You’re (not) looking at Katrina Kaif, Virat Kohli, Salman Khan, Amitabh Bachchan in these images

Social media apps are giving celebrity lookalikes a shot at stardom
Sharmila Ganesan Ram & Ketaki Desai | TNN (THE TIMES OF INDIA; September 22, 2019)

When you return late from work, what’s home like? A) Utensils thunder in the kitchen B) The food tastes a bit too salty C) The wife is yelling D) The wife is eerily silent.

Even before Amitabh Bachchan could finish reading out the fourth option, the hospitalised 13-year-old girl pre-emptively answers on her taxi driver father’s behalf: Option D. And for a brief frozen moment after the absent “computer mahashay” locks the option, when Bachchan hands the driver a bouquet in place of a cheque for a crore, the driver watches his dying daughter come to life. Surely, it does not matter to this father that the bodyguard-flanked, six-foot-tall celebrity who had entered the cancer hospital in Pune where his daughter is counting her last days and played KBC with him wasn’t really Big B but, in fact, a small P. That’s how professor Shashikant Pedwal (left) convinces himself of his 30-year-old white lie.

Every time Pedwal, a 47-year-old Pune resident who teaches things like plumbing, welding and fault-finding at Lonavala’s Industrial Training Institute, dyes his dark French beard white and uses words like “anushasan” in that unmistakable baritone, it’s hard to find technical faults with his transformation. So complete is the illusion that Pedwal not only startles audiences when he ends his corporate events saying: “I am not Amitabh Bachchan” but also his big Tik Tok fan base who reacted to the disclaimer with comments like: “No sir, you are Amitabh Bachchan. You must be playing a character called Shashikant Pedwal in a new movie.”

With over 53 lakh followers on Tik Tok, Pedwal — who dispenses paternal, moral and seemingly government-friendly motivation on the short-video app — is the patriarch of a virtual galaxy of lookalikes who are basking in the reflected viral glory of their lacquered Bollywood blueprints. Occupants of this low-rent parallel glamourverse include Delhi-based aspiring dietitian Gaurav Arora (right) who is what you would get when you put Virat Kohli through a wash cycle, Punjab-based rustic auto driver Sushant Khanna (left) who feels covert pride when addressed as “Sallu Bhai” on duty, London-born model Alina Rai whose five lakh fans think she resembles Katrina Kaif even though she “doesn’t see it”, and Vadodara-based Jio employee Imran Jam who appears at birthday parties and weddings as ‘gareebon ka Ranveer Singh’.

Straddling the double life calls for consistency, if not discipline. Even though passengers rarely look at him closely enough to notice the rustic Salman in him, 30-year-old Khanna makes sure his fans don’t ignore him by regularly mouthing the actor’s angry dialogues in a burst of five to six videos that he posts in one go. “This takes about an hour and a half and I usually do this after coming back from 12 hours of riding my rickshaw in the heat,” says the bhai jaan from Kalka village. Not everyone is comfortable with being perceived as carbon copies. This is why 24-year-old model Alina Rai declares: “I don’t see myself as associated with Katrina or as her lookalike.” However, Rai’s newly acquired manager hints at “meetings” with Bollywood celebrities.

Arora — who has amassed over four million fans as Kohli and landed many offers including TV and gigs — frequently stumbles upon comments that ridicule him for using Kohli as his meal ticket. But he has learnt to shut them out just as he did the bullies on the cricket ground during his days in the under-16 district-level team a few years ago. “What’s Kohli doing here? Why’s he bowling with his left hand?” the seniors would derisively ask as Arora, a formerly chubby left arm spinner, got ready to bowl. “Just like Kohli sir, I’ve stopped reading and replying to comments,” says Arora, who has mastered the skipper’s “aggressive” on-field game face so much so that “people now think I am arrogant.” The 24-year-old himself nurtured the same stereotype about his “mirror image” until he met the skipper on the sets of an ad recently and was astonished to discover Kohli’s “down-toearth” self.

But imitation can be an expensive affair. Arora, an aspiring dietitian, can’t afford Kohli’s vegan lifestyle but studiously maintains a gym and chiefly fruits-and-vegetables diet regimen that keeps both his body and his pockets light. Forty-seven-year-old Pedwa — who has been honing his Amitabh voice for 30 years by watching every Bachchan movie and writing down dialogues in a notebook — has enraged his parents on many occasions with his costly obsession. Even now, Pedwal — a father of two — spends close to Rs 35,000 a month on costumes and makeup. “You’d think I am mad. I have 55 costumes in my cupboard,” says Pedwal.

The viral fame sometimes leads to opportunities. Pedwal —who is playing Bachchan’s body double in an upcoming Marathi film -- has travelled to Israel, Dubai, Mauritius and Qatar while Jam — who has yet to properly monetise his lipsyncing videos as a Ranveer Singh rip-off — hopes to commercialise his new-found love of acting. “I would love to get into the Bollywood line. It’s just a matter of getting that one big opportunity,” says the Jio employee whose caller tune speaks for his state of mind — apna time aayega.

9 facts you didn't know about Raaz Reboot

BOMBAY TIMES (September 15, 2016)

Raaz Reboot has generated curiosity ever since the first teaser was launched online. Given that the makers have called it curtains on their hit franchise after the fourth instalment, here's looking at four reasons why audience shouldn't miss this Emraan Hashmi-Kriti Kharbanda-Gaurav Arora-starrer that is written and directed by Vikram Bhatt.

ROMANIA
One of the locations that top the imagination of horror aficionados, the country, famed for its countless tales of Dracula, has been aptly explored by Vikram. From shooting in Romania's most haunted forests to other spine-chilling yet exotic locales, the film promises to be a visual treat.

RAAZ
The film's makers revolutionised the horror genre with a different story that also gave audiences something to take back with them. Not to forget, every franchise in this series has been a box office hit. What's the raaz this time for Kriti's possessed avatar to send shivers down the spine is what the producers and director keep the viewers guessing.

ROMANCE
This is a significant ingredient that makes the franchise unique in the genre. Toplined with talented names in the music industry, the haunting and soulful soundtrack has only added to the romance and mystery of Raaz Reboot.

REUNION
This film also brings together producers Bhushan Kumar and Bhatt brothers - Mahesh and Mukesh - a formidable combination, who prove it yet again with the soundtrack. Emraan teams up again with his Raaz 3 director, Vikram, in a role he owns with trademark ease.

BEHIND THE SCENES
- While shooting at the Bucharest Palace, Emraan, Kriti, Gaurav, Vikram and the team could sense a eerie vibe. What's more, they would get gooseflesh each time they walked down the hallways and felt that they were being watched.

- Besides steamy intimate scenes with Emraan, Kriti also performed the action scenes herself. Not only does the film mark her Bollywood debut, but also her first in doing stunts, dubbing her own lines and mouthing expletives as part of her character.

- According to Emraan, this is the scariest of the Raaz films. The actor, who has been associated with the franchise from the first, on which he was assisting Vikram, says the locations and the atmosphere added to the chilling moments.

- After having played a painter in Raaz 2 and a director in Raaz 3, Emraan turns a photographer for Raaz Reboot. He experiments with a different look, sporting a man-bun, which has got him a lot of attention.

- Gaurav, who plays a banker, looked to Hollywood star Harrison Ford for inspiration and adapted his sophistication and mannerisms for his role.

- The first intalment featured a raven and the director has brought the bird back in the fourth outing as well. The scene in which a raven flies straight into the windshield of Gaurav's car spooked the crew at the shoot, too.

- Vikram was impressed that his lead actress had no qualms about looking ugly in the scenes her character gets possessed. He says, “Kriti was the first actress who insisted on being made to look ugly.“

- Emraan calls Lo Maan Liya from this film his 'all-time favourite' song. He says, “The tunes are haunting and have an element of mystery about them.“

- While shooting for the scene that required her character to be nude, Kriti insisted that every crew member in the room would strip down, too, despite minus 10 degrees temperature. “Why would I freeze alone?“ she joked, making sure all present were stripped down to their basics.

Censor Board tells Vikram Bhatt to reduce the usage of the 'F**k' word in Raaz Reboot

BOMBAY TIMES (September 13, 2016)

Director Vikram Bhatt, whose films have ran into censorship hurdles in the past, had a tough time with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) for his upcoming flick, Raaz Reboot. He concedes that the cuts they asked for the Emraan Hashmi-Kriti Kharbanda-Gaurav Arora-starrer left him flabbergasted.

The CBFC told the filmmaker to cut down the usage of the 'F' word from 32 to 16. The original scene in question features a possessed Kriti screaming the 'F' word at Emraan and Gaurav in a satanic kind of succession. Vikram says the reason given to him was that '32 is too much and can't be allowed'.

In another instance, the trailer, which was given a 'U/A' rating for theatres, was given an 'A' rating for television. The director asked his promo makers to study horror shows on TV and cut the trailers accordingly. “Out of the three 20-second promos that we sent to the Censor Board, one was given 'U/A' and the other two were rated 'A'. I was appalled,“ he recalls.

Having had to water down the trailers considerably for a 'U/A ' rating for TV, Vikram admits, “I cannot showcase the horror film unless I use a videosharing site. But there is a huge audience out there that doesn't even visit the site. How do I reach them?“

Emraan Hashmi prays for son Ayaan at Mother Teresa's house

Zinia Sen (BOMBAY TIMES; September 12, 2016)

"Do not think that love, in order to be genuine, has to be extraordinary. What we need is to love without getting tired." -Mother Teresa

"His son is better now?“ asked one of the sisters at the gate, her voice dripping with affection. They were aware of the chain of events - little Ayaan's fight against cancer and the glorious victory. It didn't come as a surprise to Emraan Hashmi, who, stripped off his starry image, was just a concerned father as he reached Mother House - Saint Teresa's AJC Bose Road home (Kolkata) where she lived and served on Saturday, a little past 4 pm.

MY MOTHER HAD COME HERE
Emraan, who was in town to promote his latest film Raaz Reboot with co stars Gaurav Arora and Kriti Kharbanda, had expressed his desire to visit Mother House even before he touched down in the city. He had heard about the place at least a 1,000 times from his mother, Maherrah Hashmi, who breathed her last in March. With a deep sense of loss, Emraan said, “I have been hearing about Mother House since I was a kid. My mother, a Catholic, would talk a lot about this place and I think she had even come here once. If she was there today, she would have been very happy.“

Emraan, who offered white flowers at Saint Teresa's tomb, stood there for several minutes praying for son Ayaan, who has now joined school and is back to his normal routine after prolonged chemotherapy. Accompanied by sisters of the Missionaries of Charity, Emraan, Kriti and Gaurav next visited the prayer room upstairs. They were amused to see a Mother statue adorning the seat where she would pray since the early 1950s. Emraan was seen thumbing through the booklet on the saint that one of the sisters gifted him.

IF WE CAN DO ONE PER CENT OF WHAT SHE DID
There was more in store. “I went to her room upstairs and it was quite a revelation. This is the room where Mother breathed her last. The room is so small and so basic. This is from where she would work for the poorest of the poor. I could totally feel her love as I stood there. If we can do even one per cent of what she did, this world will be a much better place to live,“ said Emraan, who was crowded by visitors amazed to see him there.

The actor, who interacted with the sisters, was humbled by the experience. “I have started praying a lot more after my son's illness. And now I don't go to bed without praying. When you know you have no control over things, you want to hold on to hope,“ he said.

Mother Teresa was declared a saint by Pope Francis last Sunday at a canonisation ceremony held in Vatican City. The canonisation on September 4 came on the eve of her 19th death anniversary.

Who can beat the king in kissing?-Kriti Kharbanda on Emraan Hashmi

Kriti Kharbanda on her co-actor Emraan Hashmi and making her Bollywood debut with Raaz Reboot
Neha Maheshwri Bhagat (BOMBAY TIMES; September 10, 2016)

Matching Emraan Hashmi kiss for kiss in Raaz Reboot, the latest instalment of the Raaz franchise is Bollywood's newest find Kriti Kharbanda. Not your regular debutante, Kriti is goofy, gregarious and carries her stardom with ease, which only adds to her appeal. In this interview, she reveals how actresses who star in horror flicks can be so much more than just scream queens...

You have moved to Mumbai, bag and baggage...
Yes, I need to give myself that one chance. I never tried getting into Hindi films because I always wanted to be closer to my family . The idea was to work for a few years and get married. In fact, work was never a priority; getting married was. At 14, I would tell my mom I wanted to get married. That hasn't changed; it has just been pushed by a few years. In fact, I have postponed it for the second time. I aspire to be a good wife, daughter in-law and mother. Actually, I will make a great goofy wife because I am a goofball.

Talking about Raaz Reboot, how is this instalment different from the previous ones?
It's been shot on a grand scale. When the film starts, you see a frozen lake and a mansion. We have braved extreme climatic conditions and shot in Romania for 60 days. Besides that, this film has more raaz, anger and hurt. There is more pressure on us as the previous three instalments have been successful, so this has to be bigger.

Did you have apprehensions about debuting in Bollywood with a horror film like Raaz?
Unfortunately, people don't consider the horror genre commercial. And most actors don't get to explore this genre in their entire career. In spite of being an A-rated film catering to a limited audience, Raaz made huge profits when the 100-crore club wasn't even in the picture. It had fabulous music, but that alone can't pull you to a theatre. The statistics prove that the genre enjoys a loyal set of viewership. I am hoping to recreate the magic, draw the same audience and more.

A horror flick is mostly laced with scintillating and intimate scenes. Do you feel that it takes away from the core story?
Our audience has become open-minded and such things are no longer considered a taboo.Kissing is just an emotion and can't be looked down upon. Also, the film is not sleazy. What you see in the trailer is all that's there in it. Come on, we were under four layers of clothing. Our film is more about suspense and horror.

How did you break the ice with Emraan Hashmi?
Actually, Emraan broke the ice. He introduced himself, which he didn't need to. I guess he was trying to be funny (laughs). Later, he offered to carry my bags when he saw me struggling at the airport. That was something as he is a self-confessed lazy guy. Emraan is fun to work with and I had a blast shooting the film.

He is known as the serial-kisser of Bollywood. Was there any pressure on you to outdo him?
In kissing? Are you kidding me? Who can beat the king? I didn't feel any kind of pressure. I was skeptical and terrified at the idea at first as I have never kissed onscreen before. But eventually, it felt like any other scene. It's not big a deal; people around you make it a big deal. For the crew, it seemed like any other day on the set with Mr Emraan Hashmi as they have worked with him before.

The movie catapulted Bipasha Basu to the big league overnight. What are your expectations from it?
I am hoping that it puts me on the map as well. Bipasha got there because she had it in her. She is the queen of horror and has made a mark for herself. I can imagine how hard she must have worked because I have been in that space. I understand the hard work that goes into a horror flick and the energy it consumes. It's exhausting after a certain point. She was an outsider and see where she has reached. I am also an outsider and I hope I get there. I really look up to her. All three films have had strong female characters who have performed well and were appreciated.

So, are you looking at becoming the new scream queen?
Why? I want to have my own throne rather than dethroning anyone. I want to make my own place.

You have been linked with your Raaz co-actor Gaurav Arora and South actor-producer Sumanth Kumar. You even said that you are married to films, but you are having an affair...
Gaurav is a friend and there is nothing more to it. I am still married to films. I was having an affair at that time, but now I am not. I will talk about a relationship only when I am certain it's heading somewhere. I have a crazy schedule for a while. I want to make time to fall in love and that will happen in time. I hope it happens soon. I love the concept of love. My guy needs to be a hopeless romantic like me and totally filmi, too.

Considering your last name, are you often asked if you are related to actor Kulbhushan Kharbanda?
All Indians are my brothers and sisters and he is like a father figure (laughs). But it's flattering to have any kind of association with an artiste of that calibre. When I started acting, people advised me to change my name as it sounded Punjabi and was difficult to pronounce, but I didn't give in. I am proud of my name and my roots.

Emraan Hashmi backs another Bhatt protégé Gaurav Arora

BOMBAY TIMES (September 5, 2016)

Emraan Hashmi was launched by Mahesh and Mukesh Bhatt 13 years ago. He became a hero followed by the masses, thanks to his mentors' continuous backing and vision. While he was labelled 'serial kisser' for his lip-locks with his leading ladies. Often, the songs of his films fuelled their success and his.

Now, in a symbiotic relationship, the filmmakers' favourite actor will help newcomer Gaurav Arora find his feet. He plays the parallel lead in their upcoming horror venture with T-Series, Raaz Reboot, written and directed by Vikram Bhatt. In the past too, the Bhatts and Emraan have together promoted artistes like Shiney Ahuja in Gangster, Randeep Hooda in Jannat 2 and Kunal Kemmu in Kalyug, besides endorsing acclaimed names like Irrfan in Killer.

Gaurav, who debuted under Vikram's direction in Love Games, for the first time, shares screen space with an established actor close to his mentors. Those who have seen the rushes of the spine-chiller's fourth installment, produced by Mukesh Bhatt, Bhushan Kumar and Krishan Kumar, claim that Emraan will prove lucky for this new actor too.

Raaz Reboot, presented by Gulshan Kumar and Vishesh Films, releases September 16.

Vikram Bhatt: Love Games on an iPhone now

Writer-director Vikram Bhatt on how he attained nirvana through a song
MUMBAI MIRROR (April 5, 2016)

"Roads pe kaise shooting karenge?“ Anupam, my associate grumbles. “Mall mein kissing? Dad have you gone mad?“ Krishna is appalled. Pradipto, the youngest of my assistants, almost passes out when I suggest a makeout session on a stairwell.

At Vishesh Films, everyone calls her Masi. Mrs Saigal is the go-getter Executive Producer. “Run and gun! That's the only way,“ she concedes. The problem: How does one run and gun erotic content in public places?

“Nirvana“ was clearly the best song of Love Games and had to be showcased fittingly. Manoj Soni, my talented DoP, comes to the rescue. He looks me straight in the eye and says, “Lets shoot it on an iphone 6!“ There is silence in the room, all the faces seem to say, “Are you serious?“ His face says, “I am.“ Then, just like that, from despair the room moves to high-decibel excitement.

Both Gaurav (Arora) and Tara (Alisha Berry) gape at me. Makeout in public? Like seriously? Yet, both actors have surrendered to me completely. They are great sports.

Shooting day: Sumit, the production manager, goes into the store and says, “We need to take some pictures.“ Manoj with his iPhone follows Gaurav as he leads him to Tara waiting in the footwear section and, grabbing her, heads to the changing room. God, they kiss to save their lives and mine! Roads: Hiten Tejwani who plays Tara's husband drives nonchalantly as Manoj and I hide in the backseat. I ask him to look irritated, he finds it easy. Tara sits next to him and texts her lover secretly. Manoj even gets a cracking close-up of Tara through the side mirror.

Stairwell: Anupam locks the door on one floor and Pradipto on the other. Tara runs to Gaurav, they know that they have only five minutes, in the film and in reality. Manoj, iPhone in one hand and a light in another, captures the passion of the couple. The passion, on and off screen, is magical! This is moviemaking at its best. Five hours and we are done! The next morning, Boss (Mahesh Bhatt) watches the footage and exclaims, “Vikram, are you mad?“ I laugh, “No Boss, I just attained nirvana!“

Gaurav Arora gets cosy with Kriti Kharbanda on Raaz Reboot sets in Romania?

After Kriti Sanon, Gaurav Arora gets cosy with Kriti Kharbanda, while shooting in sub-zero temperatures
Sanyukta Iyer (MUMBAI MIRROR; March 21, 2016)

Buzz is, the latest South import, Kriti Kharbanda who is being launched in Bollywood with Vikram Bhatt's Raaz Reboot, was dating actor-producer Sumanth Kumar, nephew of actor-filmmaker Akkineni Nagarjuna and one of the partners of Annapurna Studios, since 2011. The two have reportedly been in an on-and-off relationship for over four years. Kriti even bought a home in Hyderabad in 2012 to spend some quality time with Sumanth who had married Telugu actress Kreeti Reddy in 2004, but within two years, they had divorced. “We're the best of friends, I don't mind going for coffee or talking for hours with him,“ Kriti had said in 2014 when questioned about her relationship with Sumanth.

Two years later, seems he is not the only actor Kriti is willing to sip coffee with. Mirror has learnt that the 27-year-old actress was cosying up with another Kriti's ex. Gaurav Arora, reportedly Kriti Sanon's ex-boyfriend (Mirror, August 12, 2015), till last week was filming the fourth instalment in the Raaz franchise in Romania with Kriti. He plays a debonair banker heading the East European Finance Consortium, while Emraan Hashmi, without whom a Raaz instalment is incomplete, is a fashion photographer. The shoot flagged off in snow-covered Sinaia, a mountain town in Romania's Prahova county, with Gaurav and Kriti nothing more than cordial co-stars. On January 23, the unit was travelling from Sinaia to Sibiu, a Transylvania town located 200 km away. It was a long journey through the hills in minus 20 degrees. Eyebrows raised when Kriti chose to travel with Gaurav instead of her designated car.

In Sibiu the growing closeness between the two was apparent, with Kriti hanging around on the sets, waiting to have lunch and dinner with Gaurav, keeping him company between shots. Quiz co-producer Mahesh Bhatt on the secret romance and he laughs, “I seem to always let the cat out of the bag, but I believe there are no bags, only cats.“

He admits that he heard the rumours too. “There are stories that play out on the film sets. This is one such story. We are living in the 21st century and when a young man and young woman are pushed together in an unforgiving place, far from home, pushed against the wall by the harshest work schedules, it's not surprising that they're drawn to each other,“ he says, adding that while watching the rushes he noticed a certain electricity between the two. “I thought it was the genius of my director Vikram Bhatt, until I realised that it was a hormonal dance playing out.“

But it was not all love and no war in Romania. During the final schedule in Bucharest, which began on March 2, the unit heard the couple arguing at the top of their voices in the wee hours. “Yes, it reached my ears too and I learnt that all was not well in Romania,“ Bhatt confirms.

However, according to our source, the two quickly patched up before the unit returned to Mumbai on March 14. Kriti flew back to Bangalore for her South commitments while Gaurav is promoting his upcoming film in the city. “Film sets have been cradles for some great romances. We'll have to see if this one has the power to go beyond a shoot. Time will tell,“ Bhatt concludes.

Raaz Reboot team battles the winter cold in Romania for a frozen secret

Roshmila Bhattacharya (MUMBAI MIRROR; January 19, 2016)

The fourth instalment of Raaz took off in Sinaia four days ago with Emraan Hashmi and Kriti Kharbanda facing the camera for a scene which has them chatting in a hotel lobby. It appears in the second half. They look warm and comfortable, which is far from how it really is. Emraan, who is returns to the franchise three years after Raaz 3D, describes the climate shock, saying "straight out of the pan and into the refrigerator".

It's winter in Romania and director Vikram Bhatt is filming in sub-zero temperatures. "The hands freeze in 30 seconds," he says, drawing closer to the heater. "A decade ago, I shot Elaan in the snow but it was not so bad. On Monday it was minus 18, Emmi is frozen and so is Kriti," Vikram laughs.

He is all praise for the local crew who are hospitable and helpful, teaching their 'brave' Indian counterparts how to survive the Transylvania winter. "They are telling us what food to eat and how we can protect ourselves from the blizzards and biting cold. The winter wear we brought with us from Mumbai packed up at the hotel reception," Vikram admits. Now, it's Tuica and Palinca alcoholic beverages distilled from plums for the B-townies.

Kriti makes her Bollywood debut in Raaz Reboot. Vikram describes her as a good actress. "Having done many films in the South makes it easier for her," he adds.

Gaurav Arora who makes his debut in Vikram's Love Games plays a debonair banker who heads the East European Finance Consortium in Raaz Reboot. "The joke amongst the crew is Gaurav jab ayega thand main uski band bajegi. He is carrying something or the other for everyone since he is arriving late," laughs the director. Emraan plays a fashion photographer who has rehabilitated himself after a stint with drugs and alcohol abuse, not to mention a nasty temper. "The point being is the seemingly good bad or is the seemingly bad good," he says enigmatically, adding that this Raaz looks like none of the films they've made before. "It's a whole new and white world. Fabulous, it better reboot!" he signs off.

Love Games maker Mahesh Bhatt told to chop kisses, abuses, drug scenes

Roshmila Bhattacharya (MUMBAI MIRROR; December 19, 2015)

Early on Friday, at around 10 am, Mahesh Bhatt posted three tweets hitting out at the unnamed Censor Board Chairperson, Pahlaj Nihalani. In the first one he pointed out, "We live in oppressive times. We in Bollywood now have, one of our own as a thought police!"

This was followed by: "Instead of calling the process of limiting our self expression & dissent as "censorship", he calls it "concern for our SANSKRITI!"

His tirade ended with, "This guy feels that we Indians are ready to support repression as long as it is done by hiding behind the high sounding word 'our tradition'."

When Mirror caught up with the filmmaker, who was driving down from Pune, he admitted that his ire had been sparked off by his upcoming film's (Love Games, starring Gaurav Arora and Patralekha) recent brush with the Examining Committee of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). Bhatt, who attended the screening, was encouraged when the Regional Officer and the other members admitted to liking the film and the fact that there was no effort to titillate even though it journeys from dirty sex to pure love. "But then they wanted certain four letter words muted out and kisses pruned down to a few seconds. What was shocking was that they didn't want the hero (Gaurav Arora), a drug addict reformed by love, to be shown consuming hard drugs. How can I show him cured of his addiction unless I establish the fact?" asks a mystified Bhatt.

He points out that in 1989 he'd launched daughter Pooja with Daddy, revolving around an alcoholic father cured by his daughter's love. "The film, which came in the pre-digital era had several scenes of a drunk Anupam Kher. It was aired on the national broadcaster, Doordarshan, and the present Union I&B Minister, Arun Jaitley, had liked it. Today, when every kind of content is streaming into our homes, how can such restrictions be imposed on us?" he questions.

Bhatt argues that since they applied for an adult certificate, not 'U' or a 'U/A', these cuts are not acceptable. "We will now go to the Tribunal," he informs, pointing out that India has become a force to be reckoned with worldwide because of our constitutional right to freedom of speech and expression. "Now the Board is trying to strangle freedom of thought and expression. Makers are now practicing pre-censorship, fearful of the outcome when they pick up their pen."

Bhatt is peeved with Nihalani, who he stood up for at the time of the latter's appointment, arguing that he'd headed film trade bodies and campaigned for the industry's cause. "He was one of us, fighting against the moral code of the censors. Now he has taken us back to the Dark Ages. The CBFC has become the Censor Board," Bhatt signs off.

Kriti Kharbanda to make her debut with Raaz Reboot, co-starring Emraan Hashmi, Gaurav Arora

Sanyukta Iyer (MUMBAI MIRROR; November 20, 2015)

Three years after Raaz 3D, the fourth instalment of the horror franchise will kick off in Romania in January. It marks South star Kriti Kharbanda's B'wood debut. Writer-director Vikram Bhatt confirmed the news, "Yes, the film features Emraan Hashmi, Kriti Kharbanda and Gaurav Arora. All three characters have shades of grey."

Delhi girl Kriti, 27, is a model-turned-actress who started out with the 2009 Telugu hit Boni. She has done several Kannada films since and is currently wrapping up her first Tamil film, an action comedy set to release in 2016, Bruce Lee. She will start shooting for Raaz Reboot in Mumbai next month.

Mahesh Bhatt, who discovered Kriti, said, "You can't fish in your own pool and come out with something new and sparkling. So we go to distant places looking for fresh talent. Kriti has already made a mark in the South and has a powerful role in the film."

Vikram has been wrapping up another twisted love traingle, Love Games: Loving Dangerously, with Gaurav, Citylights actress Patralekha and Tara Alisha Berry. "The world will wake up to Gaurav's acting in Love Games and Raaz Rebooted will strengthen his position," Bhatt asserts, quick to add that that there can't be a Raaz film without nephew Emraan, whose character has a fresh dimension in the latest film. "It will be a quantum leap forward from the previous films in terms of content."

Bollywood actors reveal what they are obsessed with

Books, chocolates, shoes, cosmetics, coffee... B-town's bold and beautiful reveal all that makes their world go round
Avinash Lohana (MUMBAI MIRROR; October 26, 2015)

RAJKUMMAR RAO
I am crazy about acting but I am obsessed with travelling. My profession gives me a lot of opportunities to go globetrotting and exploring a new city is a different kind of a high. There is so much to see in the world, it is all so exciting.

VIDYA BALAN
People fascinate me. I like discovering them through their stories, conversations, lifestyles, clothes, food, culture, customs, movies, even the way they write mails. I observe my fellow passengers a lot while I'm travelling.

SONAKSHI SINHA
I discovered my fetish with shoes recently when I sat down to count the number of pairs I own. I have 450 pairs. Whenever I go shopping, I inadvertently end up buying shoes more than clothes, and that's how they have piled up.

GAURAV ARORA
I am totally into outdoor sports. I was a National-level swimmer and a District-level hockey player. I hate spending time on play-stations and mobile phone games. When I am shooting, I get the assistant directors and the camera crew to play cricket and football.

SOORAJ PANCHOLI
I love chocolates, and have them stacked and hidden around my house. I am hard on myself when it comes to fitness and diet, but it's really hard to keep me away from the chocs.
AYUSHMANN KHURRANA
At the moment my biggest fixation is food, the Punjabi cuisine in particular. I'm lucky I don't have any weight issues so I don't have to watch what I eat. As a Punjabi who has grown up on an authentic North Indian diet, I love gorging on butter chicken, aloo parathas and rajma-chawal. I also relish Mughlai food. I'm the biggest foodie!

AKSHARA HAASAN
Dancing brings me joy. I've been dancing since I was eight. I started with jazz, salsa, hip hop, jive, learnt the basics of ballet, along with Kuchipudi and Bharatnatyam. My faves are free-style hiphop and Kuchipudi.

TAMANNAAH BHATIA
I am very particular about my skin, so I'm hooked on skin care products and make up. Lipsticks in particular have intrigued me since I was a little girl.

PRACHI DESAI
Coffee and packing for a trip are the first two on my 'O' list. When I travel to other countries, I pick up different types of coffee. By now I have stocked enough to last me a lifetime. Packing is something I spend a lot of energy and time on, even though I know I can always buy stuff I forget to take along. I start packing days in advance and I'm still at it three hours before my flight.

IRRFAN KHAN
I have always been obsessed with books - I like to read biographies, fiction or history. I can spend my life reading.

Kriti Sanon is a good friend but we're not dating-Gaurav Arora

Avinash Lohana (MUMBAI MIRROR; August 12, 2015)

Till now known as Kriti Sanon's boyfriend, Gaurav Arora kicks off his first film, Vikram Bhatt's Love Games, with Patralekha and Tara Alisha Berry, in Cape Town today.

Earlier, the 28-year-old model was in the running for the lead in Aashiqui 2 and Khamoshiyan. "I had even auditioned for Aashiqui 2 but things didn't work out. However, with Love Games, everything was finalised in just one meeting," he sighs with relief, adding that the film is a sexy, twisted love triangle. "Vikram sir is a poet, I love the way he writes and answers my questions on the script."

Gaurav has been instructed to not divulge any details about his character and after some prodding reluctantly reveals that his screen avatar, Sameer aka Sam, is a regular guy who everyone can relate to. "The idea of playing a typical hero is outdated now," he points out, saying prep included workshops and script reading sessions with his costars. "I'm trying to look really presentable on the screen."

And how's he going to handle the reel life love games? "Well, when two people are in love, it's obvious that they will kiss but nothing in the film is forced or superficial, it's all situational. And we will adhere to the Censor Board's guidelines. I come from a small town in Madhya Pradesh, my father is a farmer and my mother is a homemaker, so I know my boundaries," asserts the actor, who will be in South Africa for the next 45 days before the film moves to Mumbai for a wrap.

Quiz him on Kriti and he is quick to retort, "We're just good friends."

The duo has known each other since their modelling days and been in touch since. "But we are not dating," he insists. "Kriti is a good friend and we have known each other for a long time but of late, she has become really busy with films too," he says.

Patralekha will star in Vikram Bhatt’s next
MID-DAY (July 31, 2015)

Director Vikram Bhatt has decided to put his next film in the Murder franchise on hold as his mentor, Mahesh Bhatt, felt it was not feasible post the debacle of his last venture, Mr X. He now plans to begin shooting for another film with a fresh story as well as star cast.

A source says, “Vikram had another script in hand and after discussing it with the Bhatts, got a nod.
The film will go on floors on August 9 in Cape Town. He has decided to call it Love Games, a title that he had reserved for Murder. It will star Patralekhaa, Tara Alisha Berry and mark the debut of model Gaurav Arora, who is rumoured to dating Kriti Sanon.”

Confirming the development, Bhatt says, “That narrative was going to be Murder 4, which seemed tired, worn out and fatigued at moment. So, Vikram pulled out another script from enormous work he has been doing all this while, which captivating story of the times we live in. The film shows physical passion and also connects to the heart so touches lust and peaks love. The shooting will start in Cape Town.”

Stating that the casting couldn’t have been better, adds: “Vikram, after the humiliating defeat of Mr X has got a new DNA. I see new beginning for him,” adds Bhatt.

While Patralekhaa says she is looking forward the shoot, Vikram says, "I am excited because something I have never done. (It is) Twisted and sexy.”

Grapevine has it that Kriti Sanon, who will be seen in Rohit Shetty’s Dilwale, is in a relationship with model Gaurav Arora. The one-film-old actress was a model before stepping into Bollywood and is said to have met Gaurav during her initial catwalking days.

Says a source from the fashion industry, “Everyone knows about Gaurav and Kriti being a couple. Since Kriti has made it big in Bollywood now, their relationship is being spoken about only in whispers.” Kriti, however, denies the buzz, saying: “I am not dating anyone right now. I am very much single. I have very few friends in Mumbai and Gaurav is one of them. I have known him since my modelling days, but there nothing more than that.”

Gaurav, too, rubbishes the news. “I know her really well since my modelling days, but we have never dated,” he adds.
