Emraan Hashmi calls Pakistani actor Javed Sheikh’s ‘rude’ to him claim bizarre

HINDUSTAN TIMES (March 25, 2025)
Earlier, Pakistani actor Javed Sheikh recalled working with actor Emraan Hashmi in Jannat (2008) and revealed that Emraan was quite rude to him on set. Now, in a recent interview, Emraan has reacted to Javed’s claim, calling it bizarre.
Emraan, who celebrated his 46th birthday yesterday, revealed that while he doesn’t recall their first meeting because it happened so long ago, but remembers being on cordial terms with the senior actor.
He said, “It’s bizarre! I was in my 20s then, and he is not my age, so we were never friends. I didn’t hang out with him, but I don’t remember anything like what he is saying happening.”
He further added, “I don’t know what Javed sahab took back with him, but it is definitely something he has held on to for 16-17 years. As far as I’m concerned, it’s a giant comedy of errors that has snowballed into something I know nothing about,” he told with Indian Express in an interview.
Javed appeared in a Ramadan Transmission with Omer Shahzad and Arsala on Aaj Entertainment’s YouTube channel, where he spoke about Emraan’s rude behaviour towards him. He recalled, “Mahesh Bhatt was the producer and got a new director on board, Kunal, to direct the project. He explained the entire plot and everything to me when I signed the project, but I had not had an opportunity to meet Emraan Hashmi until then.”
The two finally met in South Africa at Newlands Cricket Stadium, where Javed recalled being taken aback by Emraan’s cold behaviour. “I tried to shake hands with him but noticed a very cold response from his side. He shook hands dismissively and even turned his face away, which really irked me. I thought, ‘Big stars like Shah Rukh Khan, Akshay Kumar, and Salman Khan respect me so much, call me Javed Ji, and this young guy has this attitude. What does he think of himself?’ When he (Emraan) arrived, I did the rehearsal but didn’t bother to even look at him. In the days that followed, as we completed filming, I did not talk to him at all,” he added.
Justin Bieber concert attendees recall their nightmare and accuse organisers of apathy

In a case of gross mismanagement, platinum concert- goers ended up in the same arena as silver ticket holders; a few attendees recall their nightmare and accuse organisers of apathy
Gaurav Sarkar (MID-DAY; May 12, 2017)
With the dissent over Justin Bieber’s concert running deep among a section of Mumbaikars, it seems the pop star’s lip-syncing and shortage of dustbins at the venue was just the tip of the iceberg.
“The queue at the box office was held up because they ran out paper to print the tickets on,” said 21-year-old Leon Saalis de Souza, a Byculla-based PR consultant and musician. Leon and his friend reached the venue at 5 pm, an hour before DJ Alan Walker — who they were excited about— was scheduled to come on stage. But the duo were stuck in a stationary queue for nearly an hour. “I managed to get my tickets close to 7 pm, but Walker’s set had ended by then.”
Silver, platinum same same
Given that the tickets were reportedly priced from Rs 5,000 to Rs 70,000, one would think that all the offers mentioned for the higher priced tickets, which includes free merchandise, a separate section distancing them from the lower paid ticket holders, as well as a back stage tour, would have been adhered to. However, the gig was so unorganised that the silver, platinum, and VVIP 3 sections ended up getting clubbed together.
Javed Sheikh, 48, a Colaba resident who attended the concert with his wife, daughter, and nephew, has written to BookMyShow citing that a ‘clear fraud has been committed by Bookmyshow and the event organisers’. His email states: “We demand a complete refund and also let us know as to how you would compensate us for the stress, inconvenience, loss of time and harassment.”
Speaking to mid-day, Sheikh, who had paid around Rs 35,000 for each VVIP 3 (backstage) ticket, said: “Our VVIP 3 passes promised us a backstage tour, free merchandise and the designated section for such ticket holders was highlighted in a different colour. But we were all clubbed together. Three hours into the show we were promised a different section, but that didn’t happen. The merchandise stall collapsed at 4 pm.”
Getting benefits of Rs 35,000 out of a Rs 15,000 ticket, he has asked his bank to do a chargeback on the tickets citing the same reasons.
Reacting to the complaint, a BookMyShow rep said, “We understand and share the customer’s concerns on some of the highlighted issues and are working with the organisers, White Fox India, to promptly address them.”
In spite of being the first ones to enter the gates at around 2 PM, Juhu-based fashion designer Amy Billimoria, who had bought two platinum tickets for Rs 15,000 each for her and her 13-year-old daughter Aaryanne early in February, had a nightmarish experience. “My daughter is a hardcore Belieber and wanted was to see him up close.” But after entering, Amy was unable to find the entry for the platinum section. They were guided through the silver arena, and were amazed to see that none other than silver ticket holders, who refused to budge, had occupied the front row in the platinum section. “Despite pointing that out to the authorities, none took action,” said Amy.
Pakistan producer slams lifting of ban

MUMBAI MIRROR (December 20, 2016)
The Pakistan Film Producers
Association chairman on Monday slammed the decision to lift the
self-imposed ban on Indian movies, in place for around two months, with
Nawazuddin Siddiqui's romcom Freaky Ali. Syed Noor described it as a
“commercial move devoid of patriotism“, wondering who had imposed the
ban and who'd lifted it.
Pakistan Film Exhibitors Association chairman Zoraiz Lashari said it's a unanimous decision made with the consent of exhibitors and film stakeholders. Buzz is, cinema owners across Pakistan have suffered losses of about Pakistani Rs 150 million and some 100 employees have lost their jobs since the ban on Indian movies.
Film director Shehzad Rafique supported the move, regretting that recent Pakistani movies, including his own Salute, did not elicit a good response. Filmmaker, actor and director Javed Sheikh argued that whichever film has potential - Indian or Pakistani - should get shows at cinemas. “I am working on my new film Wajood and I won't mind if a big banner Indian film is screened against mine,“ he reiterated.

Working in Bollywood is looked upon as a big achievement in Pakistan-Momal Sheikh

Mohar Basu (BOMBAY TIMES; August 16, 2016)
Your father has been doing Hindi movies for a while now. What took you so long to debut here?
It is all about destiny. The makers of HBJ were looking for a Pakistani actor who could play the character of Zoya with authenticity. My father suggested a few names and the makers did audition them, but kuch baat nahi bani. One day, director Mudassar Aziz found my pictures online. He got curious and inquired with my father. When I was approached for this film, I was doing television back home. Honestly, the script floored me. They wanted me to join the team at the earliest but I was in two minds. My husband, Nadir, helped me a lot during that time. He urged me to take up the role because he knew it is rare to get an infallible combination like this - a good script, great director and top filmmakers to back the movie. I'm glad I took it up because it was fun, positive and different. These are the kind of stories which are good for both countries.
Did you travel with your son, Ibrahim, when you were shooting in India?
No, I didn't bring him along as it would've divided my attention. My son was barely two months old then and I wouldn't have had the heart to leave him if it weren't for my husband's support. I had to keep going back after every schedule to be with my baby but everything went off smoothly.
Why did you turn down Welcome Back?
I was offered that film when I was pregnant. In fact, I had three Bollywood offers during that time and it was disheartening for me to say no to each of them. But I eventually got to do the movie which I liked the best. So, I have no regrets.
How different is the Pakistani film industry from Bollywood?
There is a huge difference in terms of quality. I have never done a Pakistani film before, but from what I can gauge Bollywood is relatively warmer and kinder. Here, people work like a family unit rather than professionals. After doing a Hindi film, I have matured as an actor.
Many Pakistani actors are doing Bollywood films these days. Do you this trend is going to catch up in the future?
Art is bringing the countries closer. The trend isn't really a recent one, but I feel happy that finally the right kind of artistes are coming from across the border. Fawad Khan is brilliant and I feel proud when people ask me about his Pakistani shows. People like him have put the spotlight on our country and have set the bar high for all of us. Pakistani actors feel the same pride for Bollywood that Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra feel for Hollywood. Working in Bollywood is looked upon as a big achievement in Pakistan.
Does seeing more familiar faces in India make you feel at home?
It does. Last time when I was here, Mahira (Khan), Mawra (Hocane) and I would catch up almost every day after work. Initially, I was nervous about the idea of working here. But I have got so much love and attention that the place started feeling like home soon. Even senior actors don't make you feel awkward. They ensure you have the confidence to perform well and help you enhance your scene.
What was your reaction when you heard about Qandeel Baloch's death?
If we all stand up against honour killings and protect our women, maybe fewer people will have the audacity of pulling off such things. Killing people for an unwarranted reason is brutal and inhuman.
Do you feel you are competing with Fawad, Mahira or Mawra?
I don't believe you can work with a sense of competition. Every actor is doing their best and trying to put Pakistan on the map. We all land projects based on our hard work and a little bit of luck. I am friends with Mahira, Mawra and Fawad. I can never be envious of Mahira just because she is working with Shah Rukh Khan. You can't compete and compare because that sucks the fun out of work.
Do you have any reservations about doing bold scenes in films?
I would never give my nod for sex scenes, bikini scenes or kissing scenes. If we can create good stories without any explicit content, why not do it.
MOMAL SHEIKH TALKS ABOUT STAR KIDS IN PAKISTAN
I am a self-made, strong woman. If my father wasn't an actor and I wanted to become one, I still would've done what I wanted to do. But the hassles and repercussions would have been far too many. In that sense, I count myself lucky. Is it a privilege to be born into a film family? Unfortunately, that's not how our industry works back home. In Bollywood, star kids are a unique lot but in Pakistan, they struggle like regular actors. Whatever my brother (Shehzad Sheikh) and I have accomplished in this field is due to our hard work. We had no help from anyone and it was really difficult for us to carve our own space. If star kids were as privileged in Pakistan as they are in India, all of us would be as famous as Fawad.
I want to work with Ranveer Singh-Momal Sheikh

Pakistani actress Momal Sheikh, who makes her Bollywood debut with Happy Bhaag Jayegi
Chaya Unnikrishnan (DNA; July 30, 2016)
Instead of making your debut as a second lead in Happy Bhaag Jayegi, wouldn’t you have rather had a solo heroine film?
No, I had no issues about playing the second lead. Didn’t Diana Penty make an entry into films as second lead in Cocktail before she bagged Happy Bhaag Jayegi? As far as I am concerned, I just had to prove myself. And, now since the trailer is out, I am on top-of-the-world and it’s finally hitting me that I am making my Bollywood debut!
How did you get this role?
Basically, my father (Javed Sheikh) was offered a role in the film. The makers asked him to suggest a few Pakistani actresses for the role of Abhay Deol’s finacee. He had given them a few names except mine. They were still auditioning the girls when they googled for some names. They found my pictures with my father and asked him ‘Who is this girl, is she related to you?’ He told them that I am his daughter and an actress too. They coaxed him to give my number and spoke to me directly. I gave my audition, they sent me the script, I liked it and here I am.
Why was your father reluctant to give your name? Didn’t he want you to do Bollywood films?
No, nothing like that. He just wants me to get work on my own merit, he has never spoken to or pushed someone to give me work.
Tell us something about your role in the film?
I play a self-made, confident Pakistani girl Zoya. She is emotional and completely in love with her fiancĂ© Bilal (Abhay). The two are happy in their own world when Happy (Diana) comes into their lives. She is an Indian girl who gets stuck in Pakistan and that’s when some issues crop up between Zoya and Bilal.
Was it easy working with your father?
It was a great experience working with Baba. It was for the first time that we shot together. It is always fun to work with family and a learning experience. Baba is not strict at all on the set. He is more of a friend. He has given me everything. Baba says, ‘Do whatever you like, enjoy your life and then learn for yourself’.
Lately, several Pakistani actors are foraying into Bollywood...
Yes, it’s amazing. We feel proud that lot of Pakistanis are coming here and being appreciated for their work. Yet, only Fawad Khan has made it big. Imran Abbas and Ali Zafar despite acting opposite big heroines have failed to make a mark. Even Mawra Hocane hasn’t clicked... Sometimes destiny also plays a role. Yes, Fawad has connected, because he is good looking, is a good actor and people like his personality. As far as Mawra is concerned, I believe her film was not successful. People liked her work. Even I have seen the film and I loved her performance. She is a brilliant actor. Acting mein kahi kami nahi dekhi. She has been offered good projects, you guys are going to see more of her in Bollywood.
Are you friends with her?
Yes, we are good friends. Even Mahira Khan (Pakistani actress who is making her debut with Raees) is a good friend of mine. In fact, a short while ago, both our shooting spells were at the same time in India. We used to share our experiences together, it was good to have someone from back home here.
Who do you like among Bollywood actors?
Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan. I don’t miss a single film of theirs.
Which actor is on your wishlist?
Ranveer Singh. I want to work with him. He is a brilliant actor, has a great personality and is such a lovely person. Whenever I have seen him on TV or films, I get positive vibes. He is a fun-loving person. Kaam karke bhi mazaa ayega.
