Cop guarding Amitabh Bachchan forced to retire

Mumbai: A police naik was on Wednesday forced to retire from service after an inquiry found that he had violated service rules.
The cop, Jitendra Shinde (47), who had once been assigned the job of providing security to Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan, had been suspended 10 months ago after news had gone viral that he earned Rs 1.50 crore a year through a security company he was running. This company has been registered in his wife’s name, and he had not informed the competent authority in the force about it.
TOI tried repeatedly to contact Shinde but was unable to get a response from him.
The action was initiated after the department found at least four violations against service rules in the past eight years. Before the order was issued, Shinde had submitted in writing to the inquiry officer that he was not willing to work in the police force as his security business was running smoothly. Shinde served the Mumbai police for almost 27 years.
Shinde had been transferred to DB Marg police station in 2021 after reports emerged that he was earning Rs 1.50 crore a year apart from the salary he drew from the Mumbai police. The police officer probing the case found “gross violation” and suspended Shinde in February this year.
During the probe, the probe officer found that Shinde had violated four service rules. The first was that he had undertaken at least six overseas tours about which he had not taken permission from the competent authority. The second was he got a security company registered in his wife’s name but did not declared it to the authority. Thirdly, his banking details showed funds credited to his account instead of the company’s. The fourth was he purchased three flats in eight years and sold these, but had not declared the same.

Hollywood actor-musician Elijah Wood’s tour of India has been greatly anticipated ever since the news broke out last month. There were reports about providing special security to the international celebrity as he stops by in Mumbai, Delhi and Hyderabad to perform with his DJ group, Wooden Wisdom. Quite interestingly, Amitabh Bachchan’s personal security officer, Jitendra Shinde, was seen by Wood’s side throughout the day.
It is believed that Big B informed Jitendra’s security agency to make special arrangements for the Hollywood celeb’s visit to Mumbai. Says a source, “Jitendra is always with Mr Bachchan when he steps out of his home. But, the latter decided to part with him on Thursday so that he could provide security to Wood. The two stars know each other quite well. Early in the morning, Jitendra reached the five-star hotel in Bandra where Wood was staying. Later, he accompanied him to a Bengali food restaurant in the vicinity where he had lunch.”
Adds the source, “Jitendra was by Wood’s side when he went to Andheri for a media interaction and later, to a Juhu club for his performance.”
Elijah will be in Delhi today before flying off to Hyderabad. He will be back in Mumbai on Monday for a three-day stay during which he will meet Big B. “Wood knows only him from Bollywood and is a big fan. He has also informed us about mixing Bachchan’s popular old Hindi film songs during his performances at a city nightclub,” the source reveals.
Jitendra says, “There was tremendous buzz about his ( Wood’s) visit and so, I have taken a day off to personally guard him with the help of my team.”
