Check out Priyanka Chopra celebrating Diwali in New York in desi style with foreign friends

Priyanka Chopra's friends turn up in kurtas and saris for a night of biryani, rasmalai and Bollywood thumkas at her sprawling apartment in New York City
Sanyukta Iyer (MUMBAI MIRROR; October 31, 2016)

Actors, writers, Quantico stars as well as several American media persons turned up in desi finery for Priyanka Chopra's first Diwali bash at her sprawling Central Manhattan apartment on Saturday night. From ace style editor, Edward Barsamian, in a beige silk kurta-pyjama to actress Tracy Ifeachor blingy in a gold-and-black choli, along with David Bradley Lim and Jake McLaughlin in casuals and PeeCee's make up artist Stephanie in a blue salwar and jhumkas, there was plenty of sparkle in PeeCee's living room. Brit actor-writer Ralph Brown made heads turn when he unbuttoned his grey jacket to reveal a colourful tee with a large print of Lord Ganesha. The 34-year-old-actress who makes her Hollywood debut alongside Dwayne Johnson and Zac Efron in Baywatch, chose to step out a gauzy white sari teamed with a gold zardosi blouse.

By the end of the night, an enthusiastic guest had painted a long, white fernshaped bindi on her forehead, teasingly referring to her as “Goddess Priyanka!“ Her New York pad was decorated with white and gold balloons, chains of twinkling fairy lights festooning the windows. On the doorstep was a welcoming rangoli and the traditional diyas. Adding delight to the vibrant soiree, the hostess's personal playlist included Bollywood hits like “Desi girl“, “Pinga“, “Tu Ne Maari Entriyaan“. Not all the chartbusters, however, were from her own films, there were some retro favourites too “Mungda Mungda“, “Disco“ and “Dum Maro Dum“. Singer-songwriter and one of PeeCee's close friends, Jay Sean, wouldn't get off the dance floor and even managed to cut a video with the hostess, their enthusiastic “Happy Diwali“ shout out drowned by a loud Arabic sound in the background.

An Indian chef was hired for the occasion and he put out a lavish spread which included chicken and mutton delicacies, piles of para thas, bowls of chhole and biryani. There was a long dessert list, with gulab jamun and rasmalai.

There were return gifts for everyone. UK-based writer-filmmaker, Gurinder Chadha, flaunting her red and yellow bandini gift, bid farewell to the host hooting, “This is how Diwali should be done. Like true Punjabi women. No one can party like us!“

Priyanka Chopra and Russell Tovey
Quantico’s season two to begin with Chopra aka Alex Parish’s break-up with Jake McLaughlin
MID-DAY (August 16, 2016)

The second season of Quantico will beam onto the idiot box next month and we hear that it will begin with a setback in Priyanka Chopra aka Alex Parish’s personal life. Throughout season one, Alex was shown to be in an on/off relationship with Ryan Booth (Jake McLaughlin), but they will now part ways. “Ryan and Alex will go separate ways just 45 seconds into the show. Something big will happen that will force the couple to break up. Alex might just get a new love interest,” a source says.

Several characters are set to be introduced on the show for the new season. Among them is Harry ( Russell Tovey), who as per social media updates, has been getting close to Priyanka. Tovey will play an unreliable, sneaky character who oozes is charming too.

Will he be Alex’s new lover or will it be just another undercover task? We’ll find out soon.

Check out Priyanka Chopra painting Quantico co-star Jake McLaughlin's daughter's nails

MUMBAI MIRROR (March 15, 2016)

Priyanka Chopra may have entered Hollywood's big league but the Quantico actress who is filming the American show's second season currently has no qualms about doubling up as stylist on the sets. PeeCee recently shared a picture of herself painting co-star Jake McLaughlin's daughter's nails on the sets of the show in Montreal. "Getting our mani on!! Rowen was our star guest on set! Everyone catering to this gorgeous lil diva! (sic)," she gushed.

Earlier this week, the actress also took out time to interact with fans through a special video on her official Facebook page, touching her equation with her co-stars and her relief over Quantico getting her fans' approval.

On being asked about how it feels to get the kind of reception and recognition that she gets in India, in the US now, she said: "Indian movies have a very global demographic. So I've got used to a lot of people knowing me outside of India as well. But with Quantico going to almost 120 territories - yes, wherever I go people know me from the show. I'm really happy, they enjoy the show and my work. Eventually an artist just wants applause and I'm really happy to be able to be getting that."

I am the flavour of every season-Priyanka Chopra

Priyanka Chopra in a still from her maiden US tele-series, Quantico, in which she plays Alex Weaver, a half-American, half-Indian FBI agent
Haunted by memories of racial discrimination in the US during her teenage years, Priyanka Chopra opens up about steering clear of stereotypes and rejecting 'exotic princess on an elephant' offers from the West...
Sonup Sahadevan (MID-DAY; May 28, 2015)

Call Priyanka Chopra the flavour of the season and she unabashedly corrects you saying, 'I am the flavour of every season'. Life was never a bed of roses for PeeCee, especially during her academic days in the US where she often found herself at the receiving end of racist barbs. Today, the same girl is having the last laugh courtesy the rousing response to the trailer of her debut American TV series, 'Quantico'. In an exclusive interview with hitlist, the actress talks about her experience in the West, working with the Khans and marriage. Excerpts...

How do you feel about the response Quantico's trailer has received?
Overwhelmed, as I didn't expect it. I knew people were not expecting it either. In Western films and television, Indians have always been relegated to playing characters that are not headlining. We are stereotyped. That's why I didn't talk about 'Quantico' much and waited for the trailer release to see people's response. I am just keeping my fingers crossed in a big way and hope that the show does well for many more reasons than one.

What are the other reasons?
I am not saying I am some messiah today, but when I was studying in an America school, I faced a lot of racism. I was told to go back on the same boat that I came on... (pauses) Browny and all of that... It wasn't everybody, but a group of people in high school. It became too much for me which is why I quit school midway and came back to India. So when I started working in the West, I was aware of all that had happened and I was very clear that I don't want to do something that will put me in that box again. I am an actor and want to be taken seriously for my job. I think Indian talent deserves respect and I am grateful for the opportunity that I got. So that is one reason very personal in nature.

Priyanka Chopra’s much talked about liplock scene in Quantico
You have made a mark in the West where many others have failed. What have you done differently?
The only different thing I did is stand my ground and say no to all those offers which would have put me in that box. I didn't want to be the exotic Indian princess who rides on elephants. I used to be asked those (stereotypical) questions all the time. Like, 'In India, do you go to school on elephants?' It is ridiculous sometimes to know how the perception is. When 'Quantico' happened, the only thing I told the agency was that you have to find me a path, which is ethnically ambiguous as an actor. It should have nothing to do with my race, country, religion and to their credit, they found me one. I am playing a half-American, half-Indian FBI agent. It's a great female-driven part.

Your steamy sex scene in the trailer has created quite a stir. Were there any apprehensions?
It is not a sexual role. There is one shot of my knee, one of the car and then another of Jake (McLaughlin). That's all. We had to tell that as a story and found an aesthetic way of saying it without me having to do anything. We had to show that my character has no inhibitions as a person and men don't matter to her. How guys usually treat girls is how she treats guys. So that was important to convey. As far as personal inhibitions go, I didn't have to do anything. Indians films today show a lot more than what I have done in it (smiles).

Priyanka Chopra and Farhan Akhtar in a still from Dil Dhadakne Do
Moving on to your upcoming film 'Dil Dhadakne Do', what is the most interesting thing about your character?
I love Ayesha because she is gentle, sensitive and brilliant. She is an achiever, but only seeks approval from her father. I haven't played a girly character in a long time. We dress up similarly too. We share a lot of qualities.

So it's very close to how you are in real life?
I am not playing what I am in real life. I have spent all my life being different people so I don't know the real me. I will find that out when I stop acting.

Will a movie with the Khans happen again?
Ask the Khans. I have never thought that I need to work with a particular person. I am blessed to have had an amazing array of films to pick from. It is the prerogative of the directors and producers to cast an actor and not the other way round.

Buzz is you will be seen in Don 3 too...
I don't know if Farhan Akhtar is making 'Don 3' as of now.

You pretty much have everything that a woman aspires to have, but marriage is unticked in your bucket list. When will that happen?
Nobody knows what a woman wants. If you do, you will make a lot of money. I am blessed with a lot of work. Marriages are made in heaven and I greatly believe in it. I know there is someone made for me. When the time is right, the universe will conspire and it will happen. Till then you live life and revel in it.
