Gippy Grewal reveals he cleaned toilets in Canada: "Had to struggle until my second album"

Gippy on cleaning toilets in Canada: Had to struggle until my second album

HINDUSTAN TIMES (June 18, 2026)

Actor-singer Gippy Grewal who is gearing up for the release of Carry On Jatta 4, recently opened up about his journey towards success, including the struggles he faced in Canada in his early years.

During a conversation with comedian Bharti Siingh and husband Harssh Limbachiyaa, Gippy shared that although his debut song Chakk Ley was a hit, he had to juggle multiple jobs to make ends meet until his second album’s release.

“I used to do 3-4 jobs. By the time I returned home, it would be 4 o’clock in the morning. Then, I would pick up my wife (Ravneet Grewal) and the two of us would distribute newspapers. She also worked at Subway from 6 am to 4 pm and then worked as a security guard,” revealed the Angreji Beat singer.

The 43-year-old added that he and his wife even took on a cleaning contract at a mall to support themselves. “In the evening, we would work for 2-3 hours. Picking trays from the food court was her work and I did the cleaning. I had to clean the toilets as well. In other jobs, I would make 8 dollars, but in the mall cleaning job, I would get almost $13 (around Rs. 900).”

Despite the hardships, he and his wife always supported each other. Recalling the newspaper job, he shared, “My wife and I would think that this is our time together. So we would keep talking the whole time and get done with that job in two hours.”

Gippy married Ravneet in 2007. They are parents to three kids: Ekom Grewal, Shinda Grewal and Gurbaaz Grewal.

My baby looks like me when he is asleep and resembles Haarsh when is awake-Bharti Singh

Exclusive: Comedian Bharti Singh Reveals How She Lost 16Kgs In 10 Months

Neha Maheshwri (BOMBAY TIMES; April 18, 2022)

Bharti Singh surprised everyone by returning to the shoot of Hunarbaaz - Desh Ki Shaan just 12 days after delivering her baby boy on April 3. Leaving a newborn at home can, no doubt, be difficult for any mother. It was no different for her.

“I won’t deny that it was very tough to leave my 12-day-old baby at home. I was extremely emotional and cried a lot when I left for work. But, thanks to technology and science, I could do a lot of things for my baby even while being physically absent. There are cameras installed in the house. So, I could watch him. I pumped milk before leaving, which sufficed for the day. He sleeps all day. I have been on stage since I conceived. So, by default, my child has also been on stage since he was conceived. Naturally, he is used to noise, shorsharabe mein bhi so jaata hai. Also, Haarsh (Limbachiyaa) and I are fortunate to have our families by our side to take care of the baby. In fact, the two grannies are always fighting amongst themselves for a chance to pamper him (laughs)!”

Ask her, if motherhood has changed her at all, and she nods in excitement. She says, “Zindagi ke har padaav par changes aate hain. When you are single, you are carefree, but when you get married, other responsibilities get added. I guess that’s God’s way of training you for motherhood.”

Bharti adds, “Motherhood has changed me in more ways than one. I have started taking quick showers, as I want to rush to be with my child and see what he is up to. I keep staring at him when he is asleep. It feels like a miracle that he was in my womb for nine months and I gave birth to him. It angers me when someone tells me ‘Arre, he looks just like Haarsh.’ For nine months it was me carrying him in my body and how come now he looks like Haarsh? He looks like me when he is asleep and resembles Haarsh when is awake. Hamaara bachcha uske mummy aur daddy ki tarah chalaak hai (laughs!).”

Now that she is a mother, will her flirtatious acts with male celebs on her show continue? “When I got pregnant, I would feel shy ki logon ko lagega ki pet mein baby hai phir bhi flirt kar rahi hai. Now that the baby is born, I will get back to my histrionics (laughs!). Also, how can someone not praise beauty? It’s all a part of my act. Toh flirting toh chaalu hi rahegi, woh bhi Haarsh ke saamne ekdum bindaas. After all, he is the one who writes those lines,” she cracks up.

The money goes to the same house, so Harsh Limbachiyaa and I don’t have any fights-Bharti Singh

Tanvi Trivedi (BOMBAY TIMES; January 30, 2022)

Bharti Singh and Harsh Limbachiyaa are going to become parents soon, but that hasn’t stopped her from shooting. The two are currently hosting the talent-based reality show Hunarbaaz — Desh Ki Shaan.

Bharti started her career as a comedian, while Harsh used to work as a writer for comedy shows. They have come a long way since then, and today have anchored a lot of shows together. In a candid chat, the duo spoke to us about their journey and what makes them a formidable team.

Harsh says it wasn’t a conscious decision on his part to move to anchoring. He adds, “I think the only conscious decision both of us took together, was to get married! We produced the comedy show Khatra Khatra Khatra, which featured both of us. After that we were offered a show to host and since then it has become a regular thing. We do our work with absolute commitment because the makers are spending money on it.”

According to Harsh, usually, when two anchors perform together, there is insecurity, and sometimes, it can lead to fights when one feels the other got to deliver better lines. “Two anchors have not worked well in the past due to insecurities. But in our case, we are husband and wife and there is no such insecurity. That has helped us perform better,” he says.

Bharti also shares how she finds it fun to host a show with her husband. “The money goes to the same house, so we don’t have any fights. Now that Harsh and I work together, he can’t party after pack-up with his friends, he is forced to go home with me. I am happy that we make a good team,” she signs off.

Bigg Boss 12 keeps Dipika Kakar Ibrahim away from her sasural?

Karanvir Bohra also enters the house without his better half but Bharti Singh and hubby Harsh will appear together
Natasha Coutinho (MUMBAI MIRROR; September 5, 2018)

Actor Karanvir Bohra who was last seen on the small screen as the lead opposite Mouni Roy in Naagin 2 and later hosted the reality show India’s Best Judwaah, is on-board Bigg Boss 12 as one of the first inmates. Joining him is the original ‘Simar’ from the popular daily soap Sasural Simar Ka, Dipika Kakar Ibrahim (right).

Interestingly, both actors are participating in the show without their better halves. Dipika tied the knot with her Sasural… co-star Shoaib Ibrahim on February 26 this year.

A source close to the development reveals, “The makers were looking for a casting coup, getting Dipika and Shoaib on board, but the latter turned down the offer. Now, Dipika will partner someone else.”

Karanvir and his wife, Teejay Sidhu, have been married for 10 years, but couldn’t be a part of the show together as they are parents to twin girls Raya Bella and Vienna, who turn two next month. However, newlyweds, comedienne Bharti Singh and her TV show writer-husband Harsh Limbachiyaa (left), will be in the house together.

The show, which has secured the weekend slot, has the theme of ‘vichitra jodi’ this year. Show host Salman Khan begins shooting immediately after wrapping up the Abu Dhabi schedule of Ali Abbas Zafar’s period drama Bharat.

Girls on set come and tell me how cute Harsh Limbachiyaa is and my face falls-Bharti Singh

Why would one of India’s most successful stand-up comics agree to be pitted against sexy women half her size with a man who never wanted to dance?
Aastha Atray Banan (MID-DAY; April 23, 2017)

Mumbaikar Harsh Limbachiyaa wrote poetry when at school. It was one of the many indications that he wasn’t cut out for academic pursuits. Ditching formal education in class 12, he took a friend’s observation that he walked, talked and wrote funny seriously enough to pursue being a comedy sketch writer. At 17, he struggled to get on board the team for Sony’s Comedy Circus. A few years and some experience later, as writer for The Great Indian laughter Challenge on the same channel, one of the first characters he imagined was Lalli, a little girl who spoke her innocent mind. It was created for Amritsari comic Bharti Singh, a 22-year-old heavyweight who used her size and comic style to advantage. Lalli, with her kiddie drawl and girlie laugh, became an instant hit, adding steam to Singh’s journey to success. Inadvertently, she became Limbachiyaa’s first friend in the television industry. He says, “Writing happened by chance. But when I did do it, I discovered the two loves of my life — comedy and Bharti. That’s why I am still here.”

Here is on the sets of dance reality show Nach Baliye 8 at Goregaon’s Filmistan Studio, where if unconfirmed reports are to be believed, they are paid Rs 30 lakh per episode. The longer they last, the fatter the final pay cheque will be. From audience votes and the reaction of judges Sonakshi Sinha, Mohit Suri and Terence Lewis, it seems they are going to be here a while.

We talk about camaraderie over green tea with Singh, now 32, and her 27-year-old fiancĂ©. He pulls her cheeks every other minute while she feigns annoyance right before launching into the thousand reasons she thinks he is “out of this world”. They are taking a break before they get back to rehearsing their next routine with choreographer Savio Barnes, whom Singh has worked previously on Jhalak Dikhla Jaa. For Limbachiyaa, it’s his first try at dancing. He is doing this for Singh.

They’ve done pretty much everything together since they began dating seven years ago, including partnering on Comedy Nights Bachao and Comedy Classes. It was, however, only recently that she publicly admitted to the relationship and announced their engagement. They hope to marry by the end of this year. “He likes the real me, despite my weight,” she says. “He has all of me to deal with and he doesn’t mind. The girls on set come and tell me how cute he is and my face falls. Maybe I should insist on a male-only crew?” she mocks.

Singh, the comedian, is now world famous. She is hoping that through showing off her dance skills and a man on her arm, there is an image shift. “I am getting to show my fans a different side. I am more than just funny; I’m romantic too. I am just a girl, and I have a boyfriend.”

Limbachiyaa dotes on her, much in the way a young man would his mentor and nurturer. “Everything that comes out of my mouth is [considered] a joke. Harsh is the only one who gets to see my serious side,” she says. He plays the introverted, sensitive to her needs boyfriend; she, the self-confessed mother who buys him gifts each time he agrees with her. Like she did when he said yes to being part of Nach Baliye after several attempts. “They’ve [show organisers] have been asking us [to participate] for two years. I tried convincing him this time unsuccessfully, and went back crying. The next morning, I found a message on my phone that read: ‘ok, let’s do it’. It was one of the happiest days of my life. Of course, I had to buy him a lot of gifts later,” she says indulgently.

They are talking of the back-breaking stunts they have had to attempt, and how that’s revealed a different side of their partnership. “These days, we go to our respective homes only to sleep. We are realising we love each other even more,” she says. On a recent episode, Singh was assigned a reverse split with Limbachiyaa holding her up despite a torn ankle muscle. “I heard him wince, but he didn’t let go. That’s how he is in real life too.”

He thinks their relationship is a success because they are peace-loving. “When I get upset, she stays calm. When I am angry, she’s okay. We understand each other’s moods.” He is pulling her cheeks again, and asks us, aren’t you tempted to do the same? “You should see my mom with her. They are more sahelis and less saas-bahu. Actually, Bharti is my mother’s best friend.” For him, she is also an inspiration. When she takes on a project, she gives it her all. He has learnt from her. “We are getting paid for this, that’s why we need to make it priority,” he says.

Although he shrugs off the “are you in this to win” question with a “not, really”, Singh then quickly adds, “but the real takeaway is that everyone is impressed with Harsh. It was time he is shining in front of the camera. They’d say, ‘Bharti, tum toh kar logi’, but they see a non-dancer work hard and they love him. Fans now posing for a selfie ask him to be part of the frame.”
