SACHIN: A BILLION DREAMS grossed 35 crore nett in Hindi in week one and a good weekend with collections holding up pretty well over the weekdays. The film has fared best in Mumbai and South. The film had a regional version in these areas with Marathi, Tamil and and Telegu but still the best collections have come in Mumbai, Mysore and Nizam/Andhra. The film is easily the highest grossing documentary ever as it beat the long standing record of CINEMA CINEMA (1979). That film had a distributor share of 33 lakhs across in India which would equate to around 70-75 lakhs nett. The 35 crore nett of SACHIN: A BILLION DREAMS is probably higher than that film in terms of inflation adjusted figures also. The film has fetched a big price for a documentary and recovery will depend on revenue from non theatrical sources like satellite and digital.
HINDI MEDIUM had a very strong second week grossing 17.75 crore nett in week two and taking its lifetime total to 41 crore nett in two weeks. The drop in the second week is 24% which is best trending of the year in terms of second drop mainly as no other small film has done well this year. The film should comfortably cross 50 crore nett now. HALF GIRLFRIEND released alongside HINDI MEDIUM faded in week two with collections of 7 crore nett and two week total of 53 crore nett.
PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: SALAZAR'S REVENGE had a fair week of 21 crore nett and needs to get around 30 crore nett for Average business. Though 30 crore nett will only be same as the last PIRATES film in 2011 PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: ON STRANGER TIDES which had done well in India in 2011 as at that time 30 crore nett was good total for Hollywood releases.

HINDI MEDIUM scored very well in its second weekend as it grossed 10.85 crore nett apprx compared to the 11.79 crore nett in its first weekend which is a drop of 8%. The film came into its own over the weekdays and has continued that run in the second week. The film has found an audience in the metros and these metros will keep it going for a few weeks and could even go close to 50 crore nett. Mumbai circuit is best due to the tax exemption in Mumbai and Pune. The business till date of HINDI MEDIUM is as follows.
First Week - 23,25,00,000
Friday - 2,35,00,000 apprx
Saturday - 3,75,00,000 apprx
Sunday - 4,75,00,000 apprx
Second Weekend - 10,85,00,000 apprx
GRAND TOTAL - 34,10,00,000 apprx
HALF GIRLFRIEND had a big drop in its second weekend as it grossed around 4.75 crore nett. The business was down 85% and with this drop the lifetime business looks to be around 55 crore nett. The film could not compete with the films around it like BAAHUBALI 2: THE CONCLUSION, SACHIN: A BILLION DREAMS and HINDI MEDIUM and needed a solo second week or weaker competition to cross 60 crore nett. The business of HALF GIRLFRIEND till date is as follows.
First Week - 46,00,00,000 apprx
Friday - 1,25,00,000 apprx
Saturday - 1,50,00,000 apprx
Sunday - 2,00,00,000 apprx
Second Weekend - 4,75,00,000 apprx
Grand Total - 50,75,00,000

HINDI MEDIUM had an excellent second Friday of 2.25-2.50 crore nett apprx which has taken its eight day total to around 24.50 crore nett. There is hardly any drop from day one and this has come despite the competition from SACHIN: A BILLION DREAMS and PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: SALAZAR'S REVENGE. The film came into its own over the weekdays and has continued that run in the second week. The film will have a very strong second week which should be similar to the first weekend but the weekdays may be lower compared to the first week. Overall the film is a success and could even go to 50 crore nett in terms of lifetime which would mean its costs more or less covered by India theatrical.
HALF GIRLFRIEND dropped on its eighth day with collections in the 1.25-1.50 crore nett region. The film has collected around 48.50 crore nett till now but this low eighth day makes it tough the film. The film could not collect in the face of competition and probably needed a clearer run in the second week to hold. The film should jump well on Saturday but the weekend is going to remain low. The film has suffered with low collections in Delhi city and East Punjab especially the latter. With these not doing too well, the multiplex business is always on the lower side and eventually its multiplexes which will sustain this type of film.
