanush, titled The Extraordinary Journey Of The Fakir, a French-English language film. The comedy-adventure, based on Romain Puertolas’ novel, The Extraordinary Journey Of The Fakir Who Got Trapped in an Ikea Wardrobe, released in a couple of European countries in 2018, and is now gearing up to open in India, the USA and Canada among other countries. The director spoke to BT about how this project came his way and his experience of shooting in India. Excerpts:

You’ve partially shot The Extraordinary Journey Of The Fakir in India. Did you ever visit the country before working on the film?
No, I hadn’t been to India before. My first visit was during the pre-production process of the film. Initially, I had planned to shoot it in Jodhpur, but I changed my mind when I saw Mumbai. The production team took me to a beautiful neighbourhood in Worli, which I felt was an excellent setting for our story. The alleys, the houses and the surroundings were just so beautiful. The film is about a boy who grows up in a small neighbourhood in the city, and how his circumstances introduce him to the rest of his city and the world at large.

What drew you to the film?
Producer Luc Bossi asked me if I would be interested in directing it. After that, I read the book and was charmed by the fact that it has a heart, an unexpected set of twists, and a comic, poignant and philosophical story. All these elements work really well in the novel, and so I agreed to direct it. It’s the kind of mix that I gravitate towards. I worked on the script with the novelist and the producer. And then, I came to India for the first time. When I was a student at a film school, a professor had told us that if we want success, we should write about things that we know. I disagreed with him. We should also write about the things we want to know. I was passionate about discovering India. That made the journey of this film extremely interesting for me.

What did you discover about India?
I feel that people here are happy, come what may. Everyone seems to be content. Yes, being in Mumbai can be a little crazy, especially when you take the roads. The experience is very different in Canada. I also realised that there are a lot of people in Mumbai and everyone gets just so close to you, something that I am not used to (smiles).

When did you meet Dhanush?
I met him in Chennai where he was shooting. We had an elaborate discussion about everything in the film that was important to both of us. I like to be absolutely prepared before I roll out a movie. Interacting with Dhanush made me realise that he was perfect for the part.

While the film releases in India two weeks later, it has already made its way to theatres in a few European countries last year. Doesn’t the delay increase the risk of the film being leaked online?
I agree that the film could have opened in India last year itself. While we were trying to coordinate and have a common release date for the movie in the US, UK, Canada and a couple of other countries, the French producers wanted to bring it out quickly in some places. As for the chances of the film being leaked, if it’s a good film, it will get positive word of mouth, which will help its box office chances. If it’s bad, it will get bad vibes.

The Extraordinary Journey of the Fakir, presented by Golden Ratio Films, produced by M! Capital Ventures, Little Red Car Films, Brio Films and Impact Films, and distributed by Anil Thadani’s AA Films in English and YNOTX in Tamil, releases on June 21.

Varun Dhawan and Natasha Dalal to get married in Jodhpur?

BOMBAY TIMES (May 26, 2019)

Though Varun Dhawan, in an interview, had said that his schedule doesn’t give him the time to plan a wedding this year, the buzz about the actor tying the knot with girlfriend Natasha Dalal at the end of this year is getting stronger. While there were rumours about Goa being the destination for the wedding, a source tells us that Jodhpur, Rajasthan, is where the shaadi may take place. Last December, Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas, too, had taken their vows in the Blue City.

The source says, “Varun and Natasha’s wedding will be a three-day affair with close friends and family in attendance. They want a November-December wedding, and the date will be finalised on the basis of the availability of the venue. Post the Jodhpur wedding, they will host a reception in Mumbai.”

It has always been a male-dominated workplace in all aspects, on and behind camera-Felicity Jones

Renuka Vyavahare (BOMBAY TIMES; December 17, 2018)

If her decade-old film career and choice of roles have to be summed up in one word of her choice, it has to be 'fantastic'. English actress Felicity Jones, who won an Oscar nomination for her portrayal of Jane Hawking, wife of the late physicist Stephen Hawking in The Theory Of Everything (2014), spoke to BT over the phone from Paris. During the chat, the actress revealed her ‘intimate’ Indian connect, why her upcoming film is extremely relevant, and how the #MeToo movement has created a stir. Excerpts...

We hear that you’ve been wanting to come to India for quite some time now...
I am hoping to come to India next year. Yes, I have been wanting to come there for a long time. I am very passionate about India. I am hoping to go to Jodhpur and Kerala, as these are the two places that people talk about with much fondness. So, I am interested in exploring these places.

You also share a unique bond with Indian food...
I grew up in Birmingham which is the home of the Balti (Birmingham’s favourite dish — Balti curry). It is inspired by the curry and it was a huge part of my cultural heritage while growing up. My family and I have enjoyed Indian food from our early days. There is a fantastic Indian vegetarian restaurant close to where I live and I spend my life there (laughs!). You will always find me in that restaurant. These are the intimate details of my life (laughs!).

You worked with Irrfan in Inferno (2016). He had mentioned that you are a great co-star. Tell us about it ...
Just the other day, I was talking about Irrfan to my husband, and telling him how he is such a brilliant actor. I hope to work with him again in the future.

You portray the iconic Ruth Ginsburg in your upcoming film, On The Basis Of Sex. She is passionate, driven, and relentless. What was it like to bring such a strong character to screen?
I was looking for a script like this. The moment I read it, I knew that it was something that I really believed in. I was very patient in order to find a role like this. It is unusual to get such a brilliant female character. Ruth symbolises female ambition and how women have brought about a change in our society.

Did the film help you decipher what feminism truly stands for, as there have been various interpretations of the word?
We are fighting for equal rights and both genders need to be respected. Be it equal pay or a fair workplace environment, people shouldn’t feel discriminated on the basis of their gender. There needs to be equal opportunities. For years, women have been discriminated against and it has been a long fight. Ruth gives us hope and inspiration to keep fighting so that women’s rights are defended.

As an actress in Hollywood, do you face any sort of discrimination?
Yes, definitely. In the sense, there’s still no 50-50 male-female ratio on the set. It has always been a male-dominated workplace in all aspects, on and behind the camera. We are hoping to see that shift. There is a slight modernising of the industry now, which has led to movements like #MeToo and #TimesUp. These movements are actually making the industry how it should be — establishing 50-50 parity in the world of men and women.

Can you elaborate? Is there any personal experience that you would like to share?
It is difficult for actresses as a lot of roles that I read, make me feel that this isn’t how women behave! Even when I first saw the auditioning process — girl 1, girl 2, girl 3... questions were less about their abilities and that needs to change. When it comes to writing roles for women, there’s a certain laziness to it. I hope to see a better representation of women on screen and especially, older actresses. Older women need to be represented on screen as much as the younger women.

Do you think the society is still way too judgemental towards women?
Yes, I think so. As you have seen with someone like Hillary Clinton and the uproar against her for just being a woman trying to be in a position of power. It is still very difficult. It will be fantastic if that changes. More women need to be encouraged to come into positions of power. Girl child’s education needs to be encouraged to make that shift. We need to work towards bringing in that balance.

How difficult is it for an actress to get quality roles in Hollywood?
It is much easier when you have done a film like Star Wars (the actress featured in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story), which has a global reach. It helps because you are then in a position to get finances and get the films made. If there’s anything that I aim for, it’s this. I am thankful to Star Wars. It was embraced globally and that is hugely satisfying for an artiste, as so much work goes into making a film, and our biggest reward is to be loved and accepted in different countries.

Your choices have been unique and a mix of commercial and independent cinema. What draws you to a role?
I need to be fascinated by the story and also feel that it will be relevant to the world. Can it generate enough interest for people to get out of their homes and watch a movie? That is the deciding factor for me while choosing a script.

The #MeToo movement sparked a change in Hollywood. And now, it’s taken India by storm. Your thoughts?
I have seen great changes happening because of it. My work environment has improved a lot. I feel that there is a lot of abusive power in the film industry and other industries and that is slowly changing. There is more transparency now. People can’t get away with abusive and bullying behaviour anymore and that’s tremendous. We have a long way to go and the fight needs to continue.

Exclusive details from Priyanka Chopra - Nick Jonas' Hindu wedding: From Parineeti's joota chuppai fee to groom's speech

Nayandeep Rakshit (DNA; December 4, 2018)

Nick Jonas and Priyanka Chopra’s lavish wedding at the Umaid Bhawan Palace was a beautiful blend of Indian and Western culture. The couple had a Christian wedding on December 1 followed by a Hindu ceremony the next day.

On Sunday evening, as the regal baraat procession reached the Baradari Lawns, Priyanka’s mom, Madhu, performed an aarti to welcome the groom. The men among the baraatis were dressed in sherwanis and Rajasthani saafas, while women wore lehenga-cholis. Before the wedding, PC’s cousin, Parineeti, hid Nick’s shoes as per the joota chupai ceremony and demanded Rs 5 lakh to return the same.

A source says, “Both the families accepted and followed each other’s customs wholeheartedly. During the Hindu wedding, Priyanka’s younger sibling, Siddharth, explained every ritual and its significance to Nick’s family. Siddharth and Nick’s brothers — Kevin, Joe and Frankie — also had a fun-filled competition where they picked up the bride and groom to a certain height, right before the varmalas (garlands) were exchanged.”

Nick was quite intrigued with the Hindu rituals. “When he was told that the saat pheras imply a vow taken by the bride and groom to spend seven lifetimes together, the latter exclaimed, ‘We should take seven more’. Everyone cheered after he made this remark.” Right after the wedding celebrations wrapped up, the American singer-songwriter also took the mic to give a short speech about his beloved wife, which left the latter teary-eyed. “He vowed to stay true to his promise and take care of her forever. At the end, PC was quite overwhelmed with Nick’s sweet gesture,” adds the source. After the nuptials, the guests partied till late.

Yesterday, both the families left for Delhi where Nickyanka will have their first reception tonight. A Bollywood reception is also on the cards, but the newlyweds are yet to lock in on a date and venue.

MUMBAI MIRROR (December 4, 2018)

After a three-day wedding celebration at Jodhpur’s Umaid Bhawan Palace, Priyanka Chopra arrived in Delhi with husband Nick Jonas on Monday. Dressed in a bottle-green sari that she paired with gold-rimmed cat-eye sunglasses, the new bride rounded off the look with sindoor even as Nick held her close for a quick photo-op at the airport. Mirror had earlier reported (November 29) that the couple wil have a weddign reception in Delhi today, and had arrived a day early for prep. On December 5, PeeCee is scheduled to attend an event in the Capital.

The #Nickyanka wedding, as it is being referred to by netizens, was at the receiving end of backlash for the use of fireworks. On Monday, animal rights organisation PETA raised concerns about the use of a horse and elephant at the nuptials. “Dear Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas. Elephants for weddings live in chains and horses are controlled with whips, spiked bits. People are rejecting elephant rides and having horse-free weddings. Congrats, but we regret it was not a happy day for animals,” PETA India posted on Twitter. Nick is said to have arrived on a horseback for the wedding.

From groom Nick crooning for bride at the white wedding to PeeCee’s emotional moment at the jaimala, mid-day brings you inside details from ‘global shaadi of the year’
Mohar Basu (MID-DAY; December 3, 2018)

After the elaborate mehendi and sangeet celebrations on Friday, the weekend saw India’s favourite export Priyanka Chopra tie the knot with beau Nick Jonas in two separate ceremonies — a Christian wedding and a Hindu wedding. The desi girl gave the Jonas family a taste of Indian tradition as she followed all the customs before taking the saat pheras yesterday at the Umaid Bhawan Palace in Jodhpur.

One of the guests told mid-day, “The functions started as early as 8 am yesterday. The ceremonies kicked off with a puja; Nick was intrigued as he joined his bride for the mauli ceremony [where the sacred thread is tied on the wrists of the groom and bride]. Priyanka’s brother Siddharth was constantly by the Jonases’ side, explaining the significance of each ritual to them. Priyanka even indulged in a quick haldi ceremony before enjoying the chura ceremony in the afternoon. As per the custom, her uncle gifted her 21 bangles which were bathed in milk and rose petals. Her friends, including Arpita Khan Sharma, Srishti Behl Arya, Anjula Acharia and cousin Parineeti Chopra, followed it up by tying kalide.”

The Hindu wedding started at 6 pm after the Sehrabandi puja, where a family member of the groom ties the turban. The source added, “A cheer went up among the guests as the bride and groom came face-to-face at the mandap. Priyanka teared up during the jaimala session.”

The guest reveals that the white wedding on Saturday was just as exquisite, with the groom dedicating a song to his better half. “The bride and the groom wrote their own vows. It was followed by a beautiful speech by Priyanka’s mother. PeeCee turned emotional during the speech as she missed her father sorely. ”

It is heard that the Christian wedding was followed by a five-course meal, prepared by chefs who were handpicked by the couple. “Since PeeCee loves flowers, each table was named after a specific flower.”

Troubled by trolls
Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas became man and wife on Saturday with the pop star's father Kevin Jonas officiating the Christian wedding. Shortly after the ceremony, the skies lit up with an extravagant display of fireworks. No sooner had the pictures gone viral on the Internet than netizens started trolling the couple. They called out Chopra for her ‘ hypocrisy’ since she was the face of an anti-pollution campaign during Diwali.

Celebrations of Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas’s wedding, which kickstarted on Thursday, culminated into Christian and Hindu-style weddings on Saturday and Sunday respectively in the garden of the Umaid Bhawan Palace in Jodhpur. Sangeet, one of the first ceremonies to take place, was held on Friday and themed ‘boys vs girls’ where members from both side of the families put their best foot forward. PeeCee’s dance with mom Madhu Chopra on “Ram Chahe Leela” from the film Goliyon Ki Rasleela Ram-Leela was a hit, while Dil Dhadakne Do’s “Gallan Goodiyaan” was the most played song at the party.

The bride’s actress-cousin Parineeti enacted her as part of her performance in two of the acts, while the bride and groom’s mothers spoke about their respective children. “It all began as a fierce song and dance competition between the families but ended, as always, as a huge celebration of love. Nick and I were looking forward to the sangeet, another pre-wedding ritual... and to see what each side had put together,” Priyanka stated, praising all the performances from the evening. “Each family telling our stories through song and dance, filled with lots of laughter and love. We were both filled with gratitude for the effort, the love and the laughter and will carry the memories of this special evening for the rest of our lives. It’s an amazing start to a lifetime of togetherness for our families and friends,” she added.

On Saturday, celebrations continued with the Christian wedding with Priyanka in a custom-made Ralph Lauren gown while Nick wore a Purple Label tuxedo. The designer had also dressed the wedding party – bridesmaids, including PeeCee’s manager Anjula Acharia, wore pink and the groomsmen were in black tuxedos. Scheduled to begin at 3 pm on Saturday, the Christian wedding commenced at around 4.30 pm and was officiated by Nick’s father Kevin Jonas Sr. It was followed by a family photo-op and the cake cutting ceremony. According to reports, Priyanka and Nick exchanged Chopard wedding rings and had a traditional first dance to Roberta Flack’s “First Time I Ever Saw Your Face”. “The families got emotional during the ceremony with several members giving speeches. The celebrations ending only around 11.30 pm,” informs a source. The newlyweds exited the venue in a classic red car owned by the hotel. A firecracker show and a lavish dinner, a mix of cuisines, served in a open space was also a part of the schedule.

Welcoming her ‘jiju’ into the Chopra fold, Parineeti shared, “The job of us bridesmaids was to make sure the bride was happy and comfortable at all times. But we did not have to worry about it because Nick promised to do it all his life.”

Sunday began with a Haldi and Choora ceremony at 12.30 pm. Women sported bracelets with ‘NP’ embossed on them while it was broaches with a similar design for the men. White curtains and marigold flowers lined the venue for the ceremony that went on for two hours and was followed by lunch inside a glass-roofed hall. The Indian wedding took place at the same location as the Christian ceremony with the couple exchanging varmalas and the baraat arriving at the venue later in the evening. “There is an after-party scheduled which was expected to go on till the early hours of the morning before the duo, along with their families and guests, bid goodbye to Jodhpur,” the source signs off.

Priyanka Chopra-Nick Jonas wedding: ‘I do’ on Saturday, saat pheras on Sunday

Neha Choudhary, Divya Kaushik and Ismat Tahseen (BOMBAY TIMES; December 3, 2018)

Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas are now officially wed – twice! The Bollywood-Hollywood power jodi took their vows on Saturday at Jodhpur’s Umaid Bhawan Palace in a Christian ceremony officiated by Nick’s father, Paul Kevin Jonas. Our sources tell us that the theme of the wedding was white and gold and the bride was dressed in a custom white Ralph Lauren gown, while the groom wore a tuxedo by the same designer.

According to sources, the wedding guests went sightseeing at Mehrangarh Fort earlier on Saturday. From the stalls selling traditional clothes and jewellery there, Sophie Turner picked up chaand balis which she wore for the mehendi.

Priyanka and Nick exchanged vows in the evening at Baradari Gardens, the open lawns at the palace, and the wedding was followed by a fireworks display and sit-down dinner with guests. White ruled the decor.

A source informs us, “There were white curtains and white centrepieces with flowers, and the seating for the guests was white too. The guests were requested not to wear white as the bride was going to be dressed in that colour.” While the bride was in white, the bridesmaids were in pastels. The source adds, “For the guests, including the bridesmaids, the theme was pastels. Priyanka’s bridesmaids were dressed in off-shoulder gowns in pastel shades of peach and pink.” Giving more details about Priyanka’s bridal gown, the source tells us, “Priyanka’s outfit was a beautiful and elaborate white gown with a long trail, almost 10 metres in length. Nick wore a white shirt with a purple tuxedo.”

“As the ceremony drew to a close, everyone gathered around and congratulated the couple. After the cake cutting, toasts were raised to Priyanka and Nick and there was a round of speeches, too. This was followed by a fireworks display. Guests went on to have dinner and celebrations continued till past 11pm,” adds the source.

The security for the wedding was tightened after an altercation between the security staff and the media earlier in the day. But the wait for Nickyanka’s wedding pictures was finally over when the actress shared some pictures from Friday’s mehendi ceremony on Instagram. Priyanka’s yellow and pink 48-kali lehenga was inspired by the colours of Rajasthan. “One of the most special things that our relationship has given us is a merging of families who love and respect each other’s faiths and cultures. And so planning our wedding with an amalgamation of both was so so amazing. An important part for the girl in an Indian wedding is the mehendi. Once again, we made it our own and it was an afternoon that kicked off the celebrations in the way we both dreamed,” Priyanka wrote in her Instagram post. In the pictures she shared, Priyanka could be seen chilling with her bridesmaids including Parineeti Chopra and Sophie Turner, and Nick’s mother Denise Miller Jonas, while Nick was having fun with his boy squad.

The Christian wedding on Saturday was followed by a haldi ceremony and a traditional Hindu wedding on Sunday. Buzz is that Priyanka and Nick will host two lavish receptions — one in Delhi on December 4, followed by another in Mumbai.

After a whirlwind romance, Nick Jonas and Priyanka Chopra are now man and wife. They had a Christian wedding yesterday afternoon. A source says, “Nick’s father, Paul Kevin Jonas Sr, officiated the ceremony, as per Christian norms. PC looked resplendent in a Ralph Lauren gown for the occasion and walked on a bed of flowers before saying ‘I do’. Nickyanka’s family members recreated their first date, in the latter half of the day.”

Keeping in sync with the theme of the nuptials, the Umaid Bhawan Palace in Jodhpur was decked up in white. “While the sangeet and mehendi ceremonies were on, the organisers had called for over 50 kilos of white flowers for the Christian wedding. Their family and friends raised a toast to them after the groom kissed the bride in front of everyone amidst loud cheers. PC’s mom Madhu, brother Siddharth and cousin Parineeti had some wonderful things to say post the wedding. Nick’s parents and brothers also shared some secrets about the pop singer-songwriter that left everyone in splits.” The contingent then celebrated PC and Nick’s union with a cocktail dinner.

PC-Nick will tie the knot once again today afternoon in a traditional Hindu ceremony at the palace’s Baradari Lawns. While reports have suggested that Priyanka will sport a stylish red ensemble by designer duo Abu Jani-Sandeep Khosla for her Hindu wedding ceremony, the presence of Sabyasachi Mukherjee at the nuptials has led to speculation that she may actually sport a traditional outfit designed by the latter. The white floral decorations will be replaced with colourful blooms that have been brought in from different parts of Jodhpur. The mandap will be around 40-feet high with the Mehrangarh Fort as the backdrop. The newly-married jodi will host a lavish party tonight for the guests and will fly to Delhi tomorrow for the first reception, which is scheduled on Tuesday evening.

A WELCOME KIT AND AN NDA
Security has been beefed up at the heritage hotel for Nick and PC’s shaadi. Nita, Isha, Anant and Mukesh Ambani along with Reshma Merchant (Anant’s friend) arrived in Jodhpur on Friday.

Meanwhile, Akash Ambani and fiancĂ©e Shloka Mehta along with to-be brother-in-law Anand Piramal landed in the Blue City on Saturday. Each guest arriving at the venue has to show their invitation card to get access to the hotel . Our source added, “They were welcomed amidst the traditional dhol and shehnai with a Rajasthani folk dance performance (kalbelia) and a welcome drink (a glass of champagne), followed by a kit that the lovebirds had arranged. It included the entire itinerary along with a wedding brief for their guests to understand the ceremonies that they were getting ready to witness. The couple handed guests a box of treats (that included Indian spices and eatables) along with a guide that had detailed information about the city and more. As per the Indian custom, they have also gifted them silver coins with the images of Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Ganesha. A wishing well has also been set up where the attendees can hang their greetings.” Nick and Priyanka’s initials (NP) have been installed at various places at the venue. None of the guests were aware about the functions before heading to Jodhpur as the hosts had maintained secrecy. To ensure that they don’t face any inconvenience in buying Indian attire at the last moment, pop-up stalls featuring the creations of Punit Balana and Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla were set up.

Buzz is that Nickyanka have struck a huge deal with a leading magazine and sold the rights to their wedding pictures at a whopping $2.5 million (around Rs 18 crore), which is why they don’t want any images to be out on social media. We contacted make-up artist Mickey Contractor, who refused to share any information. “I’ve just reached the hotel. I can’t say anything. We have all signed an NDA (Non-Disclosure Agreement),” he said before disconnecting the call.

FUN AND GAMES DURING MEHENDI
Many family members arrived with the couple on Thursday, whereas their guests including friends and other relatives started coming in only on Friday afternoon. One of the invitees informed, “Madhu Chopra got emotional during the mehendi. Priyanka looked pretty in a pink-and-yellow lehenga for the ceremony. Mehendi Hai Rachne Wali (Zubeidaa, 2001) played in the background as she reached the venue. Nick made a dhamakedaar entry wearing a silver kurta, on Sukhbir’s popular Punjabi chartbuster Tare Gin Gin. Priyanka got an elaborate mehendi done on her hands and feet, and later, the family even asked Nick to find the couple’s initials in it, which he managed to do.”

Apart from the mehendi, the team had planned some fun games, too. “It was Chopra vs Jonas — a battle royal between the two families. Parineeti hosted the event and there were several games lined up including cricket,” adds our informer.

BAND, BAAJA, SANGEET
While the mehendi was held on Friday morning, the gang was ready to rock the sangeet in the evening. “The theme was black, gold and silver, so everyone turned up in their shiniest best. The functions kicked off with a group of Rajasthani dancers performing their traditional dance form for the guests. Post that, Nickyanka walked in together and were seated on a pedestal, like a king and queen. Along with Priyanka, Nick’s mother Denise Miller-Jonas, to-be sister-in-law Sophie Turner and the ladies from his immediate family, sported saris. Nick donned a bandhgala and the men from his side also opted for Indian wear.”

The evening featured several performances from both the families narrating the couple’s love story. “Nick had prepared an entire act on his beloved’s chartbuster tracks including Tune Maari Entriyaan and Gallan Goodiyan. PC took to the stage to groove to Desi Girl. Mommy Madhu and sister Parineeti also joined her later for another song. The Jonas’ too weren’t behind. The family put up a stunning act for the couple.”

A VARIETY OF FOOD ITEMS
The hosts have ensured that the guests get a taste of various cuisines during the ceremonies. “There was a mix of Indian, Rajasthani and Mughlai dishes at the table. There was Chinese and continental food, too. For the western wedding and dinner, chefs were flown down from Goa. There were several coastal delicacies on the platter, along with Indian and continental fare. While the dishes kept changing, one thing remained the same — the food was served in silverware,” our source tells us.

Revealed: Details of Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas's sangeet celebrations

Like most Indian weddings, the sangeet was full of Bollywood numbers, including many songs from Priyanka’s movies, and friendly banter between the groom and bride’s sides
Ismat Tahseen (BOMBAY TIMES; December 2, 2018)

Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas’ wedding celebrations in Jodhpur started with mehendi and sangeet functions on Friday at Umaid Bhawan Palace. The sangeet ceremony was as filmi as you would expect. Priyanka wore a shimmery sari for the function and made an entry with her mom, Madhu Chopra, while dancing to her song Ram Chahe Leela Chahe. Her mother, too, danced with her for a while and then left the stage. It was then followed by the bride’s next performance on Desi Girl. She was joined by her cousin Parineeti Chopra as well as close friend Isha Ambani, along with the other bridesmaids. Together, they danced on another Priyanka song, Gallan Goodiyaan.

Some of the guests who arrived at Jodhpur on Friday to be a part of the wedding were Arpita Khan, Sabyasachi Mukherjee, Nick Jonas’ younger brother Frankie Jonas and Mukesh Ambani with his family. The Ambanis were the last guests to arrive (at around 10 pm) and sources say they were in the city for just a couple of hours to be a part of the sangeet.

PEACOCK-THEMED DECOR
As per sources, the decor of the sangeet was based on the peacock theme, with shades of black and gold. From the reception till the sangeet venue, Kalbeliya dancers and attendants dressed up in traditional Rajasthani attire, holding flambeaus welcomed the guests.

The mehendi took place at 12.30 in the afternoon on the same day, in a smaller garden area. In keeping with the theme of the sangeet, the tables were set with dark linen that matched the shimmery table centerpieces. The garden area was also decorated with beautiful emerald green and blue faux peacock feathers and was lit up with golden lights. Informs a source, “Once everyone was ready, they settled down and the evening kick-started with a performance by a Punjabi band. Interestingly, they first played some rousing English music. Then, Anusha Dandekar and a friend from Nick’s side took over the mic as hosts for the evening.” The sangeet ceremony was choreographed by Ganesh Hegde. Singer Manasi Scott was also one of the performers.

A LITTLE NOK-JHONK
Like in most Indian weddings, PeeCee-Nick’s sangeet also saw its share of leg-pulling and nok-jhonk between the two sides, and that set the mood for what lay ahead. Adds the source, “The entire evening was like a competition between the girl and boy’s side. They were pulling each other’s leg and asking questions like, “Hey, I can pronounce your name, can you pronounce mine?” and “Can you do this Bollywood thumka?”

Post this, Priyanka’s girl gang — Parineeti, Quantico co-star Yasmine Al Masri and others — enacted her entire life story, how Priyanka started her career, her and Nick’s love story and how he proposed to her. Parineeti played her cousin in the skit. Even the mothers of the couple played a huge part to make the evening extra special. Says the source, “There was a lovely slideshow featuring childhood pictures of Nick and Priyanka. Nick and Priyanka’s mothers shared their heartfelt thoughts on what their children meant to them. They spoke about how they both were, as kids, their growing up years and how lucky they were to be their parents. It was an emotional moment for everyone.” Jaipur-based designer Punit Balana did the mehendi and sangeet outfits of the baraatis, while Abu Jani-Sandeep Khosla reportedly designed the clothes of the baraatis for the wedding.

DHAMAAL ON THE DANCE FLOOR
After the emotional high, the music got everyone grooving. “They first played romantic soundtracks from Beauty And The Beast and Titanic. There were special performances by senior members from Priyanka’s side. The moment Galla Goodiyaan started playing, the couple pulled in the rest of their family members to dance to the track,” said the source. Later, there was a flower shower and a display of fireworks. Guests then went on to enjoy a lavish buffet served in antique silverware.
